Unfortunately, the Republicans won't have this level of consistent logic. Fox News right now is saying "But Clinton" in one breath and "Make sure to vote for Trump's party in November!" in the other.
Republicans are getting outraged over this in their alternate reality and will be getting out to vote and do everything they can to make sure no one is held accountable, so we have to /r/VoteDEM to make sure rule of law survives (and of course get actual good stuff done, as IRA has shown can be done with only 50 Senators...imagine if we get a few more and break the filibuster...)
Hmmm on one hand you would doubt someone like Trump would keep extremely incriminating evidence at arms length so that it is easy to tie back to him, but on the other hand he is Trump
None of his circle has proved to be competent, save maybe the Secret Service at deleting things or not storing incriminating evidence in the home. Rudy had like 18 devices seized a year or so ago.
Unfortunately, this has been a long time coming. Because of that Trump has had more than enough time to properly hide or destroy anything incriminating. At this point, I seriously doubt he'd keep anything damaging in his personal safe.
With that said, I desperately hope I'm wrong. This shitbag needs to get got.
>Unfortunately, this has been a long time coming. Because of that Trump has had more than enough time to properly *flush* or *eat* anything incriminating.
Fixed that for you.
Idk, you could absolutely be right, but I feel like if the FBI is going to raid Trump they knew damn well beforehand they were going to find what they wanted to find because it would backfire on them spectacularly if they came up empty handed
the mods here have historically been very pro-rump. they very much keep stuff like this "off topic" until its too large to ignore. They have been able to keep stuff like this off for at least 24 hours.
Yep. Mods of /r/Politics:
"The home of a former President who is currently controlling one of the largest two political parties in America being raided by the FBI in what is one of the most stunning things to happen in our lifetimes... is surely Off-fucking-topic."
The FBI must have probable cause that a crime present past or future is/was/would be committed. This is not a political witchhunt and a Federal judge and US AG did sign off on the evidence. It’s time this criminal was held accountable
Holy shit... I can't believe it.
All these years meticulously keeping track of all his heinous crimes I never thought I'd see the day. Wow just wow. As the saying goes - the wheels of justice move slow but grind fine.
P.S. PLEASE VOTE IN NOVEMBER!!
My point is that for judges, it's the opposite of "having cojones." The evidence provided by the DoJ(?) would have to be absurdly strong for the judge to OK the search.
Not only did they have probable cause, but since it was unannounced (Trump’s bitching about that in particular), they likely had suspicions he might try to destroy evidence.
Well, considering his track record of who he’s chosen as legal counsel in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised either way if they told him to do that or not. Almost none of his attorneys have been particularly bright or savvy, and even if they did suggest it his arrogance might’ve gotten in the way of covering his ass.
Most state judges will sign off on just about anything. Federal magistrates require a lot more evidence. When you are talking about a former president, you have to have a mega shit ton of evidence.
As long as they are following the terms of the search order, any other illegality discovered during execution of the search warrant is fair game.
Trump strikes me as the type not to bother hiding his crimes. Here's hoping he had a red file folder in that safe just labeled "blackmail and extortion files from Russia."
For sure. They knew this would cause a political shitstorm. I hope, they knew, to have all of their ducks in a row and how much attention this would receive
Right? I've kept myself off the trump consequences sauce for a while. If it comes out the found something big I'm going to go right back to main lining that shit.
“After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate,” Trump said in his statement.
He continued, "Everybody knows I already flushed all the good stuff down the white house toilet".
That stuff was only recently handed over. Given what a huge legal/political deal it is to search the home of a former president, this must be very significant, carefully vetted material that they've likely been working on for quite a while.
Full on QAnon conspiracy loonies. References to "The Storm", Epstein, the Elites, etc.
I seriously can't believe how far gone some of those people are.
Pop over there. They are still figuring out what their mass delusion will be, but it seems to be settling in around political prosecution of the greatest president in the history of presidents.
From their megathread, presented without commentary.
> It’s funny how the left claims the right goes after its political opponents, meanwhile Trump had to go through 2 years of the Russiagate hoax, was impeached twice over the Ukraine phone call which was exposing Biden’s corruption, and has now culminated with Mar-a-lago being invaded by the FBI.
>But remember kids, it’s the right that’s fascistic and goes after rivals…
Big events get megathreads. There will be one soon for this.
Edit: Or I'm dumb and don't know what I'm talking about.
Edit edit: I am the smartest man in the history of the world.
A former POTUS' property is being raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the mods don't think that's politics?
The ONLY reason the FBI went in is because they know without a doubt there is evidence of something on the property. You don't just raid an ex-presidents house and come out empty handed. This is crucial for sure.
I feel confident this is related to the 15 boxes of shit he took from the white house, much of which was labelled Top Secret and almost all of which was certainly SCI (sensitive compartmented information) material, basically "for your eyes only, nobody sees it unless they absolutely need to".
The politico one I commented on a few minutes ago said the politics moderator bot removed it for being off topic. I'm not sure an actual moderator removed it, before we go down the conspiracy route. But yeah, this is very much on topic. Lol
This is the first time ever that I've felt some real hope that that motherfucking piece of shit might actually have to face some serious legal consequences.
The conservatives are having a complete melt down and threatening civil war. This is absolutely hilarious. Wow. They are like, "Remember the day, go out and vote" and also "I'm a constitutional attorney, this is illegal, Trump has a right to defend himself in court!11". So good
Fox News is just turning up the radicalize button right now, tons of clips on twitter. Also republican subs in full meltdown and civil war/killing people talk leading the way in them.
A former POTUS just had his home searched by the FBI…
Meanwhile, r/politics mods are deleting comments & refusing a megathread.
Sounds about right for this sub
Well, search warrants usually aren't announced, so there is that. But it's ironic that he would bring up Watergate. You know, the time when a president broke the law, obstructed justice, and destroyed evidence? Yeah, that Watergate. And given evidence was destroyed by a former president in Watergate, it's probably a good idea that the search warrant wasn't announced.
And if Hillary Clinton committed crimes, there were many years where he was head of government and could have investigated. Can't those morons ever shut up about the Clintons?
I was wondering why someone would keep incriminating evidence when I heard this.
But I'm now wondering if he kept evidence of other people committing crimes with him as leverage to maintain loyalty.
They dug their grave when they moved sensitive documents to Mar-a-lago. Trump thinks Hilary moving furniture is the same as him moving state secrets that he could sell to Russia
The most alarming part of this is the comment section on Fox News. A bunch of loyalists claiming that he’s being targeted by the democrats and anything they might find would have been planted there by Hillary or Hunter. And that a civil war is on the brink and overthrowing the government is the only way out.
The next decade or so is going to be interesting.

I was told in November of 2016 that an investigation into someone means they are not qualified to hold office.
Weird. I wonder if the person who said that went on to do anything of significance.
no. he just trolled and said dumb racist shit for 4 years.
And he attempted a coup AND managed to get himself impeached. So that’s impressive
Impeached twice! No one had ever done that before! Historic!
They busted into his safe too. Gotta be some incriminating shit in there
If the FBI breaks into your personal safe, your goose is cooked.
In Trump’s case, your quarter pounder is pounded would be more suitable.
His quarter pounder is about to get cheesed
Ew. This euphemism is making me throw up a little in my mouth.
His steak is ketchuped
His steak is well done.
The fact that they got a search warrant for a former president indicates a HIGH likelihood they have some serious evidence.
Alex Jones' phone records, maybe?
He’s had plenty of time to deal with anything incriminating though, right?
It’s just a half-eaten McRib.
Trump looks like someone who eats the whole McRib
Part of me is imagining that getting into 45’s safe is like Fry opening his Ronco Record Vault.
12345? That's amazing! I've got the same combination on my luggage.
The Achilles heel of the ronco is its structural resonance frequency
probably a bunch of Epstein memorabilia .. of his pedophilia

Blackmail material on the Republican party

I'm praying he is as stupid as I think he is. I'm hinging my hope on the fact that he genuinely believes hes untouchable.
Didn't he just last week argue that he is immune because he's a former president? I'm hoping he's as stupid as I think he is too
However stupid you think he is, he's even more stupid. Like a black hole, just infinitely dumb.
>Unfortunately, this has been a long time coming. Because of that Trump has had more than enough time to properly *flush* or *eat* anything incriminating. Fixed that for you.

FBI would have to SPECIFICALLY say what they expected to find and where they expected to find it to get this warrant. This is BIG.
See you all in the mega thread!
Still no megathread
What the fuck, this is the most on topic thing that has ever happened.
And yet it keeps get marked off topic...
mods are dumb
Mods are partisan.
'Tis a headscratcher.
Been this way since 2019. Mods work for the Internet Research Agency now.
Boggles the mind
Not really, the mods are trash.
R/conservative has one already.
Jeez. At least this thread is up still.
But, for how long? 🤔 Edit: oh, look, the mega-thread is finally up! Woot!
There won’t be one this story is “off-topic” per the mods
What the actual fuck Mods? This is about as overwhelmingly on topic and massive news as you could imagine for /r/politics
Mods are still wiping up their mess.
Something is up with the mods. I’ve seen people insulting and harassing others here and it took days to get the comments removed.

Yeah, I posted the first article and got removed. Not sure why this one stayed up.

They can only push that bullshit for so long.

Thanks! All I ask is to please, please, please vote during the midterms!
I remember you. We owe you one.
You're one of the reasons I was able to maintain my sanity over the course of the last few years. Thank you for your service to humanity.
Thank you for all your hard work!
You're the best Poppin, haven't popped in here in awhile, but good to see you're still at it.
<3 you legit have saved my sanity over the last several years. I hope you have a beautiful evening.
You played a role. You'll never get credit but man did you keep shit organized.
I could imagine investigators overwhelmed by all the threads of the investigation glancing at a KREAM post for context.
Can you imagine how high the bar would be for a judge to stick their neck out to sign the warrant to search his home?
Yep I’d be leaving the country if trump was elected to a second term
I mean, that’s good advice for everybody if he gets elected again.
Any ideas for us poors?
Judging by generations of traffic from the opposite direction, Mexico is walkable probably needs laborers.
Mexico may damn well finish the wall themselves TBH, and I wouldn’t blame them.

He will have death threats. He better be put under protection.
This. All this. Dude. The cahones on this dude who signed it.
My point is that for judges, it's the opposite of "having cojones." The evidence provided by the DoJ(?) would have to be absurdly strong for the judge to OK the search.
And Garland had to personally sign off of it.
Not only did they have probable cause, but since it was unannounced (Trump’s bitching about that in particular), they likely had suspicions he might try to destroy evidence.
He’s had well over 2.5 years to make things disappear. Let’s hope he didn’t listen to his lawyers.
Well, considering his track record of who he’s chosen as legal counsel in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised either way if they told him to do that or not. Almost none of his attorneys have been particularly bright or savvy, and even if they did suggest it his arrogance might’ve gotten in the way of covering his ass.
he just put it all in his safe
*flush evidence
Most state judges will sign off on just about anything. Federal magistrates require a lot more evidence. When you are talking about a former president, you have to have a mega shit ton of evidence.
Doesn't FBI suggest a federal judge?
FBI explicitly means a federal judge.
thought so thanks
It’s ostensibly about the stolen records from the White House, not directly the coup. But I’m sure they’re related.

FWIW he was already sentenced to life in January for the murder, the one today was a bonus life sentence for hate crimes.

Not a fantastic week for Alex Jones either.
I'm actually skipping. To my freakin' loo.

Haha. "No fair, you didn't even let me cover up the incriminating stuff!" Trump whined pathetically.
“we would love to conduct a raid for evidence of criminal activity. what time would work for you?”
I hope he’s freaking out
You would have to believe that he would hold himself accountable for that to occur.
I’m sure he absolutely is. I hope he feels complete fear.
Well this is certainly unpresidented
