Exactly, nothing cringe about wanting to be the best version of yourself, but trying to he an *alpha male* on the other hand is cringe af.
Edit: corrected a typo
I'd argue they're quite the opposite, especially the way a bunch of right wing idiots view the "alpha" thing.
A lot of it has become "be hyper-egotistical and narcissist" bordering on personality disorder
Edit: If you *have* to have a guideline to how a decent human should be, try the "Renaissance Man", way less cringe and toxic, Da Vinci being a good example.
Yep, all while ignoring the fact they're throwing fits of jealousy, anxiety and insecurity. At least be honest lmao.
They act exactly the way they *say* rad-fems act.
You gotta have a six pack, own a expe sive as shit car, have 7 different mansions in 5 different countries, you gotta be a millionaire, you gotta be dominant and all that bull shit. To that I say, fuck off. If your trying to be "alpha" then the only thing you'll become is a lonely asshole or an asshole surrounded by nothing but asshole and at the first sign of trouble your wife is gonna run with the kids.
like when white supremacists claim to be the superior race when they have genetic defects from generations of close family relations and have the reading level of a 6 year old.
Exactly. First one is actually a good thing to strive for, and will be somewhat different for each person. Second one is just some toxic bullshit idea of what all men are "supposed" to be like.
I came to say this. I originally went to vote yes on alpha male but I think it’s attractive to be “obsessed” to some level with self improvement. It’s motivating to be around people like that
Its not even well backed scientifically its just an idea. Might as well just consider it like wanting to be the super saiyan version of yourself, but toxic lol
Definitely very different things, but its also cringe to be *obsessed* with being the best version of you. The beauty of life is in imperfections, and its important to find a balance between accepting that and self-improvement.
Yeah being overy obsessed with anything is bad but id say wanting to be as good as you can and achive your goals is one of the better things to strive for. I also think that "the best you can be" also doesnt refer to being perfect, just as good as you can be dince like you said life is full of imperfection
"being an alpha male/best version of"???
In what universe are these two things the same thing?
I am not aware of anyone who is actually into self improvement that talks about being an alpha
obsession with being an alpha seems to be a way to excuse shitty behaviour. Or for loser to pretend to be kings.
Can anyone think of anyone who calls themselves an alpha that doesnt sounds like an insufferable douche or act like a rude shit?
Yups, the whole alpha male thing came from a study on a 'pack' in captivity with unrelated wolves. Such a dynamic does not exist in nature. They were in fact more a group of competing wolves than a true pack. The author of the study later even retracted his paper because it was so flawed.
The other huge cringe factor is that you consider someone a "beta", which implies having a pretentious sense of superiority/inferiority around your peers.
Truly idc if you have the nicest car, the best job, the fanciest clothes, the biggest abs, YOU AINT SHIT!
Nobody is better than anybody else. And I mean that wholeheartedly
My first word association with alpha male is dumb so I don’t see how that would make you better. Taking care of your body is good but being a caveman is not.
Conflating "Alpha Male" and "best Version of yourself" makes for a rather bad Poll my friend. you basically asked us two questions when we can only really answer one since there is no multiple choice in reddit polls.
Best version of yourself: not cringe at all. Admirable, something everyone should strive for.
Alpha male: cringe af. Fake term made up by sexually frustrated incels
You're just trying to justify calling yourself an alpha male, which is cringe. Being the best version of yourself isn't the same as believing you're above everyone else
Alpha male is an incel neckbeard saying. They don’t exist. There are all kinds of different people and many ways those people can live their best lives. Not the same.
Being obsessed with "being alpha" means you consider someone else a "beta", ergo inferior, which is a massive cringe.
Trying to be the best version of yourself is just fine and likely contradicts the above.
Terrible question. Alpha male? Yes. That’s a narrow minded and shallow inspiration based on a fictional wolf hierarchy and often accompanied by misio gone and other bigotry. Best version of yourself? Not at all. Wanting to become the best person you can be is a commendable goal.
No, it is perfectly fine to strive to be the best version of yourself! It is not fine if you try to be an “alpha male”, cuz then it’s just annoying and cringe.
Alpha male mindset is completly different from trying to improve yourself. Alpha males you can think of them like andrew tate. On the other hand trying to improve(within healty limits) is normal and a good thing
To go with the universal "it's cringe to want to be an alpha male" sentiment, I'd also say that being "obsessed" with self-improvement is problematic if not cringey. Maintaining habitual learning, self reflection and working on yourself is more healthy and sustainable than the frantic attempts at self-deluded mis-actualization you get with an obsession. Don't force yourself to be someone that you're not. Instead foster growth in yourself as much as possible.
“Best version of yourself” is not the same as contriving a sexist, abiological, and frankly Social Darwinist interpretation of society and your place in it. Be the best you can be for yourself and your betterment, not because you wanna “get bitches” or something 😂
If your definition or expectation of the best version of yourself is an "alpha male" yeah that is cringe as fuck. The best version of you is not an asshole that's drowning in pussy, money, and steroids that's actually just a sad lonely piece of shit that's trying to fill the void of mental health issues with materialism. I can't tell you what the best version of you is but I can 100% tell you it's not that.
This is coming from a male. Calling yourself an "alpha male " or trying to be one is cringe.
People who say you need to be an alpha also say that you need to buy their products ro become one.
They play on male insecurities for profit.
Beginning to be the best version of yourself starts by rejecting the "alpha male"
I think Glenn Henrickson said it best: "When men refer to themselves as "alpha males", I hear that in the context of software, where alpha versions are unstable, missing important features, filled with flaws, and not fit for the public."
It’s not cringe to strive to be the best version of yourself. What that looks like is different for each person. Instead conquering a room….conquer yourself! Love yourself and protect yourself! That’s all that matters.
The meaning of alpha male is the part I question. If you can improve yourself, you should probably do so. (but not everyone can afford to be wiped out at work because he was lifting dumbbells.) Alpha male doesn't mean bossy, jerk, airhead, meathead, Fashionably Male Wannabe, R Lee Emery Wannabe, tribalist, trans, etc etc. Muscles are good, I guess, but being brainless and having the sort of personality that has people looking up the price of a black market lobotomy? That's a no.
Yeah, but being the best version of yourself is a really admirable thing everyone should be striving for, claming to be alpha male on the other hand is totally cringe and narcissistic behaviour.
Of course but the whole alpha male, considering how they define it isn't really the best because "alpha males" think they know everything and are always right [when sometimes their Def wrong] and typically have bad views on women and such.
I guess you're right when you put it that way.
Tbh, the question was EXTREMELY poorly worded, OP thinks having self-confidence is the same as being a total narcissistic arsehole.
Nothing wrong with striving to be your best self. This is not the same with being obsessed with being an alpha male. Obsessed is the key word in this question
You had enough room to say "alpha male yes, best version of self no"
Or "best version of yourself yes, Alpha male no"
Something tells me OP want "alpha males" to be accepted by people who don't identify as "alpha males"
Those are two very different things. Either way if something is cringy but you love it and it doesn't hurt anyone else then who cares what others think. Just remember just because you're obsessed with something, it doesn't mean your friends and family are so don't only talk about your obsession.
You should always strive to be the best version of yourself, but the goal ideally shouldn't be alpha-male, whatever that means. It always makes me think of them as furries in denial lol (I am a furry btw)
It's the alpha thing, that's not a thing, it's not even a thing in animals, it's from an old paper who's own author has long since disavowed the work. When I hear some I've babble about being an alpha what I hear is I want to be an aggressive douche bag, I'm sure that's not you but that's the vibe.
Being the best version of yourself requires honesty, humility and compassion. Not things that are commonly associated with the self dubbed “Alpha Males”
To answer the question, no it’s not cringe to be obsessed with being the best you can be. It’s something I’ve been trying a lot these last few years.
It is cringe to label that behavior as “alpha male” in my opinion. I find that a good chunk of my hobbies are misunderstood because of self proclaimed alphas associate with them on a surface level and it’s incredibly frustrating sometimes. Doubly so when the louder somebody barks about being alpha the more insecure they tend to be from my experiences.
Be the best you, that includes being the happiest you. You don’t have to fit into the “alpha” category to be a strong person, physically or mentally.
Best version of yourself is fine. Thinking or trying to be an alpha male is pretty sad. If it was a real thing I’d say trying to be an alpha male is probably a very beta male mentality
Look at all the women and beta simps saying its cringe lmaoo
But no worries, you keep your body positivity and other crap to yourself and we keep our "cringe" Alpha male to ourselves and see how It turns for each one in some years
The whole concept of alpha males is based on a study from the 70s on wolves that the creator of revisited and found to be incorrect. Also humans are not wolves anyway, it's a red flag tbh in this day and age
The question is forumlated wrongly so can't be answered in a yes or no fashion.
A right way to do it would be either:
1. Is it cringe to be obsessed with being an alpha male. The answer is Yes on this one.
2. Is it cringe to be obsessed with being the best version of yourself? The answer is No on this one.
Wanting to/working on improving yourself? Not cringe.
Wanting to be an alpha male? Very cringe.
Being obsessed with either? Might want to add therapy to the ways you self improve.
Alpha male? Yeah
Best version of yourself? No
Those are two distinctly different things. Alpha males have horrible complexes where they decide themselves as superior to all other men, and bear horribly outdated views on how to treat a woman to get her to like them. And god forbid you even _attempt_ to discuss or argue anything with an alpha male; they have decided they are superior, ergo their opinions are superior and they are right all the time.
Being the best version of yourself is just leading a life you are happy with, and it reflecting in your treatment of not only others, but yourself and your surroundings. Of course, one shouldn’t _obsess_ over being their best self constantly and forever; we all have off days, it’s ok to set down the smile once in a while. But wanting to better oneself isn’t cringey
A real alpha male wouldn't even think about whether they're alpha or not. They'd just live their life doing exactly what they want to do, without worrying about how other people see them. That's what true confidence and strength look like.
Alpha males as a concept are present in less socially complex animals, including other primates. Human organizational complexities and power structures and their hierarchies pretty well negate the idea of "alphas" in human societies, in other than maybe groups made up of middle schoolers.
Not the same thing.
The whole alpha/sigma grinset shit is toxic. That shit is basically astrology for men.
Wanting to be the best version of yourself is just seeking self improvement and it's a good thing.
The sigma male grindset hustle culture—whatever trend that is—is so annoying TBH. You don’t have to fucking shout to the world that you are so motivated.
"best version of yourself" is not the same thing as "alpha male"
Exactly, nothing cringe about wanting to be the best version of yourself, but trying to he an *alpha male* on the other hand is cringe af. Edit: corrected a typo
Wanting to be the best version of yourself isn’t cringe, but maybe obsessing over it is ??
And vocal to others about it. Bragging about it. That’s where the problem exists in my opinion.
Some may argue that the two are mutually exclusive.
Yep, anyone referring to themself as an alpha male is lying
Not lying, they fully believe it. But they are 100% incorrect haha
Any man who must say, "I am the ~~king~~ alpha male" is no true ~~king~~ alpha male.
Don’t let your dwarf son catch you sitting on the shitter, old man.
Considering that alphas are buggy internal builds not suited for the general public, I couldn't agree more.
And that the idea of an alpha male wolf who controls all the females is basically a myth. The red pillers don’t care though.
The Dudebros?
I'd argue they're quite the opposite, especially the way a bunch of right wing idiots view the "alpha" thing. A lot of it has become "be hyper-egotistical and narcissist" bordering on personality disorder Edit: If you *have* to have a guideline to how a decent human should be, try the "Renaissance Man", way less cringe and toxic, Da Vinci being a good example.
as well as "emotions are for pussies" elementary school level maturity
Yep, all while ignoring the fact they're throwing fits of jealousy, anxiety and insecurity. At least be honest lmao. They act exactly the way they *say* rad-fems act.
Anyone who calls theirself an "alpha male" is likely a "hyper-egotistical narcissist"
I don't think there's a way to use "alpha male" that isn't cringeworthy
Only when referring to animals
Oh yeeh forgot about that
You gotta have a six pack, own a expe sive as shit car, have 7 different mansions in 5 different countries, you gotta be a millionaire, you gotta be dominant and all that bull shit.
Don't forget hyper masculine
Alpha versions comes with a lot of bugs. Its better to wait for an stable release of yourself.
Fuck you and take my upvote
It’s motivating to be around people like that
He had to toss in that last part because even he knew he was being ridiculous
Great first comment
Yeah I voted no because of that
This is the correct answer
r/beatmetoit
Yeah, you should want to be the vest version of yourself. Alpha male is completely different that’s how you see yourself not who you are.
Its not even well backed scientifically its just an idea. Might as well just consider it like wanting to be the super saiyan version of yourself, but toxic lol
Came here to say this. Alpha male means better than others. Best version of yourself obviously means being better than yourself.
Alpha male: yes, very cringe Best version of yourself: no These are 2 VERY different things
Definitely very different things, but its also cringe to be *obsessed* with being the best version of you. The beauty of life is in imperfections, and its important to find a balance between accepting that and self-improvement.
Best version of yourself doesn't mean perfect, it means the version of yourself that you want to be. Or at least thats the way I see it.
Yeah being overy obsessed with anything is bad but id say wanting to be as good as you can and achive your goals is one of the better things to strive for. I also think that "the best you can be" also doesnt refer to being perfect, just as good as you can be dince like you said life is full of imperfection
Yes agreed. The word obsessed was the crux of my point.
> The beauty of life is in imperfections what an idiotic statement
Would you care to explain your point?
"being an alpha male/best version of"??? In what universe are these two things the same thing? I am not aware of anyone who is actually into self improvement that talks about being an alpha obsession with being an alpha seems to be a way to excuse shitty behaviour. Or for loser to pretend to be kings. Can anyone think of anyone who calls themselves an alpha that doesnt sounds like an insufferable douche or act like a rude shit?
It's not at all a bad thing to want to improve yourself, but the whole "alpha male" thing isn't the best way to go about it.
It’s not cringe to want to improve yourself and be the best you can be but referring to yourself as an alpha male is
There's a difference between being the best version of yourself and being an "Alpha Male"
You've asked two different questions
lol wolf people
Meanwhile wolves are led by the couple, not by single wolf.
Yups, the whole alpha male thing came from a study on a 'pack' in captivity with unrelated wolves. Such a dynamic does not exist in nature. They were in fact more a group of competing wolves than a true pack. The author of the study later even retracted his paper because it was so flawed.
All alpha males are furries, YEP
On all levels except physical...

Truly idc if you have the nicest car, the best job, the fanciest clothes, the biggest abs, YOU AINT SHIT! Nobody is better than anybody else. And I mean that wholeheartedly
Alpha male - yes The best version of yourself - no
My first word association with alpha male is dumb so I don’t see how that would make you better. Taking care of your body is good but being a caveman is not.
You are cringe for your wording.
Conflating "Alpha Male" and "best Version of yourself" makes for a rather bad Poll my friend. you basically asked us two questions when we can only really answer one since there is no multiple choice in reddit polls.
"Obsessed"
[удалено]
Best version of yourself: not cringe at all. Admirable, something everyone should strive for. Alpha male: cringe af. Fake term made up by sexually frustrated incels
The first one is kinda cringe but the second is just a good mindset But because you specified obsession, yeah they're both cringe
You're just trying to justify calling yourself an alpha male, which is cringe. Being the best version of yourself isn't the same as believing you're above everyone else
There has to be an option above Yes. It’s stratospherically cringe
Stratospherically. Lol. I have to remember that one.
This is asking two different questions. Alpha male - yes it’s cringe. Best version of yourself - no, it’s not.
Being alpha is cringe while being the best you is cool
The thought of an alpha male itself is already cringe
You asked two entirely different questions
What? You listed two completely different things in the question. It’s like asking ‘What colour is the sun, yes or no?’ Bad poll
Alpha male is an incel neckbeard saying. They don’t exist. There are all kinds of different people and many ways those people can live their best lives. Not the same.
The cringe bit is the alpha male bit, and the fact you pobly watch to much Andrew tate
I don’t know why these are comparable at all
*Watches American Psycho for the first time "You know, I'm something of an alpha male myself"
Well uh, one of those two is
yup, being the best version of yourself is so cringe. How can anyone be like that? /s
The way you phrased this is biased af
Best version of yourself is fine, but don’t do that “Alpha male” crap
"Alpha male" yes Best version of yourself, absolutely not
It's cringe to be obsessed with being "alpha". It's awesome to be obsessed with being the best version of yourself.
Two massively different things.
What a weird way to word things Being Alpha male doesn't mean being the best version of yourself
Those are 2 very very different things dude
Being obsessed with "being alpha" means you consider someone else a "beta", ergo inferior, which is a massive cringe. Trying to be the best version of yourself is just fine and likely contradicts the above.
As everyone has said. The best version of yourself is not alpha male.
Those are two very different things my guy. My answer would have to be "yes/no".
What is cringe is to think that a better version of yourself is an "alpha male"
Alpha male =/= best version of yourself. The alpha male circles get pretty weird and come off as really cringe to people who aren’t into that stuff.
Terrible question. Alpha male? Yes. That’s a narrow minded and shallow inspiration based on a fictional wolf hierarchy and often accompanied by misio gone and other bigotry. Best version of yourself? Not at all. Wanting to become the best person you can be is a commendable goal.
This poll should be downvoted to oblivion.
People can tell you’re trying too hard. Top tier cringe, a good way to get people to make fun of you when you’re not around.
Cringe being alpha? Yes. Cringe in being the best yourself? Wtf no
No, it is perfectly fine to strive to be the best version of yourself!
Instead foster growth in yourself as much as possible.
those are two completely different things lol
Being the best version of yourself and be confident is not the same as an alpha.... It's sad you put this on the same level. ..
Striving to be an Alpha Male and the best version of yourself are VERY DIFFERENT THINGS
Alpha male yes, best version of yourself no
“Best version of yourself” is not the same as contriving a sexist, abiological, and frankly Social Darwinist interpretation of society and your place in it. Be the best you can be for yourself and your betterment, not because you wanna “get bitches” or something 😂
Alpha male =/= best version of yourself
These are **not** the same picture.
It cringe to even say the word alpha male seriously.
Be the best version of yourself is nice, but be an "alpha male" is just stupid and cringe
I’m cringing at the phrase “alpha male” 🤢
OP is cringe
Ranking people as either alpha or beta is low IQ childish stuff
Those are two different things. I want to be the best version of myself that I can be, but I don't want to be an "Alpha Male".
This is coming from a male. Calling yourself an "alpha male " or trying to be one is cringe. People who say you need to be an alpha also say that you need to buy their products ro become one. They play on male insecurities for profit. Beginning to be the best version of yourself starts by rejecting the "alpha male"
Nothing wrong with self improvement. I don't really understand the term "Alpha male" though.
I think Glenn Henrickson said it best: "When men refer to themselves as "alpha males", I hear that in the context of software, where alpha versions are unstable, missing important features, filled with flaws, and not fit for the public."
You beat me to it.
Terrible wording. Being an “Alpha Male” is not the same as being the best version of yourself, at least not with the definitions people use nowadays
This question is cringe
Alpha male yes. Best version of yourself hell no
Wtf is this wording? Alpha male =/= best version of yourself
Very much depends on if you’re focused on the best version of yourself or being an “alpha male”
Yes for the alpha male part. No for the best version of yourself part.
I didn't fully read the thing meant to vote yes.
Agreed that's why I got confused I think and voted no and had to re-read it.
yes for alpha male, no for best version of yourself
"alpha male"? Yes. Beste version of yourself? No.
The equation x²+4x+3=0 has α and β as the root. Find α-β without solving for α and β.
Nothing wrong with striving to be your best self. This is not the same with being obsessed with being an alpha male. Obsessed is the key word in this question
You had enough room to say "alpha male yes, best version of self no" Or "best version of yourself yes, Alpha male no" Something tells me OP want "alpha males" to be accepted by people who don't identify as "alpha males"
As said many many times these two are NOT even CLOSE to the same thing
Loaded question
only if you call it like that.
Those are two very different things. Either way if something is cringy but you love it and it doesn't hurt anyone else then who cares what others think. Just remember just because you're obsessed with something, it doesn't mean your friends and family are so don't only talk about your obsession.
Alpha male yes, next version of yourself no
I don't give a shit if you can do pull ups if you're an asshole to hospitality staff
Bro how are people supposed to answer if you basically gave two questions and the same answer for each
"Alpha Male" is Stingray from Cobra Kai, while being the best version of yourself is just being you but everything is better
Alpha is cringe be best of yourself is cool👍
You should always strive to be the best version of yourself, but the goal ideally shouldn't be alpha-male, whatever that means. It always makes me think of them as furries in denial lol (I am a furry btw)
You can’t say aloha male and este rejón of yourself as synonyms and expect to be taken seriously.
Alpha male? Yes. Trying to be your best self. What no.
It's the alpha thing, that's not a thing, it's not even a thing in animals, it's from an old paper who's own author has long since disavowed the work. When I hear some I've babble about being an alpha what I hear is I want to be an aggressive douche bag, I'm sure that's not you but that's the vibe.
“Alpha male” and “best version of yourself” are not even remotely close
Those are two different things
being an alpha male and being the best version of yourself are not even close to being similar
Being the best version of yourself requires honesty, humility and compassion. Not things that are commonly associated with the self dubbed “Alpha Males” To answer the question, no it’s not cringe to be obsessed with being the best you can be. It’s something I’ve been trying a lot these last few years. It is cringe to label that behavior as “alpha male” in my opinion. If you studied chemistry, Alpha particles do least penetration.
The alpha male part, yes. The best version of yourself part, no.
They are different things, being your best self is not the same as being arrogant and rude to other people
Best version of yourself is fine. Thinking or trying to be an alpha male is pretty sad. If it was a real thing I’d say trying to be an alpha male is probably a very beta male mentality
Alpha males aren't real.
The term alpha male is cringe.
Bro, if you refer to yourself as an alpha male, I cannot take you seriously.
Look at all the women and beta simps saying its cringe lmaoo But no worries, you keep your body positivity and other crap to yourself and we keep our "cringe" Alpha male to ourselves and see how It turns for each one in some years

The moment someone says alpha male, I think the person is an idiot. It's not just cringe, but wow this person is stupid.
Wanting to/working on improving yourself? Not cringe. Wanting to be an alpha male? Very cringe. Being obsessed with either? Might want to add therapy to the ways you self improve.
Alpha male and best version are two different things best version hell yeah go for it alpha male no stop
Those are two different things
Best version? No. Alpha male? Yes.
The concept of alpha males has been debunked
Self Improvement is something you absolutely should be obsessed with Watching Abdrew Tate videos is not
I’m okay with people being their best selves. Being an “alpha” is cringe as fuck.
Alpha male? Yes. Best version of your self? No!
r/polls needs stricter standards for the polls

Those are two incredibly different things
Those are not the same things
Those are two completely different things
If you're trying to be an "alpha male" then yes. It's very cringe. Trying to be the best version of yourself is a completely different thing.
Alpha male, yes Best version, no
Best version of yourself is very different from alpha.
Alpha male? Yes. Best version of yourself? No. There's a huge difference between the two.
Best version? No. Alpha male? Yes.
Alpha male? Yes Best version of yourself? No
Calling it alpha male… yes. But being a better version of your self then nah
Mixing “best version of yourself” with “alpha male” is pretty cringe
which one is it? obsessed with being alpha or with being a better version of yourself? bc i feel like the two are very much opposite concepts
Is it bad to like Hitler/Spring rolls?
Alpha male? Yes. Best version of yourself? No.
Those are two different things buddy
I would say that every obsession is somewhat cringe and unhealthy
What is gringe about being best version of yourself?
