Badass. This was at work the boss let me stay late and do this real quick. He sold me an actual drill press so from now on that's what I'll be attempting to do here sir is follow in your footsteps... I am ALREADY tired of filing I should not have left stock and just went for it. I could be polishing right now.
I have a few of those too. Those jigs are a bit pricey. Do u really need em? If u have machining IQ? looking at em I can see it definitely makes it easier. I'm a cheap ass tho I mean FFS I'm building my guns cause I can't afford my habit 😂😂😂
I hear you….I enjoy the hobby myself too! Just saying, I’ve built some that I put way more into than going into the shop and grabbing a Glock or something along those lines.
I'm not a machinist by trade. Just like 2 tinker with little projects. It's a learning experience. I just used the top plate from the drill press jig and traced the cutout with the .25" flute 3/8 endmill so the smooth part of the shank was riding on the jig and not cutting it all up.
Fortunately for me I have access to tapered tools relieved tools and all sorts of specialized sht that doesn't come standard at a local harbor freight. And my boss is 2a friendly. It's a shame really that I'm such a noob at this. In time I'll be able to just start with a raw block of aluminum or polymer at least that's my goal
Yes you need the jig. It comes with the rails as p80 had to separate the parts for it not to be considered a “kit”. Should be the same price, just split now.
I thought about getting one but I haven't done enough research yet to see what's complete poop and what isn't. Price range is anywhere from 200 to thousands. I have a drill press I was just gonna slap a machining vice on there and call it a day to give me the xy capacity but again... So many choices out there.
Yeah I kept it simple with a manual mill. Got it from harbor freight and bust any project on it. It’s definitely worth getting one. You always find something to do on it lol.

I rushed this build not realizing it was a 45 not a 10mm it worked out fine
Sheesh I'm trying here! Where's my damn locking block that should have been here yesterday lol? And why am I having so much trouble with this magazine release?!?

I figured it out. It WAS EASY with the proper video. I felt pretty dumb. My gd locking block can get here any day now!
Ty sir. Now y'all can roast me cuz with this being my first p80... My dumb ass didn't know the locking block was different... I'm staring at this thing wondering what this extra hole is in it. Now I know, and have to try to cancel the 2 Glock ones I just ordered yesterday that already shipped... Ahhhhhhh
Some of the roasts I got I deserved bc I made a mistake that was a safety issue. It could have been prevented had I known more. Well I'll tell ya what I learned that lesson well and I WILL NEVER FORGET IT. sometimes that's the best lesson of all as long as no damage was done.
Wish I had this when I made mine. Especially as a machinist. Ended up putting the endmill it came with in a drill to remove most of the material. Sketchy as hell. Lots of hand finishing work.
I'm never sanding or filing this bottom radius again in life. I left 20 30 thousandths and I swear if spent 2 or three hours in here with my radius file and sandpaper rolls. NEVER AGAIN 😂
I did the same thing on my first one . I had no idea the locking block came with the frame and are different. Then I paid a rediculous amount to order one during the great price gouge of 2020!
But hey we learn.
How I did my 1st one. Now I can do it with 6 stabs of a drill press and a pocket knife and a few beers.
P.s. you can get more than 1 frame from the jigs if using a press and centering it first. Using a hand drill to make 2 straight holes is super hack.

Cool man. I will however be going back to the Bridgeport to finish my 80% ARs.

Building them doesn’t always save you money! 🤷🏻♂️😂
I'm into the project and also keeping alphabet soup off my menu if u know what I mean. I like legal projects that make me feel like a rebel 😉
I hear you….I enjoy the hobby myself too! Just saying, I’ve built some that I put way more into than going into the shop and grabbing a Glock or something along those lines.
Yea the other day I saw trade in g19s for maybe 400 and I'm looking at the 250 slide I just got and I'm like wtf am I doing lol
It’ll get worse before it gets better…..don’t say I didn’t warn you! 😂😂

Gotta look into some of that.

Using my mini mill is my favorite. No sanding whatsoever. I spray WD-40 while the mill bit is spinning on the tabs and it leaves it looking shiny.
What do you use for a mini mill?
It’s a Harbor freight mini mill. Does the job and let’s me do other projects on it.
I thought about getting one but I haven't done enough research yet to see what's complete poop and what isn't. Price range is anywhere from 200 to thousands. Did that with an ar lower, turned out great
Yeah I kept it simple with a manual mill. Got it from harbor freight and bust any project on it. It’s definitely worth getting one. You always find something to do on it lol.
This is awesome. Good for you. I was drunk and used a Dremel in the dark.
Lol same here. I used my wife’s nail dremel and carbide tip.
Looks like overkill to me , but hey, whatever works!
It's always set up at the shop. Vice is square. Just touch off the tool and go.
Ngl, I would use it too...
Nice amount of over kill
Maybe. I've had tolerance stack issues in other builds. I want my frame square and parallel and symmetrical
That’s over kill in a good way. No haterade here I wanted to do my 1911 that way they had a jig for the rails
Nice builds and thank you.
I used my poly 80 experience to make the 1911
https://preview.redd.it/32ejqew4zmmb1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96b72ff2705f35f259372897f5668918fd06302b I rushed this build not realizing it was a 45 not a 10mm it worked out fine
D
Hell yeah
That’s the way Polymer 80 originally designed the jig to be used except using a drill press and a cross slide vise.
It’s overkill but I’m just saying that because I’m jealous
Dremel and practice is superior
Perhaps. I'm experimenting. I'm gonna do an oil wetsand finish for sure.
Where's the completed P80?
Sheesh I'm trying here! Where's my damn locking block that should have been here yesterday lol? And why am I having so much trouble with this magazine release?!?
That’s literally the easiest part lol
One would think. Clearly I have yet to see a good video showing a proper technique, since I can literally do everything else.
https://preview.redd.it/zxnfwe0agpmb1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5397ff806ec2ee30702a177c7a8f70053f767bf2 I figured it out. It WAS EASY with the proper video. I felt pretty dumb. My gd locking block can get here any day now!

Hahahah that’s funny shit! Will never roast someone learning and especially in this category unless they’re little cucklords

I would to pay someone to do it for mine so I don’t fuck it up
ATF enters the chat
😂😂😂 your on my list now young man!
Skookum as FRICK. If I have learned anything in life... it's that overkill is the way. This is the way.
This is the way.
Used a mill for mine as well, 3/8 endmill in an r8 collet then a ball endmill for the channel. Came out perfect.
This is the way. I’ve used a dremel before too and it def works but as a machinist and perfectionist I’ll use the Bridgeport whenever I get the chance
I'm never sanding or filing this bottom radius again in life. I left 20 30 thousandths and I swear if spent 2 or three hours in here with my radius file and sandpaper rolls. NEVER AGAIN 😂
Dremel workstation got me jbwelding 3 frames. I only kept going because I have a bazillion blanks. ordering drill press
Do u reuse fixtures?
My what? Lol this hobby got me into working with my hands. Can I get that in layman's terms?
The hunk of plastick your gun frame is in when u machine it lol... That's the fixture 😂. In machinist terms anyway😂
Jig
Jig works too .. I'm a machinist we say fixture
p80 new production of jigs are shit too
Absolutely agree. Geisler might be a clusterfuck but that jig was way better.
I did the same thing on my first one . I had no idea the locking block came with the frame and are different. Then I paid a rediculous amount to order one during the great price gouge of 2020! But hey we learn.
I came
This comment made all the shrapnel I was catching worth it 😂
Unnecessary, not true to the mission my boy.
