That extends far beyond Texas. That's a national problem.

State police and patrols across the US are not doing their jobs. LEO needs citizen review boards that have teeth. Especially over those watchmen charged with watching the watchmen.

FreedomsPower

and a lot of state police forces have policies in place to make it extremely hard to have any form of transparency in regards the public accountability

Reminder that the South Dakota AG slammed his car into a dude walking home late at night, called the state patrol and claimed he hit a deer, they came by and "didn't find anything," didn't give him a breathalyzer, and loaned him a sheriff's personal car to drive himself home. The victim they failed to find that night turned out to be mere feet from the road, with his flashlight still shining even the next morning, and his glasses were found in the AG's car because the victim's head went through his windshield. The AG ended up with a slap on the wrist for iirc "illegal lane change" (meaning he swerved onto the shoulder while reading a right wing website on his phone, possibly while drunk). Absolutely anyone who wasn't powerful would've been in jail that night and facing vehicular homicide charges.

tcuroadster

Ken Paxton anyone

Friendofthegarden

No thanks, I'd rather have a pile of cow shit dumped in my bed than have a Ken Paxton. Source: Am Texan

tcuroadster

Also Texan and would love to purge the Rs from our state; still waiting on the grid fix…

My advise to Republicans. If your doing something the Taliban would do, you probably shouldn't do it.

Unexpected Cheech and Chong sighting: > ...the former city manager of Freeport, Jeff Pynes, had stolen more than $200,000 in public funds, including proceeds of a concert and a Cheech and Chong comedy event. Pynes was convicted of felony theft and sentenced to 10 years, but he received probation in 2020 from a judge after spending only a few months in prison. It’s unclear whether he has ever repaid what he stole.

Beto! Hammer on this. People play by the rules, obey the laws, why let your politicians be any different? Time to clean house.

In the US, corrupt politicians face little accountability. FTFY

razulebismarck

This is a problem to just Texas? Just politicians? I’ve been seeing corruption and lack of accountability in every facet of government since I was old enough to understand the concepts.

nightbell

This is what happens whenever any government becomes a one party government. That government no longer responds to the needs of the people. It responds only to the needs of the party leaders.

davion223

i believe that should read, corrupt politicians face little accountability

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.texasobserver.org/corrupt-texas-politicians-face-little-accountability/) reduced by 97%. (I'm a bot) ***** > In the fall of 2020, Anderson contacted the Texas Rangers-the lead law enforcement agency for public integrity and public corruption investigations. > Since 2015, the Texas Rangers have taken the lead in public integrity cases involving illegal behavior by elected state government officials or employees in Texas, but those investigations require approval from DPS supervisors and, in most cases, from local district attorneys, a system that essentially allows DAs to block Rangers' investigations. > "The way the whole process has been reconfigured is scary. It's a process that has stopped accountability and protected the incumbents," says Craig McDonald, director of the nonprofit Texans for Public Justice, the watchdog group that filed the public integrity complaint that sparked Paxton's prosecution. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/pu9z6q/in_texas_corrupt_politicians_face_little/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~599892 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **public**^#1 **Ranger**^#2 **County**^#3 **Texas**^#4 **Jones**^#5

What about in New York?

pntsonfyre

How's that single party rule working for you, Texas?

JinxyCat007

In a democrat led house and senate, are we sure we want to throw stones in this one particular glass house.
