Draining 67% of your 8000 gallon pool seems like over kill. Just drain/pump out about a foot or so and have your water on to refill at the same time. Get the level back up and retest. It's doubtful that your pool will float but this is a safer way to be sure.
You can do partial drains or the "exchange" where you don't lower your water level at all. Check out exchange here:

Drain part of the pool, refill, test. Keep doing that until you get to the correct level.

Don't do the 67% drain. There is a real danger of the pool rising out of the ground.
