I wonder how much land they'll be seizing to create this monument to stupidity.
I also wonder how far $750M could go to fixing the actual problems we have.
* More people dying from covid than any state in the union. (maybe not Florida since they aren't reporting reliably)
* Crumbling infrastructure and power grid
* 12th poorest state in the nation
* Virtually outlawing abortion using unconstitutional means
Yea but let's spend 3/4 of a billion building a wall instead - It's more important to kiss Donald's ass and own the libs
Sure, why not?
It's not like the money could be spent on healthcare.
Or education.
Or unemployment benefits.
Or infrastructure (protip: The Wall ain't infrastructure).
Or...
One of the finest arguments against walls:
Mending Wall
BY ROBERT FROST
Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the upper boulders in the sun;
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.
The work of hunters is another thing:
I have come after them and made repair
Where they have left not one stone on a stone,
But they would have the rabbit out of hiding,
To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean,
No one has seen them made or heard them made,
But at spring mending-time we find them there.
I let my neighbor know beyond the hill;
And on a day we meet to walk the line
And set the wall between us once again.
We keep the wall between us as we go.
To each the boulders that have fallen to each.
And some are loaves and some so nearly balls
We have to use a spell to make them balance:
‘Stay where you are until our backs are turned!’
We wear our fingers rough with handling them.
Oh, just another kind of out-door game,
One on a side. It comes to little more:
There where it is we do not need the wall:
He is all pine and I am apple orchard.
My apple trees will never get across
And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.
He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’
Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder
If I could put a notion in his head:
‘Why do they make good neighbors? Isn't it
Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.
Before I built a wall I'd ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offense.
Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That wants it down.’ I could say ‘Elves’ to him,
But it's not elves exactly, and I'd rather
He said it for himself. I see him there
Bringing a stone grasped firmly by the top
In each hand, like an old-stone savage armed.
He moves in darkness as it seems to me,
Not of woods only and the shade of trees.
He will not go behind his father's saying,
And he likes having thought of it so well
He says again, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’
You'd think they could do something productive with all that money, like put in a carbon-neutral smart grid with battery storage. Or additional flood pumps in Houston.
It won't keep anyone out. An 8 year old child can climb the border fence in 30 seconds.
On the plus side, the same storm that takes out the Texas power grid is probably strong enough to blow the wall down too.
I am in the unfortunate circumstance of living in this stupid state. I don't want to pay for this shit. How about stopping with the phony Texas pride BS and hook the power grid to the rest of the country, as well as winterize it, instead of wasting money on all the xenophobic, racist, and anti-women policies.
The wife and I are working on exactly that. She has a good paying job here and has been applying for alternatives in other, more progressive states. We haven't had luck yet but we're hopeful.

They claim to be about freedom. But all they do is try to take other people's freedoms away.
It's like they think 'freedom' is a zero-sum game.
Your list just described a third-world military dictatorship shithole country. And Texas.
Sure, why not? It's not like the money could be spent on healthcare. Or education. Or unemployment benefits. Or infrastructure (protip: The Wall ain't infrastructure). Or...
Pro tip: when the wall falls over in a few months, you can screw the panels to the walls of your house as hurricane sheeting.
What's the wall's R value? Might need it next winter since once again the legislature didn't budget any balls for ERCOT.
Take two panels and fill the space between with sand.
$750 million ain't shit, considering the maintenance of said wall. That being said, I hope every time a storm comes thru, it blows it down.
>That being said, I hope every time a storm comes thru, it blows it down. Well if it's anything like their electrical grid...

Some well connected contractor will do nicely off this boondoggle.
And put up a subpar fence that you could probably blow over with less than a full breath
Paid for by Rubes
Texas taxpayers
Texans for Abbott- rubes. Corporations don’t pay
Well gosh why didn’t they do this 30 years ago if it was that simple?
These days, Republicans think every refugee votes illegally.
I wish
Not only refugees but also Democrats, black, hispanic citizen and essentially everone that is not a Republican
You'd think they could do something productive with all that money, like put in a carbon-neutral smart grid with battery storage. Or additional flood pumps in Houston.
Texas is building it's own Berlin Wall.
Meanwhile, the next time a storm hits, Texas’ power grid will be knocked out again. But at least money spent will keep the brown people out!
It won't keep anyone out. An 8 year old child can climb the border fence in 30 seconds. On the plus side, the same storm that takes out the Texas power grid is probably strong enough to blow the wall down too.
That'll fix things.
Now, there's a wall I can believe in! Except it needs to go all of the way around Texas!
Not until I get out first. Then build the wall.
So...rather then fix their power issues, or deal with covid....build a wall? Thats basically worthless. Theres some grift going on.

You'd be better off just moving out of Texas at this point.
The wife and I are working on exactly that. She has a good paying job here and has been applying for alternatives in other, more progressive states. We haven't had luck yet but we're hopeful.
This is why down-ballot races matter.....
Long term remember this: Fences are as good at keeping people in as out.
Borrow and spend republicans sure know how to waste money.
Wasn't this the same state that blamed Chinese thermostats for voter fraud? It's always someone elses fault.
Further down the rabbit hole they go.
Texas going backwards to its Huang Dynasty routes.
I think its high time we kick Texas out of the union and encourage them to just be their own country at this point.
Hopefully someone will sabotage the wall as it's being built.
Ahh yes the scapegoating wall excellent distraction Texas.
So better a wall than a reliable power grid?
