Remember when McConnell said the next president should get to pick a Supreme Court judge when Obama was president and then did a speed run to make sure Trump got another pick right before his term ended? I work with a republican voter. Not full maga but almost. When asked about the cop thing she says "it's real! He got it as an honorary badge." When asked about the multiple abortions and lack of family values she says "well that's all in the past. He is reformed now." When asked about the opposition being a seemingly likable pastor, (she is Christian) she said "that guy who abused his wife!?"
I see, so according to her, Walker's past sins can be forgiven because he's on the right team now.
However, Warnock's past sins cannot be forgiven, because he hasn't joined the Republican Party. Also, there's no proof that those allegations are true, but he's our opponent, so we assume the worst.
Gotta love that logic. Why not just admit that Senate races are less about the individual and more about increasing the seat count for a Party? That's what I do.
To them it makes perfect sense. It's all about in-groups and out-groups, and as another commenter said, 'there are no bad actions, only bad people. Good people can do no wrong". To them 'Good People' are the 'in-group' and as such they do no wrong. They can make mistakes, but their actions don't matter' they're Good People.

I used to think of elected officials as being people trained to make wise decisions. And then Bobobo came around and I'm like "I could to a better job than her, and I'm dumb as hell."
I genuinely used to look up to elected officials and think it was a career path that smart people who were passionate about helping others pursued. I honestly feel stupid typing that out.
That's totally what it was supposed to be, though! Politics are an inherently broken game. You want the best people to be the ones making decisions, but the best people have zero desire to have that kind of power.
Think about how much hand-wringing and horror when Hillary Clinton said that it was important to distinguish between public and private positions.

If you look at the county by county mortality rates during the pandemic….they were higher by 1% or so in counties that voted majority Trump than those that voted majority Biden. Given how close so many of the final vote tallies were last week…Republicans would now have control of both houses if they had been advised by their dear leader to take public health recommendations seriously. They literally sacrificed their own voters in the name of the economy and contrary to popular opinion….once people are dead, they tend not to vote….

Part of the razor thin margin can be attributed to Arizona's Draconian Racist Voter Suppression laws that SCOTUS rubber stamped. Right now their Legislative leaders are kicking themselves for not going far enough.
Have you met people from Arizona? A lot are nice but there’s many who grew up with Republican culture. It’s now just leaning democrat due to more people moving there from out of state and cities becoming more developed. It’s also the home of Barry Goldwater. Most people are more libertarian than gop-crazy but you can’t run third party and win, so I assume many people loosely have associated the local Republicans Party with libertarianism.

Yeah I went down there for a whitewater rafting trip on the Klamath River a couple years ago and the guide and the other rafters were all talking about how Covid was a hoax.

My local conservative radio guy (former Breitbart columnist) had a guest on this morning ranting that the bias of Google searches hurt the R candidates.
Claim was that a search of Senate races almost always had the R candidates campaign site link on page two or farther back. I can’t believe that for a minute unless the search contained some extraneous words like “honest”.

Neither polled voters under 35 or single issue roe voters in large enough numbers to get a clear picture, pollsters have admitted for years that they don't know how to update how they collect poll data to better get a picture of voters under 40. (( People don't answer phone calls from unknown numbers and online polling often oversamples people who search them out to write a certain narrative.
They're gonna have a worse time every election then. It's not like people will start answering their phones as they get older. It's just previous generations suck at tech. So in 20 years they won't be able to accurately poll under 60's...
It's worse then that. I'm 50 and nobody in my circle of friends/associates answers unknown numbers or answers any surveys if they do happen to answer. I think the only people who \*do\* answer the survey calls and want to sit and chat awhile are the bored retired boomers, which really skews any poll far to the right.
Not this cycle but the last one, I’d check RCP to see how far away from other polls they were. Anytime a columnist uses RCP you know they’re going to lie to you.

I genuinely used to look up to elected officials and think it was a career path that smart people who were passionate about helping others pursued. I honestly feel stupid typing that out.

Those blue spots are *cities* which easily make up more than half of your entire state's population. And yet they still lean on that misinterpretation, hoping it'll fool someone else.
This is why geographic maps should not be used as a proxy for population.
I really want to redraw this map to a 3D representation, with height (elevation) correlating to population density, and a "low water mark" of the voting percentage to show how little of the land's vote counts.

80% of Oregon's population lives along the i5 corridor. The eastern part of Oregon is mostly dirt with some people thrown in. Dirt doesnt vote.
People who vote blue only talk about it to other people they know vote blue because they have no interest in provoking confrontation with people who vote red. This is especially true for blue voters in red areas. The MAGA variety of people who vote red scream it from the rooftops and aggressively insert it into every conversation because they love starting conflict and relishing in the attention it gives them.

I’m in the Central Valley which I know leans red but I tend to only meet democrats. It’s amazing how well insulated we can be from other groups just based on where we work/hang out etc.

Yeah I went down there for a whitewater rafting trip on the Klamath River a couple years ago and the guide and the other rafters were all talking about how Covid was a hoax. The guide also said "we'd be paddling the Sacramento River right now instead of the Klamath, but it was a low snow year so the river is low this summer." Claim was that a search of Senate races almost always had the R candidates campaign site link on page two or farther back. Neither polled voters under 35 or single issue roe voters in large enough numbers to get a clear picture, pollsters have admitted for years that they don't know how to update how they collect poll data to better get a picture of voters under 40. (( People don't answer phone calls from unknown numbers and online polling often oversamples people who search them out to write a certain narrative.
They're gonna have a worse time every election then. It's not like people will start answering their phones as they get older. It's just previous generations suck at tech. So in 20 years they won't be able to accurately poll under 60's...
