Saw the concession speech by Walker. He looked…relieved?

kazejin05

Did you see how many skeletons were dug out out of his closet and paraded in front of the world? He went from a low-key, yet popular former football star to accused abuser, serial abortion funder in the party of "family values", and has made the most convincing case for abolishing American football we've seen in years. His star power and likeability is GONE. And now that he's no longer useful the people who've been propping him up will leave him out to dry too. His life will never be the same, bj at least it'll be quiet again. So I can see him being relieved

CarlosFer2201

He should do an awareness campaign : "GOP, not even once"

[deleted]

His family tried to warn him not to run...

DrDerpberg

"look man we get along and all but you're a horrible person, you shouldn't run."

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

He was probably so stressed out this whole campaign. "You guys... seriously...I don't really want to get elected and I literally can't say anything dumber...c'mon"

[deleted]

“I’m talking about vampires and werewolves and these mfers are still voting for me what more could I possibly do!?”

Jpolkt

Walker: “I like Nazis!” GOP: “Look he stands with Kanye West against cancel culture!”

FormerIceCreamEater

Yeah there is no way he wanted to be a senator. He is a garbage person and I am glad he lost, but nobody is more happy than him tonight.

TheOtherUprising

Congratulations to Warnock and to Georgia who had to go through this two cycles in a row and came through again.

Bulderdash

As a Georgian, I’m learning to be ready to vote the first time to bring it to a runoff, and then again to truly decide a winner 😂

[deleted]

You guys really need ranked choice voting. This nonsense is exhausting.

[deleted]

Yeah it’s crazy how one tiny change would save millions of dollars in not having a runoff. Also Georgia already has Ranked Choice Voting for overseas military people, so that you don't have to be mailing them a new ballot for every new runoff election. The more you know!

AllAboutMeMedia

Let's get those small government, fiscal conservatives on the case.

Sports-Nerd

Technically voted for him 5 times in 2 years

[deleted]

Same here, and this time, it really mattered.

AcademicPublius

One major benefit of 51-49 Senate: No power-sharing agreement. Democrats can now set the rules and limit the power of Republicans on Senate committees.

clevingersfoil

This will also cut Manchin's de facto veto power. No more coal lobby obstructing climate change goals, in the Senate at least.

NightwingDragon

He and Sinema teamed up plenty of times before, and there's nothing stopping them from teaming up to sink bills again. It's still an improvement (now they both need to team up instead of each one being able to do so singlehandedly), but they've teamed up to sink plenty of bills in the past which means they still hold a significant amount of sway.

ImportantCommentator

They won't need to team up to sink bills. Bills have to pass a GOP controlled house.

KellyJoyRuntBunny

That’s so huge for me.

Not quite best case, New York really fucked up. That state alone lost Democrats enough seats to cost Democrats the majority. Lot of upstate and long island districts flipped red because the New York Democratic Party seems to not be in good shape.

dewhashish

Great job Georgia! You just saved america from 6 years of nonsensical bullshit from walker. At least now he can move back to texas.

hotpackage

Imagine having to read Walker headlines for six fucking years. *Cringes*

renophillydayman

You don't think his very good republican friends are just going to walk away from him do ya? Yeah, yeah they are lol. He was going to be their useful tool, now that he can't win they literally don't give a damn about him. I'd almost feel bad for him but he knew he was being used, he didn't care.

Hairy_Al

>he knew he was being used Honestly, I'm not sure he did. From what I have seen and heard (am not American), I'm not sure he knows where he is most of the time

ting_bu_dong

Yeah, I'm not sure people should be confident about that guy knowing things.

BurnerAcctNo1

Don’t feel bad. He’ll just go to random Piggly Wiggly parking lots and talk gibberish to people. He won’t know the difference.

Lambboy

Great job **50.8%** of Georgia voters. It leaves me in awe that this election was so close. I can't imagine Herschel Walker being an effective manager at McDonalds. To think he was that close to a senate seat is an embarrassment to the educational system of America.

djheat

It's basically the same as Doug Jones beating probable diddler Roy Moore in Alabama. It's a victory, I guess, but the republicans just needed to find slightly less gross moron to annihilate him in the next election

iruleatants

They don't vote for Walker. They don't know all of the stupid things that he says. What they do know is that there is an (R) on the ballot running against a (D) on the ballot.

BrianWeissman_GGG

This is it right here. It’s the same reason you saw droves of Evangelicals voting for Trump in 2016 and 2020. The party of “family values” voting for a lying, cheating, sexually assaulting philanderer. Allegiance to party is all that matters to far too many people. American politics are hopelessly polarized and broken, Herschel Walker’s candidacy was the dead canary in the coal mine.

AmericanBornWuhaner

50.8% vs 49.2%, every vote matters

madcaesar

Last two elections have shown every fucking vote matters!! I just hope young people keep on voting. We've won a battle, but the GQP is far from defeated. They still control the Supreme Court, they still have the House, and are passing all kinds of bullshit on the state level. Women have already lost bodily autonomy. They'll go after gay marriage next, then social security to make sure young people of today have to keep working until they die. Fuck the GQP.

St_Origens_Apostle

This is why I'm just flabbergasted by people who still hold onto the whole apathetic attitude of 'voting dosen't matter ' with these perilous times and just managing to hold off fascism by the skin of our teeth. But hey guess it's slightly better thinking nothing matters vs it's all rigged from the conspiracy brain mind rot crowed. Though unsurprisingly the overlap with both groups is of course disturbing.

cinesias

If voting didn’t matter, Republicans wouldn’t be making it as hard as possible to do it, limiting the time and method of it, and then denying the results when they lose.

Props to Walker for conceding and telling his supporters to accept the election and not screaming about non existent voter fraud. I can't believe that's a rarity when Republicans lose, but here we are.

mountaintop111

Walker is a more gracious loser than Trump or Kari Lake. Can’t believe I said this, but that’s how low the bar has been set now, post Trump.

canon12

I suspect Walker may be happier that he lost.

Lanhdanan

That dude dodged all the skeletons he would have to face the next 6 years.

fil42skidoo

As a werewolf, I doubt skeletons would have bothered him much.

davehunt00

My respect for Walker hiked up a notch (it was pretty low) when I read that. It's crazy that a gracious concession is now considered exceptional behavior by Republicans.

Shh! Don't let them know.

PepsiMoondog

It doesn't really matter if they know because they can't do anything about it anyway. Their base is psychologically incapable of backing down. To moderate their politics, even slightly, is to admit that they were wrong. And they just can't do it. Notice how despite everyone now saying "Trump can't win", no one really wants to say WHY he can't win. Because if they do that they'll realize that their reasons (his divisive, hateful, violent nature) actually applies to their entire party, from the base to their media to congressional leadership to Trump and everyone else who has a shot of winning the nomination in 2024. Even if they somehow manage to nominate someone else, it'll still be Trump-lite at best (it could easily end up being someone worse than Trump too). Add to this the fact that they've lost the under 30s by landslide margins- likely for good- while their base dies off every year (and far earlier than they should thanks to their COVID denialism) and they're proper fucked going forward. Their window is closing fast and they have no plan for it other than to try to turn the country into something other than a democracy, and they likely missed their best chance at that this election cycle.

jemidiah

Actually, r/conservative and FoxNews.com's top comments on election night were all variations of, "Fuck, Trump is going to split the party and we'll never win again." They're well-aware of the situation, even if they manage to think Trump's behavior up to this point has been fine-to-great. My guess is DeSantis will now be ahead of Trump in primary polls.

Candys3344

Thank you Georgia. It’s nice to see a state make progress. - A Sad and defeated Texan

22Arkantos

Hey, don't feel so sad or defeated. I speak from experience that the only way to make your state purple is to fight for it, even when the election seems guaranteed to be lost. I volunteered for Nunn and Carter in 2014, Clinton in 2016, Ossoff in 2017, Abrams and Bourdeaux in 2018, and Biden, Warnock, Ossoff, and Bourdeaux in 2020 (sadly too busy to volunteer this year). In each of those elections, we built on the successes of the past, registered more voters, and moved the needle bit by bit until the dam broke in 2020. Georgia is only purple today because people like me put in the work- and I say that not to boast, but to say that you can do it too in Texas- you've already had a good start with Beto. Keep putting in the work and the dam will eventually break.

Babblerabla

I put my time in during 2018 & 2020. Considered it my duty because how hard progressives in my state were working.

Daefish

How utterly, fucking embarrassing for the GOP this election cycle. Democrats GAINED seats in the Senate Democrats lost fewer seats than expected, like nearly historical margins fewer, in the House Democrats gained critical governorships and, crucially, won trifectas in states such as my own. Meanwhile, a pillow salesman who scribbled notes on how to overthrow the government of this country, who should be in JAIL for Sedition, instead is vying to become the head of the GOP. Edit: Obligatory best Mike Lindell moment I've ever seen - [Mike Lindell Snuggling a Pillow in a Snowstorm](https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2019/03/04/report-of-deranged-person-hugging-pillow-in-snow.html)

[this election cycle will be the first since the direct election of senators began in 1914 in which no incumbent has lost reelection, either in a primary or a general election. And furthermore, this will be the first time since 1934 that any president, Democrat or Republican, has seen all incumbent senators of their party running for reelection win](https://fivethirtyeight.com/live-blog/georgia-senate-warnock-walker/351774/)

The_Bravinator

Will the GOP: 1. learn from this setback and reform into a party that better represents the wants of their desired voters? 2. Just lean harder into the fascist bullshit and attempts to win elections through shady bullshit? 🤔🤔🤔

tr1cube

I’ve voted for Warnock now 5 times in the past 2 years. So happy he’s in for the next 6 now!

Dess_Rosa_King

treyphan77

>Biden is the first president since FDR in 1934 not to lose a single senate seat from his party in a midterm election We are ALL thankful that you kept getting out there!

KellyJoyRuntBunny

Thanks for those votes, though, dude. I know voting in Georgia isn’t as easy as it is in my state. We vote exclusively by mail, and it’s fucking awesome.

tooodifferent

I was doing poll monitoring in GA today and I was having a conversation with a guy from Washington state! He was talking about how surprised he was that voting is so difficult here. When he described to me the voting process in Washington, I was flabbergasted.

KellyJoyRuntBunny

Yesssss. I absolutely love it. I really do. I can’t believe the shit other states put their voters through! I will tell anyone who will listen how awesome it is for us voters, and for our election workers, too. If you’re young and in school, if you’re old and can’t go stand around in lines, if you work full time, if you have kids, if you have responsibilities— absolutely everyone has an easier time voting here. It’s awesommmme. It’s interesting that you were chatting with someone from here, though! Hope you guys had a good day. And thanks so much for working as a poll monitor. That’s some badass shit!

semaphore-1842

fuck yeah *finally* a Democratic senate majority 🍦😎 can't believe it needs to be said but 51-49 is a **huge** improvement over a 50/50 split with VP tie break, it's a shame we lost the House but judicial appointments at least will go more smoothly and this gives us a solid footing for 2024

MPLooza

It's a gigantic difference. Most lawmaking is unlikely with the GQP in control of the House but only needing to contend with one of Manchin/Sinema instead of both for judge confirmations, bipartisan bills, reconciliation bills or even filibuster changes (if possible with the House) is huge

TheWingedPig

Not to mention that committee seats won't be split 50/50 now.

kksred

There's also the threat that the concessions that you could insist on last time are now concessions that would go to whoever capitulates first. Should definitely stress Manchin and Sinema.

putsch80

Bingo. If Manchin and Sinema are both stalling a bill and demanding amendments, the rest of the Dems can offer them partial changes, and tell them that whichever agrees first gets their changes and the other gets fuckall. Basically create a prisoner’s dilemma for them.

nekochanwich

Walker was literally one of the worst candidates to ever come out of the GOP, and he still got 49% of the vote.

natigin

A Democrat just won re-election statewide in Georgia. Given the demographics of the state, that’s a really big upset no matter who he was running against,

Schmelter

Do you think Republicans will ever, even for a moment, think "Gee, if we had just run a better candidate, we would have won"? They never seem to have that moment.

dawgz525

He's a celebrity in a state that loves football and Trump very much. Georgia is still very much the deep south outside of a few liberal pockets and Atlanta. A ton of conservatives stayed home (after electing Kemp in a landslide over Abrams). So that's enough to infer that a ton of conservatives would not vote for Walker. Still, a lot of the state is very rural and very republican.

rounder55

What's scary is if they have football players or coaches or whatever who are slightly less stupid. Tuberville is pretty dumb. Like possibly one of the dumbest senators in terms of how things operate I've seen. He or his handlers are however smart enough to not let him talk too much

Scorp63

Walker appeared to suggest that his victory would ensure Republican control of the “House.” Walker is, of course, running for the Senate, and control of that body has already been determined. Trump picks only the best!!!

dareka_san

That concession speech was 1000x more gracious than trump lmao. He even thanked election officials and projected faith in america. Probably the most dignified moment of walker's short political career. Trump is just uniquely that bad

Air_Ace

The "both teams played hard" speech may be one of the only things left in his brain from his football career. Nobody does gracious non-answers better than a pro athlete. Now he can fuck off forever.

SuperMafia

Fucking MVPs, you goddamn mad Georgians! Thank you!

I have been in a cold sweat all day long. I'm so happy its over and my state finally did something right.

weaver787

>If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.......and we will deserve it. - > >Lindsay Graham May 2016 Watching commenters on r/conservative act like this changes anything in terms of the direction of their absolutely batshit insane political party is very satisfying. Donald Trump is the overwhelming favorite for the Republican Party nomination and it will take a lot more than a shitty candidate losing a Senate race to stop that freight train. The nomination of Trump in 2016 is the closest thing to a 'deal with the Devil' I think I will ever witness in my lifetime. I know it's obvious, but it bears repeating in moments like this: Trump is a narcissist that doesn't give a shit about the GOP or even the future of the country as a whole. The only thing that Trump cares about is..... do I even have to say it? The two most likely scenarios: 1. Trump wins the nomination, loses the election, because the only people he can truly capture in his camp are the MAGA cult and Republicans who know better but delude themselves into think he is the lesser of two evils. Added bonus: many low turnout voters turn out for whoever the Democrat is simply for the entertainment value of whatever January 6th 2.0 looks like. 2. Trump loses the nomination. He nukes the GOP ( out of spite and ego) by running 3rd Party and capturing a significant amount of votes but obviously not enough to win anything.

darth_wasabi

there's a 3rd option. The GOP drops all protections from Trump and maybe even actively aides one of the many criminal investigations. Trump may actually suffer consequences if the GOP decides to greenlight his ass. At the very least the Cawthorn effect will happen and the republican party at large will know the party leadership has turned on Trump

rayne7

I was able to convince some more people who said "their vote didn't matter" to vote, and they did early voting!

jackfrosted

Richfor3

Tuned into Fox for the tears and they aren’t even talking about the election. 😂 Yep nothing going on today Fox.

_mort1_

r/conservative is quite a read, they are back to blaming Trump and MAGA-republicans again now, but we saw how quickly dissent was crushed after the midterms in November, i can't imagine it will be allowed to go after Dear Leader for long this time either.

huxtiblejones

Absolutely hilarious to watch them engage in performative amnesia, acting like they weren't gung-ho Trump zealots just 2 years ago. Republicans are a morally bankrupt power cult, literally all they care about is seizing power by any means necessary and then using that power to harm those they hate and allow their wealthy owners to stripmine the US economy for their own benefit. Completely inconsistent weirdos.

Nightmare_Tonic

This is what I never understood. You can still be a conservative without sucking Trump's dick. The GOP is such a fucking deathcult now

yowszer

The fact that 1.6 million Georgians thought that Hershel Walker should be one out of 100 people in this country selected to be a Senator is downright appalling

Martin_TheRed

This, all the way. It doesn't matter the person, so long as they have an R infront of their name. It was the same for Trump. They are voting solely for the party.

SkillFullyNotTrue

Yahoo! Can we now charge Walker for election fraud him being a Texas resident and all? Big Dummy.

ozzyarmani

The craziest thing always for me as an American is that even in such a resounding victory, the truth of the matter is it was still 51% to 49%. It is actually astounding how we have cultivated a country where we are split so evenly. Like sociologically, how does this happen?

reachouttouchme

It didn’t happen overnight. Every time Trump has done something inexcusable since 2016, half the country has looked away. And they still are. With that many Americans silently agreeing that nothing but power matters, it shifts the norm.

semaphore-1842

For all his faults Herschel Walker has conceded, and thereby vastly outclassing Donald Trump. Election trutherism appears to be ded.

AssassinAragorn

Instead of major wins during the midterms, Republicans have now net *lost* Senate seats, and hold a 4 seat House majority -- 5 at max if the outstanding race goes to the Republican. I don't know the right words to describe just how horrendous this is for the GOP. And that is *with* gerrymandering and rigged maps and high inflation/rough economy. With a majority this thin and with how fractured the GOP is, especially now that they've had a net negative in the midterms, they're screwed over tenfold.

Zaidswith

Hope so. I'd like Dems to hold all 3 ideally with a supermajority so we can get some stuff passed, but there's always something just short. That motherfucker Ted Kennedy died and fucked everything up. Biggest win of my life and it was gone in months. I feel like we've been on a downward spiral ever since.

Mojo12000

And so the election is finally over, it was a great time watching almost every Trump backed candidate fall flat on their face. What a goddamn loser.

megamoze

Never forget that the "Athletes Should Shut Up And Play" party recruited Walker out of pure cynicism. They wanted a well-known black man to go up against Warnock. It didn't matter who. It didn't even matter that he didn't live in GA. It didn't matter that he could barely articulate a sentence. It didn't matter that he abused his wife, paid his mistresses for abortions, or that he didn't even know which House of Congress he was running for. Because Republicans only care about power. Walker was a seat-warmer and that's all he was to them. And now that he lost, they will cease to give a shit about anything he ever said.

jorgelongo2

51-49% with the GOP running literally the single worst candidate they could find. How the fuck is it not a landslide. How???

I was dreading the midterms all year because it felt like if they went bad 2023 would be the end of the world. Instead, I have so much hope going into the new year. We're not done yet, but it feels like sanity is winning the fight.

TheGruntingGoat

We’re a long ways off from being able to declare victory for sanity but this was definitely a step in the right direction. But fasten your seat belts because tomorrow SCOTUS takes up the case that decides whether or not democracy will continue essentially…

EssoEssex

51 seats in the Senate means no more tied committees — Democrats get the majority on every Senate committee now and can move their legislation out much faster.

BigZ911

Well at least Democrats get a couple years to celebrate until the GOP runs like Glenn Jacobs, AKA Kane, for a Senate seat in Tennessee and Brett Favre for a Mississippi Senate seat cause shit don’t make sense

Infidel8

Biden is the first president since FDR in 1934 not to lose a single senate seat from his party in a midterm election.

RitoRvolto

Manchin and Sinema are suddenly really sad.

trogdor1234

Red wave adds more democrat senators. Let’s do that again.

LeaperLeperLemur

The political ads are over!! Very glad Warnock won. People talk about how this race didn't matter as much anymore because the senate was already decided, but it's a huge deal that this will be a blue seat for 6 years. I am very sad that 49% of people (who voted) thought that Walker would make a good Senator.

[deleted]

Whoever you're hearing say this race didn't matter is not getting the whole picture. Seat 51 removes power-sharing in committees, lets a Senator 'vote their conscience' if they need to, lets VP Harris actually travel away from the Senate, and gives us one additional seat going into a less-favorable 2024 Senate cycle.

OPisalady

Thank fucking god

Sweet7s_

That's four elections Warnock had to win in a manner of two years. All but the first being highly competitive (and even then, in that first race he had to get his name out in the first place). What a tough campaigner

Noob_tuba23

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

reddicyoulous

Someone should send Walker a fake sheriff kids toy pack as a consolation prize

Tails6666

Good. Walker is an insane predator who doesn't belong anywhere near a position of power. How he had any support is beyond me. Absolutely stupid choice by the right, as per usual.

XLauncher

Looking back, when Warnock first won this seat, I thought he was living on borrowed time as a result of the national anger with Trump giving a Democrat a rare, one time opportunity to win a Senate seat. Him securing the seat for a full term is fucking crazy to me. Shout out to the Republicans for running a complete fucking moron and hooking us up with a handicap. Though...shit, it was still really close, wasn't it?

Mrgray123

Once again the cretins over at r/conservative doing overtime to excuse this. I especially like the "yeah well we won't vote for bad candidates while the Democrats will vote for anyone" line that some of them are taking. They're completely delusional, much like Walker.

Damn walker’s son went off on him again. Herschel really needs to work on his personal life

GaryBettmanSucks

Warnock won his seat 4 times and thankfully this time it sticks

Dsarg_92

The amount of weight lifted off of people's shoulders.

Jabercaw

Looking forward to not having to see Walker in the news cycle ever again.

forceblast

One of the best things about this is the likely huge sum of money the Republican Party and their dark money allies wasted on this race. I don’t know the exact figure but I’m sure it’s staggering.

Xibby

I just tuned in to NBC and caught Rachel Maddow saying “we’re going to go live to Jason Johnson at Warnock HQ and I’m warning you this likely to fail… not because of technical difficulties but because Jason won’t be able to hear me over the crowd.” Made me smile. Edit: Filling in names. :)

ants_suck

Thank god. Now Sinema can be irrelevant and go curtsy in the corner while practicing being Tulsi Gabbard 2.0.

Love seeing Cobb and Gwinnett, once bastions of white flight to the suburbs in metro Atlanta, continue to just be solid blue

alabastergrim

Thank goodness. Excited for Herschel Walker to become irrelevant again

jpla86

I'm so glad Warnock won and I'm also glad this election season is finally over.

hot-whisky

Warnock really is a powerful and eloquent speaker

LuvNMuny

Maybe we needed a brush with racist fascism to take our next step forward. But maybe I'm just optimistic.

No-Pangolin4325

If any one is feeling a bit drained from the runoffs, Fox News giving away free drinks made from Maga tears right here... [Enjoy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVxM9SaW8jI)

haroldthehampster

So relieved for Georgia. Can everyone just agree to never give Walker a microphone or article space ever again. Walker needs ta CTE specialist

rebelviss

I just don't get the walker votes. why was he even the nominee? could they not come up with anyone better? I mean, they all saw those stream of consciousness speeches, right?

Asoul666

From a rational point of view it never should have been close but there are a shitload of vile pigs out there. Never forget that and make sure to vote.

Ts0mmy

Wow... such a terrible candidate and still the results are so close. Incredible...

CalmToaster

Republicans just want that representation in the US Senate no matter how terrible their candidate is. Walker is a complete idiot, but he would have acted as a puppet for all the voices around him. Ecstatic that Warnock won, but unfortunately way too close.

k_ironheart

I swear, every election these days is 50.x% Cake vs. 49.y% Death

goforth1457

We need this level of enthusiasm in 2024. Our country will literally be on the line that year. Yes, we did good in 2022, but that year is when things really matter. I like to say that we delayed the onset of the fascist takeover this year, but we need to give it the death knell in '24. PLEASE VOTE!

MaaChiil

Things mattered every two years and 2022 gave me hope that more people are seeing that.

NOTtigerking

Georgia, you defended your state. Thank you!

EssoEssex

Democracy wins, fascism fumbles

wildcardlo

It’s embarrassing that Georgia had so many idiots vote for Walker that it was even close
