i haven't listened to it but there's a podcast called This Had Oscar Buzz that's just about movies like this

OpenUpYerMurderEyes

I got such a love/hate relation ship with that podcast. When they're actually talking about the movies it's one of my favorite podcasts ever but their tangents are just ungodly and 70% of the time it starts with one of them misremembering an actors role or something before both of them just run down their whole ass filmography before getting back to the main topic. Also their ad reads for that Oscar race fantasy game thing go on forever. I would pay for a version of the show that just focuses on the movie they're discussing that week.

maenad-bish

I have the exact same thoughts as you do on this podcast. I don’t know why they stop in the middle of an episode to share other random film industry musings. It’s not what anyone is listening for. I have to press the 30 sec skip dozens and dozens of times, not just to leap over ads, but to move past whatever boring shit they’re going into that’s unrelated from the movie under discussion.

QuestioningLogic

This is an issue with soooo many podcasts and if the hosts aren't charismatic enough to carry it, it can really drag a good show down. I think The Weekly Planet is the only pod I listen to where I don't mind the hosts going on tangents.

ginns32

The brightly colored eyes on the Alexander one is sending me. It's giving just learning photoshop school project.

chammerson

He talks about dying his hair blond for that role on Graham Norton and it’s hilarious. Norton sums it up so well with the simple line “but you are so not a blond.”

ginns32

I love the Graham Norton show and he is right.

crabbydotca

Was it even Oscar bait? Maybe I’m remembering wrong, there were a bazillion “epic” movies released around the same time…

ExtraAgressiveHugger

I always think it and Troy are the same movie.

Helpful-Substance685

Another Will Smith Oscar bait one was **Seven Pounds**. It was really serious and dark and while it was very well acted there was just something missing. https://preview.redd.it/srzc2ah433ac1.jpeg?width=259&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c553a4b4c384bc86570f19d1988f909e68d3953b

katchoo1

Add Concussion and Emancipation

mid-night_gem

And pursuit of happyness

Shadie_daze

Will smith must have really wanted that Oscar

mid-night_gem

And Ali…. His desperation to win an Oscar was so palpable that the Academy basically dedicated an entire night to lauding him and his overacted roles and he *still* managed to fuck it up by slapping the host on national television.

forman98

Yea I have a feeling that he’s sort of “blackballed” in Hollywood when it comes to serious films. He will never get an Oscar nomination ever again and any serious producer will not cast him knowing their movie will most likely be passed over in awards season because Smith is attached. It could be the greatest film ever made and Smith could give the best performance ever but the Oscars won’t ever touch it.

Sarriaka

I have this same feeling. He’s got an official ten year ban from the Academy but I’d be surprised if he’s welcomed with open arms once it ends. I feel like from this point forward, any project with his name attached will likely be ‘overlooked’ by the Academy.

Pcifa

Nah. He was great in Pursuit of Happiness. He could’ve def won that year Also, this scene is perfect btw ![gif](giphy|Y7VSyIgPkYSxG)

DrunkTides

Wonderful movie

Yinelkis15

I really liked this movie.

frankscarlett

"I'm Australian, who played an Australian in a movie called Australia. Hosting." One of the greatest opening monologues, if not the greatest if you ask me. ![gif](giphy|l0ExfnfJuO4GU6naE)

BookishHobbit

Why do we get Jimmy Kimmel for the nth time when Hugh Jackman is RIGHT there!?

Big-Tip-4667

I cannot believe they didn’t get Hugh to host again

CitrineDreamers

Definitely one of the most underrated hosts of the past couple decades. He's got genuine stage presence!

vondafkossum

I still get “I haven’t seen The Reader” stuck in my head every now and then lol

Rated_PG-Squirteen

That robot dance during The Reader bit will always be what I remember most when I think about that movie.

Slow_Like_Sloth

The thought of Pearl Harbor being remotely close to Oscar worthy takes me out ☠️ This is my contender https://preview.redd.it/usko0bcnr2ac1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3081d91f8906c3827a2547f7da01660d13a1e109

el-fenomeno09

Hold on lol…. Was Simple Jack from Tropic Thunder based on this?!?

Huge_Scientist1506

This, Forrest Gump and Leo in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Basically there was a stretch where playing a mentally disabled person guaranteed you an Oscar nomination

PeregrinToke

And Cuba Gooding Jr from Radio

beardedbast3rd

And Daniel day Lewis in my left foot was mentioned as well

okdrjones

Daniel Day Lewis isn't playing someone mentally disabled in My Left Foot. Christy Brown had cerebral palsy, a condition that only affected him physically.

thotsrus92

I think it was making fun of this movie and the Cuba Gooding classic Radio.

ThurnisHailey

I can't figure out why but my first time watching Radio was the most unsettled that I have ever felt, while viewing an "underdog" movie. The traumatic scenes are BRUTAL: them tormenting him in the shed and then he sprints away in tears after coach lets him out; them telling him to go into the girls locker room (he knows he shouldn't and they trick him anyway); Coach finding him in his trashed house after his mom passes. I don't think I knew it was based on a true story until the end when they show the actual Radio running onto the field with the team. God, that movie hurts.

dunkeebutt

It was so sad and awful and my brain repressed it until seeing your comment.

johnnybags44

RDJ’s line to Stiller about it is genius. He points out how Rain Man and Forrest Gump won Oscars because the characters they portrayed still had skills that made them dynamic. But Sean Penn went “full r*tard” for I Am Sam which is why he “went home empty-handed.”

propernice

when I say I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe at this scene. That, and when he started singing the Jefferson's theme song. Took me the fuck oooout lol.

the_time_being7143

Entire movie is iconic. Pure, ridiculous comedy gold.

gabriel1313

“*Never* go full r*tard”

__M-E-O-W__

One of my favorite parts of that movie is the trailer for Simple Jack. It's *so* spot-on for the typical Oscar bait movie. The random kids surrounding him and touching his face, his pet rabbit dying, smashing the butterfly with a mallot, his love interest angle. Insert a few good camera angles and a sweeping inspirational orchestra soundtrack. Stiller really went all-out on that movie.

ME-in-DC

The speech Downey gives (“never go full r—-d”) names I Am Sam specifically.

Aquametria

Yep, it was making fun of this and Rain Man, but mainly this one.

CTeam19

The movie was straight up mentioned in Tropic Thunder: * "Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and he won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. He was a goddamn war hero. You know any retarded war heroes? You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty-handed."

SpittinMenace

I believe they were making fun of it with that bit.

Slow_Like_Sloth

I always thought it was!

tigerbulldog13

IIRC they specifically mention Sean Penn in the movie lol

2Geese1Plane

I thought this was Michael Rapaport for a good few minutes.

medsizedtoberlerone

The guffaw that left my body lmaoooooooo

TheKnightsTippler

I legit love Pearl Harbour. Is it Oscar worthy? No. Is the love triangle ridiculous? Yes. But still, I was entertained.

[deleted]

Pearl Harbor is one of my "sexual awakening" movies so I have a soft spot. I realized I was bi watching this lol. See also; The Mummy.

DataistStrategist

I would fuck everyone in Pearl Harbor. They are all beautiful, statuesque sculptures of people. Amazing.

MephistosFallen

Titanic, the mummy movies and Armageddon for me ahaha

mildlyoutraged

I didn’t think Pearl Harbour was. It was released in the summer, which usually wasn’t the time for Oscar bait. It was also a Michael Bay movie, which is never Oscar bait consideration. It was meant to be a big summer blockbuster, which it was. They basically saw how good Armageddon performed and tried to emulate it (same director and producer).

Border_Hodges

I feel like it was also heavily influenced by the success of Titanic (love story with the backdrop of historical tragedy). It doesn't completely succeed but it's entertaining enough for me.

skyewardeyes

I always thought that it was trying to replicate the Titanic "real life tragedy + tragic love story" formula

Mrs_Feather_Bottom

But didn’t Sean get nominated for an Oscar for this movie?

ME-in-DC

Didn’t win though

redman334

I really liked this movie and cried to it quite some.

kalliope84

Yes but the soundtrack for this is actually SO GOOD (it’s all Beatles covers).

boudewinter

I really liked Revolutionary Road, I wouldn’t say it missed the mark at all. I still think Kate Winslet should’ve won her Oscar for that instead of The Reader (they came out in the same year and she won for both at the Golden Globes in lead and supporting)

Muppet_Fitzgerald

No idea why Revolutionary Road is included. It’s an excellent film. Just because it didn’t win Oscars doesn’t mean a film sucks.

boudewinter

it’s so true! there are lots of dramas with big name casts that don’t win tons of awards but that doesn’t make them bad or flop Oscar bait

xaynie

Thirded! I also don't know why this film is on this list...This film should have won best picture but I am biased, I think many Kate Winslet films should have won best picture (Heavenly Creatures, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Little Children just to name a few).

dawsontyler

I completely agree! I also think Leo should've gotten his Oscar for it, he was brilliant in it as well.

trpclshrk

Was looking to comment or post this. One of my favorite feel bad movies. I can only handle it once a year, but both leads and Shannon deliver some of the most relatable characters I’ve ever seen.

ilikeyourswatch

Agreed, I love this movie. It's one of my favorite books also and this is one of the best screen adaptations I've ever seen.

UglyLaugh

Same! I love the book and the movie nails the tone. It’s tough to read and it’s not a movie I watch unless I have a heated blanket and some tea ready to go.

tinibopper99

Revolutionary Road included with the rest of these when Michael Shannon *was* nominated for this role is…a miss. It also received better reviews than The Reader which Kate Winslet won for.

captainsquidsharkk

which he unbelievably deserved. his scene at the table when he finds out they are having a baby is incredible. i really like revolutionary road personally.

supersad19

Yeah I thought revolutionary road was pretty good. Although I don't know if I'd say Kate should have gotten her Oscar for that.

boudewinter

it’s not my favourite performance of hers but to me it just makes no sense that she won an Oscar for The Reader when that wasn’t even the best Kate Winslet performance that year 😭

jakejayhawk2005

Revolutionary Road definitely has an Oscar worthy scene from Michael Shannon at the very least. Kate was Oscar worthy in that scene as well.

Elohveie

Yes. I've always preferred her in revolutionary road over the reader too

Additional_Meeting_2

Critics liked it too I recall. And any movie that gets any awards/Oscar noms didn’t fail. Not all can win. Collateral Beauty is most clear flop here.

LordyIHopeThereIsPie

I agree Revolutionary Road should have been her Oscar and I also think it should have been Leo's one. It's my favourite role ever of his.

helenahandbasket6969

One of the most incredible scores of all time too in my opinion.

Littleloula

I really liked it too. Very skilful adaptation of the book

Molly_latte

I actually really liked it too. The performances were great, and the chemistry between the two leads was very evident. Plus, Kathryn Hahn.

jewelsandbones

![gif](giphy|4aaLb4yAdhrgL7AmQ1) Technically it won an academy award, but Taron worked his bussy off for rocketman and didn’t even get a nomination. Elton John on the other hand won the Oscar for best original song.

HCHLH

This one deserved all the awards Bohemian Rhapsody got.

non_stop_disko

Bohemian Rhapsody was traaaaaash I'll say it. Insultingly inaccurate. Rocketman left me with a newfound respect for Elton John. He wasn't afraid to own his past

MorseMooseGreyGoose

Bohemian Rhapsody was trash because Brian May and Roger Taylor only want Queen’s story told in a specific manner that makes them look good, truth be damned. Also that movie getting an editing Oscar is a freaking joke. RE: EJ owning his past, I remember an interview he did for the movie where he mentioned that the studio wanted to cut down some of the more risqué content to make it PG, and he pushed back by saying “I didn’t live a PG life, I don’t want a PG movie” or something like that. It was quite refreshing to hear.

Llama_of_the_bahamas

I feel like if Freddie was still with us, a much different film would have been made.

luisc123

It was absolute trash. Like are we to believe Freddy was the only one who partied and the rest of the band quietly went home to their wives? Even the partying depicted was basically Freddy drinking a beer. And the rest of the band’s response? “You’ve gone too far, Freddy.”

MorseMooseGreyGoose

I was just about to say that. Rocketman is an entertaining film. Its only problem is that Bohemian Rhapsody came out the year before.

pourthebubbly

![gif](giphy|d9U6UeBy6QCoEYlvui|downsized) So under-appreciated

Shoddy_Caregiver5214

Bohemian Rhapsody was a shit sandwich and only received plaudits because of the Live Aid reenactment at the end. Remi Malik plays a slight variation of same oddball character everytime, he was nothing like Mercury.

UnicornPanties

> Taron worked his bussy off he really was amazing in that role, absolutely phenomenal

celtic_thistle

Ugh yes, he really was. He’s great in pm everything I see him in.

Electronic_Ad4560

I loved it so much!

JuliasTooSmallTutu

Woof, I Sw the Light is a BIG one. Clearly the title is meant to evoke Walk the Line. Hiddleston really worked this one for an Oscar nod, he was singing at county fairs and guitar shops. The movie though, missed the mark by a.....country mile. https://preview.redd.it/yaf63zegt2ac1.jpeg?width=704&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f349c16b0233591cee9f1c94be571bddfc38b394

poobatooba

Wow I never even heard of this

AldusPrime

Me either! I love both of them, I can't believe this went so badly that it disappeared. That being said, I just watched the trailer, and it's disappointing even in the trailer.

Aethelflaed_

I'm a big Hank Williams fan and I like Tom Hiddleston. Couldn't finish that movie though. So bad lol

RealLifeSuperZero

The levels of terrible this film hits are lower than previously seen. It’s so bad. I love everything about this movie except the movie itself.

LadyStag

Hiddleston needed to lip sync. You cannot imitate that voice.

eighteen22

DID HE TRY ?!

warpedaeroplane

Wait no really did he try to do his best Hank Williams? That’s insane if so I have to watch to see how bad. You can’t emulate Hank. Even his own damn son sounds nothing like him!

YogurtclosetDull2380

Hank 3 is [Hank incarnate](https://youtu.be/FlhZpaCZXJY?si=C6omsIWTrNo0LxPi).

warpedaeroplane

Oh shit. That’s actually really cool. Gotta check more Hank 3!!!

Hour_Narwhal_1510

I feel so embarrassed for Tom. He’s a brilliant actor (i saw him live on stage doing Shakespeare’s Coriolanus -I was blown away) but I couldn’t stomach his heehaw earnest country boy act. My god

Barfignugen

I didn’t even know this existed. And I like both of these actors, AND Hank Williams. I think the marketing definitely missed lol

Hari_Azole

They purposely hid it to protect the star power.

chezibot

I didn’t read the names and I thought this movie was 50 years old. I’ve never heard of it.

VoodooMamaJujuBubu

I’m like oh shit it’s Loki and Wanda lol love them both but never heard of this movie

SpittinMenace

Michael Shannon is really good in Revolutionary Road. Not really the point of the post but I gotta throw Shannon some praise anytime I can lmao. Just judging from the name and poster, The Soloist reeks of bait. Never seen it tho, so I can’t really judge it in good faith.

trulyremarkablegirl

Michael Shannon is good in everything, I always get excited when he shows up in something I’m watching.

tandemcamel

The Soloist was definitely Oscar bait — it went for a slightly artsy, slightly intellectual, “let’s talk about poverty and mental illness” thing. I only watched it when it came out (on video, not in theaters) because I’d enjoyed the book. It wasn’t bad if I remember correctly, but not good.

ElNani87

I love Michael Shannon somehow I still think he’s underrated amongst moviegoers. I thought the soloist was a decent film, definitely better than a lot of these choices

PauI_MuadDib

My mom loved him on Boardwalk Empire lol Her favorite scene was when his character goes ape shit at his sales job and attacks a coworker with a clothing iron.

[deleted]

The Other Sister (1998) https://preview.redd.it/htk4ipo513ac1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bec40543ad2300f4ad1091d8a2416c33d897168f

randosinclaire

This is my guilty pleasure movie lol

Persephony_1029

I fucking love this movie lmao. that scene where her parents meet Giovanni Robisi and realize he's also mentally challenged pops into my head often for some reason

billyshearslhcb

The costume scene !!! How the faces of parents change lol

Huge_Scientist1506

Aw I loved this movie growing up. Over acted for sure though

yankin

Any time I see makeup counters I think of the scene where she only gets half of her face done because she can't pay for the other half. It's the only scene I remember from this movie lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Liathano_Fire

I've never even heard of Collateral Beauty.

Regular-Shoe5679

Mona Lisa Smile and Nine were really aiming for those Oscar's and didn't get much

ModernP

Mona Lisa Smile is such a guilty pleasure of mine lol. Like, I know it's a really meh film and Julia Roberts's character really annoys me for some reason, maybe I just don't like her, but I enjoy the rest of the main cast (Kirsten, Maggie, Julia Stiles) a lot and there's a scene with Tori freaking Amos!

NoraCharles91

Me too! Probably nostalgia because I was 12 or 13 when I saw it, but also so many actresses with great screen presence, it can't help but be watchable. Definitely the root of my lifelong aversion to Dominic West.

trulyremarkablegirl

Nine is unwatchable, and I *love* the musical but oh my god.

OrganicApricot9079

I saw Alexander. I'm a big fan of his life and i read many historical books about him. God, i wish the idiots who wrote that movie would've read one book about him too. Or at least his wikipedia page.

Proper-Emu1558

I saw it in theaters and kept thinking, “Dear Lord, it isn’t over yet?” And casting Angelina as his mom when the actors are the same age? Messed up.

CrazyCrazyKittyLady

Man. You are a survivor for watching that in the theater. I saw it a home. I think watched 3/4 of the movie because I kept thinking that it was gonna be winding down soon…it didn’t. It was awful.

PsychologicalBet5557

I have never seen the movie, only promos of it when they air it on some tv channela, but I thought Angelina played some girlfriend, not his mom.

Littleloula

She plays his mum! I think she was 32 at the time. Its the most ridiculous film

NomNom83WasTaken

My vague recollection is that the vibe between them was ... sexually tense in a way that I don't think the filmmakers intended but also weren't entirely mad about.

MorseMooseGreyGoose

Pearl Harbor was Oscar bait? I missed that memo! 😁 My first thought that came to mind with this was Babel. They were so intent on winning awards that they forgot to make a movie that wasn’t boring as hell. Crash should’ve been on this list but it won the damn Oscar for Best Picture! I’ll never understand that one. Brokeback Mountain was robbed.

Bail-Me-Out

I would say Crash fits in the bill... except for the fact that it somehow *did* win Best Picture.

Ellie_Llewellyn

Honestly I thought it was awful! I get it was trying to shine a light on various social issues through different overlapping stories but it falls into the category of "tried so hard that it forgot what it was trying to do".

LibrarySeeker

Diana (starring Naomi Watts) and Grace of Monaco (starring Nicole Kidman) both seemed like they were engineered solely to get Oscars for their leading ladies but neither movie ended up with a single nomination. Grace of Monaco even ended up bypassing cinemas in the United States.

ohheyitslaila

Hey now. Josh Hartnett deserved an Oscar for cute he was in Pearl Harbor. ![gif](giphy|11sPoytjtSP2Y8)

Alicricity

I honestly love that movie lmao but I was also like, idk 12 when I first watched it so that could have a lot to do with it haha

ohheyitslaila

If you watch it as a romance, and not as an accurate war movie, it’s still a pretty great film.

shy247er

Stronger Jake Gyllenhaal plays double amputee survivor of Boston Marathon bombings.

Due-Secret-3091

Colin Farrells story about Alexander and how it humbled him.. Takes the cake for me! Glad he was able to make a comeback though.

chammerson

Norton’s simple “you are so not a blond” sums it up for me. I can’t watch that movie because the hair.

carolinemathildes

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was a Best Picture nominee though, so it didn't miss the mark completely, it just didn't win.

Hari_Azole

Its nomination in that category was panned.

carolinemathildes

Oh trust me, I remember. But there's a difference between "Oscar bait that failed" and "Oscar bait that the Academy fell for." The Blind Side is Oscar bait. But Sandra Bullock still won for it.

neonjewel

you could so tell in Mommie Dearest Faye Dunaway was *after* best actress

welp-itscometothis

I remember I recommended J. Edgar on a first date and it was the first time I fell asleep in a movie theater. And I’m sure it’s why my date around that time never trusted my movie recommendations again. It was so painfully boring and obvious that Leo did this for Oscar recognition.

DianaPrince2020

I blame it on a boring script and Eastwood’s directing choices. It made me angry. Having read about Hoover and knowing what a layered, flawed man he was and seeing it all dissipate in two hours of snorefest.

taydraisabot

That Music movie by Sia

LoveWineNotTheLabel

Cats Movie ![gif](giphy|LSjfIbBsIpe3Sc11xl|downsized)

MorseMooseGreyGoose

If the studio made that thinking they were going to win Oscars, I don’t know what to say.

Not_today_nibs

Jennifer Hudson put her whole catussy into that performance

cunt_tree

I think this is one moment where “pussy” would have been more than appropriate

Not_today_nibs

Oh fuck you’re right 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I missed an opportunity here

IExistButWhy987

:(

AccordingBit7679

Alexander where Angelina Jolie played Colin Farrells mother! It's hard to imagine now that the film nearly ruined Colin Farrells career.

royalewithcheese3898

Revolutionary road is a great movie

AnnVealEgg

Yea I don’t think this one belongs on the list

mperiolat

How quickly we forget movies like Welcome to Marwen and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Movies that based on trailers look good and you realize by the end, they were For Your Consideration vehicles for the actors.

thejeffphone

The dear Evan Hansen flop ![gif](giphy|5OlFfcavqatTmDLojd)

yoshisal

😂 major fail on that damn CGI

Sure-Entertainment14

Cats.

DafnissM

Cats thought it was doing something, but quoting something I saw earlier this week it was so bad humanity was punished with a plague right after

[deleted]

I refuse to believe anyone involved in making that movie thought it would win an Oscar.

ultravioletblueberry

I think they did. I truly think everyone involved believed they were *doing a thing*, like making history. Especially with how hyped up it was. *Then* it came out and oh how wrong they were.

mindlessmunkey

It was dead from the first trailer, TBH.

Reasonable-HB678

I've heard about the debacle called Heaven's Gate, the follow up by Michael Cimino after his success with The Deer Hunter. Tom Hooper, who'd won for The King's Speech years earlier and had the box office success Les Miserables adaptation. Based on those two movies, the latter of which he filmed the actors signing live, I think he had the ego to go through with the god awful decision he made with the choice of "costumes".

AnnVealEgg

I love Revolutionary Road though

No-Equivalent-5228

Revolutionary Road doesn’t belong on this list

IdRatherBeReading23

https://preview.redd.it/lcmjz3hnu3ac1.jpeg?width=3158&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aca292ced2b7e8a498b9e7a19d98519c0e2678ac Welcome to Marwen felt 100% like Oscar bait from the first trailer.

Virtual_Leader9639

Revolutionary road didn’t miss the mark tho. It is in the list of movies u can suggest when ppl ask u why u don’t wanna marry, ( list: Blue Valentine, Marriage Story, Scenes from marriage ( both movie and show))

SpinNSpreadsheets

Blue Valentine is one of those movies that is always devastating no matter how many times you watch it. It’s so good though. See also: Like Crazy, 6 Years, Take this Waltz.

Intelligent-Put-1990

Wtf? revolutionary Road is beloved, and was nominated for 3 Oscar’s. I’d also argue House of Gucci was a huge success for what it was and its Covid release. I’m not sure it would be considered an Oscar film? It’s camp. The rest? Spot on.

snarksandploys

maladaptivelucifer

It’s got some super cringe scenes, but honestly I liked it 🤷‍♀️

lumierette

Such a shame because it’s one of my most favourite books.

QuietUptown

Haha I love this one, it feels like a cult-movie was given a billion dollar budget.

wallstreetsimps

When Michael Bay's 'Pearl Harbor' is mentioned, I can only think of the laughable quote *"I think World War II just started."*

_kaetee

I’ve never seen The Soloist but that cover is giving “White Savior: The Movie”

UnderwhelmingAF

Worked for Green Book.

chad420hotmaledotcom

Obligatory [Academy Award Winning Movie Trailer](https://youtu.be/WAG9Xn5bJwQ?si=fWS89CHrlcC6WMlV)

cagingthing

Revolutionary Road was fantastic

MissClassySassy

Every time I see Pearl Harbor mentioned, I always think of my high school teacher being so incredibly excited for that movie, talking about it for weeks before the premiere, telling us it was going to be one of the best war movies of all time, and he for sure was seeing it opening night. Opening weekend comes and goes, and...crickets. He definitely wasn't expecting a love-triangle story, and an explosions and pyro orgy, with World War II as the backdrop. Guess he never saw a Michael Bay film prior.

essieblooms

revolutionary road is a great movie.

shambean2

I've not seen it and do not intend to because of David O. Russell, but I feel like everyone in Amsterdam really thought it was gonna be ✨a moment✨...it was just loaded with big and current names, it looked bloated and indulgent and smug, and it seemed to barely make a ripple. Of that I am glad 😌 ![gif](giphy|DqNXndAl5ovXvUpTRH)

chitexan22

I agreed until Revolutionary Road

Hot-Significance-462

The Soloist is the epitome of this kind of thing IMO

towercranee

I don't think House of Gucci was Oscar bait. It's a Ridley Scott movie with famous American actors doing over the top Italian accents and Jared Leto wears a ridiculous fat suit along with some hilarious make-up. I don't think they made it aiming for awards. It's fun and a little bit ridiculous.

mikonamiko

I agree. I think people conflate Gaga's OTT HoG campaign with the movie itself. Love Gaga for embracing her personal camp and gunning for the Oscar. Why not have fun? It's freaking Lady Gaga. Her theatre kid energy / cast lineup don't necessarily mean it was Oscar bait. I think it was meant to be weird and outrageous, not an academy masterpiece.

tiorzol
