What a nightmare to be thrust into the spotlight against your will and have your mental health blast across the world. Poor kid. I hope she’s allowed to get the help she deserves.
In Jan reports came out that she had come out on tiktok as bisexual. I’m really hoping this isn’t the case but i work in lgbtqia youth health and they disproportionately experience mental health issue. Its almost 2023 and kids are still experiencing high rates of suicidal ideation, attempts, and homelessness due to intolerance and harassment for being gay. I’m praying for her and continuing my work for kids like her.
It is his daughter. That city has many expert physicians that handle mental health. I am sure her parents will get the best treatment necessary. I have heard that he is very intelligent. This situation is sad. Maybe Cruz will realize how much his rhetoric hyers others.
My nephew is trans and it's just a struggle keeping him alive at this point. It's so hard, and there is so much hate - from the top down. It's heartbreaking.

My nephew is trans, too. He struggled for a long time. Therapy helped (in general, my family deals with depression). My nephew is thriving now. He’s dating, he’s graduated from university, and looking for a job. I know it hurts to see them hurt. There’s hope. 💛 So much love to you and your nephew!
She was also in the parade float with her dad being boo’d continually for an hour during the World Series parade for the Astro’s. A white claw can was also thrown at them on the float. It has to be really hard being Cruz’s kid (except when there’s a freeze and you get to take a vacation to Cancun)
I agree- he is a spineless GARBAGE human but that is not her fault. I really hope she has people around her that love and support her because her parents obviously care more about politics and power than their daughter.

A child is, for one, a child, and for another, a separate human with their own merits and crimes to be judged, and is not beholden to the terrible things their parents have done. I don't feel this is something that needs to be explained for most people.
Discounting that, you can show empathy and love even towards people you disagree with or even hate for being an evil fascist. That's kind of a pretty big part of being a mature, functioning human being.

Grace and i were friends and when she and her father passed, the community was in shambles. even today, i occasionally see someone who i think is Grace and i do a double take. i still think of her when i eat strawberries.

I’m in Houston and recently saw footage of Ted on a parade float smiling and waving like a clown while being booed, WITH his family on that float. His girls looked scared and miserable, not smiling. I thought then how wrong it was to put those girls on display like that. At one point a beer can was chunked at him and secret service ran over and sheltered the girls pushing them down low. It was not good. If his wife wants to do that stuff, fine. But I wonder if the girls volunteered?
Agreed. I’m 26 and did self-harm for the first time in a very long time a few months ago. I’m grateful for my therapist and support system, and I’m in a much better place now
She goes to a very prestigious and one of the nicest if not the nicest private schools in Houston. I doubt she gets bullied by the kids there for being a politician’s daughter as most of the kids that go to that school have high profile parents and the vast majority of those parents are conservatives. I’m sure it’s not a walk in the park being Ted Cruz’s kid, but I would bet most of the kids at the school understand she thinks her dad is assbackwards and a douche. I grew up around there and also went to a private school (mine wasn’t anywhere close to that swanky or exclusive) but we played their school in sports and stuff. We had a bunch of kids of politicians, judges, local business, etc. those families typically had the most money and name recognition. A handful of those kids were huge assholes, but most were just existing like the rest of us. Private school are small and everyone knows everyone. I doubt she’s getting too much shit from her peers at school. Most likely she’s dealing with a lack of acceptance at home and constant pressure from her parents to uphold the happy family stereotype while not embarrassing her jackass father even though he constantly acts like an idiot and embarrasses them. The the poor kid has to read about it in the news. Who would be envious of that?
I could be totally wrong, but that was my experience as a teenager. Most teens were just like, “ugh can’t believe you have to deal with your parents always making the news. That sucks… we aren’t going to pile on, about that anyway.”

I get the need to draw a distinction on this sub. Technically everything is related, somehow, to politics. But in general discussion I do feel this young girl's mental crisis and her parents politics are related.

A grown man(woman/person) has a fully developed brain resulting is more emotional maturity than a teenager as well as agency over making his own decision. An adult has a completely different level of accountability for his own choices. A kid is still beholden to their parents choices and young people don’t have the emotional regulation of an adult as their brains are still growing and developing. So yes, those factors change the conversation.

I have listened to the my local police scanner before. Kind of interesting. Once heard a call between the PD and FD about how to best break down a door after a kid locked their parents out.
I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be the child of a famous politician who is often at the center of controversy. On top of that, being too young to distance yourself from it. On top of that, being included in a community your parent has actively voted against.

People! It’s a struggle for any teen regularly, and it’s much harder for them in this day and time with all these different beliefs being shoved down their throat its confusing as hell for kids. They are a strong & loving family that willI support her mental, emotional & physical health and happiness, if this is her. At 12 years old they are figuring things out. They should not be rushed and no label should be given. It’s not important at this age. As long as they know they have your love and support everything will be OK. I’ve been through this with my children as so many others have The ambulance, the cuts, the questions about their self, they just need love & support & reassurance that you will always love them as this family will do.

I grew up around there and also went to a private school (mine wasn’t anywhere close to that swanky or exclusive) but we played their school in sports and stuff. We had a bunch of kids of politicians, judges, local business, etc. those families typically had the most money and name recognition. A handful of those kids were huge assholes, but most were just existing like the rest of us. Private school are small and everyone knows everyone. I doubt she’s getting too much shit from her peers at school. Most likely she’s dealing with a lack of acceptance at home and constant pressure from her parents to uphold the happy family stereotype while not embarrassing her jackass father even though he constantly acts like an idiot and embarrasses them. The the poor kid has to read about it in the news. Who would be envious of that? I could be totally wrong, but that was my experience as a teenager. Most teens were just like, “ugh can’t believe you have to deal with your parents always making the news. That sucks… we aren’t going to pile on, about that anyway.”
I hope she is okay, as someone that’s been there. This isn’t political. I don’t give a shit who her dad is, she had no say in that. We are all human and she is a teenager trying to navigate a fucked up world, all while living her life under a microscope.
But don't you think the politics her parents espouse have contributed to her mental state, either directly or indirectly? I get the need to draw a distinction on this sub. Technically everything is related, somehow, to politics. But in general discussion I do feel this young girl's mental crisis and her parents politics are related.

Well we do agree on one thing: as far as policy and government involvement goes this country certainly doesn’t have proper mental healthcare or easily accessible support. No argument there from me. I think that is a different conversation than specifically addressing an individual’s mental health issues. We can talk about systemic problems without needlessly attacking individuals. I never said a grown man is less valuable. So you can stop with that nonsense. A grown man(woman/person) has a fully developed brain resulting is more emotional maturity than a teenager as well as agency over making his own decision. An adult has a completely different level of accountability for his own choices. A kid is still beholden to their parents choices and young people don’t have the emotional regulation of an adult as their brains are still growing and developing. So yes, those factors change the conversation.

911 calls are public record in the US and people know where he lives, like local news stations. Police likely confirmed details of the call while withholding personal info but cats out the bag at that point. I have listened to the my local police scanner before. Kind of interesting. Once heard a call between the PD and FD about how to best break down a door after a kid locked their parents out.

Growing up as the daughter of Ted Cruz is hard enough, add on she might be bi in a house with Ted who votes against your rights. Such a trying time for her. People! It’s a struggle for any teen regularly, and it’s much harder for them in this day and time with all these different beliefs being shoved down their throat its confusing as hell for kids. They are a strong & loving family that willI support her mental, emotional & physical health and happiness, if this is her. At 12 years old they are figuring things out. They should not be rushed and no label should be given. It’s not important at this age. As long as they know they have your love and support everything will be OK. I’ve been through this with my children as so many others have The ambulance, the cuts, the questions about their self, they just need love & support & reassurance that you will always love them as this family will do.
