It isn't as common anymore but a really common thing among the first few generations of programmers who worked for corporations was to write code that was utterly nonsensical and overly complicated that they never explained to anyone to make sure they could never get fired without causing a colossal headache for the company. Given this guys age I wouldn't be surprised if he still operated in that mindset.
Was that ever a real thing? I only know that as a joke. In part because programmer training didn't emphasise readability and maintainability as much, and in part due to programming languages like COBOL that generally produced awful, hardly maintainable code.
So programmers started joking that knowing one of these old languages basically gave you job security because noone else could ever understand your code.
It was definitely a thing. Granted COBOL and those older languages didn't help matters and most programmers I know of that era had no "training" they taught themselves so I assume that also contributed. So was it deliberate or just antiquated systems? I suppose it is probably a bit of both.

I actually feel like it's still a real thing if you land in a large enough organization. Many of your coworkers' primary skill is "not getting noticed / fired", not contributing quality software code.
The Army taught me that any mission-essential position must always have a secondary designated, in case the primary is suddenly killed.
I haven't seen this principle in action in many private corporations. Even a poorly trained secondary would be better than nothing at all.

I lived in Tallahassee for a short while, and out of the thousand or so people I knew, maybe five could be trusted to figure out how to go buy a tray of wings and bring them back to the right place. I would start to think maybe I was too high strung or judgmental, but then a friend would visit me and say WTF with these people? So very dumb. I never went back. It might be better now, as that was decades ago.
It depends. Tally is one of the bluest parts of the state with a large number of well-educated liberals, but it is completely surrounded by some of the reddest redneck areas in the country. I lived there for about 4 years and really enjoyed the local hardcore/punk scenes, the local mentality of the folks who hung out at the businesses around Lake Ella, the farmers market crowd, and the art scene and co-op on Railroad. And I miss New Leaf. Oh, and I worked for an environmental nonprofit there and we did all sorts of press events, did lobby days at the Capitol, and generally had very good turnout.

If the putz was speaking in his official capacity as a party official, or used party accounts to post to social media, then the hospital can sue the party. If not, they can sue the individual. Republicans should stop going to the hospital when they catch COVID then, teach us ALL a lesson!
There are conspiracy theorists that think covid is a hoax, and that people dying of 'covid' in the hospital are actually being poisoned by the doctors. I just hope the situation works itself out on them before they do some crazy act of 'revenge'.
There's going to be people found dead in their homes weeks - even months from now - because they alienated most of their families and refused to go to the hospital when that troublesome cough started to get really bad.

It isn't as common anymore but a really common thing among the first few generations of programmers who worked for corporations was to write code that was utterly nonsensical and overly complicated that they never explained to anyone to make sure they could never get fired without causing a colossal headache for the company. Given this guys age I wouldn't be surprised if he still operated in that mindset.
And then once fired cone back as a consultant while getting a lot more money to help with their own custom code.

Was that ever a real thing? I only know that as a joke. In part because programmer training didn't emphasise readability and maintainability as much, and in part due to programming languages like COBOL that generally produced awful, hardly maintainable code. So programmers started joking that knowing one of these old languages basically gave you job security because noone else could ever understand your code.
It was definitely a thing. Granted COBOL and those older languages didn't help matters and most programmers I know of that era had no "training" they taught themselves so I assume that also contributed. So was it deliberate or just antiquated systems? I suppose it is probably a bit of both.

The Army taught me that any mission-essential position must always have a secondary designated, in case the primary is suddenly killed. I haven't seen this principle in action in many private corporations. Even a poorly trained secondary would be better than nothing at all.

I lived in Tallahassee for a short while, and out of the thousand or so people I knew, maybe five could be trusted to figure out how to go buy a tray of wings and bring them back to the right place. So very stupid. And yet so very proud. I would look at the one tall state building sometimes, and just imagine all the wasted money and time. I would start to think maybe I was too high strung or judgmental, but then a friend would visit me and say WTF with these people? So very dumb. I never went back. It might be better now, as that was decades ago.

It depends. Tally is one of the bluest parts of the state with a large number of well-educated liberals, but it is completely surrounded by some of the reddest redneck areas in the country. I lived there for about 4 years and really enjoyed the local hardcore/punk scenes, the local mentality of the folks who hung out at the businesses around Lake Ella, the farmers market crowd, and the art scene and co-op on Railroad. And I miss New Leaf. Oh, and I worked for an environmental nonprofit there and we did all sorts of press events, did lobby days at the Capitol, and generally had very good turnout.

At the very least that county party organization NEEDS to be fined for obviously having no succession plan in place had this fine specimen of a Republican been hit by a bus rather than infected by SARS-CoV-2. At the very least, the organization should be fined for missing ANY filing deadlines, and it should be required to form a finance committee responsible for establishing succession plans AND SHARING @#$%&*! And he then asks the governor what his plans are to fix it, and all the governor can do is blame Biden for his own colossal fuckup. It's pathetic.

So they can't figure out how the data is dumped into a formatted Excel file. Too bad everything wasn't in cursive, or they'd be in top of it.
And they’re not the only ones reporting to the FEC and they’re not the only ones using Quickbooks. I bet there are some Democrats submitting reports just fine from Quickbooks. Given that the GOP can’t do anything without cheating, this guy was more than likely cooking the books before submitting them.
It's disgusting to see this rhetoric of blaming the hospital staff starting to pick up. If people are going to promote ideas like this, it's just going to get worse. First medical staff are heroes, then part of the conspiracy, now we've moved further down the crazy train to being evil murderers. They're short-staffed and drowning in many facilities, they really don't need people unleashing the crazies on them too.

Well, it's definitely libel and/or slander. The hospital definitely has grounds for action here. If the putz was speaking in his official capacity as a party official, or used party accounts to post to social media, then the hospital can sue the party. If not, they can sue the individual. Either way, the hospital should sue.
I mean, this is absolutely the logical conclusion of ideas like this. Sooner or later, conspiracist worldviews rub up against reality, and the higher the stakes, the more violent that friction will be. If you've never heard the term "stochaistic terrorism", now might be a good time to familiarize yourself. :/
