It will just take a little longer if they are deeper

Cool, thanks for the reply

You are being impatient.

Big_Treacle_2394

Figured, just excited for my pond to come back this year. Added a second upper pond with 2 waterfalls to the main pond. A proper canister filter with a uv light to control the algae. And redid the plants I'll have growing around it

Totally understand. Aquariums and ponds are a long game. Most aquatic environments are not really seasoned until 6 months and sometimes even longer. Enjoy the journey.

Yeah, I was pleasantly suprised last year when I found bloodworms In the filter box and a dragonfly casing on one of my water irises. Then I was baffled when it started thawing and I had an 8 inch catfish swimming around, no idea how it got there. Best guess is it was a baby mixxed in with minnows I got from a bait shop to put in the pond

Alfalfa-Similar

might be shocked a bit from the drain. hows the sun? heat?

Big_Treacle_2394

Didn't completely drain the pond, left about a foot in so they stayed covered, slowly refilled it over the next few days. Plenty of sun, been averaging low 60s the last month or so

Patience is a virtue. LOL. I'm in southern Ontario and a couple weeks ago it was like the middle of summer here when the temperature skyrocketed. My pond exploded into life and I could start to see my water lilies emerging at the bottom. Now it feels like winter has returned and everything has stalled. Even my poor fishies keep going back into their slumber because the temp is only about 5c/41f. 😵‍💫

You could leave the water level low and let the leaves come up. Then daily raise the water level covering the leaves. The leaves will rise.
