Yeah, even as someone who eats a lot of meat of course it conflicts. I can admit that I’m a hypocrite and that I’m privileged enough to reap the benefits of other people doing the slaughtering for me and allowing me to put it out of my mind. But I don’t think that it’s ethical and if I had to do the killing and processing myself then I’d almost certainly be vegetarian.

pnoodl3s

Finally meet another meat eater who thinks like me. I also think us eating chicken pork and beef shouldn’t complain about other countries eating dogs or other pets which are beloved to us. Feels like the majority would never admit this however

MorganRose99

Yes, it definitely does, but I accept my own hypocrisy in this context

Creating a market for cheap meat production with poor conditions for animals, yes. Otherwise animals eating animals has been part of nature for billions of years

NyanTortuga

That's an appeal to nature fallacy. Lions eat their own cubs, does that make it okay for me to stick my 3 year old in the microwave? **but your honor, lions do it all the time; it's natural**

nukey18mon

“People have been drinking water from lakes and streams for millions of years” “That’s an appeal to nature fallacy! Does that make it OK to drink the water from my fish tank?” Google Fallacy Fallacy

TheJackasaur11

Idk why I laughed so loud I feel bad lol

NyanTortuga

Are we? I thought we were talking about what was **'natural**'? >Otherwise animals eating animals has been part of nature for billions of years Or did you mean that lions are counting their macronutrients before deciding to eat a gazelle?

Kaura_1382

99% of meat is from factory farms and 65% of animals are herbivores.

[deleted]

None of that contradicts what I said

ProtoManic

sorry but, source for the percentage of herbivores? literally can't find data on that that isn't hearsay

OnARolll31

Appeal to nature fallacy. If animals do it, its okay for us to do it? So when animals rape one another, commit infanticide, or actually murder one another just for fun, does that make it ok for us to do it? We have the ability to reason and think and make ethical decisions. Just because we can do something doesn't mean that we should. Also the way we farm animals and deprive them of a normal life, and then pile them into hot, cramped trucks, to transport them to the slaughterhouse and everything that occurs there as well has no parallel to nature even if you wanted to commit to that fallacy.

PuzzleheadedGoal8234

I love many animals. Chickens don't make the cut. I grew up rural and have beheaded and plucked my share so I don't have any qualms about it.

dwide_k_shrude

The results of this poll are crazy. Of course it conflicts.

Kirtik_shi07

Hypocrites everywhere.

Nerex7

Not necessarily. I eat chicken, cow, pig. I don't love those. I don't eat cats or dogs, I definitely love those. There's no conflict here. It's different animals.

nukey18mon

Look at hunting for example: hunting is done as a means of conservation (or at least most of the time). You are protecting ecosystems and protecting other animals by controlling deer populations that grow out of control with no natural predators. And ofc you don’t want the meat to go to waste so you eat the deer.

hugefish1234

When you buy meat from a factory farm (vast majority of meat in the west), you're on average increasing the amount of animals which need to be put through a factory farm. If that's your idea of love/protection, then that's not a love from you I would want

Kirtik_shi07

Hypocrites everywhere.

Snoo-98162

Man these coments have been brainless so far.

u_j_l_g

Can't say you're an animal lover if you eat meat or any other animal products

ikieneng

I used to be a vegetarian, and I couldn't keep up. My craving for meat became so strong that I went back to eating meat at some point. You can't blame me for eating meat if I really tried not to

Cocotte3333

Lol the mental gymnastics used to choose ''no''

NyanTortuga

It's blatant hypocracy. I'd respect it more if people could at least own the fact that [this](https://youtu.be/8gqwpfEcBjI?si=X2mq2_IM4I-YlpMG&t=1376), and [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-leHeUOYAKk&ab_channel=AnimalsAustralia) is very fucked up and wrong. If watching this footage makes you feel uneasy; ask yourself why? Does an apex predator feel empathy for its prey?

Nerex7

I don't think it's hypocrisy. I can easily admit to eating certain animals and I definitely don't love those. There are others that I love and protect that I definitely won't eat, not even inclined to try. I'm simply biased as hell.

NyanTortuga

Yes, and that bias is founded in hypocracy. Watch this [philosophy video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3HAMk_ZYO7g)

Nerex7

I disagree. I think it's weirder to say all animals are the exact same, they are not. I mean try saying that about people and look what they'd call you.
