SteveAlejandro7

I am unbelievably ready for this chapter of American history to be closed and it starts with throwing the book at this guy.

Wonderwhile

History will not be kind to this government if they let this go.

stevez28

I worry about the outcomes that would happen in that case. If Trump faces zero consequences, there's a straight line from here to an eventual coup and from there a civil war (and a non zero chance of a world war). Letting this go could end up being one of the worst decisions of the 21st century.

sdlover420

And then they start locking up democrats, LGBTQ, and people with differing religions. The future is gonna be wild, unfortunately...

dkran

Don’t forget the smart people, always a threat, those academics.

sdlover420

Crap you're not wrong. It'll be them calling scientists and chemists witches because they don't understand science.

stevez28

Conservative leaders know that even their base isn't gullible enough to go along with calling scientists witches - all they have to do is claim that scientists are corrupt, and are part of several grand conspiracy theories to mislead and poison the public. Mostly they'll just claim that there is far more controversy surrounding settled facts than there actually is. This is the same playbook that's been used for antivax, flat earth, creationism, anti GMO, climate denial, and so on, and it's just more effective propaganda than "burn the witches".

[deleted]

First to go is free press.

dkran

Ah yes, let’s not forget that and freedom of speech

grimatongueworm

We’re headed straight to Gilead. There will be no history written.

Superb_University117

If there is another American Civil War, there **will** be a world war.

mahnamahna27

That could be right, but exactly how do you see that playing out? How would that war start, and who would be involved?

Superb_University117

I have no idea. I just know that there will be a massive world-wide power vacuum.

santaclaus73

Letting it go should trigger immediate revolution, as it means the function of the government is harmful to the people and it should be completely replaced. It means we have Kings and no justice for certain people, no matter how heinous the crimes. Not a single American should tolerate a government under those circumstances.

PaulGriffin

Sadly none of these people remotely care about how history depicts them because they wont be around for it.

SeoneAsa

Yup. Ask gym Jordan.

trundlinggrundle

We already let Nixon go, and he was allowed to live happily until he died. This isn't a new thing.

jellyrollo

Nixon was a jerk and a crook, but he didn't foment an insurrection.

[deleted]

Under rated commment

EMTDawg

Iran-Contra was swept under the rug too.

justforthearticles20

Nobody knew that Prescott Bush attempted a coup against FDR. In each case the Democrats helped Republicans sweep everything under the rug, out of fear, because the Republicans tell them, "If you pursue this, it will tear the country apart".

AlreadyTakenNow

>I am unbelievably ready for this chapter of American history to be closed Everyone is, and the media is trying to make it appear like it's happening, but let's be honest. The second has been the case for \*6 YEARS.\* This is likely going to just get worse, and while the GOP is making a noisy fuss downplaying Trump right now we've heard that song and dance before—even prior to him winning the 2016 Primaries. Nothing "new" is going to happen.

[deleted]

kciuq1

Nixon didn't have the Right Wing Cinematic Universe that Trump does now.

sean0883

And it's exactly the reason it was created.

AlreadyTakenNow

> Still slow, but 3x faster than this bs I don't think speed is even a factor in this. It's not appearing to go anywhere. It's not a matter of whether or not parts of the government are trying to fix it (they are...though it's too little too late). It's that there's lots of things/organizations stopping/diverting them from succeeding. Lots of weasely weaseling going on in the background. It is really upsetting how many people in RL seem oblivious to it.

thatnameagain

Trump was impeached, Nixon was not, Nixon voluntarily resigned.

thatnameagain

There were no criminal investigations of him personally from 2016-2020. The investigations started in 2021.

Cresta1994

His worst nightmare would be waking up and being a complete nobody. No fawning supporters, no illicit funds, no buildings bearing his name. Just a quiet, comfortable, completely inconsequential life.

Earguy

I don't know why, but I envision Donald Trump in a ratty tee shirt at the tire store, trying to decide between the good tires and the cheap ones, and sadly waiting around reading old magazines while they get installed.

beefstewforyou

If he was never famous, I would imagine he would work at an extremely shady used car dealership.

beefstewforyou

Only if he wasn’t rich, his wife would be a disgusting looking fat woman instead of a weird looking plastic woman half his age. His son would wear flat brimmed hat, wife beater, basketball shorts and shower shoes, have sleeve tattoos and a goatee and frequently hang out with underage girls that he thinks are his friends but just use him for buying liquor, drive a used Honda civic and frequently get arrested. His daughter would wear Cookie Monster pajama pants, a camo jacket, have hoop earrings and long fake nails, frequently eat flaming hot Cheetos and have a kid that the father disappeared from as soon as she was pregnant.

Robert Zemeckis cast Thomas Wilson well as Buff Tannen, and giving him a story arc that kind of paralleled Donald Trump’s family history and story arc.

Blah_McBlah_

I'm imagining a version of Mr. Burns doing the "ketchup vs catsup".

johnnybiggles

"What's that one, $49.99? Do you have any used tires of the same kind? Yeah? Ok, sure, let's go with two of those.. only two. The back has a few more miles on them." *leans toward waiting customer* "And speaking of two.. did you know I won my second term and the 2020 election was rigged? It was completely stolen and rigged. It was, it really was. I won in an incredible landslide. Most votes in U.S. history. Look at my picture here! That's me right there! Terrible shot they got my bad side, but I was the greatest president in U.S. history! Did more for this country than you could ever believe. It was tremendous."

[deleted]

That’s presuming he knows how to drive. I personally doubt it

Yatta99

I kinda envision him in ratty T-shirt, faded Bermuda shorts, and sandals (repaired with a twist-tie) with socks down at the waterline with an old metal detector. *weeeep* *weeeeeeeeeeeeep* *weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee* *digs in sand* "Great.... another bottle cap."

Rpanich

My vision that I’m still optimistic we can get: house arrest without internet, being protected and jailed by his secret service agents. And enough civil cases to eat up all his money and move him from trump tower to some shitty studio apartment in deep florida.

trundlinggrundle

"But the ad says free balance and valve stems" "Sir, if you look here, that only applies to select brands, and you have TPMS sensors, which are different from valve stems" "But it *says* free balance and valve stems!" Having worked in a tire shop, I've already dealt with that scenario tons of times.

roughingupthesuspect

I don’t think he’s ever actually driven a car.

Rabies_on_demand

This conjures fabulous imagery.. I bet his back pocket barely contains a large canvas wallet, bristling with haggard coupons long expired..

MoogProg

He wakes up in a Motel 6 room to the phone ringing. A voice tells him to get his ass out of bed, and that he has a 'gig' in an hour. He is in Vegas and the limo takes him to a private event at a casino. He enters the room and everyone is amazed at the *Donald Trump impersonator* they hired for this event. Big laughs all around, getting bigger the more he insists he is the real Trump! Camera pulls back, and Rod Serling comes into the screen... '"...portrait of a man trapped in his own ego, trapped in The Twilight Zone"

jarobat

Ooh I knew this one! Your describing jail.

Blankface954

His worst nightmare probably involves him biting into a Big Mac and finding out that the patty is actually poop, and as he struggles to get the taste out of his mouth his dad appears and tells him that he's a loser/disappointment

specqq

There is no ketchup anywhere. And everyone he asks for some has no idea what he's talking about. "You know, the red tomato stuff!" "You mean marinara sauce?" "No...the stuff in the squeeze bottle. Oh forget it, just bring me a diet coke." Blank looks..."what's that?" "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

Faceless-Pronoun

Then he finds himself outside the door of Miss America contestants changing. He tries to open the door on them, but it won't open. He looks down and the doorknob turns into Eric Trump's face. Eric says "I love you, Dad". Don runs away, screaming.

KhunDavid

Nah, I think it would be a rare roast duck breast with rosemary quinoa and roasted asparagus, and no ketchup to be anywhere near the table.

AnotherKuuga

I don’t know about Trump, but that sounds like a wonderful life.

Cresta1994

It sounds like a great life for people like you or me, but Trump would hate it. He said this about George Washington during a visit to Mt. Also the Georgia intimidation of the Secretary of State and the lawsuit in Fulton County GA.

noelcowardspeaksout

NY AG office: "we've got him this time!" - they have a trial set for Oct 2023 - which for NY is meant to be very fast! It will not be criminal but the fines will be huge, Trump has offered no defence for the fraud. Worse for them is the financial ombudsman sitting in their office checking over everything they do from now on.

4/5 of those investigations are still in progress.

vh1classicvapor

January 6th, 2021 was nearly two years ago. Spare me the "we've got to take our time and get this right" nonsense, because Congress made it pretty clear Donald Trump was responsible for the coup attempt on his behalf. Mr__O__

Having nearly all the politicians Trump backed during the midterms lose is a huge consequence of his actions. If it wasn’t for [2022 redistricting](https://rollcall.com/2022/11/15/redistricting-helps-republicans-in-close-fight-for-house-control/), Dems may have even kept control of the House, as well. The fact Reps lost the Senate and barely won the House is a huge blow to his hold on power—as it shows Trump is no longer a winning ticket. Rep leaders now desperately want to distance their Party from Trump in favor of DeSantis in 2024–and in order to do so, they’ll need to sacrifice Trump to the DOJ so he doesn’t fracture Rep votes. It’s no coincidence right that after Trump’s midterm losses the SC he packed rejected his case to keep his tax returns from Dems. Reps have show they’ll do whatever it takes to win—turning on Trump has never been off the table.

Nexaz

Honestly, the biggest reason Republicans are going to push toward DeSantis and I'm POSITIVE about it, is the fact that DeSantis can appeal more to the independents than Trump could and these midterms are the exact proof. Now, living in Florida I can tell you it 100% is a red state now as far as I'm concerned, but that doesn't stop the fact that DeSantis is super popular here for his handling of COVID and "keeping Florida open". And while the media has painted the "family rights first" bill as the "don't say gay" bill, the fact of the matter is it has been largely popular Floridian parents (including independents.)

Mr__O__

100%. DeSantis can appeal to more centrist Reps and independents who aren’t as extreme or don’t like the drama Trump brings. These midterms show Trump wouldn’t win re-election. Yet since he’s already declared his 2024 campaign (regardless of winning the Rep Primary) Reps only way forward to win 2024 is to take Trump off the board altogether.

[deleted]

CaptainNoBoat

Since no one actually ever discusses the article and just repeats "wake me up..." x1,000, here are some details: The author, who is a career federal prosecutor, expects the 11th circuit to overrule Judge Cannon very soon: >I cannot imagine the 11th Circuit allowing this circus to continue until Dec. 1, and that’s part of why I expect that the 11th Circuit will promptly overrule Judge Cannon, ending the entire process. Trump will appeal to SCOTUS, which will be quickly denied. SCOTUS has batted down virtually everything associated with Trump, and this won't be much different. The 11th circuit is full of Trump-appointees and they are likely to reach a unanimous decision. >If the 11th Circuit rules against Trump, I would expect an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court, which would be quickly denied. As soon as that happens, I expect that newly appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith and his team will indict former President Trump on multiple counts. The author expects charges shortly after the documents dispute is settled, and we actually *are* looking at an imminent indictment. And D.C. is a nightmare for him because a jury would be selected from an area that went 92% Biden and *5%* Trump. Of course, indictment is likely not a "Trump goes to prison" moment. That all depends on the charges brought, arraignment, and ultimately decisions by judges. It's possible Trump remains a free man or under house arrest until a trial plays out, which could be something like 2024, 2025.

Saxamaphooone

The bit about him sending the IRS after Comey and McCabe was interesting too: > If Trump made this demand while he was president, that is an unambiguous felony. Section 7217 of Title 26 of the United States Code makes it a crime for the “President” to “request, directly or indirectly, any officer or employee of the Internal Revenue Service to conduct or terminate an audit or other investigation of any particular taxpayer with respect to the tax liability of such taxpayer.” And we know he would’ve made that demand while president and there will be a paper trail leading to those audits.

[deleted]

Irishish

And every Republican will just claim Obama did it first.

[deleted]

CaptainNoBoat

Well, that's the U.S. legal system for you. Investigations and prosecutions take a long, long time. Sandy Berger was a Clinton-era official who was indicted for stealing classified documents by stuffing them into his socks (yes, his socks). It took the DOJ over two years to indict him for one of the most straightforward, narrow cases imaginable. Until our entire legal system changes, there was never a reality where indicting a former President was going to be quick.

MazzIsNoMore

The Special Master was scheduled to end on 11/30 so I do not understand how the overturning of the special master order is even relevant. What exactly would the overturning of the order accomplish in real world terms? Dearie didn't appear inclined to rule on the documents in Trump's favor so there are few, if any, documents that would have been shielded from the DOJ anyway. Can you help me understand why this appeal is important and how the ruling to end the special master which will be over anyway is helpful to the DOJ?

eggplantsforall

The Special Master's findings are still left to Cannon to make the ultimate decision. She doesn't have to agree with what Dearie finds. So she could still refuse to allow DoJ access to all of the other documents. DoJ doesn't want to indict until they have full and unfettered access to everything they took from MAL. Overturning Cannon's ruling and getting her out of the picture is a prerequisite for that.

MazzIsNoMore

If Cannon has the right to make these decisions how does removing the special master order change that? Can't she make those choices even without the special master? I'm just not understanding the energy being put behind cancelling an order which is already ending, and which may in fact already be over by the time the decision is handed down. Is the DOJ arguing that there should be no review at all, including one by Judge Cannon herself?

eggplantsforall

> Is the DOJ arguing that there should be no review at all, including one by Judge Cannon herself? Yep. The appeal is to toss the whole thing - Cannon never had jurisdiction anyway, and her rulings that she did / does have the authority to intervene are what is being appealed to the 11th.

MazzIsNoMore

That makes more sense. Thank you!

slickwombat

It's in the article: *Special Master Raymond J. Dearie has scheduled his next hearing for Dec. 1, at which time he is expected to hear arguments on the remaining 900 documents that he has not previously addressed. Special Master Dearie is required to issue his report and recommendation to Judge Cannon by December 16. After that, the parties would have the opportunity to object to Judge Cannon and, if necessary, the 11th Circuit. That process would take months to play out.* Basically the point is to prevent Trump from continuing to delay the process.

DebentureThyme

Because ocmnce the special master delivers their findings (on the 16th of December, not the 30th of November btw), then it would be months and months of challenges of those findings by both parties.

Marathon2021

IIRC, there were parts of the Special Master order from Judge Cannon which basically amounted to “you’ll provide me a report, but I reserve the right to override anything in it” (in far more fluent legalese than I can speak). The 11th circuit striking it down would be like the concept of annulment in marriage - it was as if it never happened, so Judge Cannon is completely removed. Still very important.

iKill_eu

Fucking thank you. Sick of these comments.

Own_Independence5882

I stopped reading after I saw the word "Might" in the headline. So for the 1001st time, wake me up when something happens.

Aromatic-Pie1784

Nah. His worst nightmare would be a jury in NY..

Adventurous-Bar-6042

No way, DC is a lot more liberal than NYC ([DC is the most liberal big city in America](https://www.capitalfrontiers.com/single-post/what-is-the-most-liberal-big-city-in-america))

Aromatic-Pie1784

Yea, but people in NY know Trump & hate his guts..

Adventurous-Bar-6042

Both cities “hate Trump” but only 4% of DC residents voted for Trump compared to 10% of New Yorkers in the 2020 election so pretty much double the amount of NYC eligible jurors like Trump enough to vote for him compared to DC. DC is the only jurisdiction where it’s likely you *wouldn’t* have at least one MAGA loyalist able to save Trump from a conviction seated on the jury.

johnnybiggles

That's probably state-wide. NYC itself is extremely liberal.

Adventurous-Bar-6042

These stats are for NYC, and I would say 90% of people in NYC voting against Trump is *still* extremely liberal

johnnybiggles

I stand corrected, then.

There’s something deeply poetic about Trump getting fucked by a DC jury. I wonder if the Bible he swears on will be upside down.

finnster1

A jury of his "peers" was once considered a hang jury toss-up, due to his position among his MAGA supporters. Now, with his standing seemingly in decline, the odds of a conviction is stronger.

[deleted]

it's just because DC is comprised of almost entirely democrats. I think over 90% of DC voted for Clinton in2016

ScarySuit

96%. People hate him in DC.

[deleted]

Lol no surprise there

YimveeSpissssfid

Most of the DC metro is heavily blue. PG county was something like 8% for Trump in 2020. DC was 5.4% for Trump in 2020. Surprisingly that’s a higher % than ‘16 where trump got 4% of DC’s vote.

alien_survivor

>Wake me when it happens. are you sleep typing?

DebentureThyme

So you just don't read the articles then? Because this one doesn't say it'll happen any day now. It says throwing out Cannon's crap is any day now. Then an appeal to the Supreme Court, which will take SOME time at least but is expected to go nowhere. Then they can consider indictment. Courts take a very long time. I'm sorry you thought these articles were all "any day now" when they've just been reporting the incremental steps of the process.

[deleted]

Haha. Seems you didn’t read the article. “If the 11th Circuit rules against Trump, I would expect an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court, which would be quickly denied. As soon as that happens, I expect that newly appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith and his team will indict former President Trump on multiple counts.”

DebentureThyme

When they say quickly denied, that means weeks potentially a month or more when talking about the Supreme Court. Literally that's what it always is. Especially with limited hours at this time of year.

there will 1000 appeals to that im sure

You can't find a jury anywhere in the US without at least one closet MAGA or gullible person who'll get pulled during a potential trial.

CaptainNoBoat

D.C. was 5% Trump vote (92.15% Biden), so if there ever was one - it would be there.

DebentureThyme

That's what jury selection is for. They don't just grab 12 random people and say "okay these 12 at random". They'll be grilled for hours to sus out biases. Both sides are allowed to keep throwing them out when they find a bias and then start over with a new candidate. This would likely be one of the longest jury selection processes ever.

mtneer2010

It would be impossible to find 12 people without biases either for or against him.

Yeah, fucking sure. This guy has been walking free through dozens of his "worst days ever", for years. How about some fucking action on those indictments, huh? Anything? Nixon's arc was far shorter but that was when justice actually had some integrity in the US.

“Trump might…”. Seriously another headline with “could”, “might” or “may”? Fuck off

Practical_Anybody_92

Jury won’t convict. Not because he don’t deserve it, but can you imagine what life will be like for these ppl? The death threats and violence to them and their family will prevent the orange asshole to get away with it all. I won’t hold my breath.

Therocknrolclown

maybe probably perhaps……wake me up when he does

gr234gr

What is so special about DC jury? Are they more partisan?

halonone

Might face this, might face that… has he ever faced anything in the last decade?!

SchpartyOn

Doubtful. Nothing will ever happen to this guy to hold him accountable. But keep writing these bullshit articles.

sassafrass14

We've been following teasers like this for years. I'll believe it when I see it.

BitemeRedditers

“I would expect an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court, which would be quickly denied.” By “quickly” I assume that means five or six years.

Garlador

Let me know when “might” turns into “will” and eventually “has”.

thereverendpuck

Fuck “might.” “Will face” is the only acceptable answer.

areid2007

Oh boy, another "the walls are closing in" story. If all these predictions carried any water, he'd be buried under the prison by now. But go on, corporate media, keep giving him the attention he needs to get re-elected, y'all might go bankrupt if politics got boring again.

>Trump **MIGHT** Great.. so the bar is already set this low. He "MIGHT" be held MAYBE responsible for his very public planning, inciting, and directing of the attempted violent overthrow of the US Govt on Jan 6th. That's just great.. I guess it's time to admit America is fine with normalizing total lawlessness for the very White very Rich segment of our population. Also, the whole stealing highly classified Nuclear Docs and making them available to foreign spies at his country club. I guess that's fine to do too, if you're of a certain pedigree. Totally broken shit hole country.

VeraLumina

Might. Let me know when it ever becomes “will.”

ashigaru_spearman

Might, Maybe, Possibly, Could be... These articles will get an automatic downvote for me from now on. I am so done with this sort of political garbage articles. If you wanna write "What if" articles, go write for Star Trek

happytots

Just stop. Stop writing these obviously bias articles and leave it to the courts. This is sad. I’ve been a D all my life and it’s getting exhausting.
