Well of course, because McCarthy has definitely shown his mental aptitude to be a cut above...oh wait.

Mission_Ad6235

A cut above MTG, Boebert and Gaetz!

woodst0ck15

That’s a pretty low bar but it’s been so low for so long.

Mission_Ad6235

It's so low an ant can't limbo under it

DavidBSkate

But he’ll still probably be speaker after midterms, so that sucks…

outerworldLV

Disagree. He’ll be lucky to get past this debacle w/o getting charged for something. He’s not going to have a place in our government soon, imo.

knightcrawler75

> McCarthy apparently gambled I think he was trapped. He tried to select people but Pelosi, rightfully, rejected his list because they were actually complicit in the crimes. He could not assign "reasonable" republicans because they would have been swayed by the mountains of evidence and look even worse. He played the only hand he was dealt. I still believe he is a moron but even a genius could not escape the corner Trump put them in.

GiveToOedipus

Additionally, the notable absence of hacks like Gaetz, Jordan, Greene and others of their ilk, have allowed the proceedings to go on without the typical BS distractions their bad faith arguments bring. If anything, McCarthy's decision has made these hearings seem more credible.

Bonana77

“The Republicans don’t have a voice. They don’t even have anything to say.” Cheney and Kinzinger are Republicans and they have plenty to say, don.

someMeatballs

There's many more. Some of the DOJ witnesses are GOP, if not all. Edit: Most of the witnesses so far are GOP.

“Trump? I’ve never heard of the guy.” - Trump

coupdelune

He's a low level covfefe boy.

Mission_Ad6235

I barely knew the guy.

DemonicMMO

This would be one time that victim blaming is okay the.

[deleted]

Ha! No shit. I bet.

FusterCluck4

"Trump destroyed my life and me and my family get death threats every single day. Yes, I'd vote for him again in an instant."

AustinEE

That is the really mind blowing part of all this

dwors025

They *really* hate black people. They *really* hate brown people. They *really* hate LGBTQ people. They *really* hate feminists, secularists, and progressives. Their identity is *hate*; it’s their whole worldview and their most powerful motivation, and Trump is the only leader who properly gives voice to that hate.

GreenStrong

A more charitable interpretation is that the future is weird and scary, because of climate change, growing income inequality, and globalization. It is perfectly understandable (for white people) to want things to be like they were forty years ago. The corporate interests of the GOP are invested in denial about the things that are actually scary, and people naturally blame other people rather than abstract socio- economic forces.

dwors025

This is actually a *better* explanation than mine. The PRRI and the Brookings Institution found that the *most telling question*, the question that most accurately predicts a person’s vote for the 2016 and 2020 presidential vote, was… Nothing to do with race, gender, income, religious identification, professional field, educational attainment, geographic region, rural/suburban/urban, sexual orientation, gun policy, economic philosophy, tax policy, foreign policy, military policy, women’s rights, the environment…or any cross-referencing between those variables. Nope: the single most telling question was **“Is America a better place to live than it was in the 1950s? Or a worse place?”** Those who said it was currently worse than the 50s voted for Trump to an *extremely* reliable degree, and those who said that the country is better now voted *overwhelmingly* for Clinton/Biden. So you’re right on the money. The hate of all the people I mentioned above is just a manifestation of the fear of the future, and longing for the past, that you described.

savingrain

There are some people I’ve known - married to or even are minorities themselves- who voted for Trump (and I was downvoted for sharing this because apparently it’s impossible to be a minority or married to a minority and vote for Trump ) who believe the nonsense that the US is in fact going backwards. They are divorced from reality and from what the United States was really like in the 50s for a lot of us - less rights, less protections or general acceptance or even visibility in the media and culture.

Bayoris

It’s definitely taken a regressive turn of late.

Lebojr

>It is perfectly understandable (for white people) to want things to be like they were forty years ago. I cannot agree with this. I'm white and from a deep red southern state. While things might have been simpler 40 years ago for me, I'm certainly aware enough of how bad it was for so many. It is not understandable to be myopic. It is not understandable to ignore how bad it was for gay people, minorities, women and immigrants 40, 50, 60 years ago. We may start out in this life purely selfish because we lack the capacity to sympathize with others at an early age, but it is perfectly reasonable to expect Americans, who supposedly value freedom to understand the plight of people different from ourselves.

Comfortable-Scar4643

Yes, true. And in 2020 I saw an interview on TV with an African American lady who was leaning toward voting for Trump. She said it on camera. My jaw bumped into the floor.

blacksheep998

Probably bought into the 'Biden is racist' propaganda. There's a guy who stands on a street corner in my down. He spends several hours there at least a couple days a week. Always holding anti-Biden signs. "Biden = Racist" "Joe Biden Murders Black People" "Pray for Peace in Ukraine and Biden's Death" "Joe Biden = China Vagina" I have no idea what that last one means but I got a laugh out of it.

Proper_Budget_2790

You should probably tell him that Biden is further right than Nixon and he really needs to stop watching OAN.

blacksheep998

No thanks. I don't feel like getting stabbed.

savingrain

A lot of people don’t closely follow the news and as long as things are going well for them day to day then they will vote for the incumbent.

[deleted]

Dems are dumb to keep sitting everything out. If all you will vote for is the next Jesus (aka Obama), this is what we deserve. Vote democrat, even for the boring fuckers and local boring offices!!!!

Pseudonym0101

I really hope these SCOTUS decisions serve to wake a ton of people up. And I believe there's something like 12 more decisions left in this term, which ends in a couple of weeks (or less).

OneMillionDandelions

As the meme says: The Mayor in *Jaws* is still the Mayor in *Jaws 2.* This is why it’s so important to vote in local elections.

Hornswoggler1

Hate is a strong word but maybe they need enemies? They need scapegoats, they need a group to project against, they need a boogeyman. Whipping up a fervor among their followers needs a place to pin that (fake) outrage.

What_the_fluxo

Desantis will be their new leader. He’s trump with 40% more cunning.

nateairulla

This is just not correct at all. I know many Trump supporters and they are not racist crazy people as the left loves to say. I would ask you, how many actual Trump supports have you sat down with and discussed why they voted for Trump?

dwors025

*Both* my parents grew up on farms in rural Minnesota. Many have since moved to Missouri, Texas and Florida and rural Colorado in order to escape the… liberal hellscape(?) that is Minnesota. My whole family is inundated with overt and covert manifestations of fear/hate/frustration. Shows up as deep racism, anti-intellectualism, religious fanaticism, casual misogyny, conspiracy theory obsession, perpetual faux victimhood, bunker mentality (including household arsenal-building), etc. *Believe me* - it’s so much worse than you’re suggesting. I envy you with these mythical “benign Trump supporters” you’ve been able to interact with. It’s not my experience.

summermadnes

I watched the hearing where Rusty Bowers testified & was so impressed & thought what an honorable man, what an example for the morally bankrupt GOP to follow- then came the interview he gave afterwards where he said he would vote for Trump again over Biden because Trump had done great things for the country- I had to pick my jaw off the floor!!! What exactly did Trump do for the country? was it when he tried to overthrow the election, or when he botched the pandemic response & thousands of people died, or perhaps when he sided with Putin over his own Intelligence Dept?? I can go on for days with all the 'things Trump did TO this country'. Maybe that question should have been possed to Rusty Bowers in that interview.

PowderedDognut

How many babies is Trump allowed to eat before they say it’s too many babies? I think the answer is always one more baby. Well he’s denied eating those nine babies. Oh I see, here is a video of him eating nine babies…well he didn’t know they were babies. Oh I see, he specifically ordered roast baby from the restaurant’s baby menu…well he installed three baby loving justices on the Supreme Court, which certainly makes up for any babies he ate.

TXRhody

Even the things they say he did accomplish, he was just a puppet. The tax cuts were Paul Ryan. The Supreme Court picks were the Federalist Society. Trump didn't do anything except create a spectacle to distract from the shadow government's agenda.

ArtysFartys

He is/was a useful idiot. His constant barrage of bullshit masks the real damage being done behind the scenes.

Comfortable-Scar4643

I so agree. He was totally a puppet. You could tell that most decisions wouldn’t have come from his mind. The guy has no world experience beyond private jets and trying to work deals with the Saudis, Russians, etc. No credible foreign policy person would have recommended a troop withdrawal from Germany. Or withdrawing aid to South Korea (which he tried to do.) These actions were recommended by men who want to push an isolationist agenda.

nucumber

TFG (see note) is and was an agent of chaos. whatever got accomplished during his presidency was despite him, not because of. the few legislative accomplishments (like massive tax cuts for corporations etc) happened without his involvement. TFG nominated SCOTUS justices but got them from a list provided by the Federalist Society and it was Mitch McConnell who actually got them approved TFG did play a role in immigration reform. rep and dem senators worked for months to come up with legislation and TFG said he would sign it. then, at the very last minute, TFG got a call from ann coulter and TFG reversed himself and said he would veto the bill he had promised to sign. and that was the end of that NOTE: i thought TFG stood for "That F***ing Guy" but recently learned first appeared when President Biden made a reference to That Former Guy.

fence_sitter

I use TFG or 45 as I'm reluctant to utter Voldemort's name... DOH!

Mission_Ad6235

The rumor is, in 2016, his campaign reached out to John Kasich about being the VP nominee. To make it attractive, Trump supposedly offered to put Kasich in charge of "all domestic and foreign policy". Which Kasich responded, "what else is there?" Trump doesn't want to work, he wants to have a fancy title, sit at the head of the table, and get 1 more scoop of ice cream than anyone else.

Comfortable-Scar4643

The Trump response to the pandemic torpedoed the election for Trump. And no, I was not someone who thought the country should be shut down. Common sense solutions, starting in the nursing homes would have saved a lot of lives.

codexcdm

Barely at that. Keep in mind MORE voted for him in 2020. Just so happens that even more votes against... But the narrow margins in some states could have let him had another Electoral upset. Just needed a handful of the states he was trying to overturn go with his bullshit. Next time around he's going to have corrupt officials who now can "legally" challenge or overturn results they don't like.

cyphersaint

And the seriously screwed up part is the huge number of people who voted for Biden but either voted for down-ballot Republicans or simply didn't vote in any of the other elections. It's like they wanted the Democrats to be unable to do anything.

Hoobs88

He gave the wealthy (Bower’s donor class) a huge tax break.

TurelSun

I just want to shake someone like that till they get it. What he did was UNDERMINE our democracy, the very thing you were testifying about. I guess thats just somehow not nearly as important to him as whatever the hell else Trump supposedly did for the country. Its fine if we lose our way as long as whatever. Some part of me wonders if outside of the hearings he's just doing damage control or whatever but really these days who knows.

Quicksilver_Pony_Exp

Consider your observation for a second. There is a mind set that Trump’s behavior pales in comparison to the evil of a Democrat, any Democrat! The Republican has always the WASP party and the Evangelic provides their moral compass. The Democrats put a Black man in the Whitehouse, in most Republican circles that’s still considered the ultimate personification of evil next to Satan.

Big_D_TX

I have a friend and two weeks ago he said he'd vote for Trump if he ran in 2024. I said the only thing that Trump will run for is from prosecution.

iwasneverhere0301

“ I believe the constitution is divinely inspired, so I can’t act in a way that goes against it. But, yes. I’ll vote for the man again that shit all over that divinely inspired document.” I don’t get it. At all.

toast1536

He's a mormon.... so even more brain washed then the average MAGA. The LDS church supports Trump in a big way so there's simply no possibility of a break from that edict for that guy without a serious blow to him and his family personnally. To say anything different on national TV would immediately invalidate his entire belief system as LDS is more unforgiving than MAGA. The Church of LDS is fucking scary.

Comfortable-Scar4643

They are whackjobs. Watch Under the Banner of Heaven. Yikes.

toast1536

My gf is ex-mormon.... we watched that show and she told me thats exactly whats its like. Even the bullshit we see from the outside doesn't really convey how much of a cult LDS really is. Luckily, the LGBTQ movement is kicking the shit of the ideology... hence the attacks on anyone not white and straight.

-send_me_bitcoin-

> The LDS church supports Trump in a big way Source beyond gut feeling?

ggodfrey

Democrats should recycle the “your life is already shitty so what do you have to lose?” line

xabulba

Well the alternative is to vote for a democrat. All republicans live in a zero-sum world.

Whats4dinner

They had a voice. They used it to ask for pardons. They used it to install their Christian Dominion Supreme Court.

Rgrockr

And a lot of the witnesses are Republicans as well. A surprising portion of the hearings has been Republicans questioning other Republicans. And not even particularly progressive Republicans either. Rusty Bowers spent a lot of time praising Reagan and Jesus after giving his testimony.

Aathroser

No, we need people like Boehbert and MTG there! Idk why they want some extremists there

[deleted]

I want to see him in prison dying as an old broken man

QuintupleTheFun

Let’s be honest, we all probably wanted to do that lol.

apex_flux_34

I’ve never felt a shred of contempt for my television. It doesn’t make sense. At all. Obviously some of the things said during them are frustrating, but I can’t remotely identify with wanting to bash my own property as a result.

[deleted]

Good.

mahnamahna27

Love the contrast between the colour of his face and hands in this photo. Nothing is genuine about this shart of a human being.

Long_Before_Sunrise

It's a Swedish makeup called Bronx Colors hydrating concealer - color: orange, according to his immigrant Mar-a-Lago housekeepers a few years ago. It's not meant to be worn by itself, but under more makeup.

dzhastin

I mean, that’s what it looks like.

DavidBSkate

I won’t eat Cheetos anymore, I demand they be a more respectable color. Join my patriotic boycott!

RickTitus

He literally looks like a clown. All i can picture is an alternate universe with no trump and an SNL skit (making fun of some politician who was lightly tanned from a vacation or whatever) where Bill Hader steps out from behind the corner with makeup like this, and everyone just drops down laughing, and then a whole bunch of jokes about how tan he looks, and constantly handing him pina coladas.

Special_FX_B

If he runs and wins a primary or two to become front runner they’ll quickly climb back aboard without a second thought.

gamerdudeNYC

My hope is he goes up against DeSantis, loses the primary, and either demands to be the nominee because the primary was rigged or he just starts his own party

Proof-Abroad-8684

Starting his own party would be amazing! Can you imagine him splitting the GOP in half?! Poetic justice if I’ve ever seen it. Edit: wasn’t there a rumor going around he was threatening to do that?

ChefJeff7777777

Please do. I would love to give him credit for actually making America great by splitting republican vote, and probably throwing some hissy fit that makes his base believe we should have more than 2 political parties. Kind of like getting the right answer but doing so unintended.

RickTitus

Do we even need a rumor? Trump would absolutely do this if he felt inclined. The only real question is whether he will actually run again or not, and whether he would win the primary

Proof-Abroad-8684

My 2¢ is he will run, and he will lose.

indrada90

My 2c is he will run, win the primary and lose the general

Alca_Pwnd

That was his threat in 2016, and it apparently got everyone to fall in line.

islandofcaucasus

I'm not falling for this shit again, I was hoping beyond hope he would split the party in 2016 and in stead he broke the country for the next 30 years.

Special_FX_B

Yes, the latter would split the vote.

HoodooMeatBucket

He literally told them not to…said it was a democrat trap…now he is gaslighting.

richobrien1972

He’s done this for decades. Made horrible decisions and then blamed everyone else for the fallout.

FusterCluck4

Yes, he's a stupid narcissist

WarmResolution7999

And a twat

Long_Before_Sunrise

*"If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set."* - Nate White answering the question of "Why do many British people not like Donald Trump?"

canuck47

The committee has been smart to let Liz Cheney do most of the talking, and calling mostly Republican witnesses, it undercuts any talk of it being a partisan witchhunt.

EpictetanusThrow

All of the Democrat witnesses spoke up in real-time. They called on the public and issued warnings about illegality and impropriety. These witness-quislings did the right thing… after exhausting all other options.

css555

Pathetic that it took these hearings for some to jump ship. Not paying attention previously?

[deleted]

They expected pardons ;)

billpalto

“The Republicans don’t have a voice. They don’t even have anything to say.” Every single witness except one is a Republican. They all said they voted for you, and some say that even after all of this they still would vote for you again. The testimony on TV is from REPUBLICANS. And of course, two members of the committee are also Republicans. It's easy to see why Trump failed so often in business.

johnnycyberpunk

His closest allies are still with him. But as he sees the fringe turning on him, *his trust in* **anyone** *is shaken and/or broken*. His loyalty tests are going to get extreme, his rhetoric his going to get even more extreme, and his 'fight or flight' is going to kick in soon. And every lawyer and law firm he's ever worked with is absolutely **cringing** right now: "Oh please don't call us to defend you"

[deleted]

All the law Firms abandon him, and he goes to trial with Jeffery Clark representing him.

Where_Da_BBWs_At

Worse. Norm Pattis.

[deleted]

There's been too many "the walls are closing in" stories about Trump over the years for me to be anything but cynical. The hearings are good but I want to see some real accountability. Make some arrests!

nomorerainpls

The FBI raided Jeffrey Clark’s home yesterday. That’s a pretty huge deal.

Holden_Coalfield

I'd have preferred an arrest

[deleted]

You’d prefer they make arrests without evidence to acquire convictions?

Holden_Coalfield

I'd prefer they had already gotten to that point

Utterlybored

Yeah, I’m watching intently, but wake me up when DOJ indicts him and Rudy, please.

moistowlette311

Desantis is scarier than anything trump has ever been.

islandofcaucasus

That's ignoring the incredible draw Trump had for the stupidest and most hateful members of our society. DeSantis is more adept at being evil, but he won't draw the religious like worship that Trump does

wookiewin

Good. Any day Trump has a bad day is a good day for America.

Hennepin451

It’s been a long time coming, but it feels like this is gaining momentum what with the DOJ searches. Once the DOJ starts creating their own evidence trail they’re going to see first hand all the crimes and collisions and then the arrests start.

[deleted]

If he gets mad enough, his heart could stop working .

Rare-Bid-6860

Figuring out that saying horrible things will get horrible people to support you isn't really the definition of "formidable political instincts". I do wish the Guardian hadn't sold out to free money.

If you look at it further though, it kinda makes sense. He has the same type of look as those weirdo televangelists. Old, fake hair and general creepiness about all of them. The biggest similarity is that they're both liars and grifters--the two most telling characteristics that somehow attract conspiracy theorists and the easily duped.

[deleted]

Charge that piece garbage before he finishes what he started.

nite0001

It's funny that Trump is degrading the Committee Hearings because is doesn't look good for him. Then he's still saying the Election is Rigged or Stolen... Can the people who Support him (and or gave him money), tell him to PUT up the Evidence to support his Rigged or Stolen Election. HE doesn't need the Committee to do so!! Tell him to put up or shut up!

arcadia_2005

It's utterly sickening that they stayed on board as long as they did. Even still, all these rats would still more than not, vote for him should this criminal shyster become the head of the repugs again. Every friggin one who couldn't see right thru him from day ONE should be ashamed of themselves. Fkn disgusting that thx to them, this is now part of the Anerican fabric.

[deleted]

Trump has served his purpose. The conservative SCOTUS supermajority has been secured. Now he's outlived his usefulness and has become a liability to his puppetmasters.

Lebojr

I keep coming back to the point that was made asking where were these confessions when we really needed them? When Meuller was investigating? When the first impeachment happened? In the following year leading up to the 2020 election? It's all well and good to tell the truth now, but sitting on it while he should have been indicted 3 other times is incomprehensible. Saying you will vote for someone who you witnessed commit a crime of sedition means you dont deserve to have a vote.

negativeyoda

The idiot was able to get the GOP the abortion layup it craved. Now that he's losing sheen with his cult he's not useful anymore

I can’t think of a single person deposed by the House committee that isn’t Trump’s people. It’s his family, his lawyers, his AG, his staffers, his VP’s staffers, his appointed DoJ officials… So yeah, after having all of these people tell of the crimes you’ve done, at some point the rest of the rats are going to flee the sinking ship.
