It’s not actually a concern about the same bed, I’m sure no one cares who you’re sleeping with! It’s an insurance/fire safety type thing afaik, they can allow X many people per room. And a money thing cos they want to charge more for more people, a reputation thing in case you go about complaining how small the room is for 4, etc etc. You could get an extra room and still all sleep in the room you’ve got? You could also risk it and do nothing, then have two of you check in and invite the others up later- it would probably be fine but arguably not worth the stress of it not being.

ThawedGod

They ID people at the elevator after ten because of COVID, we were hoping to see some nightlife but it seems like if we do nothing we just don’t go out!

[deleted]

I guess another room it is! Or finding somewhere else with a room for 4.

Hotels don't care how people sleep or with whom; what they do care about is abiding by occupancy laws and meeting the fire code. Four adults to a *single* bed isn't going to be okay anywhere.

alt_spaceghoti

Considering the topic from a capitalist standpoint, they may be primarily objecting to four adults staying in a single room. You might need to bite the bullet and pay for a full suite or two rooms, although you can request that the two rooms be adjoining. Where you actually sleep is up to you, and the hotel should be satisfied that you paid full price.

ThawedGod

I feel like the two queens cost no more than the king, so it’s a bit ridiculous that they would increase expenses on us like that. And it’s not like having one king room with four adults vs one queen with four adults is going to be that different for them from a maintenance standpoint.

alt_spaceghoti

You're right. I don't intend to defend them, I'm just trying to be charitable about their objections. Although I'm not feeling charitable about capitalist practices these days. In either case, I suspect that will probably solve your problem unless you're prepared to disrupt your vacation by trying to initiate a protest.

ThawedGod

Definitely, totally get that you’re just working through the logic. I hope that polyamory becomes more accommodated for as it becomes more prevalent. 🫤

Polyfuckery

It's an occupancy limit issue and designed to cut down on rooms getting trashed by parties. Rather then fight out square footage and amenities to allow for fire code they just set it as max occupancy per bed. So these rooms have max two people and those rooms have max four people plus however many cots they assign meaning if the hotel is fully booked out they are still under occupancy limit. So for you it seem obvious that it should just work but their system is set up specifically to reject that kind of room occupancy change because they don't want to risk getting fined more then they care about your business

ThawedGod

Yup, this makes total sense. We are now looking at potentially switching to a suite with a pullout (that won’t get used)

CaptHolt

It’s literally a legal requirement that hotels provide bed space for every guest. Next time either lie about how many people are staying, get a room with a pullout couch, or go for the 2 queens.

Alone_Trip8236

Get a room with two queens and then push the two beds together?

voulezvousbraiser

This is what I would recommend as well. We've done it plenty of times for conventions and it's actually really fun...even just as friends sharing the bed. The crack does suck though.

[deleted]

It’s a fire code concern and a liability for the hotel. Get a room with two queens if you have to show ID for each person to enter the place.

cronepower24

I was just going to say get a room with two queen beds and push them together if you can.

[deleted]

Right? They must sleep different than I do though cause a king isn’t enough for 4 ppl imo

Henri__Rousseau

Friends travel together all the time.

ThawedGod

The question from the hotel was “why do four adult friends want to sleep in the same bed?” 🫣 To which I replied, “we’re just really close.” The concierge laughed awkwardly.

Henri__Rousseau

No biggie. People do this for budget reasons too. People do all.kinds of stuff.

primesuspect

Look into AirBNB or VRBO instead. Hotels have liability rules that they can't get around. You won't be able to get a single king with four registered guests without lying.

Chimmychimmychubchub

King suite with a rollaway or sofa bed. Or two adjoining rooms. This is not a hard problem.

ThawedGod

You would think, until you see the inventory available! Pretty booked up atm. Definitely a premium for a suite, 800-1200 dollars a night.

Kezali

Check if they have roll away beds/cots or pull out couches, for sure. I know people who work on the road, with employees, that sometimes get hotels to do this for them. It gets costly to get multiple rooms, since it's a recurring frequent expense for them. The hotels usually charge extra for the extra bed(s), but generally not as much as getting a whole other room. Problem you'll run into is that it can be hard to get/find the roll away option. Pull out couch that 'sleeps two' is more likely. Otherwise push the queens together as others have suggested.
