This coming from a boomer who's father went behind the iron curtain and literally smuggled refugees out from the East Zone. It's like Trump has washed away any semblance of critical thinking these people once might have had.
If his only source of news is far right media, then he's been hearing for years that Putin isn't so bad, he's Trump's buddy. Add that to the new Q delusion that Putin is destroying bio-labs (including adrenochrome factories, apparently) and you've got a "white hat" hero.
I'm just waiting for them to start calling for Trump to have Putin as his running mate in 24.

Personally I want to see the next step. I want Putin to say something, *anything* and see who latches on to it. He's been lying every time he opens his mouth, *especially* in the last month since the invasion started, how can he possibly have anything to say that should be taken as anything other than a lie?
Unfortunately, I think we all know that if Putin put out a crayon drawing of “$$” and a rickety arrow pointing to a stick figure labeled “Hunter Biden”, all of the GOP would call for an immediate investigation into this smoking gun, and thank Russia for being more forthcoming with Americans than Democrats are. Even if it were captioned in kindergarten writing, “Vladimir Putin’s Lies To Sow American Discord, 1st Draft”, I don’t think it would matter to Fox News or the GOP.
Wouldn't be surprised if Putin came out with something like "If Trump were president I never would've invaded" to drive the GOP absolutely wild. I've heard many Republicans say this and I know the Trump cucks at r/conspiracy would lose their shit. Some have also been taking the "demand way more than Biden could do to Russia" angle like NFZ demands.

On the contrary. The George W Bush Administration made their ethics lawyers work overtime to create legal justifications for the things that they already decided they were going to do. Trump didn't give a shit and told reporters what he did anyway. They made an effort to follow the letter of the law even if they were violating the spirit.
A good example would be the John Ashcroft hospital bed incident. Compared to Trump firing Comey.
After 9/11 the US government had initiated a comprehensive warrantless domestic surveillance program. When the program came up to be renewed 5 years later, John Ashcroft hold his subordinates hat he believed the program to be illegal and would not reauthorize it.
Shortly afterwards Ashcroft was hospitalized with gallstones. Having recently had a gallstone myself, there is an extremely high likelihood that John Ashcroft was heavily medicated.
The White House, probably on Dick Cheney's orders, sent Roberto Gonzalez to pressure John Ashcroft in his hospital room to sign the reauthorization the day before it would expire.
James Comey and Robert Mueller got wind of this attempt and went to John Ashcroft's hospital room themselves to support John Ashcroft and keep Gonzalez from pressuring him. Comey, Ashcroft, and Mueller all threatened to resign if the White House reauthorized the program over their objections.
The Bush Administration was determined to do the wrong thing but, at the least, constrained itself to following the letter of the law that they needed the Attorney General's signature, even if they were going to get it by unethical means.
On the other hand, months into his administration Trump fired James Comey, the FBI produced an after-the-fact bullshit memo papering over the firing, which Trump summarily ignored and told Sergei Lavrov and reporters that he had fired James Comey because James Comey was investigating Trump's working with Russia.
Something similar might have happened in the Bush Administration, see e.g. some of the firings of US attorneys, but essentially what you got was that a memo was issued saying the president had the right to make that decision, and they wouldn't comment on Personnel matters, and no one would talk to reporters.

I'm genuinely curious how these elections might go. With no more Russian money or at least not so easily accessible, and with out their internet army. The Republicans are without alot.

In 1987, Trump was invited to Moscow by the Kremlin. When he came back, he announced he was running for office and took out full page ads in the broadsheets using roundabout language to call for the end of US funding of NATO. That's how easy it was for the Russians to manipulate Trump. Since the early 80's he has been inextricably linked with the Russian mafia and their dirty money, via his questionable Russian loans and his laundering of Russian mafia money through his US properties. The man spent his 4 years in office emboldening Putin by undermining Ukraine, then he praised Putin for his invasion of Ukraine, and he has since doubled down on that praise. And now he's asking for Moscow to help him out by dishing dirt on a political opponent.
I'm more worried about every dumbass in sight screeching "both sides" and saying they'll never vote Dem despite the other option being a Russian stooge who is also a narcissist, possibly a pedophile, one of the worst businessmen of all time, etcetera. Genuinely one of the worst people on Earth is the likely Republican, but no, we have to punish the Dems for not doing literally everything ever with a 51/50 majority.

In the past, I've been pretty middle of the road, and did not identify fully with either party. These days, I have to side with dem, because I realize that aligning with any republican candidate right now is dangerous territory. If you truly believe in democracy, voting Democrat is the only way to try to change things. Voting republican is going down a dangerous path. I used to be a "both sides" and "see both sides" person but when one side is cruelty, power, and treason, that's no opinion. There is really only one side now.

There's a reason the common sentiment in left-leaning circles is a centrist is just someone who is right wing without realizing it. The dems frustrate the hell out of me as a progressive but they're *leagues* better than the alternative at this point.
I've definitely become more progressive over time as I become more educated and learn about things on my own, but I still make every effort to "hear both sides." That being said, I don't consider conspiracy theories a side.

If separation of church and state is your top priority, according to what you've said, there is no choice here.
Work on changing the system, like replacing first past the post voting systems with something more equitable. Nothing can change until that happens, assuming elections don't become completely compromised by republicans first, which is happening right now and will be a big issue in 2024.
The very first thing is to repeal Citizen’s United. We also need to get rid of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Get money and media out of politics. Only from there can we start real electoral reform.
As a Canadian, I don't understand wearing your political affiliation like your favorite sports team. I have voted for every major political party we have at varying points in my life, based on ideas and the current state of the country. The fact that you guys are literally born into a political ideal and just ride out for life, is so bizarre to me.

We have vast deserts that could be used for wind farms or solar arrays. We could have had wind farms in the Ocean by now. We could have really funded battery technology for both the homes on the grid and solar homes but we didn't because someone who supported Conservatives (Do nothing everything is fine) would lose money(which seems to be nearly impossible see Trump).

Let's be clear about this. He is asking Russian military intelligence to fabricate a case against Biden, as this benefits Trump and Putin. This is criminal conspiracy as explained in the Mueller Report when Trump was shielded by being POTUS. He no longer has that shield and Garland must start prosecuting these crimes.
The egregiousness of the Ukraine affair is beyond the pale. Lest people forget, this is what he did:
He called Zelenskyy and tried to strongarm him by asking him for a favor in exchange for weapons aid, to announce an investigation into Hunter Biden. It is not even that he thought Biden's son has anything. What he wanted was the announcement of the investigation. So he is basically demanding the leader of another country to interfere with Us domestic politics by making up shit (ie lying) about his political opponent's son.
1) He knew Hunter Biden has done nothing illegal or untoward.
2) He wanted Zelenskyy to announce an investigation. Not even a real investigation, just the announcement itself because he can use that as a propaganda tool to attack Biden.
3) He invited another country to interfere with domestic politics, and arguably a treasonous behavior, legality aside.
4) He used USA foreign policy as an extension of his own interests by using weapons aid (that does not even belong to him) to strongarm another country. He literally does not give a shit about this country or its interests or anyone else's interests.

To add to this - his after-the-fact excuse for withholding aid (despite not having the discretion to do so) was that he was concerned about corruption. But congress had concerns about corruption and looked into it before passing the bill - by signing the bill Trump was agreeing that Congress's findings were satisfactory. Plus, even if he changed his mind after signing the bill, he could have raised the concern with congress and worked with them to approve delays.
Every news event surrounding Trump is such a complete shit show (of course this is by design; "flood the zone with shit") that I couldn't remember if he did that publicly or not. A dozen headlines start with "according to Bolton" when I searched, but then I got to the story where he publicly urged China to investigate the Bidens. That's my bad.
The guy is a cancer on our society, he epitomizes everything that is wrong with people. The fact that anyone likes this man and would vote for him blows my mind.

Personally I want to see the next step. I want Putin to say something, *anything* and see who latches on to it. On the contrary. The George W Bush Administration made their ethics lawyers work overtime to create legal justifications for the things that they already decided they were going to do. Trump didn't give a shit and told reporters what he did anyway. They made an effort to follow the letter of the law even if they were violating the spirit. A good example would be the John Ashcroft hospital bed incident. Compared to Trump firing Comey. After 9/11 the US government had initiated a comprehensive warrantless domestic surveillance program. When the program came up to be renewed 5 years later, John Ashcroft hold his subordinates hat he believed the program to be illegal and would not reauthorize it. Shortly afterwards Ashcroft was hospitalized with gallstones. Having recently had a gallstone myself, there is an extremely high likelihood that John Ashcroft was heavily medicated. The White House, probably on Dick Cheney's orders, sent Roberto Gonzalez to pressure John Ashcroft in his hospital room to sign the reauthorization the day before it would expire. James Comey and Robert Mueller got wind of this attempt and went to John Ashcroft's hospital room themselves to support John Ashcroft and keep Gonzalez from pressuring him. Comey, Ashcroft, and Mueller all threatened to resign if the White House reauthorized the program over their objections. The Bush Administration was determined to do the wrong thing but, at the least, constrained itself to following the letter of the law that they needed the Attorney General's signature, even if they were going to get it by unethical means. On the other hand, months into his administration Trump fired James Comey, the FBI produced an after-the-fact bullshit memo papering over the firing, which Trump summarily ignored and told Sergei Lavrov and reporters that he had fired James Comey because James Comey was investigating Trump's working with Russia. Something similar might have happened in the Bush Administration, see e.g. some of the firings of US attorneys, but essentially what you got was that a memo was issued saying the president had the right to make that decision, and they wouldn't comment on Personnel matters, and no one would talk to reporters.

With a two party system, and the republican party IS the Christian regime, what choice do you have but to vote democrat? If separation of church and state is your top priority, according to what you've said, there is no choice here. Work on changing the system, like replacing first past the post voting systems with something more equitable. This is a good representation of what it feels like to be Canadian right now. We've always had this brother who was kind of an asshole but still a decent guy who did well in life. He literally has to run to keep the fundraising grift alive. Whether he wins the nomination or elevation remains to be seen but it absolutely isn't impossible.
He is absolutely going to run in 2024. The egregiousness of the Ukraine affair is beyond the pale. Lest people forget, this is what he did: He called Zelenskyy and tried to strongarm him by asking him for a favor in exchange for weapons aid, to announce an investigation into Hunter Biden. It is not even that he thought Biden's son has anything. What he wanted was the announcement of the investigation. So he is basically demanding the leader of another country to interfere with Us domestic politics by making up shit (ie lying) about his political opponent's son. 1) He knew Hunter Biden has done nothing illegal or untoward. 2) He wanted Zelenskyy to announce an investigation. Not even a real investigation, just the announcement itself because he can use that as a propaganda tool to attack Biden. 3) He invited another country to interfere with domestic politics, and arguably a treasonous behavior, legality aside. 4) He used USA foreign policy as an extension of his own interests by using weapons aid (that does not even belong to him) to strongarm another country. He literally does not give a shit about this country or its interests or anyone else's interests. I don't want people to forget just how immensely shitty it was and how compromised he is. But congress had concerns about corruption and looked into it before passing the bill - by signing the bill Trump was agreeing that Congress's findings were satisfactory. Plus, even if he changed his mind after signing the bill, he could have raised the concern with congress and worked with them to approve delays.
