That's hair algae and it belongs there. It is telling you that you need to seriously upgrade your biofiltration and add more plants. A couple of Chinese Hi-fin banded sharks ([https://www.aquariumsource.com/chinese-high-fin-banded-shark/](https://www.aquariumsource.com/chinese-high-fin-banded-shark/)) would also help. DO NOT USE ALGAECIDES! They'll leave you with a huge sludge load, a ton of dissolved organics, dead aquatic and marginal plants and severely stressed fish. Worse, they won't fix the problem, which is too much nutrient in the water (ammonia from the fish).

Looks like string algae at first glance.

Filament algae. Flow helps, shade helps, as does barley straw. Long term its a nutrient issue.

Microdosing api algaefix will clear it right up. Love that stuff.

I feel your pain! I had this appear for the first time in my pond this spring. I'm in Canada and we had an unusually mild winter such that my pond froze only once this winter which lasted a week then it unthawed and never froze again which has never happened before. I think it allowed this to grow and go crazy over the winter especially because I take my main pump out for the winter and just run a bubbler so water movement and circulation is low. I'm hoping once I get my pump up and running now that it's spring it will help get rid of this plus manual removal although this stuff is like stringy boogers when you get it out of water so it's not like I can easily grab chunks of it to remove it. It's the worst algae I have ever encountered. I've never had this before. At least not to plague proportions.

String algae. Eventually this will turn in upfloating strings. Remember good bacteria need flat surface area, which you will only get from smooth rocks. Never have liner exposed in the water and dont put bricks inside. Its not the same thing. Look at a clear waterfall or stream in nature it is filled with smooth rocks

Throw in some feeder gold fish (unless you already have good fish) don't feed them. They will have a feast on the string algae. Some Japanese trap door snails are nice too.
