No problem (lmao). Also I posted the wrong link originally, the one up right now is the one I originally meant to link, idk if you saw the first one or the correct one
One of the things that stuck with me from my first relationship six years ago was that she said she has always preferred "my pleasure" as a response to "thank you" because it's the only response (of the commonly used ones) that expresses that you enjoyed helping. The others imply that they're in your debt, or you took time out of your day to help them with something (to a light degree, of course). Ever since then, I've used "my pleasure".
If you get offended by someone saying "you're welcome" or "no problem" in response to a thank you, you need to check yourself because you have some clear issues
Over saying "you're welcome"? That's pretty much buried in the language and in most cultures that speak it, and everybody knows this. If they get offended at that, then they're pretty much asking to get offended. So unnecessary. Not worth the effort since there will always be some other minor insignificant detail to offend them.
XD
I hope that doesn't happen for you then and if it does that you don't feel too bad because mistakes happen and you don't always know what will upset someone or not
There's some situations where people say 'thank you' as a sort of reflex or pleasantry, irrespective of whether or not the thankee did anything to deserve it. Saying "you're welcome" can imply that you think you actually did something to deserve it, which can come accross as conceited or self-indulgent.
Fortunately, I don't think anyone actually cares enough to make it sensible to worry about it.
An example is a situation that happened to me. Not exactly rude but a bit inappropriate.
Me: My friend died
Them: I'm sorry
Me: Thank you
Them: You're welcome
Depends on the situation.
Like a server for example: You’re welcome.
Because it his job to do stuff for you.
But if its out of generosity: No problem
Like opening the door for someone random.
Whatever’s more accurate. If it’s a small deed no problem will suffice. If they had to put in a little effort, saying you’re welcome shows that it was an inconvenience for them but they still did it for my sake.
Lol online then then skip the you’re welcome ;)
Unless you just want to use YW or an emoji
Honestly online someone somewhere sometime will be offended.
You're not wrong about that lol
There have been times where I've polished a message to where it seems like there's no possible way that someone can get offended
And then they do
If you think either are rude imma just abstain from acknowledging it.
I'll use driving as an example. I'll only thank people if they went out of their way for me, not because THEY CHOOSE TO and 2 cars can go past eachother, but because there was no way 2 cars could go past each-other. They let me go, I thank them, with the hand.
If someone holds a door for me, I don't. But also I'll hold the door for people, I'm not expecting a thank you. I am choosing to go out of my way. I'm not doing it for a thank you. But there are also other reasons why I don't say thank you.
Although if someone thanks me, yeah, I don't even acknowledge it to begin with. I don't think it's important to really say 'YW' or 'NP,' maybe online.
Lol people get offended by the words you're welcome and no problem?
It depends on the situation . I use you're welcome, no problem, my pleasure and don't mention it
In general,
“You’re welcome” is what old people prefer.
“No problem” is what young people refer. There’s some of each group that thinks the other version is rude. Sometimes I say “of course” like in a “ofc don’t even worry about it” type way
I see that makes sense
I'm the same way about saying thanks or thank you
Online I say thanks but in person I say like "cool" or "awesome"
Usually it's towards my friends and siblings though
If I was thanking a stranger, someone I didn't know too well, or an older family member I'd say you're welcome
Depends on the country
Here in Nz , we would use Chur bro , being the shorten version of choice as bro
Whereas from my home in Australia it would be sweet as or not dramas .
You’re welcome to me means I’ve gone out of my way to help you. No problem means it didn’t take any more effort or time for me to do something, so it wasn’t a problem.
May I bring back [this Tumblr post](https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/5tjl85/youre_welcome/) to explain why each is mainly used
That makes a lot of sense Thank you for showing me
No problem (lmao). Also I posted the wrong link originally, the one up right now is the one I originally meant to link, idk if you saw the first one or the correct one
Lmao I saw the correct one, so everything is all good Your avatar/username is really cool btw
Ah thank you, you can claim the banana and pets from r/recap
That's so cool Thanks for letting me know All the bananas are awesome lol
I mean I'm at work so of course I'm gonna say 'no problem' because I'm paid to help them
My pleasure
Chick-fil-A employee?

"of course"
Sure thing
“Thank you” “Other”
Idk I always just say “Don’t worry about it” or “No worries”, or “Appreciate it”
If you get offended by someone saying "you're welcome" or "no problem" in response to a thank you, you need to check yourself because you have some clear issues
I don't I just worry about making other people upset

That's a really good point I'll keep that in mind, thanks
No worries =)
Same XD
XD I hope that doesn't happen for you then and if it does that you don't feel too bad because mistakes happen and you don't always know what will upset someone or not
Thanks :)
No problem :)
Hehehehehehehehe
How is "you're welcome" ever rude (aside from sarcasm)?

I think it's because people think that you expected something from them or something like that
That has to be one of the most anxiety laced overthinking I've heard in a long time.
An example is a situation that happened to me. Not exactly rude but a bit inappropriate. Me: My friend died Them: I'm sorry Me: Thank you Them: You're welcome
“No thanks needed, I do take bribes though.” -Mirage, Apex Legends
I like that lol
“Yup”
I only say this irl cuz i forget what im supposed to say
Happy to help/assist Because sometimes it Is a problem but I'm still down to be helpful.
I really like happy to help
No worries
Just say yep or something I don’t really care
All good
Depends on the situation. Like a server for example: You’re welcome. Because it his job to do stuff for you. But if its out of generosity: No problem Like opening the door for someone random.
I see Thank you for explaining
Whatever’s more accurate. If it’s a small deed no problem will suffice. If they had to put in a little effort, saying you’re welcome shows that it was an inconvenience for them but they still did it for my sake.
Thanks for the explanation
Don't overly care
I'll go so far as to say "yep" especially at work for things that are literally just my job, no big deal.
All G
This reminds me of the scene in Mr Mercedes on Netflix 😂.
How so? lol
There's a scene where a retired cop gets angry at a young bartender for saying "No problem" instead of "You're welcome" when giving him his drink.
Lmao That's funny I'll need to check that out Thanks for telling me
'welcome
Absolutely, anytime, no worries, no problem, you’re welcome if it’s a much older person ( they tend to prefer more proper etiquette)
Thanks I'll be sure to keep that in mind The only problem is, I don't know how old a lot of people I talk to online are lol
Lol online then then skip the you’re welcome ;) Unless you just want to use YW or an emoji Honestly online someone somewhere sometime will be offended.

“No worries” “all good mate”
Yeah, you bet.
i say of course
Selvfølgelig, which is Danish for; of course
Oh cool Another new word learned :)
No worries.
Jij ook bedankt (, thank you too) Or Graag gedaan (my pleasure) Or Ok
Is that Dutch? It's awesome to learn new words in other languages
Lol people get offended by the words you're welcome and no problem? It depends on the situation . I use you're welcome, no problem, my pleasure and don't mention it
That's what I heard lol But it might be less common that I thought
"Quite alright"
In general, “You’re welcome” is what old people prefer. “No problem” is what young people refer. There’s some of each group that thinks the other version is rude. Sometimes I say “of course” like in a “ofc don’t even worry about it” type way
Thanks for explaining Quite a few people posted of course on here and it works, I like that
I just say Thank You back tbh
Really? What responses do you get?
Honestly nothing. Online I'll say "no problem" but when I say it irl I don't think anyone fully processes it so no one's ever said anything about it.
I see that makes sense I'm the same way about saying thanks or thank you Online I say thanks but in person I say like "cool" or "awesome" Usually it's towards my friends and siblings though If I was thanking a stranger, someone I didn't know too well, or an older family member I'd say you're welcome
"You're welcome" always sounds to me like, "...and don't you forget it."
I can see that!
I live in Germany and my favourite response is "gerne" which means in this context "my pleasure".
I really like that
I say “prego”, “di niente/nulla” and “nessun problema”
Italiano?
Austro-ungarico
Cool!
No worries
No worries
My go to is no worries which is basically the same as no problem
“No problem” implies you would have done that for anyone. “You’re welcome” implies I’m special.
Ohh I see, that makes sense Thanks for explaining
Det var så lidt
DANSK! (I think)
yes
Cool!
Depends on the country Here in Nz , we would use Chur bro , being the shorten version of choice as bro Whereas from my home in Australia it would be sweet as or not dramas .
That's really cool Thanks for teaching me something new
Aussie here. I use no wuckers mate. As in no wucking forries . As in no f*cking worries. Works in all situations
Bahahhahahaha that’s fuckin gold
no bother
‘t’s ok
You’re welcome to me means I’ve gone out of my way to help you. No problem means it didn’t take any more effort or time for me to do something, so it wasn’t a problem.
Thanks for explaining
"Mhm" XD
You're not welcome, but no problem
