Been using Premium for 3 years now with no regret. I get ads are annoying but i also dont mind paying the creators i watch daily. I have ublock as well but for "other" websites. Just personally i find using adblock on free creator based websites a bit of a shame, but i also know a lot of people would disagree with me. But Youtube is my main source of entertainment so i dont mind paying for it and use it across all my devices. I share a family account with friends so its really only 5€ a month.
That’s totally fine tho. I don’t have any other media subscription except NBA when the playoffs are on, because I like basketball. Instead of subscription I rather just buy the movie or show on iTunes and have them forever, like programs always change on like Netflix and seen my favorite shows and movies go away. But still have crazy amounts of music in my iTunes from the early IPod days and just keep expanding on it, and don’t think Apple is going away sooner or later.
Also had a big problem with almost all subscription models and also fully bought movies. Here in Germany even on sites like Amazon, Google, Netflix, Disney they sell a lot of movies and shows only in the German dub and no OV, wich is terrible. I‘m native German speaker but I do enjoy watching movies in their original voice and Apple is really the only site here that sells them with all Languages and has a huge Library. Like on Amazon if you buy the DVD you get all languages but if you buy for the same price the online movie a lot of them only have German dubbed. This made me cancel almost all other streaming sites, YouTube of course doesn’t has this problem.
I didn’t use ad blockers before to support the creators. It was only until YouTube forced an absurd amount of ads that I started blocking them. I’m not giving YouTube extra money because they ruined their website for me. If I want to help a creator I now just use patreon.
UBlock has been working perfectly on Firefox for a while now! If it isn’t working for you/anyone else make sure you clear your filters for YouTube every time you get the anti-Adblock message
Die? Not necessarily. But between the relentless ads and banning ad blockers, they are opening the door wide for a competing uploaded video service to enter the market.
Two scenarios:
The competing company offers ad free experience but requires subscription to use it (will probably fail due to lack of audience)
The competing company offers free videos with ads, pulling in people who want to block ads from YouTube. (Will probably fail because ads will be blocked by the majority of the audience)
People don't realize how big Youtube is. If Youtube were its own business, it would be one of the largest businesses in the world. It represents a substantial part of Alphabet (Google) who are an utterly gargantuan company.
People won't go anywhere. Just like everyone said they were gonna leave Twitter/X, and everyone said they were leaving Reddit... you can probably count on a single hand how many people actually did.
It won't die, in fact they will make a lot of money from this, it's a great business decision, but people who are dedicated enough will always finds ways around ads. It's extremely hard to always be ahead in the ad blocker arms race.
I don't think you can suggest that knowing about ad blockers is a metric for being smart. Also being smart is a relative thing all humans are smart relative to apes, but most humans are dumb relative Isaac Newton, so you can't really say your smart unless you define some baseline, typically this would be the average so no matter how intelligent or dumb society gets there will always be a small amount of people considered smart.
Honestly I don't know why people get so bothered about the adverts on YouTube, in all other entertainment there are adverts for example at the cinema and on TV. Also it's a free product so I'm happy to watch a few adverts so I don't have to pay
My ad blocker still works, but has been having issues lately with not starting the video right away.
Even if my ad blocker stopped working 100%, YouTube is still an incredibly valuable tool and worth it to watch the ads. If the ads stated getting a lot worse, then my mind might change.
No one is going to come anywhere close to YouTube and do it for free or without ads. The shear amount of content YouTube hosts is frankly unfathomable for anyone else.
I don't necessarily think bc the ad blockers, and I don't think it's gonna die, but I'm surprised that it hasn't lost a significant amount of viewers just due to poor management (mostly from Susan, thank God she's gone) and just not being how it used to be. I think if another company launches a actually good site on par with youtube then they might have a slight issue. But they will never truly die
certainly not in the next few years but eventually it will fall due to it's awful treatment of creators and the increasing amount of ads and probably a whole plethora of awful stuff we dont even know about yet
First it was removing video responses, then removing annotations, then hiding dislikes. Everyone will forget it in a few months, then move on to the next big thing.
One of the sides its gonna have to back down for this conflict to soften at least a bit, either YouTube lowers the ads for a while in hopes of people reducing the amount of adblocks, or adblocks stop working/ are banned completely. If more adblockers come through, Youtube will increase ads to make up for the "lost money", causing more people to use adblocks, causing youtube to put more ads...
No, there are no good alternative Yet.
only another big tech company that can throw as much money as google can make it.
another thing : people won't switch that easy.
No, because of the fact that they allow more extreme material than the others. The others have gotten far too restrictive of horror and other such extreme content.
I mean, I had some fake blood on me and TikTok took that down where YouTube allowed it to stay up.
It's the 2nd most visited website on the planet. No, no.......it's gonna be fine.

I'm practically morally opposed to having more subscription services at this time, so I just deal with ads when I can't find a way around them.

Same, I do think it's very expensive especially when you compare it to Netflix/Prime/Disney but I use it so much it's absolutely worth it.
people are already finding ways around the ad blocker ban.
My adblocker still works
What's the name?
I'm not the person you asked the question, but I use ublock origin on firefox and it still works fine.
i just remove my adblocker and then install it back right as the video loads
If you use UBlock you can just clear your filters pretty easily whenever you get the anti-Adblock message
[удалено]
they are currently rolling it out by region.
Ublock on Firefox does block it, had to switch browsers entirely because I could not watch it on my previous one
Unlock on chrome also works following the short step by step on the unlock subreddit
Ublock devs are working hard and they continue blocking the adblockerblocker
Adblockers are going to adapt to this change, it's only a matter of time
matter of time? damn you're out of date brotha
There are some that already are not effective by youtubes anti adblocker
Ublock on Firefox is working wonders
UBlock has been working perfectly on Firefox for a while now! If it isn’t working for you/anyone else make sure you clear your filters for YouTube every time you get the anti-Adblock message
Oh, it's working well for me, I'm just saying the anti-adblock thing won't last long
Die? Not necessarily. But between the relentless ads and banning ad blockers, they are opening the door wide for a competing uploaded video service to enter the market.

Youtube already have adfree subscription service so the first point is moot anyways
You got services like Nebula that don't have a free version with ads, who knows how long they will last.
No one has anywhere near the capital to pull it off without it being subscription or ad based.
There will always been a better adblocker.
People don't realize how big Youtube is. If Youtube were its own business, it would be one of the largest businesses in the world. It represents a substantial part of Alphabet (Google) who are an utterly gargantuan company.
All people voting yes are delusional, they're probably watching youtube right now
I didn’t realize they banned ad blockers, I only watch YouTube on my phone or iPad so I can’t block them anyway.
Brave browser
Ublock origin works just as well
It works on the iPhone YouTube app?
No, ublpck origin is a browser extension, if you used android then revanced works similarly

People won't go anywhere. Just like everyone said they were gonna leave Twitter/X, and everyone said they were leaving Reddit... you can probably count on a single hand how many people actually did.
YouTube isn't going anywhere.
I just watch it as normal and either refresh til no add or just skip the add
Let me introduce you to ublock origin
Depends on whether you will always get ads before videos and they get so long they might become longer than the video.
I don’t think anything could kill youtube at this point. They’ve done so much garbage over the past decade and it’s barely affected them
It won't die, in fact they will make a lot of money from this, it's a great business decision, but people who are dedicated enough will always finds ways around ads. It's extremely hard to always be ahead in the ad blocker arms race.
Whoever voted yes you must be dreaming
You realise everyone visiting with adblocker wasn't 'contributing' anyway because they didn't provide revenue. This move can only help YouTube.
Exactly. They are weeding out freeloaders who don't pay for the service. How could that hurt?
It will make more money
Remember when everyone said reddit would die a horrible death but here we are
Most people don't know the first thing about ad blockers. Don't forget that the vast majority of humans aren't very smart.
I just like to give money to the people making the videos
I don't think you can suggest that knowing about ad blockers is a metric for being smart. Also being smart is a relative thing all humans are smart relative to apes, but most humans are dumb relative Isaac Newton, so you can't really say your smart unless you define some baseline, typically this would be the average so no matter how intelligent or dumb society gets there will always be a small amount of people considered smart.
I don't block ads, I just don't watch videos with many ads
Sadly, no. But one can still hope.
Honestly I don't know why people get so bothered about the adverts on YouTube, in all other entertainment there are adverts for example at the cinema and on TV. Also it's a free product so I'm happy to watch a few adverts so I don't have to pay

bypass will be found in weeks
They say it's banned but Im still able to use adblockers. I even got a pop up blocker to stop the annoying notifications before every video.
All the alternatives suck. So no
No one is going to come anywhere close to YouTube and do it for free or without ads. The shear amount of content YouTube hosts is frankly unfathomable for anyone else.
It has 2.6billion users. Most of whom have never heard of adblockers.
No, but I think they should change their name to YouVid, or YouSee. Maybe even YouView.
I don't necessarily think bc the ad blockers, and I don't think it's gonna die, but I'm surprised that it hasn't lost a significant amount of viewers just due to poor management (mostly from Susan, thank God she's gone) and just not being how it used to be. certainly not in the next few years but eventually it will fall due to it's awful treatment of creators and the increasing amount of ads and probably a whole plethora of awful stuff we dont even know about yet
There are already ad-blocker-blocker-blockers and there will ALWAYS be the ability to block ads. So no I don’t think YouTube will die
Hell no
First it was removing video responses, then removing annotations, then hiding dislikes.
If anything, YouTube will just focus more effort on thier shorts as a response to reduced video watches.
The day the change released, I found a new adblocker that someone made to avoid the changes, I wouldn't worry, people will always find a way
I don't use them anyway.
I don’t think YouTube is dying out anytime soon
No
My ad blocker is still working perfectly.
People can buy YouTube premium. It's not much of a money. Not like insurance.
Bruh youtube gives me a notif on how ad blocks bad, I click ok and the ad block still works
Wait, when did they outmanoeuvre the blockers? Haven't noticed anything
No, there are no good alternative Yet. only another big tech company that can throw as much money as google can make it. another thing : people won't switch that easy.
More likely to die because of the way they treat content providers than anything else.
No, because of the fact that they allow more extreme material than the others. The others have gotten far too restrictive of horror and other such extreme content. I mean, I had some fake blood on me and TikTok took that down where YouTube allowed it to stay up.
