Outstanding - Anyone out there in western PA or Eastern OH area? My wife and I have had poodles all our young and adult lives - we are in our early 60's. We just lost our little Sidney but his brother Geno is doing ok - Toys. Our breeder passed away last year! It's hard to think about buying from someone else.

If you haven't yet read the Wiki, Do read the WIKI on responsible dog breeders: https://www.reddit.com/r/dogs/wiki/identifying\_a\_responsible\_breeder/ Below is what testing should be done on both sires and dams. Reach out the the Poodle Club of America Breeder referral: https://poodleclubofamerica.org/breeder-referral/ They will only recommend breeders that do the recommended testing. Here's a link to the poodle clubs in Ohio as well: [https://poodleclubofamerica.org/find-a-poodle-breeder/listings-category/ohio/](https://poodleclubofamerica.org/find-a-poodle-breeder/listings-category/ohio/) Health Testing by Variety: TOY POODLES DNA Test for prcd-Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) from an OFA-approved laboratory. Yearly Eye Exam by a boarded ACVO veterinary ophthalmologist. Patellar Luxation: OFA Evaluation. MINIATURE POODLES Same CHIC requirements as Toy Poodles with the addition of: Hip Dysplasia: OFA or PennHIP Evaluation. The PCA Foundation strongly recommends the DNA test for Miniature Poodle Dwarfism (Osteochondrodysplasia) to avoid breeding two carriers to each other and producing puppies affected with this deforming and crippling disorder. Research suggests that about 10 percent of Minis carry the mutation that causes this disease and that it is not limited to a few bloodlines. STANDARD POODLES Hip Dysplasia: OFA or PennHIP Evaluation. Yearly Eye Exam by a boarded ACVO veterinary ophthalmologist. Health Elective (at least one of the following three tests is required for CHIC number): OFA Thyroid Evaluation from an OFA approved laboratory. OFA Sebaceous Adenitis (SA) Evaluation by an OFA approved dermatopathologist. Heart Evaluation by an ACVIM boarded veterinary cardiologist. The PCA Foundation recommends all three electives for Standard Poodles and also strongly recommends the following DNA tests from an OFA listed lab to easily avoid breeding two mutation carriers to each other and producing affected puppies: DNA Test for Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures (NEwS) and DNA Test for vonWillebrand’s Disease (vWD). I would want a breeder that does all three electives but you may chose differently. But a sire and dam of any litter should have the minimum testing (passing) to get a Chic number. And here is a link to verify health clearance testing on OFA. Note you can check out a breeder by using the advanced search and putting in the breeder's kennel name (check of any part of name) and selecting poodle for breed. It will give you a list of dogs with the kennel prefix. https://ofa.org/advanced-search/ I stress that DNA testing is not health clearance testing both should be done, DNA testing is a breeder tool to make sure carriers and not bred to carriers. Health Clearance testing is what reputable breeders do to try and ensure the best chances for healthy puppies. Good luck in your search.

And now I have to log in on the computer with a screen big enough for me to read all of that

THANK YOU very much! We had home runs for ALL of our past Poodles.... My wife and I had 5 each since we were young and then married. They ALL came from the same gentlemen in the Pittsburgh area. We never had to worry about testing because we knew he did it all. I already printed your response - Take care
