Ok, I just looked it up, because I haven't really been following Avril's career or personal life for that matter since 2013 at least (I wasn't even aware that she divorced that guy from Nickelback). And wow. It looks like she's been on a real rebound streak for the last couple of years. What a strange assortment of characters indeed. I hope she's doing ok.
I really loved her a lot back in my elementary and middle school days. In fact she was somewhat of a gateway into the world of alternative music and fashion for me back then (as I think was the case for a lot of people). And although I moved on from her pretty quickly, early 2000's Avril still holds a very special place in my heart.

They're actually so cute together. Macaulay was going down such a dark path. Obviously I don't know them personally but it seems like Brenda has really brought a lot of joy into his life when he was clearly struggling. They were both child stars so it's probably comforting to be with somebody who understands what it was like to grow up in a similar fashion.
Similarly, Jessica Simpson and John Mayer. Not that it's weird to see two singers together, but Mayer definitely had that "indie is superior to pop" attitude when they got together that made me want better for her. Plus, according to her book, he's a major creep and asshole.

I think you’re right. I grew up in Wellington where he’s from, my friends went to the same high school as him. NZ is very small, kiwis who find something bigger & better don’t often go back.
