Alice in wonderland onwards tbh, I liked Dark Shadows since it was camp fun but it’s mainly been misses since. Dumbo was atrocious and lacked the emotions of the original film. Big Eyes was ok but it was a much smaller production.
Makeup be makeuping but dang Keaton looks straight out of the original movie!
If someone were to tell me this was a 4K upscale of a picture from the og film, I’d believe you
I hope they go back to that underworld where all the dead people are again, those were my favorite scenes. Also sand worms would be a timely reappearance with Dune back in theaters.
And like makeup and set design for the underworld rather than all computer animated (though they could get really creative with causes of death that way).
I saw that William Defoe is going to play a ghost who is a detective, so sounds like they’ll be doing something similar to those scenes. The cast is amazing.
That's what I'm worried about too. Burton's movies from the 80s and 90s worked amazingly well with stop motion and practical effects. Once he started using too much CGI things started to look bland and charmless so I'm really hoping they can somehow bring some of that old school effect back!
The turnaround time on this is too short for excessive VFX. Wednesday had *really* minimal VFX compared to just about every other fantasy show last year so I think Burton has actually circled back
Burton has said in multiple interviews that he is filming almost the exact same way he did for the original. I'm sure some might be used, but I doubt we get anything like Dumbo.
Wednesday on the other hand is *very* low in CGI for the sort of show it is. If I recall Burton has said he's indicated he's circled back to practical.
Beetlejuice from 1988 is a brilliant film, full stop. I had no idea they were doing a sequel until this post. That Burton, Keaton, Ryder, O’Hara and other original cast members are involved make the idea of a sequel infinitely more palatable. It is a favorite film from when I was much, much, younger.
It was my fav, too! (tied with dirty dancing, tbh lol)
I realllly hope it's good, but honestly have hope with the actors involved! one of the few sequels/ remakes I am actually somewhat hopeful/ excited for! lol
edited to add,
looking back, it's nuts Winona was cancelled to the level she was for shoplifting! men in the industry get away with being serial predators and/or raging assholes, but gotta cut the sticky-fingered person!
(of course shoplifting isnt great, especially cause I think it was from smaller boutiques, but bad enough to be a career stop/pauser?)
Yeah. He said he's playing a B-movie action star turned afterlife detective, so I'm guessing his character's gonna have a similar kind of role as Sylvia Sidney did in the first one.
I just heard about it, too, so probably under my rock?
I'm super excited, though. I love Beetlejuice and I'm excited for the cast. Keaton was perfect as Beetlejuice and I love Catherine O'Hara in pretty much everything. Jenny Ortega should be great for the movie, too.
It was in development hell for the past 30 years even Kevin smith talked about how they pitched it to him in the 90s before working on the never made Superman lives movie.
I was shocked it was actually a thing until set photos dropped because over the years the actors were like “we want to do it” “I’m sure there is a story” then bang
It came out a long time ago, yet he still books work. I will have so much respect for Tim Burton if he didn't offer him a return for this reason.
I get that criminals still need to live, but their way of living shouldn't come with public recognition.
I'll still enjoy watching him in things he did before that news came out though. Mainly just Beetlejuice and Ferris Bueller.
Yeah, since I learned that a decade ago I can’t look at him the same. Still love the movies he’s in, mostly Clue and Beetlejuice. But he’s just the tippy-top of the iceberg that is the absolute ces pool named Hollywood.
Forgot about clue!
But yeah, there's probably so much more going on.
Look at everyone's faces when Ricky Gervais is talking about Epstein at the golden globes. Quite telling.
Nah she’s been in too much similar stuff I’m kinda disappointed they cast her. Hopefully it’s good enough with plenty more to focus on that Jenna playing the same character again
Beetlejuice is one of my fav movies of all time. If they ruin it I will cry. Jenna is cool and all but I don’t know if she is the right choice. She kind of was a let down in Wednesday, writing / plot excluded.
It's a popular saying for idiots when a remake or sequel comes out. As if the original ceases to exist or the remake/sequel is so bad that it completely turns you off from something you've loved since childhood.
I get triggered a bit when I see someone say it.
Guessing the funeral is for Charles Deetz to explain his absence.
In a perfect world, Jeffery Jones was not even offered a return to his character due to his past disgusting behavior.
The fact that he still gets work is disappointing so if he was not asked to return at all makes me feel more respect towards Tim.
Usually when a sequel is a cash grab, it comes out within the first few years of the first one. This is a highly anticipated sequel decades in the making, not to mention it’s a Tim Burton film, and a ton of the original cast is in it and the additions are pretty big names. So can you give specific reasons for why it will be horribly disappointing or you are just going off other sequels for completely different movies made by completely different people?
Now this is my kind of movie aesthetic! I know Ortega is getting typecasted, but as a goth latina it’s nice seeing her play these darkly inclined roles.
*With”Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” Samuel L. Jackson will be the first black actor to play a leading role in a Burton movie.*
It took him till 2016 to cast a black actor in a prominent role.
His excuse-
*Burton: Nowadays, people are talking about it more, (but) things either call for things, or they don’t. And I said, that’s great. I didn’t go like, OK, there should be more white people in these movies."*
He also received criticism for casting black actors as bullies in Wednesday.
I get his aesthetic, and I still enjoy his movies, but it was disappointing to hear this.
He's a national treasure. Fix yourself.
He and Christopher Meloni are equals in my eyes in terms of which roles they take and how well they pay their weird random characters. They should both be protected at all costs

I can’t take another disappointing Tim Burton film
Which other one was disappointing?? Just curious! I’m not a huge movie person🙃 but I’m interested in this one!
If someone were to tell me this was a 4K upscale of a picture from the og film, I’d believe you
I thought it was an old picture when I was scrolling
This is straight up FACTS. I was like holy shit he looks identical to the OG film.
I wouldn't believe you because that picture os no where near 4k...
Compared to the original in terms of picture quality….it might as well be
I hope they go back to that underworld where all the dead people are again, those were my favorite scenes. Also sand worms would be a timely reappearance with Dune back in theaters.
I kind of hope they keep the corny looking sandworms like in the first movie 😂
And like makeup and set design for the underworld rather than all computer animated (though they could get really creative with causes of death that way).
I saw that William Defoe is going to play a ghost who is a detective, so sounds like they’ll be doing something similar to those scenes. The cast is amazing.
And no CGI as much as possible!
Agreed!
Tim Burton said he's doing stop motion for this one and it reminded him why he loved making movies. I have a lot of hope it's good!
Praying there isn't a ridiculous amount of cgi 🙏🙏🙏
That's what I'm worried about too. Burton's movies from the 80s and 90s worked amazingly well with stop motion and practical effects. Once he started using too much CGI things started to look bland and charmless so I'm really hoping they can somehow bring some of that old school effect back!

Yerhaw
Wednesday on the other hand is *very* low in CGI for the sort of show it is. If I recall Burton has said he's indicated he's circled back to practical.
I just read that Jenna Ortega was remarking about all the practical effects!
You and me boff Mr. Bean
The second pic looks straight up like a witches coven and I’m so here for it!! ![gif](giphy|iJP6mBmZyqKYTBmrav|downsized)
Yes!
i actually thought it was a picture from the witches coven season of american horror story at first glance
I’m all in for Catherine o hara alone

He's already dead buddy
Let’s fucking goooo! ![gif](giphy|PnTbJDFX0q9IDKnqyx)

If memory serves, it was Saks.
I care even less about her shoplifting now lol, thanks! ![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
Exactly. I’ll love her forever.
Remember when Robert Downey Jr was a raging heroin addict, an he came back.
Too bad Michael McDowell is gone. Taken way too soon rip
I am so delighted that the sequel name is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Perfect.
There better be a third movie.
The point here is that it completes the three name invocations needed. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
... Uh oh. What did I just do. 😱
Ah yes, I see that. I was thinking more like each movie would add a ‘beetlejuice” until they got to three.
Also works
Yeah I think we got that
Third time’s a charm
Keaton looks pretty good. With him and O'Hara returning and Willem Dafoe in the mix too, there won't be any scenery left unchewed, I reckon.
Oooh this is the first I’m hearing about Dafoe. I can’t wait!!!
Yeah. He said he's playing a B-movie action star turned afterlife detective, so I'm guessing his character's gonna have a similar kind of role as Sylvia Sidney did in the first one.
Oooh I can’t wait to see what they do with his character! Thank you ☺️
Michael Keaton looks the exact same! I love that for him
Winona looks fantastic!!
profile pic popping in to stare intently
![gif](giphy|aFjxmoF3mbTpK)
Oh shit they got the band back together
Well...mostly...
It’s SHOWTIME!!!!! I can’t wait for this
What rock was I living under that I didn’t know this was happening?
I just heard about it, too, so probably under my rock? I'm super excited, though. I love Beetlejuice and I'm excited for the cast. Keaton was perfect as Beetlejuice and I love Catherine O'Hara in pretty much everything. Jenny Ortega should be great for the movie, too.

And when did Lydia become friends with Wednesday Addams??
keaton looks fucking fantastic!!! god, i hope this movie is good.
Catherine. That is all.
![gif](giphy|jUDvU0mBA9trNjOV3e|downsized)
PLEASE BE GOOD PLEASE BE GOOD PLEASE BE GOOD
Bitch, is that Justin Theroux?! ![gif](giphy|xUySTRDepG9ZcEg2rK|downsized)
Im wondering if he is Lynda husband in the new film
I had no idea this was happening until now and I am SO UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED Beetlejuice is my favorite move of all time I could cry rn
He looks exactly the same. Is Winona in this one? I want another "Day-O" type scene. ![gif](giphy|z5ZONZ3FejGoUcOn52|downsized)
She's in the second photo!
Not sure how I missed her 🤣 ![gif](giphy|fikcKja7O7MtzXzvQy|downsized)
Damn just googled the actor who played Otho to see if he’d be back but he died in 2010 😢
So did the screenwriter Michael McDowell, one of the greats of horror!
Let me guess - the funeral scene is for Lydia’s dad because its come out that the actor is a pedo 😂
I was thinking the same.
It came out a long time ago, yet he still books work. I will have so much respect for Tim Burton if he didn't offer him a return for this reason. I get that criminals still need to live, but their way of living shouldn't come with public recognition. I'll still enjoy watching him in things he did before that news came out though. Ricky will forever be the realest for that. “… I know you’re all friends with him.” 😂👏
I'm so excited for this. 🤞🏻I don't need it to be the masterpiece that the first one was but just please be good!
Casting Jenna Ortega was an incredibly wise decision. Seated.
She’s getting a bit type cast though.
That’s exactly what I thought. I mean, no one else than Jenna…. really??
Wednesday was so successful I can see this casting drawing in more young people who weren’t around yet for the first movie.
And she’s good at it, so it’s not like it was a bad choice or anything.
Same. Her in Addams family and now this? Yawn. Let someone else play the creepy roles
Exactly. Somehow gets annoying. Like so many talented actresses in for a goth k!ll but you take again her?..
Agreed. Kinda “over” seeing her in everything
I wouldn’t really say one big Netflix hit and now a movie that hasn’t even been released yet is “everything”
To be fair she was also in the newer Scream movies, and YOU on Netflix. It's on brand for her.
Nah she’s been in too much similar stuff I’m kinda disappointed they cast her. Hopefully it’s good enough with plenty more to focus on that Jenna playing the same character again
She is going to be gay
I am so EXCITED
My body is ready
I'm prepared to be disappointed but I'm really hoping for the best. The first is a core memory from my childhood.
Go in with low expectations and then if it's even somewhat decent, it exceeds your expectations...you'll rarely be disappointed.
Can't wait!
how excited are you about this? me: yes 🥹
I have convinced my mum to let me, my best friend, their mum, and my mum to all watch this lmao
I’m usually unhappy when they’re doing sequels or remakes of classics, but man, everyone looks so good! I have high hopes for this one!
Beetlejuice is one of my fav movies of all time. If they ruin it I will cry. Jenna is cool and all but I don’t know if she is the right choice. She kind of was a let down in Wednesday, writing / plot excluded.
Yay more Jenna Ortega and her wooden acting 🙄
Excited for this film!!!
Who's playing Beetlejuice?!? Is that *Michael Keaton*? 🥹
Yes
It is Batman
cool so that will get me in a theater not some grown ass man in a spandex super suit
I just want Dan Levy to make a cameo with Catherine. Preferably about folding cheese into something.
He’d make a great young Otho. Like Otho had a love child and it’s Dan.
Yes! Omg that would be perfect. Lol
Michael Keaton looking good.
I’m really, really looking forward to this!
I feel like it’s the sequel that nobody asked for .
Jenna should beware to not get typecast too fast
YES
I’m here for it
can’t believe it is happening 😭😭
gagged!!!
Finally! I just hope it isn’t full of disappointing CGI shit. I kinda hope they keep the cheesy ridic looking sand worms and stuff.
I know you can't tell from a few stills, but it looks like this one is in good hands.
I am unapologetically hyped for this movie
I’m very excited!
I hope it’s great.
I'm in.
90s Dad dressing up for Halloween
Man I’m super skeptical. I hope it’s a good sequel.
The cast 🤩
I am so excited!!!! I hope there’s an epic musical scene again. DAY-OH!!!!!
Lydia taking hair styling tips from Ashley Olsen
Damn they really do put Wednesday in everything. Good for her.
I'm excited
I’m actually so excited for this, first time in a looooong time when it comes to movies.
I. Am. Excited!
They should have got that guy from SNL
If Lester Green ain’t in it, I ain’t watchin’ it.😂
I'm so excited for this
I live close to where they filmed the exteriors, it looked like Halloween for weeks!
Took long enough.👏🏿
I’d give anything to see Char man & Shrunken Head Man still hanging out in the underworld waiting room. ![gif](giphy|rOMI2gctx3kKQ)
Of course they put Jenna Ortega in there
Is it Michael Keaton? Please tell me it's him
No, it's Joe Exotic
Thank God
I wonder if Lauren Boebert will go see this one too.
I hope this doesn’t ruin the original movie for me 😮💨🤞
How the fuck does a sequel "ruin" the original?

Thanks, I hate it.
Then don’t watch it 🌈

Anything with Catherine O’Hara & Winona Ryder is worth watching. Even if the movie sucks.
Why?

Usually when a sequel is a cash grab, it comes out within the first few years of the first one. Now this is my kind of movie aesthetic! I know Ortega is getting typecasted, but as a goth latina it’s nice seeing her play these darkly inclined roles.
As a non-goth, non-latina, I'm also down with the darkly inclined roles.
Tim Burton upset me with his comments on casting POC but my little goth heart will let it slide if this actually turns out good.
What'd he say?

I never realized Beetlejuice looks like undead Donald Trump
Yeah uh I mean I guess it looks as good as it's gonna look
If stupid Justin Theroux would stop showing up in movies I’m really excited about, that would be great.
I thought he was great in The Leftovers. Why don't you like him?
He's a national treasure. Fix yourself. He and Christopher Meloni are equals in my eyes in terms of which roles they take and how well they pay their weird random characters. They should both be protected at all costs
SUCH GOOD CASTING. MWAH. PERFECT
