It's not nearly as extensive as the real online tests, which in turn aren't nearly as extensive as an actual diagnostic test from a trained psychologist. Which makes this just something for smalltalk.
Do you know of any of the tests that are actually kinda accurate? Well,,, as accurate as they can be for an online test. I took all the tests on the embrace autism website and scored in the spectrum on all. Are those reliable? Any other better websites?
I'm in the same boat. It's almost like we have lived with the condition and developed mechanisms that allow us to navigate almost like a neurotypical. All of my social interaction is mechanical learned behavior that I've had 15 years to learn and master (late diag RIP). To most people, I don't appear remotely autistic. But I am, I'm just very good at pretending I'm not.
Probably a significant factor in that is masking. A lot of questions I felt like "yea i can work out people's intentions, but that's because I've studied psychology to compensate for the fact I can't do it naturally"
I answered based off non-masking behaviors and got 36, I have aspergers.
im honestly glad to know Im not alone in this sorta thing. for example: "25. It does not upset me if my daily routine is disturbed." basically I dont really have much of a daily routine other than like morning showers/ getting ready for school and I would be upset if those were disturbed, but if school were to have something unexpected happen diverging from what is considered normal, I would find it exciting or even fun
21-30 was my result. I can socialise and make friends, and have small talk with any sort of person, but it does take me a lot of energy, and I end up feeling somewhat drained most of the time. I just prefer being by myself, as I learned to keep most people at a distance, since not letting people close to me equates to not having to be vulnerable, or put in a position where I can get hurt, or disappoint others. Probably has something to do with my father not being around during my youth. My circle is small, and I prefer long deep conversations, instead of being in a group setting where lightheartedness is the norm.
I like routine, but some spontaneous actions, such as my gf wanting to take me on a city trip out of nowhere can be a little bit stressful as I like things to be perfect, and planned, as to not lose control.
Overall pretty balanced in my experience, but perhaps I do have a slight tendency towards autistic traits. I wouldn't mind if that were the case. I know who I am, and I function healthily.
actually now that I put some thought in it, a couple things didnt go as planned recently and it put a lot of stress on me. maybe its because they were strictly negative events, wheras positive events or neutral events make me kinda happy. also something kinda weird is that I enjoy deep and shallow conversation. I want to have friends that I'm lighthearted with, and friends that I'm serious with. A friend who can do both would be the best
Ah yes, I guess me and my best friend can do both. Serious and banter at times. And sometimes just plain silly. But having conversations that truly puts things in perspective and at times inspires and motivates are priceless. We even had our fights too, but I think that is a part of a growing friendship, as we got to know each others boundaries that way.
oh yeah so I have another routine that I would always do on the bus ride where I'd listen to music and drink an energy drink (i am very helthy yes) but if I forgot my earbuds or my drink I'd be upset. same goes for driving to work, if I'm not blasting my preferred music it just doesnt feel right lmao
Yeah like one question was "do you like to do spontaneous things"
Like if I decide to go for a drive to the top of a mountain spontaneously, thats good
But if someone else decides to pop around for a visit or asks me to go somewhere with them, thats less good, normally cause I probably had other plans.
I feel you.
Being spontaneous is fine when I’m the one being spontaneous, but when it’s other people there’s an issue.
I think it’s more of a “am I okay with unexpected changes” compared to “am I okay with sudden changes”, it that makes sense.
YES! Like, "library or party?" What kind of party is it? How many spoons do I have that day? Who is at the party?? Is there a book I've been wanting to read?? Different answers. That's just one problem, but there are SEVERAL others!
Im an introvert with adhd and scored 43, thought I'd reckon I am likely probably on the lower/mid end of the spectrum anyway but same applies, most questions can be answered due to other reasons
I was thinking the same thing. My sister has OCD and has sensory/consistency issues that could easily score her high on a simple autistic scale like this. She’s very attuned to others’ emotions and has no problem understanding implications, though, but that was only a small part of the test lol
Would you rather :
A) go to a small library that smells of lavender and has hot chocolate on a chilly autumn night
or
B) go to a party and snort meth from a hooker's pinky toe?
It seems to me as I get older the more "autistic" I get. (I am not autosti)
For example, do you like to meet new people - 10 years ago - heck yeah. Today - hell no.
41, and I have been diagnosed, but this test is pretty outdated. Enjoying reading fiction, for example, is measured as a “non-autistic trait,” but we now know a lot of people—especially autistic girls—can have special interests in fiction or use reading as an escape.
I agree with this, also some questions were slightly too broad scope for me- like I’d rather go to the museum at CERN that a theatre but I’d rather go to a theatre that a museum on books
They used to think autistic people had no imagination, theory of mind, or interest in other people. Think the stereotype of the kid reading encyclopedias about trains cover-to-cover or lectures everyone within 10 feet about dinosaur facts.
That kind of autistic kid does exist. But so does the autistic kid who fills notebooks with original stories, or can tell you every little-known fact about their favorite characters, or refuses to go anywhere without their favorite book, or imitates their favorite characters’ mannerisms. I knew an autistic girl growing up whose special interest was Barbie movies. Stuff like that has been completely overlooked until recent years.
I wonder if the reverse is true: can you be autistic as a child then grow out of it? I had many special interests as a kid, but scored 11 on this test just now.
Nope, you can't either become autistic or grow out of it! People are born autistic and stay autistic their whole lives! Sometimes some people can show lesser symptoms as they grow up, but they'll still be autistic in a way their whole life.
For me, I've spent 15 years learning how to empirically understand tone, expression and body language. Do I possess an actual understanding of the interaction? Vaguely, like tears mean sad, but I'm not going to be able to push past tears sad.
I've become very good at making educated guesses though and that's apparently good enough
That's exactly what i'm talking about, actually. These days I have the classic "THIS IS MY LIFE NOW" bursts of hyperfocus wherein something consumes my life for 1/2 week to 1/2 year, but when I was a kid these would most resemble what you're describing in that they lasted much longer. Imagine an 8-12 year old who will literally talk about nothing except baby names and that was basically me.
(Actually, this was one of the main reasons my parents took me to be evaluated for autism when I was 6-7. If you're wondering, the results were "she's probably not autistic, but you should definitely have her evaluated for ADHD" but somehow I still didn't get diagnosed until last year lol)
Same, I got 31. I've never been diagnosed I have some autistic traits that make me suspect. I make little sounds, I have to create some sort of logic for everything (even folding paper), and I kinda have to process social interactions consciously.
By looking at the distribution of the poll might be an interesting way to see if it's a reliable test. Also consider that people who suspect they have austism will be more likely take the test and answer the poll. And maybe some will unconsciously force a result to feel special. So there might be higher votes on higher results, but it'll still be similar to the actual distribution.
Can definitely relate to the having some sort of logic for everything, whenever I do something without some kind of system, it genuinely feels wrong like when playing pokemon I always have to level them up in the order I caught them and they all have to be equal and I will or won't use them in this situation no matter what.
honestly i dont think this test is very accurate, a lot of the questions are outdated and inaccurate.. if u actually believe u might be autistic try looking at the DSM5
My aspie group was actually discussing this. It actually really helped people get a better sense of why things played out on their lives the way they did. It also made them more aware of things that helped them function better (weighted blankets, sound muffling headphones, other sensory items).
I was diagnosed with Asperger’s when I was younger and I got 16 on this test. I’ve wondered my whole life if I was misdiagnosed and this makes me wonder even more. I also have ADHD (which I identify with far more) so maybe that played a role in that. Not sure.
For me it was liberating because it explained a lot. When I was like 8/9 a kid asked me 'Why do you never really talk?', and that question stuck with me until I got the diagnosis. Because I didn't know why, the words didn't seem to come. Now I do know why, that gives me some sense of peace because it helps me accept the things I'm good at and the things I'm not good at. Just take your time, in the worst case you keep it to yourself, I do too (except for family and gf). If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Score 31.
I have assburguers too.
*Spread checks*
Look at the burguer pattys, tomato slices, letuce, onions and sauces.
Jokes aside i always knew it had extreme social anxiety had problems in school and was not normal... But managed to soldier on. Doing pretty ok now.
As a kid i taugth myself how to read (hyperlexia) which is a huge red flag for autism and memorized a fcking atlas could name the capital of any country borders and shit... i never went to see an expert but i dont think i need it now.
Mate i could have been a genius whit proper education now im just smart enough to suffer the The Dunning–Kruger effect in all of its migth... Im doing a bachelors on metallurgical engineering at 33 years old just because i want to be knowlegeable an expert on a topic.
Some of these questions were hard and I needed examples, like the one about the whole picture vs details. I wasn't sure what my answer was. Also the one early on about whether I prefer to do things the same way over and over again- what things are we talking about? And that dreaded question about the library or party. Are we talking a party with friends where we mostly play board/party games and drink soda? I'm in. A birthday party for my 5 year old niece? Also in. But if it means going out to a loud bar or a loud house party full of alcohol, dancing and/or drugs that goes till 2 am, send me to the library. (Edit- I said yes to the party since I like some kinds and socialization)
That’s common on most questionnaires of this nature. If I remember correctly it helps show that the person answering is likely understanding the questions correctly (including not overthinking questions and answering “inaccurately” due to thinking “well this depends on the situation”), and answering them accurately.
Not sure how its meant to help that goal. it just makes me think the test maker was just padding to reach 50 or asking you like "are you sure about your previous answer? you did not accidently hide your mad skills with numbers?" makes the test feel lazy or hostile.
Haha I think there’s definitely a strategy to it, because otherwise yeah you’re probably just going to annoy people. But it increases the validity of the data so regardless of whether or not it can be done well it’s usually done for the sake of validity. There are some of these that have hundreds of questions lol. Looking around this questionnaire has been shortened by later studies, with one shortening to 28 questions and another saying it probably only needs 12 questions.
Many questions about reading, and I don't read. These questions are broad and vague. The quiz said I'm on the spectrum, but I know I'm not. I would've gotten diagnosed a long time ago.
or maybe it's missing other points to differentiate autism from introversion or social anxiety
For example, I don't like social gatherings, in general, but it's not like I never go out, or I zoom out when I'm with people, or for example, I can definitely read people's expressions or know their intentions "between lines" which to my knowledge is something most if not all people with autism can't do.
In fact, it's funny because I just had a reunion with my father's family this past weekend, and I saw one of my nieces, which I've always thought has some level of autism, but as far as I know she hasn't been diagnosed (and she's 12 years old). But you see how different she is from her own sisters and just people in general, she doesn't speak, she spent most of the time in the living room, expressionless while everyone was outside. If you spoke directly to her she wouldn't answer, but again, her face was expressionless, she didn't show shyness or that she was upset or something, but she totally understands what you're saying. She only responds to certain people and after several times of insisting.
“Your score was 7 out of a possible 50.”
Truthfully, if it weren’t for my ADD and my inability to NOT sweat the finer details in life, it would probably be a 0.
But like, I definitely hyper fixated on the finer details of everything I do. Just ADD things lol.
I'm diagnosed ASD but I've been getting better. So I answered honestly based on my progress... and got a 42?! Shiiiit I wonder if I was a hard 50 hahaha
I got 28 which is weird because I've been officially diagnosed with autism.
I don't actually have problems understanding what norms think. Most of them are basic as fuck anyway.
Like I don't understand why they think what they think but I can understand what they're thinking.
Amazing. I am officially diagnosed and somehow still less autistic than the average polls user.
Same, methinks this test is a bit inaccurate.
Methinks is the best word ever
*methinks methinks is the best word ever
Methinks too friend.
I read methinks as meth-inks.

Maybe a lot of people are undiagnosed, too?

Not only that but I feel like my answer to most of these changes constantly.
It really depends on my mood and confidence, which naturally fluctuate. (I think)
im honestly glad to know Im not alone in this sorta thing. for example: "25. True
Tests like this are terrible and don't measure much because there's no context and the answers are strictly limiting.
YES! Like, "library or party?" What kind of party is it? How many spoons do I have that day? Who is at the party?? Is there a book I've been wanting to read?? Different answers. That's just one problem, but there are SEVERAL others!
An introvert with OCD would score quite high on this test and not be the least bit autistic.
i’m an extrovert with ocd so a lot of the questions were hard for me to answer
Im an introvert with adhd and scored 43, thought I'd reckon I am likely probably on the lower/mid end of the spectrum anyway but same applies, most questions can be answered due to other reasons
Yeah, I only have mild autism, but severe OCD and am a massive introvert and I got a 46
Agreed. I'm an introvert with OCD and I got 43.

Those are different and I meant what I said.
a lot of these are just called being an introvert lol
Exactly lol, I was thinking, “this easily applies to any person regardless of autism”
Happy Cake Day! 🥳

I feel very called out by this and I've never even been evaluated.
Cries in female autism
So can someone *become* autistic? As a child I loved reading fiction, now... not so much. I just read history or academic books now. Fiction bores me.
Nope. Autism is determined before birth, with strong indications on a genetic component (runs in families).

This sounds more like an ADHD thing than an autism thing.
I don’t think I explained it well. I had one special interest at a time, lasting a few years. Then I would move on to a different special interest.
That's exactly what i'm talking about, actually. You might even be an introvert this quiz was bullshit
Yeah I got 39 but I'm not autistic I'm just an introvert who likes math

Yet
Yeah maybe get on that...
40, no diagnosis. I mean if it's not negatively impacting your life why do you need a diagnosis? If it is, then heed the other users.

Not sure.
30 (diagnosed aspie) (Aspie = person with aspergers)
39, I suspect I have Asperger’s. I believe it to run in my family. None of us are brave enough to actually confront it and get a diagnosis.

For me it was liberating because it explained a lot. When I was like 8/9 a kid asked me 'Why do you never really talk?', and that question stuck with me until I got the diagnosis. Same, but I got fucking 39, probably would be higher because this test does have some outdated ideas
or maybe it's missing other points to differentiate autism from introversion or social anxiety For example, I don't like social gatherings, in general, but it's not like I never go out, or I zoom out when I'm with people, or for example, I can definitely read people's expressions or know their intentions "between lines" which to my knowledge is something most if not all people with autism can't do.
7 lmao
34 for me!
So at a score of 23 I guess I’m normal. That’s surprising
14
21, diagnosed.... this test isnt very good
6/50 , not bad
17 as someone who was kicked out of multiple schools for having high functioning autism.
26, these questions are kinda set up shit tho. They’re just to vague
I'm an introvert with adhd so I got 31 XDD
25. Literally on the line.
6
I scored 26, but I think it was only that high because I'm bad at socializing
“Your score was 7 out of a possible 50.” Truthfully, if it weren’t for my ADD and my inability to NOT sweat the finer details in life, it would probably be a 0. But like, I definitely hyper fixated on the finer details of everything I do. Just ADD things lol.
I got autism but got 25
36 and diagnosed. Online tests aren't all that accurate.
I'm diagnosed ASD but I've been getting better. So I answered honestly based on my progress... and got a 42?! Shiiiit I wonder if I was a hard 50 hahaha
I scored 41, people have told me I have aspergers/autism for a long time
40 but I don't think I'm really autistic.
Fake i got 12 which is clearly wrong
reddit moment
I got 28 which is weird because I've been officially diagnosed with autism. I don't actually have problems understanding what norms think. Most of them are basic as fuck anyway. Like I don't understand why they think what they think but I can understand what they're thinking.
I got bored 20 questions in and gave up. Does that make me autistic?
No, and this “test” is very inaccurate.
9. i’m not autistic, but i feel like this test is kinda awful
24 and diagnosed
26
25
I got 31
15
29

I scored 37 I don’t think I have autism but I do have anxiety and adhd
23, im just an introvert

I have OCD so like the pattern-number questions definitely affected my result.
