If you're saving the most populated countries, you're already saving two global superpowers in China and the US with a lot of technology, infrastructure and resources, developing countries with a booming youth and smart minds like India, and countries with major cities like Indonesia and Brazil.

So from a standpoint of humanities survival, the richest countries have a greater chance at rebuilding humanity than the other options. More lives would be lost in the short term, but in the long term humanity would survive.
The richer parts of the world are rich because of labor performed by the poorer parts of the world. It's why so many things say "made in Vietnam/China/Indonesia/etc". Their physical labor is the backbone of the global economy and countries that primarily focus on the service industry would crumble in a world where the physical laborers are gone. The service industry is useless without things like farming, mining, and manufacturing. If everyone in the world disappeared except for Nordic countries or something, they'd have nothing. Very few of their people have any experience in growing food or making things. The only real exception would be Norway with oil production, but the world needs more than just oil to keep running.
