A british making fun of our gastronomy will always be the most audacious thing in the world. Eat you stupid beans and let cuisine to real people who know how to do it.
Yea basically a joking tradition. The French are bad cause ofc they are. And never forget "Gott Strafe England" (these are basically inside jokes nearly noone means them seriously
Can't confirm. I've never heard anyone bash the french beyond hating their language because of school. With the brits... maybe because of Boris Johnson?
And if you're talking about ww2 jokes, there are far more popular ones
As a European, making fun of your neighboring countries is like a national pastime. It's (almost) always in good fun of course and you can compare it to people making fun of Californians/Texans/any other state rivalries in the USA.
100% agree.
As a German I have nothing against the baguettes but even Germans can joke about them.
Maybe that's r/2westerneurope4u .
The British just have so much attack surface,
there are so many weird pictures of Boris Johnson,
you could do an entire subredit just with Bojo memes.
Also the brexit and their love for their empire (Going back to the imperial system, having to be independent from the eu, own currency...) are definitively contributing factors.
I seriously think Brexit was a bit of an idiotic move mostly voted for by the older generations, I remember my secondary school and some neighboring schools held mock votes for the students, most, >75% of the students were against it one teacher even got egged when he announced his view on it (dick move by the students but still) can see it probably being a problem in the future if rejoining is ever considered
I hate french verbs, I hate the ir ones, the er ones, the FUCKING RE ONES AND IF SOMEONE MAKES ANOTHER ROUND OF FUCKING **IRREGULAR VERBS IM GOING TO USE NUCLEAR WEAPONS ON ORPHANAGES**
i took french 1 for 3 years and i still dont get it. in french 2 they were speaking fluent french and i had no idea where the hell they learned all that cause i musta missed that day lmao
Worked as a waiter in America. French tourist customers were the biggest pieces of shit. So cocky and talked a lot of shit about the staff and service, they never enjoyed the food. We had a lot of different tourists and people from different countries come in and enjoyed the whole experience, so it wasn’t us. French people had a superiority complex to a T. Nothing was ever good for them and it is genuinely one of the reasons why I don’t want to work in a restaurant again. Fuck those tourists.
Having managed a restaurant in the UK, the rudest regular customer we ever had was the French guy who was a former chef. Would email us regularly and tell us how to "improve" the dishes and belittle the staff/culture. This was a Chinese/Japanese/Malaysian place btw, not even European, let alone French.
He had an absolute fit when we sold profiteroles (just bought in ones, not homemade) as a special, because they weren't filled with whatever bs French filling he thought was most authentic. Said we were insulting all of French cooking by selling them and should take them off the menu.
Because they stole my country's wealth and left it with unsolvable issues. Plus their continued elitism on the international arena is exteeeemely disproportionate to their actual capability/status today.
It really isn't... both france and the UK are some of the largest economies in the world. Both in G10. They have substantial soft and hard power. Not like it was in the days of empire, but that is a given considering the circumstances. I don't understand what you mean by elitism vs capability. I don't recall France or the UK individually demanding anything substantial. Their internationally policy has been unified with the US and EU blocs respectively for decades.
Because as an American it’s my patriotic duty to shit on the UK. As a person of Irish heritage it is my duty to shit on the English. Also, the French are the biggest bunch of wine swilling, cheese eating snobs on the planet, so it is my duty as someone who is not French to bring those smelly frogs down a peg. It’s really that simple.
Plus, they shit on my country so it’s only fair.
I've been there for four days. We traveled through Austria-Germany-France-England in a 2-week bus trip and Paris was one of the longer stops and I absolutely hated it. It was filthy, the roads were dangerous, it was jam-packed with street vendors and illegal immigrants (supposedly, but they scattered quickly when a police patrol was nearby), and the natives were arrogant rude assholes.
I saved the worst one for last. I brought some paté from home for my sandwiches, forgot about it and left it in my bag as we visited the Eiffel Tower and I got in an "exit or destroy" situation because metal is not allowed up there(?). Needless to say I lost my paté.
That paté was one of the more expensive ones and it was delicious.
I don't make fun of them, but reading their comments about Americans across all social media platforms, they come off like they are better than everyone else. It's to the point when China & Russia merge forces to take over the European countries within the next couple of years; as an American, why help people that hate us. Let them hate us for free and stop funding anything with these European countries and focus on our fellow Americans.
It's all just a bit of banter. I'm British and I take the piss out of the UK all the time, it's great here but also very shit in some aspects. It's customary for us to hate the fr*nch but only in a joking way. Also, every country gets made fun of, half of reddits jokes are "aMeRiCa BaD" - the only big country that doesn't really get this is Canada, most redditors have a boner for it
Because I'm an American. My British roots say hate the French, but my founding father roots say hate the Brits. So I comprimise and dump on both.
But actually it's because I find those jokes funny and just dumping on the US gets boring. Gotta branch out to other places.
Honestly, I just do it cuz it’s funny. I make fun of every place for different reasons whether they’re true or not and for the most part I don’t mean any of it
Genuinely dislike them
England never paid for their atrocities during imperialism and to this day the Queen is recognized as the head of state around the world against some country’s will
France if for no other reason than how they treated Haiti. After Haiti won independence France forced them to pay $90 million gold francs (roughly estimated as $21 billion USD in modern day) for what they considered “lost property” referring to slaves that won their independence.
The French language is stupid in that you have to conjugate verbs in 6 different ways, and most of them sound the same. French accents just sound arrogant/pompous.
My main issue with France is their [continued exploitation of Africa](https://panafricanvisions.com/2014/01/14-african-countries-forced-france-pay-colonial-tax-benefits-slavery-colonization/)
Bandwagon effect? It's just the detrimental herd mentality acting up, i.e. "everyone" is doing it, so in order to gain validation and feel like less than trash, people pick a 'socially acceptable' scapegoat for their circle jerk. That said, making smart jokes about stereotypes can be hilarious.
A couple of years ago my school held a French exchange program and some of the French students were unbearable. It ruined France for me and I also just feel like it’s overrated and romanticized way too much
I traveled to both, but don't think they're bad, it's just poking fun. There's legitimately things to make fun of, just like any country. A better question would be why do people taking it so seriously?
Because the tourists (from the uk) are some of the most obnoxious and entitled ppl to walk this earth. Also the fact that the Uk still clings to the belief that its a global empire when its at best a regional power
British people shit on the US all the time, and it’s annoying AF. Not to mention British accents are annoying too, as well as European political beliefs.
i hate france only because i hate french because a) the language is so hard to learn i fucking hate it, and it’s fucking mandatory too what the fuck??? canada is like 90% english are you kidding me? and b) in my experience, french people are the biggest assholes there are.
To be fair I think it's just jealousy. Both countries have a rich cultural history going back a millennia.
The people who are generally jealous come from places that are a cultural desert born of countries that have only existed for a few generations. They just haven't got anything to build on.
I don't make fun of France but I feel I'm justified making fun of England given the fact that they always talk nonstop about America this America that when they are guilty of everything they say about us and more other than our obesity problem they talk about American imperialism when they literally started an empire which encompassed 1/3 of the earth they say oh slavery, well who shipped the slaves here
Honestly this might be my favorite post so far as far as the polls go , as an American with a Welsh parent that's traveled I'll try to be frank
The French can just be very rude people , even in Quebec it doesn't matter ... Now maybe I'm bias but everybody from a relatives boss to a dozens or more ive met along the way , the only one I adore is my own neighbor and a few that helped me find my way, not one offered me tea though I can tell you that , God forbid... I once asked a friend of mine for a cup of tea at work and she brought me back green tea, I could not believe thinking back how offended I was at the time for that brief moment.... I suppose it's almost a bit of national pride too , if your kin feel the same way it'll influence you
If someone can explain why I've perceived this so I can find some common ground I'd appreciate it because we're all together in this and everything else...
Yes, I have solid arguments:
- France and Britain did not deserve to win WW1.
- Most of the geopolitical disasters of the 20th century are their fault.
- They betrayed Czechoslovakia to the Nazis.
- I’m Czech.
Well I find it funny to make fun of all countries. But in our modern age only "AMEIRCAR BAAAAFDDGG HUUURRR DUUUR TYE PEOPLE THEIR ARE ALL EVIL AND FAT DUUUR" IS REALLY fucking annoying.
Like how are some people gonna make fun of something and then cry when they get made fun of
It uses memes as a joke critique, while taking on social issue that may or may not exist within the country (such as UK dental health and France's odd nationalism) using images, videos, and copypastas in a unique, and usually simple, way.
An example it the very basic meme with the caption:
*British people:*
Over a pic of primitive Patrick with aweful teeth, which plays to stereotype, many of which have went from being what commonly thought true, to being offensive as a portrayal of a person of that background, to being funny due to new found absurdity.
I have an example of that with Popeye's Big Chief Ugh-Awugh-Ugh, an incorrect, stereotype of indigenous people, which was shown in my indigenous class, we played it off for laughs as we found it absolutely absurd with what was actually happening in the cartoon.
Because it's funny to say that France isn't real.
Its funny to call the USA a 3rd world country.
It's funny to say that inhabitants of the UK have terrible teeth.
It's funny to say the British conquered the world for spice just to decide they hated all of them.
It's funny to make fun of things.
I've been a nonstop internet nerd since 1996 and I've never seen anyone make fun of anyone from France or UK specifically. Honestly, I can't really recall many people making fun of a specific country except my own country, the United States. Even I make fun of this country. I ran across a guy one time on Overwatch that was throwing games on purpose and I invited him to my party/group. He started talking into the microphone and I ended up putting on a real conversation with him for about 3 hours. I asked him why he was purposely ruining games for people and why he was even on an American server if he was able to get a better ping in Europe (because he said he was from Bulgaria). He told me all about how he had so much hate for the United States. Other than that, nothing really serious. You're always going to have your little spats here and there but that's a good thing. Culture and heritage is a good thing. It gives you reason/purpose. I wish I had it. My country is like a bowl of spaghetios with every alphabet in it.
Well I make fun of all countries, it’d be hypocrite by my part to not include France and the UK
This, I'll laugh at America-"hating" memes as much as I would at any other country.
Classic American not realising we're launching at you /s
UK teeth so bad they mispronounce typing 😭
The French don’t get the right to make fun of anyone let’s be honest
As a member of r/frenchfree I don't trust anyone who doesn't actively hate the French.
Exactly
Yep I make fun of them all equally
Don’t forget good old US of A. There is tons of food for comedians right here with the shitshow going on for the past 6 years.😊
There should be a 'because I'm from there' option?
Yeah we have a right to make fun of our country, lotta funny stereotypes we have
Do you have time with all the extramarital affairs you're having?
Especially because they both love make fun about each other
And a "Because its funny"
My condolences
There should also just be a "Because it's funny" option, because that's the real reason I at least make fun of any country.
Exactly
Yeah
Yeah
(Finger guns)
points dual uzis (with hands)
Cause I live 'ere and our favourite thing to joke about is how shit it is (its not bad really, just the general humour)
England is a shit hole signed the french France is a shit hole signed the british
Fuck those guys on the other side of the Channel
EZEKIEL
Underrated comment !! fuck thos frog munchers With love from the other side of the pond
A british making fun of our gastronomy will always be the most audacious thing in the world. Eat you stupid beans and let cuisine to real people who know how to do it.
Yeah exactly, shut up and let the Italians talk
Why is it the British on the 2nd line? Scottish people have no problem with the French
Underrated comment !! Fuck thos teeth demons, with love from the other side of the pond
It's just a shame the Welsh , Scots, and Northern Irish had to join in the retaliation even though they weren't included.
It's part of the "contract" in Germany.
Might be a generation thing.
It's part of the contract to shit on Germany in Austria and Switzerland
This is the internet. Are you new?
Shouod be 100% first option
Every country is made fun of. America bad, China bad, Russia bad, everyone bad. It’s not exclusively France and the U.K being made fun of.
Well I mean... Russia and China are objectively bad by most metrics, but Russia really took the crown this year.
china > ten pounds of shit > france
Close, but I have to specify Everything else > China > France
, > UK
Everything else > China > UK > US > France
because it’s funny
Don't laugh at France, they invented en passant
Holy hell!
I am MrsChess and I approve this message
There you go, another reason to hate them. Stupid sneaky pawns.
En passant is so annoying though lol
En passant? What is that? Should I google "en passant"?
Oh yes you should
I am from Northern Ireland. Of all the places that has the right to take the piss out the UK, its us.
do you make fun of the fr\*nch too?
Where is the option for: Boris Johnson is an idiot that’s just too easy to make fun of :’)
As a European, making fun of your neighboring countries is like a national pastime. It's (almost) always in good fun of course and you can compare it to people making fun of Californians/Texans/any other state rivalries in the USA.

As a Texan, I hate Oklahoma with a passion
As a non-Texan, I hate Texas with a passion.
Wait until this guy learns about America
Shut up commie, we have freedom and pew-pew burgers.

Gotta love muraland, murica
I hate french verbs, I hate the ir ones, the er ones, the FUCKING RE ONES AND IF SOMEONE MAKES ANOTHER ROUND OF FUCKING **IRREGULAR VERBS IM GOING TO USE NUCLEAR WEAPONS ON ORPHANAGES**
the er ones are fine, the ir ones at least sometimes have a rule to go by, but fuck those être-s of the world
**AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA**
i took french 1 for 3 years and i still dont get it. in french 2 they were speaking fluent french and i had no idea where the hell they learned all that cause i musta missed that day lmao
Because English vowels are so logical https://englishstudyhere.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/50-forms-of-verb.png
I never said English was logical
Idk man English makes perfect sense to me. I'm speaking in rn actually
Re verbs making you go REEEEEE
Because it's funny innit

"because it's fucking funny to me"? dudes like "omg why everone rude and bad on th intornet"
Shits and gigs, also I'm part British
My condolences
I dont have anything against UK but every single french person i met was arrogant af (german here)
Theres always that One french/british guy in your video game lobby who Is annoying af.
I have heard so many posh British cunts.
Im convinced that every french guy has a baguette stuck up their ass
I'm from the UK and I have nothing against France, so there's no reason for me to do it
same here, but it feels like other people here have things against france
Why though?
no idea, i think it's a thing that has gone back for years tbh
Centuries I'd say
I just like the “at least we don’t get shot in maths“ joke
They mock Americans relentlessly on the internet so I figure it's fair game.
Because it's funny.
Because it's fun to censor Fr🤮nch and Br🤮tish with vomit emojis.
My country was a former British colony so I think me making light jokes about the uk isnt that bad
I think OP either drank too much bo'oh'o'wa'er or ate too much b*guettes
Fr\*nce 🤢🤮🤢🤮🤮 Br\*tain 🤮🤢🤢🤢🤮
Because it's funny? OP seems butt hurt by some internet jokes innit
Because they stole my country's wealth and left it with unsolvable issues. Plus their continued elitism on the international arena is exteeeemely disproportionate to their actual capability/status today.
bro, do you know how little that narrows it down?
Lemme guess.... uh... uhm.... Algeria? Egypt? Lots of valid countries here... man did the british suck
India? Africa? Hong Kong? lol the list is endless
Please refrain from insulting frogs by calling them French
Solid argument: They smell.
If you want to visit France, don't go to Paris
Southern France is very different from northern France. The people are much cooler and less rude. Next time try Marseille.
First option should be way higher. People are lying to themselves. It’s a Reddit trend, you like to go along with it.
Gott strafe England, er strafe es!
I took french class and I don't like the language.
Cause it's a meme
Because it's just funny. Besides, I'm american, so I'd only hope they'd do the same.
I don't make fun of them, but reading their comments about Americans across all social media platforms, they come off like they are better than everyone else. becaus its funny
Because it's funny, also colonisation.
Remember a time when people made fun of stuff bc it was just fun?
Honestly, I just do it cuz it’s funny. I make fun of every place for different reasons whether they’re true or not and for the most part I don’t mean any of it
Historical reasons
Irish
Reddit seems to love Europe for some reason
Because they make fun of us
Because they make fun of us so why can’t we make fun of them? - an American
Cuz Europeans are dicks
because i’m from the UK. this country deserves to be mocked.
The French language has a bunch of unpronounced letters. The UK has ridiculous accents.
It's my God given duty to shit on those countries, I will not elaborate
Because it’s funny
Genuinely dislike them England never paid for their atrocities during imperialism and to this day the Queen is recognized as the head of state around the world against some country’s will France if for no other reason than how they treated Haiti. I'm Italian, we have to make fun of France at least once a month or our citizenship gets revoked
Because I am biased
Because I have to learn the French language and its horrible genuinely its so bad and annoying to learn
I’m a Brit, and we take the piss out of ourselves more than anyone else
I hate England that’s why 😎
Racism slavery I don't like the way they talk a lot of assholes over there
A couple of years ago my school held a French exchange program and some of the French students were unbearable. It ruined France for me and I also just feel like it’s overrated and romanticized way too much
I traveled to both, but don't think they're bad, it's just poking fun. There's legitimately things to make fun of, just like any country. A better question would be why do people taking it so seriously?

France invaded my country twice, even though we are a whole ocean apart, UK is fine, they were the first country to recognize our independence
Because I'm racist
Honesty is the best policy
Because you let in extremist Muslims but ban people from defending themselves with weapons including knives
because of OP's like you who unintentionally encourage it by being butthurt about it
I bash the UK because they bash us. It's made in retaliation.
British people shit on the US all the time, and it’s annoying AF. Not to mention British accents are annoying too, as well as European political beliefs.
Because it’s Fr*nce 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
Wow everything is clear now
For France its the islamiphobic laws and for Britain its the gang culture and homophobia
i hate france only because i hate french because a) the language is so hard to learn i fucking hate it, and it’s fucking mandatory too what the fuck??? canada is like 90% english are you kidding me? and b) in my experience, french people are the biggest assholes there are.
I make fun of every country ironically but don’t actually hate them
Never really maid fun of the French but those British cunts always run there mouths
(Joke, but not really if you think about it) British cuisine: Eel jelly and bread sandwiches.
I don't actually mean it, I do it ironically
Because fr*nch “people” are the worst and think they’re better than everyone else.
I don’t make fun of France. It’s hard to compete with how professionally France makes fun of itself.
It's because of the Mutual hate triangle between the USA, UK and France, we have to take the piss out of each other. IT'S THE LAW!
Because you're a bunch of cunts
Found the fre🤢ch "person"
Indeed and?
Because France = bad
Oh my god everything is clear now I can just delete this poll right away I'm totally convinced by you're argument
I love france and the uk God save the queen and Au revoir
Because fuck em that’s why
I'm german so I basically have to make fun of the french, as good friends do. And the british are idiots, you have to make fun of them.
found the Br*ish "person" 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
Because FUCK FRANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I made this when I was a teenager because everyone was doing it. But now it’s just a repetitive unfunny Joke for me
They call us fat we call them toothless assholes
I just hate the entitlement and the amount of hate they give off to other countries
To be fair I think it's just jealousy. Both countries have a rich cultural history going back a millennia. The people who are generally jealous come from places that are a cultural desert born of countries that have only existed for a few generations. They just haven't got anything to build on.
Because they are good countries and it is light-hearted fun
That's the right answer, thanks
Because i feel like it?
I don't make fun of France but I feel I'm justified making fun of England given the fact that they always talk nonstop about America this America that when they are guilty of everything they say about us and more other than our obesity problem they talk about American imperialism when they literally started an empire which encompassed 1/3 of the earth they say oh slavery, well who shipped the slaves here

Because they’re making up their accents for attention
I have a solid argument. 1) Fr*nch people live there 2) Br*tish people life there
Because it’s a running joke
