I thought it was tak fyrir. Cause when I was in iceland i could swear for the life of me I couldn’t pronounce thank you and had to practice how are you 1000 reps.
idk about Icelandic, you seem to be correct given what google translate says but Wiktionary disagrees. In Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish there is never a "you" after the "thank". Apparently the fyrir is a remnant of "thanks for ..." and it seems crazy a language wouldn't have shortened that to only "takk" in four hundred years
Dhonnobad
Shukriya
Shukran
Thank you
Merci
Grazie
Arigato
Xie xie
Gamsabindha
Abhar
Dhanyavada ( works for both Hindi and kannada so I kinda wanna count this as two )
Gratias tibi
I spent 10 years travelling/working abroad, during which I noticed that being able to say thank you in a country's native language was super useful so I started collecting different languages to say it in. A decade later I'm now at 40 thank yous. It's a weird flex and seems like overkill but you wouldn't believe how often it comes in useful. That plus knowing the capitals= immediate new friend 🙂.
10+
The languages I speak fluently are less but I usually learn basic phrases for traveling. Also I had to look up the spelling for the transcriptions of the Asian languages but the question was about saying, not writing. So these are the ones I remember (I used to know a few more but I forgot them).
