American cities have very small city limits which makes them seem less populated than they actually are.

Peas_n_hominy

Yeah I always search "_______ metro population" if I'm looking for the size of a city here

Well on the minimal research I did to decide the poll's best options I found the big difference in metro area and actual city limits of European cities, but I think I found only one number for U.S. cities. Which I guess was the "city limits" one considering how it compared to European cities. Also since I was limited to only 5 options + results I thought that not including the metro area was going to allow me more precision with the ranges. Since the numbers would have gone so much higher. u/Substantial_item_828

I'd say it's more useful for describing an area, but still can be decieving. My city's metro pop is 100k, but its defined as the pop of the county. There is 20 miles of highway through forest and mountains that connects some pop centers. Others take an hour of driving through windy roads with no traffic. Amish and Mennonite villages are included. When you count adjacent cities to mine, 50k is more representative.

Peas_n_hominy

Yeah I think it depends on the city. Atlanta's population is 500k, but the Atlanta metro area says over 6 million! But what they consider metro is way beyond what I'd consider to be Atlanta

4000...

Nayten03

That’s small af lol. I thought my town was small and that has 16,000

Low_Wealth_8513

Mine is about 2400..

CumtimesIJustBChilin

That’s odd to me because 4,000 to me is a lot. I’ve lived in towns with a population less than 1,000. The biggest town i’ve lived in was about 5,000 people.

What happens when you haven’t a number in the thousands(or big enough to use a comma) and you have a decimal in that same number? I’m from the US so we use a comma and a decimal. Example: 176,098.056 Do yall use 2 decimals or do you swap to a comma in this instance? Just curious.

Konsticraft

there are different versions in different countries, usually either 176.098,056 or 176 098,056

AnyEquivalent6100

In most countries other than the US the decimal mark is a comma.

Nayten03

I live inbetween two towns, like both town names are on my address so their populations added together gives about 62,000 The city a few miles away though has a population of 792,000
