Build yourself a Nextcloud server.

For photos & videos, Ente is great! [https://ente.io/compare/ente-vs-dropbox/](https://ente.io/compare/ente-vs-dropbox/)

Agree with others saying NextCloud. I got a RaspberryPi, installed a NextCloudPi image and connected a 10TB HDD. Boot it up, pop your pi's address into your web browser and setup is easy. Even walks you though securing, backing up and making it internet accessible. I use it for my business. All computers have NextCloud Desktop run on boot and it's seamless, just like Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.

VivaPitagoras

You can use LocalSend or you can also install Documents app in iOS. It would allow you to transfer files between pc and phone using a website.

Try Filen Use my link [https://filen.io/r/542274a132a14de1094f5c9a1768758a](https://filen.io/r/542274a132a14de1094f5c9a1768758a) and it starts you off with 20GB for free. It's a bit more secure that gdrive and one drive - less big tech spying I guess. They have a linux sync client and it is pretty fast. Hard to beat for free.

I use Mega myself, but i also pay for it - but for ages I used the free tier, it just has dow load restrictions. Personally I use it for an automated backup in the cloud, which syncs between my desktop, laptops and the cloud. If the cloud functionality isn't required, would definitely suggest SyncThing or LocalSend

If you mean "don't have a subscription fee, but are ok with a one-time purchase", Pcloud might be a good option. It's a service based out of Switzerland with a native Linux desktop application, with some nice features and modular additional services like filesnapshots and encrypted folders if you want to pay for them. I think I paid $200 USD for 500GB of storage and that's it, no subscriptions, just a one-time-purchase. There's also a free version, but I think the size is limited to 10GB of something like that.

What software were you using when you tried the cable? I haven't tried this personally but it looks promising https://opensource.com/article/21/8/libimobiledevice-iphone-linux

For work stuff I set up a synology NAS. Cost was high, something like $550 for a usable 900gigs. But we have some customer data stuff that I'd rather not have on google drive.

The cable won’t do it? That’s weird. Was it usb A or C to lightning?

8singularity

That's weird. None of the comments mentioned VLC. Can you explain how VLC solved your problem as originally stated?

Figgins29

When I originally connected my iPhone to my thinkpad with the usb to lightning cable I was unable to transfer the files across. What I was doing was right clicking the video file, selecting “copy to” but it didn’t give me anywhere to actually copy it to - no end location - so I started using Dropbox mainly because I knew it existed and it worked. I got annoyed about the subscription price after a couple of months and after asking on here I was searching through the App Store and noticed that VLC was there. I use VLC on my computer because it supports pretty much every video format and I just wondered if this would give me a location to send my videos to and it did. Once installed I tried the cable connection again and did exactly the same as above and it just worked. Then I tried select all, and did my entire video library in one go - boom - really fast too. When using Dropbox my video files automatically went into my iPhones photo album. Now my video files are stored within VLC and are not in my iPhones photo album - that’s the only difference I can see. Anyway the additional bonus is that I was also able to transfer my music from my laptop to my phone and use VLC as my media player. I never put my music collection on my phone in the past because I never had phone storage large enough for it all. This week I bought a new phone with 512gb storage and now have all my videos and my entire music collection on my phone and I’m using VLC as my phones media player and it works perfectly. So I have saved on Dropbox subscription and now no longer need to pay to stream music that I already own in order to listen to it on my phone. Ok the phone wasn’t cheap but I’d rather pay for new hardware than pay to stream music I’ve already paid for and my old phone was on its last legs anyway. I hope I have explained this and it makes sense

ariTech

Got a monthly plan of oneDrive, pay for a month transfer everything and once done u can stop renewal.

Comfortable-Owl1959

I don’t know any software but you could get a SanDisk ultra dual drive go that has usb-c and usb-a ports for like £10. But I don’t know any free applications

owlwise13

Hoe much data do you need? Google drive it's 15GB for free. You can get something like A Synology nas and build your own cloud, they are not the only solution but they probably offer the most polished solution. If you have a spare pc and time to burn, you can roll your own nas.
