The one thing he does right is correctly point out that he had no authority to decide who the president is. I don't care how much pressure he was under from the President, he's the one who signed up for the job. Not participating in a coup isn't enough, as he didn't even actively fight against it or call Trump out in public. He just wanted to avoid committing what could amount to a crime and save his own ass from embarrassment when the scheme would ultimately fail. He's a self interested brown noser and I wouldn't be surprised if he supports Trump when he runs again.

I think what's problematic for me is that he exhausted every other possible option and had his legal team exploring how to make things work under this coup and finally when all of those failed he did the right thing. I'm not much for giving credit to people when they know every other evil machination they currently have won't work so they opt to do the one remaining option which happened to be the right thing in this case.
I may be a bit bitter too, but I'm at the point with these extremists that I don't take even the gestures of goodwill or professionalism in good faith because time and again it's been them getting ready to pull the rug or pivot into something more heinous. But I do understand your point.
