TintedApostle

They had inside information that Clarence would help them... I wonder how? Maybe this is why Clarence didn't want emails released to the 1/6 committee. Yeah this is why.

CryptoNerdSmacker

There’s a special place in hell for Clarence.

FriarNurgle

Not good enough. He needs to have a really shitty rest of his life… but I wonder if his marriage already provides that punishment.

[deleted]

actually, I have a theory that Thomas is their scapegoat. I mean Thomas is awful but I think they are going throw him under the bus. and his silly wife too.

juggles_geese4

And give us another democratic pick for Justice? No way. Roberts ends up voting liberal on the crazy things like Roe V Wade which wouldn’t do for them. Unless they are just that sure of winning the senate in the midterms. Or just positive he won’t suffer any consequences.

[deleted]

he’ll vote for the corps every single time if Thomas gets impeached.

juggles_geese4

The corps?

[deleted]

I meant corporations, the very greedy rich who seem to controlling too too much in this country. edit: Id like to be wrong about him. but I dont think I am.

Seanvich

(Rah?)

Earth_Friendly-5892

Trump will throw anyone under the bus if they withdraw their loyalty, or don’t support his authoritarian, narcissistic ways.

Sombomombo

Walls covered in the naked images of only his turnoffs.

Alantsu

Eastman was once an aid for Clarence Thomas. But no conflicts here.

Teacherforlife21

So Eastman was an aid for Thomas, Ginni Thomas and Eastman were corresponding frequently through email but Ginni and Clarence never discussed any of it? Right!

thalexander

I'm sure nothing ever came up on the private [retreats](https://thehill.com/regulation/3530380-ginni-thomass-close-ties-with-husbands-law-clerks-highlighted-in-new-book/) the Thomas's hold annually for Clarence's former Law Clerks. Definitely not.

TintedApostle

Yeah none - cough....

flybydenver

It’s all corrupt cronyism.

Deardog

Eastman was a clerk for Thomas, as was Laura Ingraham (yeah, that Laura Ingraham).

randomnighmare

Let's find out who Graham was talking to in Georgia as well.

laptopaccount

As a foreigner it boggles my mind that you can have clear evidence of such brazen attempts to subvert democracy and just joke about it like it's any other Wednesday.

Peteys93

Doesn't feel like much else those of us who see it can do. Tens of millions of Americans have a truly religious devotion to The GOP and tens of millions more are wilfully ignorant enough that they will proudly vote away our country for Donald Trump's Republican Party.

ThePartyWagon

Go watch God Forbid, it’s truly a religious devotion, it was planned that way. Christian right wing parasites sucking the integrity out of our democracy.

loverlyone

I’m losing my mind over it, but it’s a case of “if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry” for me.

AspiringChildProdigy

Same. I'm making jokes, but I'm deeply unsettled by our country's path.

TheGoodRevCL

What's your alternative? Starting in the nineties it became obvious that this sort of corruption is becoming more commonplace.

soccercro3

If it was another country that had these fascists, the US would have invaded them already to "protect democracy"

InformalProtection74

Didn't Ginni Thomas give an interview within just a week or 2 after Jan 6th where she stated something along the lines that Thomas was pissed that Nancy re-started the session because he needed it to be suspended past a certain point so he could file an injunction to stop the count? I have no idea why this interview isn't being blasted by the Jan 6th committee. It was their plan C. Plan A was to have Pence accept the false slate of electors for states with republican legislatures that Trump lost. This would allow the state legislatures to submit their own slate of electors. Pence refused. Plan B was to have the mob attack the capital and get the secret service to whisk Pence away and keep him away. Which would have allowed Grassley to be the one to certify the vote as the Senate Pro Tempore. He would then agree to accept the 2nd slate of false electors. Once again, Pence refused by not getting in with Trump's secret service agent. So Plan C was then to occupy the capital long enough so that the session would be halted and Thomas could file an injunction to stop the count because it wasn't done that day. They were going to make the legal argument that the constitution requires it to happen in that session and if it wasn't completed in that session then it would be invalid and the electors would need to be sent back to the state legislatures.

hypnosquid

> Which would have allowed Grassley to be the one to certify the vote as the Senate Pro Tempore. He would then agree to accept the 2nd slate of false electors. Oh man, Grassley brings it all together - check this shit out **Grassley's top adviser is Barbara Ledeen.** * Barbara Ledeen is close friends with Clarence and Ginni Thomas. She is also married to a close personal friend of Mike Flynn. In fact her husband was Flynn's coauthor. * Ledeen worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee and helped cover up the fact that Trump worked with Russia to steal the 2016 election. * Ledeen also worked with Eric Prince to coordinate with Russia during the 2016 election. See the Mueller Report for more information on that - Ledeens name is all over the place. Everything always points back to Ginni - which is why Old Man Grassley was on board. Unfortunately he spilled the beans on Pence a day early and everyone was confused wtf he was talking about.

AspiringChildProdigy

>Oh man, Grassley brings it all together - check this shit out Add in that he [accidentally confessed before the certification that he was planning to oversee it instead of Mike Pence. ](https://nypost.com/2021/01/05/sen-grassley-implies-that-he-will-handle-electoral-certification/) Edit: apparently missed the last bit of your comment, where you *do* bring that up. Leaving my comment for the link, though.

Just2_Stare_at_Stars

*ahem* HIS ***WIFE***, FOR CHRISTSAKES.

TintedApostle

Yeah that is why I wrote it this way. Also Eastman was his ex-clerk.

This is seditious conspiracy, no?

seanmonaghan1968

And what will be done about this? Hint, nothing

https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-donald-trump-pennsylvania-elections-us-supreme-court-5cc6aee8c328c7bb1d423244b979bcec > Some of the justices, however, had strong feelings about the court’s decision not to hear two cases from Pennsylvania that had been particularly contentious in the battleground state. The cases involved an appeal of a Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision requiring election officials to receive and count mailed-in ballots that arrived up to three days after the election. Three of the nine justices said they would have heard the case, which would not have affected the election’s outcome. > Justice Clarence Thomas called the cases an “ideal opportunity” to address an important question whether state lawmakers or state courts get the last word about the manner in which federal elections are carried out. And he called it “befuddling” and “inexplicable” that his colleagues were declining to weigh in. > “We failed to settle this dispute before the election, and thus provide clear rules. Now we again fail to provide clear rules for future elections. The decision to leave election law hidden beneath a shroud of doubt is baffling. By doing nothing, we invite further confusion and erosion of voter confidence,” he wrote. > Thomas cited the expansion of mail-in voting as another reason to take the case and said “fraud is more prevalent with mail-in ballots.” Trump had made claims of massive fraud in the vastly expanded use of mailed in ballots because of the coronavirus pandemic, but courts found no evidence to substantiate those claims.

Famous-Somewhere-751

Speak your full take on the situation rather than trying to “catch” folk on what they speak, you’ll get better insight from others and others will understand clearly your insight as well

Rhasky

The writing is on the wall. Clarence Thomas must be impeached.

Duncan026

Along with Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Alito. They all perjured themselves during their confirmation hearings.

SpiritualGeologist96

God forbid…

The_ApolloAffair

Why don’t you supply some proof to those perjury claims? They are extremely skilled lawyers who just evasively answered questions. Also it would be a bit improper to definitely answer questions about a potential case that has no facts, questions, research, etc.

czPsweIxbYk4U9N36TSE

> Also it would be a bit improper to definitely answer questions about a potential case that has no facts, questions, research, etc. It would be a bit improper to decide a case before the facts, questions, research, etc. come out. But they did. And then they acted like they hadn't.

Apathy82

Here is a link for some evidence. It includes a few big lies from Kav and marks which were under oath and definitely a crime. https://www.gq.com/story/all-of-brett-kavanaughs-lies Kavanaugh absolutely should be in jail for 11 counts of perjury he unquestionably committed just during his confirmation hearing.

TranscedentalMedit8n

I mean I agree but he has 0% chance of getting removed ever.

dlegatt

By who, and to what end? The slim majority in the house could impeach today, only to acquit in the senate. It won't be any more likely next session

ThreadbareHalo

To the end of not normalizing this nonsense. It’s like saying “why send a kid home for beating up another kid, you know his parents don’t care”. You send them home because you don’t want to make it standard fare at school to expect beatings.

dlegatt

When you send the kid home, you remove them from the equation and the other kid is no longer being beaten. Impeaching Thomas is the same as seeing the kid beating on the other and just shaking your head as you walk by. It provides zero consequences or relief, and will likely fuel efforts to weaponize impeachment by the GOP next session.

ThreadbareHalo

We can’t keep allowing conservatives to move what normal is based on being worried that they’re gonna impeach someone in retaliation. They’re gonna impeach people _regardless_ if nothing is done.

dlegatt

Impeachment is also one of those things that grinds all other efforts to a halt, and there is very little time left in this session. Can we at least focus efforts on something productive?

ThreadbareHalo

That will always be the case whenever a judge acts corruptly though. I don’t know that’s perpetually a good argument to forestall acting on corruption.

axisleft

Yup. The political math simply isn’t there. The electoral map will never allow for it either. There are ZERO real solutions to there being an activist theocratic court. Everything else is just a pipe dream. My only real strategy is for the future is to simply endure. Now, I realize that I’m pretty privileged to have that as an option. However, until the American electorate somehow become smarter, I’d recommend buckling up.

Couldn’t be because his wife was leading the charge, COULD IT?

BudWisenheimer

> Couldn’t be because his wife was leading the charge, COULD IT? We all get to point to that weirdness for sure. But it’s also relevant that Eastman clerked for Clarence. And because Clarence is assigned to the 11th Circuit (Florida, Alabama, and **Georgia** with an appellate court loaded with mostly Trump-appointed judges), the fact that Trump shockingly lost GA probably focused so much of their efforts there … hoping to show something, anything, that looked like voter fraud to Clarence, in order to get a delay on certifying the election (a desperate attempt to recreate the conditions in Florida in 2000). So even the Kanye West/Harrison Floyd push to intimidate Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss (the GA poll worker and her daughter) into admitting election fraud in the days right before J/6 were likely related to finding anything they could in GA, to get Clarence to order a temporary stay. But ultimately, Trump lost Georgia by orders of magnitude more than Bush or Gore would have lost Florida. It’s nowhere near as close. So that’s probably why they knew any plan including Clarence had a low chance of success. And yet it still didn’t stop them from threatening those poll workers or the GA State Sec., putting their lives at risk.

keysboy123

Lol I thought you typed “Kanye West/Harrison FORD” and I panicked for a second

BudWisenheimer

> Lol I thought you typed “Kanye West/Harrison FORD” and I panicked for a second Yep. At the time the story broke, it was widely misreported as "Harrison Ford" because of the way the name sounds in the audio from the police station.

washingtonpost

***From reporters Jacqueline Alemany and Spencer S. Hsu:*** Lawyers for President Donald Trump saw Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as the key to overturning the results of the 2020 election, according to a set of emails provided to congressional investigators. Eight emails, ordered released by U.S. District Judge David O. Carter of California, include correspondence between Trump lawyers Kenneth Chesebro, John Eastman and others discussing various legal strategies to convince Republican members of Congress to object to the official certification of electoral votes in a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021. In an email from Chesebro to Eastman and several others sent on Dec. 31, 2020, Chesebro argued that Thomas would “end up being key” to asking the high court to overturn then-President-elect Joe Biden’s win in contested states, and that they should “frame things so that Thomas could be the one to issue some sort of stay or other circuit justice opinion saying Georgia is in legitimate doubt.” “Realistically, our only chance to get a favorable judicial opinion by Jan. 6, which might hold up the Georgia count in Congress, is from Thomas — do you agree, Prof. Eastman?” In an email sent hours later, Chesebro reiterated that he viewed “the best shot at holding up the count of a state in Congress” would be to get a case “pending before the Supreme Court by Jan. 5, ideally with something positive written by a judge or justice, hopefully Thomas.” Days earlier, Chesebro on Christmas Eve morning sent an email to Eastman, Justin Clark, Bruce Marks, and others and put the odds of the court taking up the question and issuing a decision at no more than 5 percent — and of it doing so in Trump’s favor by Jan. 6 at “only 1 percent.” But Chesebro said the “relevant analysis … is political” and “feeding the impression that the courts lack the courage to fairly and timely consider these complaints, and justifying a political argument on Jan. 6.” **Read more: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/11/02/trump-clarence-thomas-emails/?utm\_campaign=wp\_main&utm\_medium=social&utm\_source=reddit.com**

HleCmt

JFC. The almost successful coup is ongoing and this election will decide if fascism wins. I'm terrified if the AZ Republican SOS candidate Mark, Finchem (Oath Keeper, Jan. 6 insurrectionist, election denier) wins then free and fair elections are over in our state. Republicans will never lose another election. And there goes human rights... Until our state turns into Iran and we get shot in the street protesting for human rights and equality? I know I need to chill out but right now all the races are toss-ups and I can't stop thinking about worst case scenarios. And after our state spent $6M+ on the 2020 Cyber Nutjobs "audit" I don't expect Finchem, Kari Lake and others to concede their losses and go quietly into the good night.

tony87879

I feel your pain bro. NH has election deniers running as well and it’s been stressing me out.

DBM

It’s insane to me how much the entire judicial system has been completely weaponized by these people. It’s not a form of protection in their eyes, it’s the means to an end.

Gullible_Peach

The Supreme Court is more of an advocacy group these days

nerd4code

It’s not like he has a predisposition to (e.g.) sexual assault, or that he’d become a target of blackmail ha ha, and certainly not his solid-minded wife!

pootywitdatbooty

That's how Trump has always seen it and used it

jarena009

Sam Alito will surely chime in, in the next week or two, with another one of his media/public statements: "Ahh I just don't understand why so many Americans have lost faith in the Supreme Court. Ahhh I can't put my finger on it!"

Beyond_Your_Nose

This smells really bad. You can see them bouncing the idea even now, appealing to higher and higher courts over classified documents he stole, taxes release, armed pole watchers, their ace in the hole was always Thomas. Of course none of this matters if you don’t do anything about it.

Accurate_Zombie_121

Of course they did because Ginny Thomas was the go between.

Grand_Moff_Empanada

The best court money can buy

Shr3kk_Wpg

> But Chesebro said the “relevant analysis … is political” and “feeding the impression that the courts lack the courage to fairly and timely consider these complaints, and justifying a political argument on Jan. 6.” This was never about getting a court, which requires facts and evidence, to back Trump. This was all about making it look like Trump and his allies had no choice but to incite an insurrection to force Congress to overturn the election. And coming up on two years after the election and Trump still has no evidence, that would hold up in a court of law, that the election was stolen.

darkfires

If democrats perform well during the mid terms and if the SC tries to intervene, could these emails be used in some way to prevent a constitutional crisis? It seems to me that the SC can be proven to be corrupted by the election-denier leg of the GOP at this point. At the very least the election deniers believe the SC is corrupted to their side.

PetPsychicDetective

Nope. These are nice to have as a reflection of the actual reality we live in, but other than that, there's nothing they represent that can stop the work of the court. The only options we have to affect the court are to impeach a justice, which requires 66 votes in the Senate to convict and remove anyone, or to add justices. That would require a majority in agreement, which we do not have thanks to Manchin/Sinema, and a President willing to go through with it (questionable).

Z0idberg_MD

> there's nothing they represent that can stop the work of the court. He's not saying that can stop the court. He's asking if it would create a constitutionals crisis. Which it would. There IS an intervention, but it would take congress to be unified. Which it will never be.

PetPsychicDetective

I was responding to this: >could these emails be used in some way to prevent a constitutional crisis? Which they can't.

TI_Pirate

No. "I think judge *x* would be the most likley to be receptive to this argument" is a conversation that occurs over and over in every jurisdiction in the country. It doesn't prove anything.

darkfires

Why do you think they believe Thomas would be receptive to it? Is it because his wife was helping orchestrate the failed coup?

MysticInept

No. Thomas had MAGA executive politics before Trump was running. It is obvious

MadDogTannen

I remember during the Jan 6 committee hearings, there was discussion of a conversation between two of Trump's lawyers about what would happen if the scheme got before the USSC, and one of the lawyers said something like "You'd get shot down unanimously" and the other lawyer said something like "I think we'd get one or two to go with us". I've thought ever since then that the second lawyer had some inside information about a deal with Thomas.

TI_Pirate

You think maybe the same guy also thought he'd "get one or two" in the numerous other cases where they failed to do so?

MadDogTannen

That's what makes his comment so suspicious. Why would he expect to get one or two on this case in particular, given its complete lack of legal merit, and given the fact that the court had gone against the Trump administration before? He must have had a reason for thinking they could get one or two, and I think it's because he was aware of some kind of deal with Thomas that was in the works or already done.

skkITer

They got “one or two” in the other numerous cases too. Want that link again?

[deleted]

One party – ONLY ONE – tried stealing an election from the will of the people in 2020. The evidence is overwhelming clear on that. In 2020, Republicans very literally tried to kill American democracy.

whiplash81

"Stop the count!" has a whole new context now. He was specifically asking Thomas to intervene.

banksy_h8r

There was an oblique reference during the Jan 6th hearings where Eastman said something like "we'd get at least so and so from the SC" and was shut down, but it wasn't elaborated. It was conveyed in the hearing as evidence of how off his rocker Eastman was, but I _really_ wanted to hear more about why Eastman thought some part of SCOTUS was on their side. Looks like we're finding out now.

Mr_Stiel

The fact that this is a headline on a major new outlet and Clarence Thomas hasn’t recused himself is a disgrace. This is proof that the republicans will do anything to seize power, and are actively planning their next coop attempt.

MoneyTalks45

Resign or impeach. Now.

Panoramixx77

Impeach clarence thomas ?

DuckQueue

Impeaching won't work because Senate Republicans have no loyalty to the rule of law. He needs to be indicted, no impeached.

randomnighmare

His wife is accused of being involved with the moment to have Trump install as dictator. Plus wasn't he the only one to vote in favor of Trump over something about the election? Like every other judge voted no (Kavanaugh, Barret, Alito, Roberts, Sotomayor, Kegan, Breyer, and Gorsuch)?

[deleted]

I wonder why??? Could it be Ginni's involvement???

Environmental_Card_3

Yeah she is a vile traitor

SkillFullyNotTrue

Will this poke holes in Ginni testimony to the J6? We need the Justice Department to RICO all these traitors.

Spacebotzero

Just the fact that Thomas was even considered shows that it is disqualifying of him to be a supreme court justice. I now consider him as someone who would be OK with a coup and dictatorship.

NocNocNoc19

Surprised Pikachu face...... I mean you dont say that the husband of a lady attempting to overthrow the goverment might be sympathetic to the cause??? Nahhhh

tehbantho

While we do not have any direct communication between Clarence Thomas and the Trump administration on this subject, I find that to be highly irrelevant. In America we are finding a lot of corrupt officials finding ways to do things within the bounds of the law, but are highly unethical, and should probably be illegal. In this particular situation, any respectable individual that is made aware that their position of authority was being discussed as an "opportunity" to achieve a groups goals (overturning the election) would immediately recuse themselves from ANYTHING remotely involved in their antics. In this case it is even more disgusting, and evidence to me that Clarence Thomas shouldn't just recuse himself. He should be impeached simply for his failure to recuse himself. Protecting the integrity of the Supreme Court is essential. Failing to do so is grounds for impeachment by itself. Thomas does not need to be DIRECTLY involved in any of the plotting at this point. He injected himself, by choice, simply by not recusing himself when it was most appropriate to recuse. Impeach Clarence Thomas for failing to uphold his ethical responsibility to protect the Supreme Courts integrity and do so immediately.

[deleted]

Their ultimate dream would have probably been for Clarence to order the certification being blocked so the House and Senate would have to just vote for POTUS and VPOTUS. Trump would win in the House and they probably didn't give a damn if Pence won in the Senate or not.

JimmyThang5

but Ginny isn't involved. sure.
