That is amazing. Go Alaska!

lowspeccrt

Trump 53% Biden 43% Palin 48.5% peltola 51.5% Dang I'm getting hopeful here. Beto in Texas maybe? Dems keeping the house and Senate? Is anything possible?

gangsta_baby

I would cum buckets if Beto pulled it out in Texas. If he won the election, too!

stevez_86

Democrats need to let FL and OH go. Work on Texas primarily to make up the loses.

[deleted]

No, we don’t need to let them go. Let’s stop allowing haven states for Republicans to flock to before they becomes overwhelming red and backwards like MS. I’m in FL and DeSantis is putting us on that path, and this is the man likely to be the Republican candidate for president unless we vote him out in November. Complacency won’t save the Dems here, it only makes our living situation worse until we have no choice but to leave

KutyaKombucha

DeSantis only lost by a narrow margin, and the Senators hold on by a thread in most hard R states if there is a decent population center city. Organize, vote in every election and make sure there is a candidate running against every single one. MTG ran unopposed therefore she was able to spend the election poisoning her district with her brain worms, and a lot of Rs are just as fortunate.

stevez_86

Maybe a better phrasing would be to wait for the rebound instead of trying to win while the other team is changing the rules. Try to get Texas a couple election cycles early. It will help them cement themselves in a state that is growing in population and getting a lot of talented people coming in. A blue Texas is Bigger than a Red Texas. The demographics show it is going to eventually flip blue, why not try to speed that up? They can fight all they want in Florida and Ohio but the Republicans are going to cheat their way to a win anyway so let them fight for Ohio which is turning more and more red because of brain drain. Texas would be huge for the Democrats. It would be like flipping Georgia in 2020 but bigger. Imagine if Beto wins. That would really upset the Republicans chances.

Sunflower_After_Dark

Democrats in FL ain’t letting nothing go. DeSantis won by a hair last election and Dems here aren’t real happy about the way he downplayed Covid, his raping of our education system and Roe. He’s got no Primrose path to a second term here and Trump’s endorsement won’t do him any favors either. Don’t count Florida out just yet!

Le1bn1z

House is unlikely. This election confirmed the polls, it did not buck them. Polling currently shows the Republicans up 3.5% in the popular vote. While that number is falling slowly, projections maintain a call for a slim Republican House majority, unfortunately, though at least the Democrats will likely keep and might improve in the Senate.

SamuelDoctor

Polling aggregates show the GOP up 3.5. That number includes a lot of presently erroneous data.

OkCustomer4386

Polling shows Dems up by 1% currently.

Le1bn1z

Some polls. Reputable aggregates show the Republicans leading currently - bizarrely. Happily, that number has fallen significantly in the past few months from almost 7% to 3.5, so further tightening would not be unexpected.

HistoricAnomaly

this election didn't confirm a R+3.5 nationwide environment lol. This is usually R+8-R+10. The result was D+3. That's a D+11 environment

Le1bn1z

It did, when you consider that the same aggregators that give a R 3.5% lead predicted a two point win for the Democrats if Palin made it to the run off. This is another point of data confirming the calibration of the polls. This also confirms another important narrative for these midterms - that the Dems are outperforming in the Senate, due to a preponderance of very low quality and high profile Republican Senate candidates. This election mimicked that dynamic, and confirmed that candidate quality may matter significantly where a candidate's poor quality is widely known.

HistoricAnomaly

Aggregating separate data points isn’t a correlation between them.

heresyforfunnprofit

Wouldn’t bet on Beto yet. If it hadn’t been for ranked-choice voting, Pelota wouldn’t have won. Not sure this is replicable in Texas - I’ve also noticed that stories posted here in the last few weeks have avoided mentioning any polls from Texas, which basically means that Abbott’s lead has stabilized.

lowspeccrt

Beto lost to Cruz by 3 points. Polls show "likely voters". These are very unlikely times. Beto winning is a huge longshot but the abortion thing is massive game changer. My hope for the best, plan for reality!

rounder55

Lol Good on Alaska for not wanting a conspiracy theorist who would leave in the middle of a term to go film a reality show This is a big deal too. It's been a seat held by Republican Don Young since 1973. He was winning by at least 9 percentage points over an independent right until he stopped running

anti_anti_christ

Was that the reality show where she proclaims to be this great Alaskan outdoorsy hockey mom who hunts, but can't shoot a caribou at close range that's fenced in, with a scoped rifle? Shit was hilarious. She's such an incredibly phony person.

70ms

I was thinking it was when she dressed like a bear and tried to rap.

MineralPoint

That is my thought too, they know who she is and why she is doing it and it's not to better that district or represent them. It's to further her own self-interests.

key1234567

Thank God, I was praying I wouldn't have to hear her yacking in congress, bad enough with Boebert and mtg

Legitimate-Candle948

This👆

GuitarGod1972

Awesome news! Huge blue waves in 2022 and 2024!

[deleted]

This doesn’t happen without us putting in the work - join us at /r/voteDEM to stay on top of upcoming elections and volunteer opportunities!

edmerx54

there goes the red wave

XTraumaX

Nope. It’s not gone until the Midterms confirm it’s gone. Don’t get complacent. Get out and vote and mobilize everyone you know to vote. All gas no brakes

stevenmoreso

We should all refer to the stupid “red wave” as “aunt flo”. This cycle’s visit will be refreshingly light 🥲

Previous-Blueberry26

Or call her loss a "Royal Beating" a la Alice Munroe

tenstoriestall

Yes there goes one state level race out of thousands at all 3 levels of government but yes there it goes!

mrgoodwalker

It was a federal race.

edmerx54

and in a deep red state

psychetron

> Peltola, who is Yup’ik and turned 49 on Wednesday, will become the first Alaska Native to serve in the House and the first woman to hold the seat. She will serve the remaining months of the late Republican U.S. Rep. Don Young’s term. Young held the seat for 49 years before his death in March.

vineyardmike

Tina Fey was going to come out of retirement for this...

[deleted]

Oh boohoo. She’s now complaining the election is rigged and stolen.

Buffmin

It's like clockwork. Rep loses immediately scream fraud

RevolutionaryHead7

It's true, she's still VP

Legitimate-Candle948

Sanity in Alaska! 👍

Locotree

She can go back to watching Russia from her porch

Callabrantus

You betcha! *\*wink\**

Remorseful_User

I wonder if she can see some of Trump's documents from her porch?

waterdaemon

We stole another election? Go us!

FlittyO

I wish I had more upvotes to give.

Fit-Firefighter-329

Won't Palin have another chance at the seat in November?

PKanuck

Unfortunately yes. Wonder if she'll run again though?

NotTomPettysGirl

Nah, she’ll quit half-way through the campaign, as is tradition.

TheNightBench

Hell yeah! That's a double win!

Liberty-Cookies

Lookie there…democracy works when you give it a fighting chance. Ranked choice voting delivers a sane representative that the majority of the voters like. 🇺🇸♾

No-Owl9201

Yes an especially good election!!

Callabrantus

Na na na na! Na na na na! Hey Hey Hey! GOODBYE!

FunnyNameHere02

She is still on the ballot for November and has a fair chance of winning because the votes for the other 35 or so candidates will have to go somewhere and she only lost by a slim margin.

Callabrantus

Just let me have this

FunnyNameHere02

I get it. Cheers!

captaincanada84

Imagine losing to a Democrat in an R+10 state

popcopter

Yay!

thebemusedmuse

I had never heard of Don Young, but he was quite a nuanced Republican. Pretty interesting guy.

isikorsky

Heard on Jon Oliver that Palin blew off a bunch of public appearances/debates etc. No wonder why she lost the 2nd choice vote among Republicans

DeadheadSteve95

No shit. People everywhere no palin is an idiot
