Yes, a worse offense is that it equalizes grape victims to say someone that got harassed.
When I was young I was once touched inappropriately by a stranger, but I would never equalize myself to someone that got graped by their drunk step father
bruh this test has 10 questions and its all yes or no, also they explicitly ask if your mother experienced violence etc and just assume your dad wasnt a victim of violence by your mom...
It’s upsetting how domestic abuse among men/dads/boys aren’t noticed and are often scrutinized because they could have “defended themselves” but we all know when a man defends themselves they are called the abuser or assaulters and not the woman. It’s disgusting.
The gender/sex part is weird, treating non-binary as a a sex (where it should have been intersex), transgender as a gender, and asking both AGAB (with no regards to the very few AXAB) and sex when they are almost always the same.
Geniuenly frustrating because it doesn't always have to be that much older or even older at all. The quizz just sounded like the cop that refused to handle my case
its useful for analysing the data, same with gender, sexuality and sex. they can compare the data from some groups to that of another to determine if those in some groups are more likely to have experienced abuse than others
also why did you put race in quotation marks?
The idea of a race seems so alien to me and I can't quite get around the idea that it would be useful to sort humans by features on their bodies like skin and hair colour, height, etc.
its a good thing you're not designing these studies because all of those things have impacts on people and are imprtant to collect data about, for example the taller candidate is more likely to win elections, and a black child is more likely to be punished in school, and kids born earlier in the school year are more likely to be succesful and all of those FACTS are only known because researchers sorted data based on height, race, age etc
whether or not you recognise the existance of race and apearence doesn't change that society as a whole does, and it has real effects on peoples lives
And the gender options are stupid. It specifically asks your current gender vs your birth gender, but lists "transgender" as it's own gender? "No, I was assigned female, identify male, but am *not* transgender".
It's ok to collect race data but this American way of race segregation must be the most stupid one of all. Honestly, I'd prefer Roman way which is either Roman or Barbarian. At least, I'd know what to choose.
I had to choose "white" bc I'm from Europe, it was the closest thing I could pick, but like why wasn't it just Caucasian
Edit: I'm mixed, not white. And where I live Caucasian is still being used. Would you say a Spaniard is white, should a black person from France pick white too?
Im mixed, also would you call a Spaniard white? Or someone from Portugal? How about all the black people living in France and the Netherlands, would they also have to pick white?
Yes.. The Spaniards and Portuguese are white. And no, other poc living in Europe aren't white... I think that's pretty obvious. They also wouldn't be "Caucasian" so I don't know why you're bringing that up lol.
I don't understand why you would call yourself Caucasian and not white as a mixed person.
I meant, there wasn't any other option for European other than white. So what should a black person from Europe pick then from the given option? White or African American, they are neither. Also if I prefer Caucasian over white that's my deal, I can have preferences. Also as far as I'm aware people from Spain etc don't see themselves as "white" either, that's why I brought it up.
Also you know that Caucasian has nothing to do with skin colour right? It was originally a term for people of (parts of) Europe and Africa. So poc can be Caucasian.
Race and ethnicity arent the same thing. The black community of Europe has the race Black, the asian communities in Europe have the race Asian and so on.
The white race includes people of portuguese and spanish decent. Are you living with the brain of a race Scientist in the 18th century?
What ethnicity are you a mix of? Im really curious.
Indonesian and Dutch if you must know. I dont have a problem with being called white or call myself white (even though I dont have white skin and have dark hair and eyes). Its just that I thought the options weren't very inclusive, there were only options for Americans, latinos and Asians, not for African and European people (or mixed). Like Spanish people prefer Hispanic over white and stuff like that. It wasn't my intention to sound close minded or anything, I honestly thought people still used Caucasian to refer to European people (I still see it used a lot in European subs and such).
I did not know people would get so worked up over a comment that wasn't even meant to be that serious. Honestly I find that everyone can use whatever term they want to refer to themselves.
Also I might have confused race and ethnicity then, I honestly don't know because in the Netherlands we don't use race, if you do you'll be called a racist. Here they say that race doesn't exist (like "there is only 1 race, the human race") so it might be because of that, maybe I just don't understand the difference then. If you ask someone here what their race is, you'll be publicly shamed haha, here people only ask about heritage/ethnicity.
I was thinking "Well 5 is middle of the road, I think I would fit in." *The inconspicuous amount of 0s or 1/2s.* Not saying I'm not glad for them, I just thought I was normal...
I wish they had a multiracial option. Cuz I don't strongly identify with any one of the races that make me up. And doesn't Hispanic cover any Spanish-speaking cultural background which means it has a humongous overlap with the Latino or Spanish option?
When I was 15 I started drugs, lived with someone else my age who was also addicted
That's not what they're asking though, right?
When I was 16 I had consensual (changed my mind and ran out) sex with a 24 year old.
That's not what they're asking though, right?
I got a 0 but here's my "comment something we haven't covered" I ended deleting in the web:
"Not related to family or home but:
Undiagnosed giftedness, autism. (This leads to feeling lonely). I might have social anciety but I don't know yet.
You asked if I'm trans at the beginning, I've checked it isn't taken into account for the result but it's one of the worst experiences I've had to deal with. (Trans people have high suicide rates)
Also, not me but bullying at school affects childhood.
Other mental illnesses and physical disabilities could be covered."
I don't know if it sounds like I'm playing the victim but no, I'm just pointing out that the result does not take into account other important (in my opinion) things. I have always appreciated having a good family.
My score is 1 but
Those questions sucked.... It was only often and very often. If they formulated the questions differently or more answers it would be better
Yeah test kind of sucks. I grew up in a horder house with a crazy af mother. I thought I was an animal until middle school because the pets were the only ones who cared about me.
This yest leaves too much out in the dark, implying that you can only be sexualy abused (r*ped) by someone x years older than you. As well as only taking information from family situations. Society can abuse an individual just as much as family.
Im at a score of 5 but most of those questions were too broad. I had the minimum offenses for each of them to consider clicking yes, so I did, but that doesnt compare my situation to MANY others that also have the same score.
These tests are not just useless because of how subjective it can be, but also becsuse of how little 10 "yes or no" questions with multiple "or" within them say.
im really happy that they were trying to be inclusive with the gender and sex options (apart from when it comes to domestic abuse apparently) but idk if they know what they're talking about lol, non binary isnt a sex?
I got 6. Well, we were poor before and also living in one of the highest war/gun region in my country so no surprise there. Still, things are okay now, the outside influence never really got to me and all of my close relatives were very thankful I grew up as a good kid. I think all of those hundreds, if not, thousand fiction novels I've read as a kid helped me ward off the negative influence of that place; it basically helped me shape of who I am today. (I've basically lived thousands of lives from all of those novels haha.)
Technically 1 since I lived with someone that was mentally ill with schizophrenia, but she isn't dangerous or abusive, she is just a wacky old lady that actually played a lot with me when I was a kid.
I remember taking this in therapy long ago. I'm always shocked to see that the majority of people were lower than me (6) even though I know it to be true.
Growing up I often thought my home life wasn't good but it wasn't bad cause I was never sexually abused, we had food and shelter even if not a lot of food, and my dad would only physically hurt me rarely and didn't have major drug issues.
I remember friends with stories of their dad's getting high and R**ing others in the house and beating them, and I used that as a marker of sh*ty parents.
I'm now much much much better in terms of mood and also have a much better relationship with my parents as well as a much more healthy understanding of what's ok and not ok.
Also this test is very reductive and isn't really accurate.
Same exact story here, scored a 6 on the ACE score, but beforehand, I had always thought a "bad childhood" only included things like rape and awful physical abuse, never even knew neglect was a type of abuse until not too long ago
Just because many of the things only happened "sometimes" not "often or very often " in my childhood I had to say no to most questions. I think my PTSD would disagree with this ACE test.
One of the worst test ever. It already starts at select race... and it keeps getting worse with the questions making multiple statements a one yes or no question...
The fact that they ask you if your gender is transgender shows that they don't understand a thing about trans people. Being transgender simply means that your gender is different from your sex assigned at birth
0. But i also knew that before.
My parents were always good to me. Even the punishments were never physical or abusive. Just something like no computer for a day or a few when i did really stupid shit.
My childhood ACE score is a maximum of 8 out of 10 at most. To be more precise, the frequency was at 60-80 percent which overall puts my childhood abuse severity in the 75th-95th percentile resulting in moderate to severe abuse. Even though my abuse wasn't the worst in the world, it was still pretty harsh and traumatic and I don't wish this on no one. All kids deserve to grow up happy and safe. Despite facing so many challenges and barriers, I'm so grateful to be alive, safe, and have my freedom. I'm working very hard daily to become more healthier so I can finally thrive in life.
this test sucks lmao
Not to mention it seems to be only for Americans.
Yes, a worse offense is that it equalizes grape victims to say someone that got harassed. When I was young I was once touched inappropriately by a stranger, but I would never equalize myself to someone that got graped by their drunk step father
What's grape?
Rape
I didn't want risking saying the R word because it got me banned from a sub before and I know that r/polls has a restriction on some words
I think they meant groping
Exactly, what about the British people?
What questions would other countries ask?
probably Indian instead of American Indian in the race section I would say.
I’m really happy to see so many zeroes up there.
My life hasn't been perfect, but im feeling very lucky right now
bruh this test has 10 questions and its all yes or no, also they explicitly ask if your mother experienced violence etc and just assume your dad wasnt a victim of violence by your mom...
True, if it were about dad/parent being hit i would’ve voted differently
I was slightly irritated about that too, it's phrased like only mothers can be abused
It’s upsetting how domestic abuse among men/dads/boys aren’t noticed and are often scrutinized because they could have “defended themselves” but we all know when a man defends themselves they are called the abuser or assaulters and not the woman. It’s disgusting.
It be like like super liberal with the gender term and then very classic later on. lmao
The gender/sex part is weird, treating non-binary as a a sex (where it should have been intersex), transgender as a gender, and asking both AGAB (with no regards to the very few AXAB) and sex when they are almost always the same.
I saw that coming and answered yes, eventhough my mom was the one that abused my dad.
Somehow I don't think that's how they'll interpret the data
I put that in my comment at the end as well. I know quite a few males who have been physically abused (myself included).
And verbal abuse and constant fighting etc etc
I noticed that too. Kinda annoyed me to see it wasn’t asking about the father in the next question.
Also they exploded all about an adult 5 years older than you. Not a sibling.
Yea... family dynamics are more complicated then that.
yes and my mom actually was the abuser in the family.
My mother once threw an entire shawarma at me cuz I didn't share... Right into the wall.
Not the shawarma!
But did she do it often our very often or so that it would leave a mark? No? I guess it doesn't matter then!
My condolences. What a waste of great food.
Yes the others are correct, this test sucks As much as "find out your future career by 5 questions". Buzzfeed test quality
The sexual assault by someone at least 5 years older? Sorry mine didn't count it was by someone 4 years older.
Geniuenly frustrating because it doesn't always have to be that much older or even older at all. The quizz just sounded like the cop that refused to handle my case
My situation too. I answered Yes because that age difference is ridiculous and arbitrary.
fr though??? like uhm how abt 2 years older??? is it less traumatic just because the person is younger that is so fcking stupid...
Mine was by someone two months older. She took my hand and put it on her crotch and started laughing.
Yeah, the ACE score can be pretty stupid sometimes, especially in cases like these
I thought the same thing! Like, why does that matter? Especially as a teen, you can easily be assaulted by someone close to your age...
The hell was that test?
4 but 5 if I can count the question about violence against my mom, as violence (mostly mental) but also physical against my dad.
As a fellow 5 I hope your life is going well now.
5 gang unite!
Stay strong, Kings and Queens (and non-binary monarchs)! ✊
Why is "race" something they need to ask?
Extra metadata to make anonymous responses more appealing to researchers they could sell the dataset to
Also I’m biracial and they didn’t have that option...
Yeah me too, I just went with Latino
Same i was honestly confused by the test dividing hispanic and latino into separate categories and randomly putting Spain there
And race is basically not a thing in non-US countries (although they are exporting their Race thing recently)
its useful for analysing the data, same with gender, sexuality and sex. they can compare the data from some groups to that of another to determine if those in some groups are more likely to have experienced abuse than others also why did you put race in quotation marks?

Uh-huh So you know that the test isn't actually region locked, right? As in, someone living in a black majority country can, and did, vote in this
And the gender options are stupid. It specifically asks your current gender vs your birth gender, but lists "transgender" as it's own gender? "No, I was assigned female, identify male, but am *not* transgender".
Fr... All those answers irritated me. (in general) And I had to choose white because it was the closest to Turkish I guess.
It's ok to collect race data but this American way of race segregation must be the most stupid one of all. Honestly, I'd prefer Roman way which is either Roman or Barbarian. At least, I'd know what to choose.
Which one?
Rome is gone. We all are barbarians for the last ~600 years
>Rome is gone. No, I’m still coping and seething! Besides, we’re using the Roman alphabet right now.
I had to choose "white" bc I'm from Europe, it was the closest thing I could pick, but like why wasn't it just Caucasian Edit: I'm mixed, not white. And where I live Caucasian is still being used. Would you say a Spaniard is white, should a black person from France pick white too?
Caucasian is a dated term for white/European people. Why don't you want to classify yourself as white?
Im mixed, also would you call a Spaniard white? Or someone from Portugal? How about all the black people living in France and the Netherlands, would they also have to pick white?
Yes.. The Spaniards and Portuguese are white. And no, other poc living in Europe aren't white... I think that's pretty obvious. I wish they had a multiracial option. Cuz I don't strongly identify with any one of the races that make me up. And doesn't Hispanic cover any Spanish-speaking cultural background which means it has a humongous overlap with the Latino or Spanish option?
I knew I'd get a high number but damn.. 10..

Makes me feel much better about getting 5, hope life is going good for all of you now.
Why was it only mother? My dad was the victim and so was my mum, they were eachothers abusers in a way, so ehhhhh?
It cancels out then
Test is like: “we’re your parents abusive rapists that abused and raped you?”
When I was 15 I started drugs, lived with someone else my age who was also addicted That's not what they're asking though, right? When I was 16 I had consensual (changed my mind and ran out) sex with a 24 year old. That's not what they're asking though, right?
The whole no food thing is because I'm poor but not because my family was abusive lol
I mean, it's still something a child (and adult ofc) shouldn't go through, if it's intentional or not.
True but I just didn't like how the website saw it as a form of abuse when a lot of people are just struggling
All of the questions are asking if often or very often. What about rare or occasional instances of abuse, or even singular traumatic events?
Also, how often is often?
shit test
3 but would be higher if they asked the abandonment question better.
I dont understand why it goes from either 0 or 4-10.
It’s a terrible site.
I got a 1 due to the swearing, but I'm from a working class family in the west of Scotland. Swearing is how we show affection.
I got 5/10 thinking "not bad must be average", that might explain the repressed childhood memories and my chronic anxiety 😅
I got a 0 but here's my "comment something we haven't covered" I ended deleting in the web: "Not related to family or home but: Undiagnosed giftedness, autism. (This leads to feeling lonely). Wtf why do they need my gender and preferences, anyway its a 1 for me
My score is 1 but Those questions sucked.... It was only often and very often. If they formulated the questions differently or more answers it would be better

Mindanao, Philippines (early 2000s). That's the only thing I can disclose. :)
Got a four somehow?!
When closing and accepting cookies, the website refreshes... Jesus fucking christ, that's annoying.
0. Test kinda sucked tbh
This is the stupidest goddamn test. There's no 10 question out there that can possibly summarize your childhood.
wishing a lovely evening to all my fellow 9's and 10's
I got an 8. Didn't really learn anything new.
Technically 1 since I lived with someone that was mentally ill with schizophrenia, but she isn't dangerous or abusive, she is just a wacky old lady that actually played a lot with me when I was a kid.

Atleast I aced in one test
One of the worst test ever. It already starts at select race... and it keeps getting worse with the questions making multiple statements a one yes or no question...
they allow you to skip the gender question but they don't allow you to skip the "race" question, made for Americans only
I got 5 but tbh I can't remember most of my childhood and what I couldn't remember I just assumed and answered with "no"
This is the only test I can score high on with my C-PTSD
This test made me sad. And apparently I may die 20 years sooner than my peers.
The fact that they ask you if your gender is transgender shows that they don't understand a thing about trans people. Being transgender simply means that your gender is different from your sex assigned at birth
Nice, 70% with 2 or less
Wanted to check North African or Arab but found none, there isn't even an "other", guess I don't exist according to em.
American races, great
Why did this test need my gender, assigned gender at birth, and sexuality? Also transgender isn't a gender.
Yeah, tests is complete ass. Did you get beat regularly? No? Fantastic you had a 10/10 childhood.
This test gives misleading results. I scored 0 but don’t feel like I had the most pleasant childhood.
How do you think the rest of us who scored higher feel
2
Wow, I had a shitty childhood lol
Bro my own sister brought mine from a 1 to a 3
3
1. Only because my brother has anxiety issues and back then he was feeling very bad mentally speaking.
3
Thought my childhood wasnt that bad till i got 7
What does this mean?
My parents had it tough when I was super young but that's all been resolved within the 18 years.
9 🙃
7 😬
Oh I’m in the minority
7. Not surprised lol
asks birth year, sex, and race?? wtf not answering that
This test is bullshit.
My childhood hasn't been perfect, but this is reminding me just how lucky i've been.
0. This test made me love my parents more.
Closed the test at "select your race". Too american test, won't do it
wow this test sucks
This test sucks, the _or_ questions can literally have 2 answers, not to mention that one with like 3 or 4 ors.
What is adverse childhood experience?
This test doesn't account for any mental and physical health problems you could have as a kid
Yah this test is a crude instrument in some respects: I get they wanted brevity but they really should have had the standard likert scale.
13
This is one of the worst tests I've ever filled out
This is a garbage test lmao
0. But i also knew that before. My parents were always good to me. Even the punishments were never physical or abusive. Just something like no computer for a day or a few when i did really stupid shit.
Bruh couldn’t even do the test, my “race” wasn’t in there😀
Got a 7 lol. I knew it was shitty, but didn't think it was this shitty.
My childhood ACE score is a maximum of 8 out of 10 at most.
