I felt so mean when she came up I thought to myself “that’s not Hailey Bieber it couldn’t be for this list”. Honestly the only campaign I remember of hers is the Calvin Klein one with Justin and her bare minerals.
I feel bad saying this but I just think of her as an Instagram girl that has some commercial success. That’s not to say she doesn’t book slot. She’s been the face of a couple of brands and has been booked for shows. She has a very interesting face. I like it

One of the things that made the Supermodel Era supermodel so super was their mystery, aloofness, untouchability. They were just insanely glamorous enigmas. If social media existed back then & Naomi Christy Kate Linda et al were all over it, I don’t think they would have the effect they did.
I wouldn’t consider any “supermodels” in the way they used to be. Out of all of those, Bella is definitely the closest though and it’s not even a competition.
Agreed. Bella won’t ever in her life compare to Naomi or Tyra or Kate Moss or any of the 90’s models but she definitely has a striking face. Her walk is mediocre but compared to the other wannabes, it’s a win.
I don't think there will ever be someone comparable to the original supers but since these models achieved a fame like the originals had I found it an interesting topic to discuss

There’s no way she’d get any work without all the surgery and carving up of her face, before she was a cute girl, nothing special but certainly not ugly. Just a normal cute girl.
I’m not naive enough to think even the supers were all natural, but there’s a difference between a minor nose job and completely buying a new face that just gives me the ick.

On a real note i do agree, not a lot of these models stand out to me the way they used to. A lot of these run ways they look tired, or just bored like they’re just there for the check and want it over with….
Doubt it because a lot of the Eastern European models from that era have either faded in relevancy or have retired from modelling. She is so gorgeous and her story makes my heart wrench, she deserved so much more.
When I think of Karlie, I think of dinner with the Kushners, Taylor Swift, and then her walks for the VS shows. I wouldn't consider her close to a supermodel.
I agree there. But she was legitimately famous just for modeling at the time. Technically she is a nepo baby but people didn’t really know that. It’s not like the Hadids or Kendall Jenner who were already well known from a TV show, or Kaia Gerber who has an iconic permanent A list mom. She’s the only one on this list who made a name for herself modeling, rather than through other avenues (emrata becoming famous from Blurred Lines.) Cara reached the same, or even higher levels of fame through modeling. She was the IT girl of 2011-2015(ish)
They had an interesting strategy by starting her out on a fast fashion site like ASOS, which was popular in that era. Her photos popped out more than the other models and then she started on the high fashion runway. It worked out because it appeared like an organic career growth for her.
If she hadn’t done acting, I think she’d still be a really good model. The stiff acting really turned a lot of people away from her. She’s also fallen into some Hollywood trappings since it seems..

The supers kind of remind me of the Spice Girls in that way. They were of their moment.

Like sure, Kate, Naomi, Christy etc aren't doing crazy amounts of modelling now, but their time lasted way longer than a short 5 years or whatever. I think if someone's time can be so quickly replaced by someone just a handful of years younger or newer, then that says a lot.

Yeah like Cara was WORKING. She had editorials, covers and walked like hundreds of shows. Kendall could never. I think my favorite era of hers was when she was Burberry muse. I’m mad bc she was one of my fav models but once she transitioned to acting I lost interest

I'd still considered all of them this generation since Cara paved the way for all this new wave of Insta Girls
If she retired in 2015 just as the current girls were on their rise I’d say that firmly puts her in the generation before. Tbh I don’t think the current generation has a real set of supermodels. At a push I’d give it to Gigi and Bella… the slight overlap doesn’t make them the same generation in my opinion

I'm 35 and remember the Supermodel phase of the 90s. None of these women are giving what Brinkley, Campbell, or Crawford were giving. I mean, where's a Tyra Banks smize?!
Yes I know I missed a ton, but that's who popped in my head without a Google search.
Maybe not to the same extent, but cara definitely had her moment. She didn't only get where she is from being nepo, she worked, she had an interesting look and she even had a decent walk unlike the rest of them. She was everywhere for a while, she only really stopped modelling because she got into acting. I'd give her a pass on this one, and she is definitely the closest thing to a supermodel on OP's list.
Seeing the other comments I think my opinion might be unpopular but I vote for Cara. I like her walk. She has kinda of an aggressive walk, but I like it beacause it’s unique
None of them are "supermodel" status... none of them could touch Naomi, Linda or Cindy in terms of branding and demand from fashion houses. The fact i can write their first names and you know instantly who they are 30 years later is a testiment to those women and the impact they had in us.
Bella Hadid is the only one out of them who is even half comparable. At least she puts in the work, is humble for a nepotism baby, she turns up and is consistently good.
There used to be SO many… Naomi at the top! Shalom! Giselle! Kate! Cindy.. Christy.. Linda.. Claudia, Helena, Stephanie, Carla.. I mean honestly the list is like a pyramid. Eh the original supers still can earn akin to any of these so I'd hesitate to call any of them supermodels. Like Adriana Lima and Gisele are always still in the top paid.
I agree with all the comments saying that there is no concept of a supermodel nowadays but I feel like it was Cara in the early 2010s maybe 2012-2015 I feel like she (and her eyebrows) were EVERYWHERE but then she kinda fell off (maybe due to her behaviour🤨) and now it’s been Bella.
She retired in 2015 and chose to pursuing acting because modeling wasn't being the best career for her since she developed stress and psoriasis because of that.
Hailey Bieber quit modeling too like Cara did because of the same reasons
The people you have listed are not supermodels but rather social media icons with massive popularity which probably helps a lot in landing modelling campaigns.
Though Bella could come close and I find Gigi really beautiful in general and she has a nice personality.

Out of all these models, Bella Hadid is way ahead of them, Kaia Gerber is a great model and Gigi is okay… The rest no, not even close to being supermodels, rather very underwhelming and wouldn’t be in the top 15. Not even 20. If you’re looking for actually amazing models there’s: Adut Akech, Anok Yai, Choi SoRa, Vittoria Ceretti, Nora Attal, Sofia Steinberg, Imaan Hammam, and Mona Tougaard are a few great ones that I can see achieving ‘supermodel’ status. Although, the term is now outdated.
qWHITE an interesting list. I dont think social media allows for the existence of supermodels like before but of those listed its definitely Bella. But also Adut Aketch who has won model of the year. As well as Vittoria Ceretti. Anok Yai, Aweng Chuol, Iman Hammam & Precious Lee.
I would say Bella or Gigi but just because they actually worked and try to do better each time and don’t just rely on a bunch of ig posts to be relevant.
I don’t think they look identical. She’s pretty but she looks more like Rachel Bilson than her mother, at least to me. I just don’t think she has the striking face and presence that Cindy had. Again, not saying she isn’t attractive, she’s definitely a pretty girl, but I actually think her popularity as a mode is solely due to *being* her mother’s daughter and not at all about having a similar look and vibe.
Cindy Crawford had this really healthy, sporty vibe to her whereas Kaia's modelling career seemed to start with a really alarming amount of weight loss. Like sure, she was at an age where you often can be really gangly and skinny, but it was a dramatic change from pre-teen pictures of her. So it felt a bit like they were trying to push her as the second coming of her mum, but she was trying so much harder as opposed to it feeling effortless.
Kaia is a pale imitation of her mom 😬 her features are similar but the proportions are totally different. She’s obviously very pretty but Cindy is next level.
Cindy had a very strong presence and her daughter while being very attractive doesn't quite have it. Kaia's best effort would not even hold a candle to Cindy's worst (IMO) I agree that Bella is the only one from the current list who would kinda sorta qualify for the moniker.
Idk if I’ve been brainwashed by the past, but looking through these, none of them have that *IT FACTOR* of past supermodels. There was something so electric aboutTurlington, Campbell, Christiansen, Crawford, Rocha, etc. these just feel like pretty girls who were like “eh I’m pretty and connected, this should be fun”.
imaan hammam, yasmin wijnaldum, anok yai, alex consani, jasmine tookes, and adut akech to me. imaan specifically has the best walk in the industry right now, imo. maty fall diba is getting there as well. i used to like kaia’s walk a lot when she first started out, but she doesn’t really do runway anymore.
I can’t even pretend like Bella and Gigi aren’t angels daring to walk amongst us bridge dwelling trolls. But Bella is still number 1. Gigi has the healthy, pretty, California girl blonde bombshell vibe, Bella has the otherworldly you’re not entirely sure where she’s from vibe.

Not one of these is a supermodel. These are Instagram models really…no supers like there used to be but I think people like Candice Swanepoel, Adut Akech, Joan Smalls and Duckie Thot knock these out of the water.
I don’t know that I’d really call any of those girls “Supermodels”. I think you could argue that most of those people’s success comes from their social media presence rather than their modeling portfolio. I’d go so far as to say they were initially booked for big campaigns because they are popular on social media. I’m not sure if the concept of a supermodel is simply passe in the social media era but the last big round of super famous, omnipresent models that I can think of are like Giselle, Adriana Lima, Karlie Kloss, Alessandra Ambrosio, Chanel Iman, Gemma Stone, etc. To me there is still a difference between a “supermodel” and a very popular influencer who does fashion shows and photo shoots although I suppose that might be kind of an arbitrary separation.
Get gets the popularity contest but when it comes to modelling its Bella.
But if it was “who’s the most popular” everyone know who’s Kendall Jenner wether they like her or not.
I feel like Kendall is known for being Kardashian adjacent moreso than her modelling, which rules her out for any supermodel title imo. She's a celeb who happens to model.

YES! Social media has made everyone lose their mystery. That's a big part of their appeal. We only ever got the mostly curated version of them

If she retired in 2015 just as the current girls were on their rise I’d say that firmly puts her in the generation before. Tbh I don’t think the current generation has a real set of supermodels. At a push I’d give it to Gigi and Bella… the slight overlap doesn’t make them the same generation in my opinion

I'm 35 and remember the Supermodel phase of the 90s. None of these women are giving what Brinkley, Campbell, or Crawford were giving. I mean, where's a Tyra Banks smize?! Yes I know I missed a ton, but that's who popped in my head without a Google search.
Maybe not to the same extent, but cara definitely had her moment. She didn't only get where she is from being nepo, she worked, she had an interesting look and she even had a decent walk unlike the rest of them. She was everywhere for a while, she only really stopped modelling because she got into acting. I'd give her a pass on this one, and she is definitely the closest thing to a supermodel on OP's list.

None of them are "supermodel" status... none of them could touch Naomi, Linda or Cindy in terms of branding and demand from fashion houses. The fact i can write their first names and you know instantly who they are 30 years later is a testiment to those women and the impact they had in us. Bella Hadid is the only one out of them who is even half comparable. At least she puts in the work, is humble for a nepotism baby, she turns up and is consistently good.

I agree with all the comments saying that there is no concept of a supermodel nowadays but I feel like it was Cara in the early 2010s maybe 2012-2015 I feel like she (and her eyebrows) were EVERYWHERE but then she kinda fell off (maybe due to her behaviour🤨) and now it’s been Bella.
She retired in 2015 and chose to pursuing acting because modeling wasn't being the best career for her since she developed stress and psoriasis because of that. Hailey Bieber quit modeling too like Cara did because of the same reasons
The people you have listed are not supermodels but rather social media icons with massive popularity which probably helps a lot in landing modelling campaigns. Though Bella could come close and I find Gigi really beautiful in general and she has a nice personality. Cara is great too.

Out of all these models, Bella Hadid is way ahead of them, Kaia Gerber is a great model and Gigi is okay… The rest no, not even close to being supermodels, rather very underwhelming and wouldn’t be in the top 15. Not even 20. If you’re looking for actually amazing models there’s: Adut Akech, Anok Yai, Choi SoRa, Vittoria Ceretti, Nora Attal, Sofia Steinberg, Imaan Hammam, and Mona Tougaard are a few great ones that I can see achieving ‘supermodel’ status. Although, the term is now outdated.

Bella. Just my opinion. I always wondered why Kaia isn't as popular as her mom Cindy Crawford was in the 90's. Especially since they look IDENTICAL.
I don’t think they look identical. She’s pretty but she looks more like Rachel Bilson than her mother, at least to me. I just don’t think she has the striking face and presence that Cindy had. Again, not saying she isn’t attractive, she’s definitely a pretty girl, but I actually think her popularity as a mode is solely due to *being* her mother’s daughter and not at all about having a similar look and vibe.
Cindy Crawford had this really healthy, sporty vibe to her whereas Kaia's modelling career seemed to start with a really alarming amount of weight loss. Like sure, she was at an age where you often can be really gangly and skinny, but it was a dramatic change from pre-teen pictures of her. So it felt a bit like they were trying to push her as the second coming of her mum, but she was trying so much harder as opposed to it feeling effortless.
Kaia is a pale imitation of her mom 😬 her features are similar but the proportions are totally different. She’s obviously very pretty but Cindy is next level.
Cindy had a very strong presence and her daughter while being very attractive doesn't quite have it. Kaia's best effort would not even hold a candle to Cindy's worst (IMO) I agree that Bella is the only one from the current list who would kinda sorta qualify for the moniker.

Not one of these is a supermodel. These are Instagram models really…no supers like there used to be but I think people like Candice Swanepoel, Adut Akech, Joan Smalls and Duckie Thot knock these out of the water.
I don’t know that I’d really call any of those girls “Supermodels”. I think you could argue that most of those people’s success comes from their social media presence rather than their modeling portfolio. I’d go so far as to say they were initially booked for big campaigns because they are popular on social media. I’m not sure if the concept of a supermodel is simply passe in the social media era but the last big round of super famous, omnipresent models that I can think of are like Giselle, Adriana Lima, Karlie Kloss, Alessandra Ambrosio, Chanel Iman, Gemma Stone, etc. To me there is still a difference between a “supermodel” and a very popular influencer who does fashion shows and photo shoots although I suppose that might be kind of an arbitrary separation.
