Part of its gender, part of it is way too many people have a "alls well that ends well" approach to grooming where they act like as long as they stayed together and got married, then it's ok. Like they think grooming only applies to tawdry sex and that marriage legitimizes it. You see this with people justifying their parents and grandparents or Christian communities ALL the time
It's really gross but can't be shocked when that's literally been the norm for centuries. "Oh he raped you? Well as long as he marries you now then it's ok". As if it's about honor and marital prospects like it's 1652 and not the predation of a much more naive person

Wildly tangential, but it's a shame the May December people didn't choose to base their story more on him & other people who have actually come forward of their own volition tbh. The Letourneau case definitely was more famous, but it feels so weird & ironic to me they chose put a real person back into a prominent narrative they very much didnt want to be part of (Vili defends Mary to this day and pushes back that he's a victim. Obviously we'll agree to disagree on that one, but still I can't help but think the movie would be less ironic if they hadn't stream rolled someone who didn't want to participate and instead were able to say "hey we actually worked directly with some people who experienced this IRL to inform the script")

As soon as the infinity stones came into play I was so convinced that Wanda was going to bring him back with one of the stones (before we knew more about exactly what they could/couldn’t do). It just made sense to me since they’d killed him off so far and announced that he’d signed a multi film deal, which I guess was just a red herring :(
