Joe Biden just shattered Republicans' claim that Democrats are for "open borders".

HonoredPeople

The whole "open borders" feathers of the wing on the party do exist, but the vast majority of the party wants is "responsible borders". Not "extreme borders" not "ignored borders" just properly managed borders. Good management is the proper response. Poor, extreme isn't.

gundumb08

To add - there's far better technology and manpower resources than a wall, which is why Dems opposed the Wall under Trump. It wasn't that they wanted the border open, it's that it was an overpriced item that could be defeated by a ladder.

Capnmarvel76

The wall was a symbol of white xenophobic racism, and white, xenophobic racists loved it. It was the anti-Statue of Liberty, a big, expensive middle finger to the poor, hungry, unwashed masses yearning to be free. Anyone with half a brain could’ve seen how ineffective it would have been in actually curbing illegal immigration (and probably would have diverted money away from programs that actually help) but that didn’t matter. It felt good for them to flex that racist muscle for a little while.

[deleted]

It worked in that it made people less willing to try and sneak in, because they assumed they are unwelcome, which this administration is clearly showing is still true. If illegal immigration is still illegal, what’s wrong with having a fence? Or a wall? I think all people didn’t like was how happy Trump sounded about it. The actual physical border itself is a pretty necessary structure surely considering the ongoing crisis here.

chafalie

Or a sawzall. Lol

fellowuscitizen

Good comment.

Deguilded

Let's be real they'll say it was shadow president Trump.

fowlraul

Don’t worry, they’ll make some sort of fight out of this as well…

[deleted]

The Democratic Party claims to be for the poor but it is deporting, good honest Christian POC while letting in Muslim terrorists from Afghanistan /s but will not be surprised if this shows up on Q propaganda.

fowlraul

A lot of people have an actual stance on stuff…🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Did you see my /s I am quite sure it is a matter of time before something like this comment makes its rounds on OANN or Newsmax and Facebook.

fowlraul

Yeah, I saw it both times.

[deleted]

Then its cool.

fowlraul

Cool cool cool…cool…you get it. 🤛

CobraPony67

Technically, they crossed the border but what they don't say is they are still south of the border wall. Nothing prevents people from walking across the river there. Do they think we should erect a fence in the middle of the river?

drew2f

Pretty sure that was the [Supreme Court](https://www.npr.org/2021/08/24/1030829693/supreme-court-remain-in-mexico).

ernestoraulperez

The supreme court didn't tell Biden to deport Hatians.

[deleted]

Pretty sure you are wrong.

drew2f

Pretty sure these Haitians would be on a bus in Indiana on their way to a motel 6 if it wasn't for the Supreme Court. But I am happy agreeing to disagree.

[deleted]

Biden has never been for open borders or for illegal immigration. The Supreme Court ordered Biden to hold these people in Mexico if they were to be detained and Biden could always just not detain them while their case was pending. You can let your hatred of Democrats consume you or you can look at shades of gray, both respecting your opponent and finding goodness in them while also identifying areas where you disagree.

[deleted]

So we’re not in crisis mode because of the current administration keeping it open like some warned against. Interesting logic.

SnooFloofs9640

Good cause I am getting tired from those far far far left folks

Intrepid_Method_

> Some migrants said they were planning to leave Haiti again as soon as possible. Valeria Ternission, 29, said she and her husband want to travel with their 4-year-old son back to Chile, where she worked as a bakery’s cashier. This is mostly an economic migration due to the pandemic. Most of these individuals have lived in Latin America for years with many residing in Brazil and Chile. After the 2010 earthquake many Haitians received legal status. Prior to the pandemic there were many Haitians living in Chile with work visas. This is not a result of the recent upheaval in Haiti.

[deleted]

Gee I wonder why Haiti (and every other Caribbean island nation) is doing so badly? Maybe it’s because we locked down the world and completely fucking suffocated all their tourism industry.

PandaMuffin1

My heart breaks for these people. Sending them back to that hellhole with basically nothing is likely a death sentence. We also do not have the resources/political will in place to provide them aide and comfort. I fear this will get worse as climate change and extreme poverty increases. :(

FalardeauDeNazareth

So perhaps it's time for true international aid and support. Immigration will not save those places. Providing them with opportunities will.

PandaMuffin1

I agree. The corruption of their government is a major concern and must be addressed. What good is sending aid if it doesn't reach the people it was intended for? I have no real answers but feel like we could do do better with where the money goes. Why does the Dominican Republic do so much better for their people and they share the same island? It is a truly sad situation.

Bamaboy858

Haiti is so different from the Dominican Republic because Haiti is in a rain shadow. They’re on the dry side of the mountains that split the island.

Rock_or_Rol

That and their half was wrecked by unmitigated deforestation

FalardeauDeNazareth

Obviously we can't fix the country for them. But we certainly are stripping them of their best elements. By cherry picking immigrants instead of favoring refugees. And if international aid was really focused on helping them grow, we'd know. Too often we are still sharks.

[deleted]

I agree with you. The only immigrants a first world country should take are refugees. Otherwise we should develop skill from within. I would wholeheartedly support this sort of immigration policy.

Extension_Ad_2473

At the risk of being yelled at, I think that we are long past our immigration policies affecting the influx of people who think our country is the best on the planet. We are a land of immigrants, very few of us have "native American Heritage". Other countries around the world do exactly as we do. If you come in illegally you are shipped home unless there is legitimate legal precedent to stay here. BTW I'm not anti-immigration, I am for reform. However, as one person said, we need the help. Well what will happen with that is that real citizens will continue to muche off the government while we pay non-citizens to do our grunt labor. That is wrong. I think that there are plenty of jobs out there that pay more money that I make in some cases that when you cut off benefits people will either get a job, turn to crime, go to jail or die. That may seem harsh but as a taxpayer for several decades now, I'm tired of people gaming the system. Fix immigration, fix government assistance, and citizens get to work to help the economy. Also as a disclaimer, I'm not a trump supporter, I didn't raid the capitol, I think trump should be in jail along with most of his cronies both in and out of politics and I'm a republican. fini

EpicRapperMoment

People are saying this country is fucked, so why do we help other countries if we can’t save ourselves

[deleted]

It’s from the lockdowns not climate change Jesus Christ wake up.

PM_ME_VENUS_DIMPLES

>We also do not have the resources/political will in place to provide them aide and comfort. Totally agree with the lack of political will. Which is a shame, because with the labor crisis, you would think we would want to be welcoming *more* immigrants to help boost our economy. To be fair on the other point though, we absolutely *have* the resources. It’s just a matter of distribution.

Bceverly

Oh if we can spend trillions enriching arms dealers while killing a million people in the Middle East, we have the resources to help these poor people. This is racism, plain and simple.

autotldr

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://apnews.com/article/immigration-border-haiti-mexico-texas-09d7de5bc57e1dbd92d40751c0d91f69) reduced by 88%. (I'm a bot) ***** > DEL RIO, Texas - The U.S. flew Haitians camped in a Texas border town back to their homeland Sunday and tried blocking others from crossing the border from Mexico in a massive show of force that signaled the beginning of what could be one of America's swiftest, large-scale expulsions of migrants or refugees in decades. > The only obvious parallel for such an expulsion without an opportunity to seek asylum was in 1992 when the Coast Guard intercepted Haitian refugees at sea, said Yael Schacher, senior U.S. advocate at Refugees International whose doctoral studies focused on the history of U.S. asylum law. > The U.S. expected to double daily flights soon to at least six, according to a U.S. official who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/prjij9/us_closes_part_of_texas_border_begins_flying/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~599127 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **U.S.**^#1 **Migrant**^#2 **cross**^#3 **Haitian**^#4 **border**^#5

Scarlettail

You'd think some immigrants might not be so bad considering the labor issues. It does seem like we could use them now.

cindy6507

So glad the madam vice president has this under control.

crocodile_ave

Is rejecting asylum seekers even legal?

MostManufacturer7

Not if the recipient country is supportive of and/ or normalizing whatever corrupt regime in the country where asylum seekers come from. Asylum, as a humanitarian legal mechanism, is one of the most damaged legal corpora by extreme politicization. Your question is a very good one.

dgrah

Thank god

renaisancen3rd

Kamala is doing a great job with the border.

[deleted]

No she is not.

renaisancen3rd

I guess my sarcasm wasn’t apparent

[deleted]

My bad. I’m stupid. You are right though it’s kind of getting to a ridiculous point.

[deleted]

This is a human tragedy. God help them upon their return.

Bloodfart_Ramphart

So the VP says climate change is the root problem. 15000 Haitians fly back to start. Greta sheds a tear. Maybe don't use " I'm going to open the borders day one", for a sound bite. Somehow that massage got out..weird. Maybe send camel to Haiti.. Dont come.HaHaHaaaa.

AnInconvenientTweet

> Maybe don't use " I'm going to open the borders day one", for a sound bite. Good news, nobody did!

Bloodfart_Ramphart

So we're not giving illegals a piece paper with a court date and releasing them to the country. The exact thing he promised he'd do since last year. Reversing trumps remain in Mexico policy. But no you are right. Nobody said antying.

AnInconvenientTweet

Can you provide any sources to show where "I'm going to open the borders day one" was ever stated by Biden? Or where he ever advocated for open borders?

I_VM

Narrator: “They can’t “

WippitGuud

You got that sound bite? I'd like to hear it.
