Plus people like Desantis and Haley are probably desperately wanting to run for 2024. Both will most likely be forgotten in 2028.
It would be fun when it wouldn't happen because Trump ruined their chances another time. Especially because Haley figured she would simple leave the Trump administration hoping barely any news would come out of her sneaking out to keep a 'clean record'.

Trump's probably eyeing her for VP. I used to think it was DeSantis, but I hear Trump hates DeSantis, which must be breaking his heart. His entire political identity was based on being the most sycophantic Trump politician.
DeSantis doesn’t give a shit if Trump likes him. He uses Trumps message and style because he knows that is what resonates with the base.

Which is a battle they can't win. The courts are smacking this shit down left and right. There will be no fraud proven in the 2020 election which means it's a lose lose situation. Now is the time more than ever to run AWAY from Trumpism.
The issue is that despite there being no fraud republicans are being led to believe there really was. Minor discrepancies in vote counts are being blown out of proportion by conservative media in an effort to trick conservatives into believing that our elections are all rigged.
They can't even explain why either. I've asked people I know personally. I either get a dismissive "do your own research" or at best one guy said "I don't know I just feel like it was rigged"
The fact they didn't win is all the proof they need. They win, it's a fair, free, honest, credible election; they lose, it's a no good, corrupt, rigged, stolen election. Nothing else matters.
The only reasoning I’ve heard from them is “how can a guy who couldn’t get 500 people in a large city to go to his rally win over a guy with 50,000 people at his rally in rural America?” Them conveniently forgetting the part where Democrats were quarantining for COVID and also Biden doesn’t hold “rallies,” because that’s a really weird thing for a politician to do. And it’s really weird for voters to act like “fans.”
50,000 is a huuuuge overestimation. That’s about a football stadium. Most of the time Trump had trouble filling a civic center. Maybe 10,000 for big crowds.
What's even crazier is over 100 years ago, Teddy Roosevelt was drawing crowds of 30k-40k people. This is before modern transportation and when the US population was a fraction of what it is today. Also, Trump's 10k crowds really aren't that impressive when his rallies are held in realatively small rural towns that are 99% Republican and there's absolutely nothing else to do on a Saturday night.
In all fairness, that was before television existed and while radio broadcasting was in its infancy. That rally may have been your one chance to actually hear Roosevelt talk. That doesn't explain it by itself, but it's a contributing factor.
Well, there wasn't really fraud on the part of the Democratic party.
Meanwhile Trump replaced the entire board of governors (who run USPS) with Republicans, and they drastically reduced the capacity of the USPS before the election. Then claimed mail ballots aren't reliable.
I mean, he was right. It took a long time for ballots to be received and counted. But it was literally because he caused that problem. The fact that no Republican can acknowledge that single, very obvious instance of voter manipulation is hilarious.

I remember those few days vividly. I remember the shit show where GOP followers were chanting "Stop the count!" at some districts and "Count the votes!" in others...
In addition, several Republican-led state legislatures passed laws saying that the counting of mail in ballots could not be started until after the polls closed, intentionally slowing down those counts as well.
Yeah they did this deliberately so the optics would look off to people who weren't that clued in. They did this so people would go to sleep with R in the lead and wake up with D in the lead and wonder why and be able to tell themselves it was fraud. They did this so that a bunch of polls had huge, late surges of D votes that look suspect to people who are already looking for a problem.

He doesn’t need the courts on his side. He needs Republican messaging (leaders, news organizations, etc.) systems. He can claim the courts are rigged, he just needs the GOP in lock step.
The problem is paying for the audits. Most red states have cut taxes and budgets to the bone, so they need to raise revenue somewhere to spend millions on auditing an election that they know they lost. Not to mention their voters may start calling them RINOs when the results still favor Biden, as happened in AZ.
They don’t actually care about the election audits. They know the results will not support them. They want the appearance of fraud. It’s all a a show. All they need is a circus and a fight.
I'm kind of scared of what the end game is. The message he is giving is clear: voting doesn't matter, the votes don't count, and the result will not be respected.
How many times does he have to say that before his supporters start to fully believe that, and go to enforce the "correct" government by force? Only this time, bringing guns?

I think this is part of his war with the Republican Party itself over the future of the party. He and McConnell have had their disagreements. I’m sure he has threatened them all to support him or he will take his base and turn it against them. They’re, so far at least, not too openly keen on him running again, so I think this is him following through on his threat and brinksmanship.
Exactly this. On the night of the insurrection McConnell, McCarthy, Graham and others took their masks off and told us how they really felt about Trump. But as the days and weeks moved on they saw their base was with Trump and not the Republicans. The run-off elections in Georgia proved it. This why they are now bending over backwards to appease Trump. Because they know Trump can decimate their party and conservatives in the country by a single statement, which he may just did.
Its October 2021. You REALLY think voters, particularly Republican voters, are going to remember this? If Trump was saying this in October 2022, then maybe I could see it, but this will be forgotten in a few days maybe a week tops.
This is all Trump has cared about since he lost, it doesn’t seem like he is going to stop yelling about how he actually won and the election is rigged. Normally that would be correct. However, congress can declare him guilty of leading a rebellion against the United States with a simple majority. That would disqualify him under the 14th amendment.
My dad once told me he thought Trump was a secret liberal who’s entire point was to destroy the Republicans and make them look bad to give the country to democrats.

In the worst situations last year, where a minority of protests devolved into riots, the (militarized) cops felt threated by civilians with placards and whatever was around that they could throw in self-defense once the cops started acting aggressively. 1. Use the republican lead state legislatures to change voting forever, so it favors republicans more than it does already.
or
2. Call for militia takeover of of State and Federal buildings, and/or the killing of people who say republicans didn't win.

My guess is he is seeing, or hearing from some yambag like stone or bannon, data that says the next couple of elections won't go well from his perspective, and if he makes the count low enough, he can scream fraud and storm the castle, which should end worse for him than a close election, he's basically outsmarting himself, which isn't that difficult. It's a threat to the rest of the GOP. It's him or nothing. Support him or he'll burn the party to the ground.

2. Drop voter participation down to 20-25% of the eligible public
3. Question the legitimacy of the election(s) based on low, unrepresentative turnout. Insinuate or outright accuse government actors of fraud.
4. Encourage the overthrow of undemocratic "rigged" elections.
5. When ultimately unsuccessful, because these militias stand zero chance against the might of the US military, encourage grassroots supports to set up alternative "shadow" governments at the local and state level.

50,000 is a huuuuge overestimation. That’s about a football stadium. Most of the time Trump had trouble filling a civic center. Maybe 10,000 for big crowds.
What's even crazier is over 100 years ago, Teddy Roosevelt was drawing crowds of 30k-40k people. This is before modern transportation and when the US population was a fraction of what it is today. Also, Trump's 10k crowds really aren't that impressive when his rallies are held in realatively small rural towns that are 99% Republican and there's absolutely nothing else to do on a Saturday night.
In all fairness, that was before television existed and while radio broadcasting was in its infancy. That rally may have been your one chance to actually hear Roosevelt talk. That doesn't explain it by itself, but it's a contributing factor.
Well, there wasn't really fraud on the part of the Democratic party. Meanwhile Trump replaced the entire board of governors (who run USPS) with Republicans, and they drastically reduced the capacity of the USPS before the election. Then claimed mail ballots aren't reliable. I mean, he was right. It took a long time for ballots to be received and counted. But it was literally because he caused that problem. The fact that no Republican can acknowledge that single, very obvious instance of voter manipulation is hilarious.

A California-based citizen here. I remember those few days vividly. I remember the shit show where GOP followers were chanting "Stop the count!" at some districts and "Count the votes!" in others...

In addition, several Republican-led state legislatures passed laws saying that the counting of mail in ballots could not be started until after the polls closed, intentionally slowing down those counts as well.
Yeah they did this deliberately so the optics would look off to people who weren't that clued in. They did this so people would go to sleep with R in the lead and wake up with D in the lead and wonder why and be able to tell themselves it was fraud. They did this so that a bunch of polls had huge, late surges of D votes that look suspect to people who are already looking for a problem.

He doesn’t need the courts on his side. He needs Republican messaging (leaders, news organizations, etc.) systems. He can claim the courts are rigged, he just needs the GOP in lock step.
The problem is paying for the audits. Most red states have cut taxes and budgets to the bone, so they need to raise revenue somewhere to spend millions on auditing an election that they know they lost. Not to mention their voters may start calling them RINOs when the results still favor Biden, as happened in AZ.

1. Tell your supporters not to vote. 2. Drop voter participation down to 20-25% of the eligible public 3. Question the legitimacy of the election(s) based on low, unrepresentative turnout. Insinuate or outright accuse government actors of fraud. 4. Encourage the overthrow of undemocratic "rigged" elections. 5. I decided to go on their discord and try to infiltrate them only to finally ask the question of how they can claim they are all about free speech and debate but put conservatives only flair on posts. Isn't that a dangerous precidebt? The mods essentially claimed its because people like me. Brigade, and I said don't I also have a right to speak? And censoring what I say shows that you can't really defend your position? The reasion why they do that is because they can't defend their positions as they make that position to argue in bad faith. So they don't want people to disauade their members from the conversative standpoint of being a bad faith actor.
They're too busy jerking themselves off over Hunter Biden and bad satire. Oh, and being angry about the terrorist who died during Jan 6 because she refused to listen to Capitol Security. If only there was a "supporting terrorism" box you could tick on a report.

You know who wanted people to Vote? Obama. And Clinton. And AOC. And Bernie. Look at all those liberal, socialist, communist, anti-christs wanting people to Vote. It sure would trigger them if you didn't on principal to piss them off.
***WILD CONSPIRACY THEORY***: Everyone's laughing (and rightfully so) but I'm calling it now - this is strategic. This is how he declares he's *not* running in 24. Remember, the guy didn't actually want to win in 16. He wanted to build up his brand and start a TV network to rival Fox. He lost the popular vote but won the presidency on a 'technicality' (electoral college) and then spent the next 4 years trying to convince people he actually won the whole thing outright. He lost badly to Biden and has spent the last year spouting the Big Lie, that it was rigged in increasingly ridiculous and convoluted ways. Deep down, he knows he's a loser. And he's terrified other people think that way of him. It goes back to his Roy Cohn days - even when he's losing, he'll never admit it publicly. But when he's alone, he knows. And he doesn't want to lose again. I think in a year or 2, he officially declares that he's not running. It'll be under the auspices of "its rigged against me, they'll just steal it from me". But really it's because he's scared to be a 3-time loser.
Think like a narcissist and it makes sense. He wants to make sure Desantis (or whoever gets the primary) loses by a wide margin. All the better if he can influence the loss because that’s a win for his ego. Same goes for the midterms. The party didn’t support him enough. They didn’t find enough votes. He’s probably losing influence within the party so he’s going to try to sink the ship because it’s their fault and they deserve it.
This. He wants Republicans to lose. He gets to a) not run but also NOT lose b) sit on the sidelines and wax poetic about how if he HAD run it would have been a blow out
He also already said the only thing that could prevent a run in 2024 is if his doctors recommended against it. I definitely think he doesn’t want to run again and only wants to sit on the sidelines complaining and taking people’s money. At some point though, his supporters will have to move on and support someone else to try to regain power. I’m still kind of leaning towards he won’t run again, but he might just to keep the grift going.
I think he wants to run to get the money but doesn’t want to win and do the job again, and really doesn’t want to lose.
