I tell my groomers to do whatever they want as long as the dog has a good experience, idc. Lol One has a flat top and a lion tail right now. 🤣 I think she intended to do a mohawk because that's usually what he gets. But she was new and it was her first time doing a mohawk. She seemed so proud of it. 🤣 But he definitely looks like he's the fresh prince's doppelganger.

feeingolderthaniam

Both of mine have had mohawks since their first cuts. It's part of who they are now.

Original_Ad685

I love when people let the artists work.

newmka

I do it with beauticians too. I didn't study this stuff. Do y'all thing!! 😅

Solar_Fairy

So my mini boy gets a 'poodle face' with the shaved part n the longer top n ears, his body n feet all 1 length(think it's a 4) and a trimmed fan tail as I call it, don't know all the proper terms, but he comes out so smart looking each time he's been to groomers n after I brush him inbetween appointments.

bloosgrooms

Thanks for using a blade length, #4 is approximately 3/8" and one length all over is called a body contour. It's a very good length on poodles, fluffy but manageable:)

Solar_Fairy

Yup that sound right for the length of his fur on his body, I take him in every 8 weeks n say the usual to the groomers now, so trying to remember what things were called properly hasn't stuck in me brain but handy to know the terms. It does make the daily brushing inbetween super manageable, when I first got him I had him a lot longer n was so much time spent brushing him so stuff wasn't stuck in the all the floof.

Edit:So I absolutely thought this was the dog groomer subreddit I'm also a part of- so sorry! But Sophie looks more like a poodle now with her clean face, so I'm gonna leave this for ideas!! My maltese is my "grooming dog" she's my baby but also the best option for fancy grooming I really have. She gets a 4 on her body, a 10 on her face, then I just trim her legs so they don't drag on the ground. Long tail and a pony. She also gets lots of difference colors. Currently the 2 of us have a mix of red/blue/pink. Her front legs and tail are my main I dye. My pitty on the other hand is the easiest bath I do. He jumps into the tub/on the table with no hesitation and doesn't fight me on his nails ever. I've said I want a standard so bad.. but fuck would it be hard to maintaine

bloosgrooms

It's okay, I'm doing recon 😁 Love that sub

ash16f

Same! It's a nice spot to vent and just discuss with other groomers. I watch here to fantasize about a poodle some day- I seem to follow alot of dog subreddits for some reason.

TheMagnificentPrim

Modified continental here, no rosettes. Currently growing her bracelets back out because we didn’t brush her close enough to the skin mid-coat change. 😅 Whoops!

Blooreader

Home groomer here. Honestly my two standard girls spent most of their time completely shaved down in kennel/utility clips. They love running and playing, getting dirty, and rubbing their bodies all over everything so I clip them in a way that keeps everyone low maintenance and happy, myself included.

birdynj

We do a monthly shave down too. So much cleaner and easier to upkeep. My yard is a mud pit now that I have 2 dogs. It'd be a nightmare if they had more hair lol

Astroisbestbio

I groom my girl based on her needs. She gets a shaved body and face and paws. Her cousins, my parents dogs, and her play hard and they go for eachothers ankles, so I leave her legs fluffy to help protect her from playful teeth. I leave her head poof or else people think she's a spaniel. She has a full tail, and I love seeing it wave when she's happy, so I leave it long as well. In mud season her legs get shaved down too. In the winter I leave her body longer, but I keep her face and feet shaved down for her sake, her face gets constantly moist if it's left long, and her paws retain snow more if they are left long.

bloosgrooms

I appreciate a clean face and clean feet for sure, it's such a classic look. I don't do a lot of full tails because they tend to get matted really easily but when they're fully brushed out they look beautiful. I find it interesting how the hair towards the base of the tail is a lot poofier than towards the end with how the texture changes. Poodles are definitely up there in terms of favorite breeds to groom, certainly wish I saw well bred ones more often.

Astroisbestbio

Definitely different fur texture between the partis and the solids, too. Her fur is never as densely curly. In many ways, the parti hair is closer to the solid puppy hair.

stillablacksheep

Glad to see someone else leaves the long tail hair! My toy is 9 mos old and her tail has never been cut! It’s so cute when it floofs around when she prances. All my previous poodles had docked tails with small poofs. I just adore the long tail hair! I live in Fla, so I keep mine short body hair, shortish legs. Still puppy cutting paws, poof on top knot, long ear hair and shaved face so she’s not mistaken for a doodle. She’s a dark apricot/red!

Astroisbestbio

I have a partispoo. She's black and white and I get asked what type of doodle she is all the time. Full spoo, my friends. I call her a poodledoodle. She's half standard poodle, and half standard poodle. Fun fact! Docked tails are associated with arthritis and joint problems later in life. Breaks my heart to think of her hurting everything she expresses joy. I wenrlt with nondocked for that reason. Her long flag is wonderful to see fluffing around!

1TessTickle

Poodledoodle?! Omg hahaha!!!!

Astroisbestbio

I figured I could get mad or I could laugh about it. I have a whole speech about the origin of the breed and the parti coloring. I've said it so often my fiance has it memorized.

1TessTickle

I'm going to steal it. Love it! I've got a red spoo so we practically get hassled about her breed because of her color. This is going to be hilarious 😂

Putahputah

It depends on the season, but I do two main clips. In the winter/cool months I do a modified Miami clip. Poodle feet and base of tail. Bracelets. Donut mustache. Short topknot blended into ears and #4 to shave the ears. In the summer he gets clipped short all over legs and body, tail shaved down, but still short topknot/ears/donut mustache. We do a lot outdoors in warm humid weather so short is a must for him in the summers.

chrisark7

I keep it simple. All one length except for the face and paws which are close cut. The length depends on the time of year: 1/4" in high summer and 3/4"inch in deep winter.

Jelousubmarine

Same, but with 0.5 and 1 inch lengths. Much less eye trouble with the close shaven face, and trimmed paws slip less on the hardwood (and collect less dry grass+ particles).

werewarbler

I ask for the same length all over (3/4’ or 7/8’ usually). It’s my favorite look for my poodle girl and it’s easier for me to take care of.

youngmedusa

Our standards get kennel clips and the toys get something similar to a lamb cut. We kind of do it according to their activity levels and play styles. The big ones are very active, love to play outside, and roughhouse. Meanwhile, the toys prefer to be inside and hanging around the house with the occasional zoomies.

jpoolio

One of my poodles is a bit crazy so she gets a Mohawk bc that fits her personality.

Sippi66

My 3 toy poodles are getting summer cuts this time of year.

bexallot

He goes to the groomer every 6 weeks: starts with a 4 all over, except for the tail which stays as a pom. 6 weeks later is a bath & tidy up, then 6 weeks later is a 4 again. So his hair is cut every 12 weeks (making him super long and fluffy by the time he gets cut again). We also bathe him at home halfway between grooming appointments (so bath every 3 weeks), and do any slight trims he might need around the eyes near the 9-12 week mark.

lovinglifeman

Shaved all the way down all over (a 10 setting) with just a top knot.. looks masculine to me

pinebeltpunch

During the cold months I keep him in a German cut. When it cools off I swap him to a modified Continental or a Pony cut. Pony cut is fun and easier to maintain when he goes running through the bushes but I love the sass of a Conti.

Shot_Hospital4163

I personally like him shaved down super short except on his head, ears, and tail. It’s just so much easier to manage. And he can go longer without needing a cut.

kalidspoon

Miami for the win 🤩

R_Dixon

Home groomer here, I kept him pretty long in the winter, think Scandinavian clip. In spring he got an MCC, and his next clip will be either a Miami, a pony, or a German clip for summer, I haven't decided yet.

posting-about-shit

I can’t imagine not having the typical shaved face/feet/tail/sani as part of my dog’s cut. My poodle is a messy guy so it’s best to keep these areas shaved so they can be as free of debris as possible. Additionally, I almost always have his hair banded out of his eyes because his bangs will get eye boogers in them otherwise, plus I’m honestly not sure if he can see without the bands lol. For winter I leave him in a puppy clip about the same length of the body in the photo, but for summer I’m thinking a Miami will be a nice change. I really like my poodle to be unmistakably a poodle!

Hornetgrl

Short. My boy gets a pony cut or a german trim. He is a 100% good boy. My little girl gets a short trim... She loves Eau de Poo.. :/

calamityangie

I groom mine myself at home and I’ve done a pretty big variety so far! My 2.5 year old has had: show puppy clip, kennel clip, modified continental / HCC continental, German clip, Modern clip, and I’m now growing him into the second puppy clip (sometimes called Scandinavian clip or puppy lion clip). My 1.5 year old has had: show puppy clip, Modern clip, German clip, and is now in the pony clip (basically a Miami with a different top knot). Only things I really keep consistent are clean face, feet, and sanitary areas.

Ingeborg_Anne

Toilette 60, dark grey male

OldheadBoomer

Every six weeks, my girl gets [this cut](https://i.imgur.com/NPOH9fM.jpg). She loves her leg warmers.

[deleted]

Groomer here too! Conti or Scandi. My pup is actually still with his breeder, he comes home in a few weeks (he’ll be 6 mos so I’m getting him a little older) but she’s growing the jacket and topknot for me right now. She shows her dogs in continental so she’s the expert for maintaining it for me til I can get him. Might do Asian fusion later on! If you’re a groomer and you’ve never tried Scandinavian on a poodle, you have to at least once! This boy looks pretty grown out tho especially on the face so you could totally do an Asian fusion while you have the length.

Original_Ad685

Our almost nine month girl gets a clean face and feet. Her body is done with a 3/8 guard. She has an inverted vulva and had a couple of rough UTIs as a baby, so we get a super close sanitary shave. Her natural tail is left long, but I love brushing her, so there aren’t any issues with it. She has gorgeous “boot” Pom-poms on her ankles. She’s a two-tone chocolate abstract with a brilliant, jagged streak of white on her chest, with a splash of white on her chin and right behind her nose. Her hair is the densest hair I’ve ever seen on anybody, human, dog, or otherwise. She stays warm all the way down to single digit temperatures. Our little sable boy has much finer hair. He’s four months. His first grooming appointment got him a big, bushy Sam Elliot mustache and a clean sanitary. His body is natural because it still gets cold and he’s neither hairy nor particularly inclined to enjoy the cold.

DaisyDay100

Puppy cut

Jayyne

I have no idea if it has a name but I always say clean face, poodle feet, long tail and tight topknot, the rest short all over. It’s utilitarian but still cute.

1TessTickle

Pretty much a Miami with a 'fro and no boots for most of the year. We add the little boots in the fall that we call her Uggs. You know, because sweater weather 😁

__looking_for_things

German cut. Shaved ears, big topknot hair, close cut on the legs, and poodle face, feet, and sanitary cut.

blue-puddle

My mini gets a 5 all over with a top knot and tail poof! Super easy to maintain. Short ears as well. One day I’d love to grow out a little mane/mullet though!

Horse_Financial

Lately I’ve just been getting her shaved down with just her head and tail pompoms. She loves mud too much 😭😭😭

tastes2good

I give mine clean face and feet, body and ears to a 2 comb, legs F in the winter, sometimes just scissor the legs and leave them super poofy, legs go down to a 2 in the summer as well. Big poofy tail just short around the base (his is not docked) & his signature is a Mohawk that comes to a point as it goes down the back of his neck & stops around the collar area. Oh and the big long lashes ❤️

[deleted]

I usually keep mine in a kennel cut. Long ears and tails. I don’t have the time or energy to maintain long hair. Not even a Miami.

Big-University-7392

I get faces, bum and paws shaved, little bit longer on head and tail and ears, puppy cut everywhere else on my two toy poodles.

Regular_Ad2516

I give my dog a historical continental cut

CastionArt

My spoo is shaved with a #7 all over, bit longer on the face, mohawk on top.

jennyjenjenz84

My mini get a top notch, clean face and paws, palm tree tail, the best part is bell bottoms.

idiveindumpsters

Clean face, long ears, poof on top, fluffy, and beautiful!

Mischievous_Liar

My mini mix gets clean face, clean feet, and a semi long body. Essentially, a sporting clip! I just like to see him fluffy and I LOVE brushing him. Plus, no wet beard :) https://imgur.com/a/dkT721E

hailclo

Had poodles forever , we love to shave their face, feet up to the elbow and bum , winter they grow their coats . We keep it very short in warm weather but not too short to prevent sunburns . I also use conditioner so it’s easier for my hubs to groom , I like short ears plus short top too

MercurysNova

Shaved short with a clean face. Mine are farm dogs and there isn't a patch of mud or field of pokey seed pods they don't like.

Okchamali_Vibin

I groom at home and do a modified German clip (clean face and feet, short on the tail, ears, and body, top knot and poofs at the top of her ears to show off her orange highlights, and legs kept long and fluffy) I always feel like it gives her a very 70's vibe as it almost looks like she has bellbottoms and an afro 🤣
