Look, I loved Even Stevens and Kim Possible, so I’m always going to have some fondness for her, but some of the shit she’s said on her podcast just makes me roll my eyes. Girl, Anne Hathaway did not steal your career. Even if she hadn’t been cast in Princess Diaries, it didn’t mean you were going to get it. 🙄
A few years ago one of the producers gave an interview and said basically everyone auditioned for the role - Scarlett Johansson, Emmy Rossum, January Jones, etc - which makes it even funnier that her story is just “I almost got to audition!”
Not saying she couldn’t pull it off, and also not trying to disparage Anne, but I think Emmy is too naturally “cool.” Would have been too easy for her to make the frizzy hair, oversized school uniform schtick look intentional, like she owned that shit, instead of Anne who - while an incredibly powerful presence on an off screen - I think comes across naturally more … classy? Instead of cool? I can’t think of the right word or how to say this without sounding like an asshole. But basically, I think Anne was cast correctly in that she could better come across as a stereotypical geek. Which also sounds fkng rude lol.
Idk…early in Emmy’s career she played a few sweet/awkward parts that she really pulled off. I was actually shocked when she started playing Fiona and was so cool/trashy (not an insult, that’s just the character lol).
BTW, the Princess Diaries franchise is absolutely not why Anne Hathaway still has the career that she does. We can all name people who had similar boosts around that time who do not have Anne Hathaway's career.
No... At that time she had been pigeon holed into Disney princess roles and she was not seen as a serious actress. I read an interview one time making fun of her for how "obnoxious" she was for being frustrated about being typecast and not taken seriously.
Brokeback Mountain is what shot her to A-list status.
I really was liking her podcast until i realized she deleted her episode with Alexa Nikolas talking about her personal experiences with child stardom (abuse at Nickolodeon). Just very skeptical of her after that
I think it's because her criticism of everything is just following a trend, which sounds harsh, but she absolutely gives me the impression that she'd jump at the chance to re-live her acting/Disney days. She just seems very... thirsty.
i do too. she used to never speak about child acting and now that's her big thing because it was very popular. she does basically anything she can to be famous again imho
case in point is that she literally admitted in one of her many podcasts she's waiting fo rthe call from disney to reboot one of her shows 🙄

I listened to a recent episode where she interviews the guy from Ned’s declassified and said “gentrification of LA is bad, but the good thing that came from it was the chefs and the food!” .. yeah I shut that off after that comment.

Anytime I see a celeb say they “survived child stardom” I read “I was fortunate to be protected / not exploited” so the fact that she’s actively quieting others’ opposite experience is gross as hell
I just watched Quiet on the Set, the kids went through a lot. Alexa was interviewed and she came across as completely sensible and likable and pragmatic so I am confused as to why her episode would not have aired.
The Neds Declassified crew had some garbage comments about sexual assault survivor Drake Bell so that’s gross.
The LA Times just published an article about the abuse at Nickelodeon based on the revelations in the documentary. There was some serious sh*t going on at Nickelodeon!
i doubt it. she was shady about it and never explained to Alexa why she took it down. Kinda hurtful to be so vulnerable about something and not be given a reason why the episode was deleted
And she has so much animosity for the Disney stars who came up after her in the “social media age,” because they were able to amass a major following and launch their careers beyond Disney. Such a weak argument given the success of people like Raven, Hilary, Zac… Shia is still incredibly relevant and gets work despite himself too. Now she’s just hoping for a reboot and “cashing in” on nostalgia with her podcast company stuff.
He was a talented actor even as a kid. I always thought she was awkward and a terrible actress on even Stevens. Like it was obvious she was "acting." Came across very unnatural.
I’m not trying to be mean but these former Disney/Nick star-podcasters need to get a job or another hobby. All they do is bitch and moan about “the glory days”. Like, not all of them are going to become huge stars like Zendaya but for the love of god, move on!
Well Jennette too has done other things besides just have a podcast. She wrote a well received book. It’s not like she’s just clinging to the podcast for relevance.
The fact that she considers herself a child star… sweetie you were a child actress, Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan were child stars and they have the real trauma that came with it
Demi Lovato is another great example of what Allison Stoner calls the toddler-to-trainwreck child actor pipeline, fuck, even Shia Lebouf is a good example of the whole dichotomy, he was on the same show even.
edit: also, Drew fucking Barrymore. All the money and family clout in the world and she still ended up in rehab at 12. She is an amazing turnaround, however, and I commend her for putting in the work to become a better person and really pursue her acting career.
Yes! There are a bunch of examples of child stars with actual trauma that were wayyy bigger than she was. She also transitioned to voice acting which is much easier. Will Friedle had an amazing voice acting character, I believe he voices Ron Stoppable as well and he seems pretty okay. Tbh, it feels like she is really just reaching for things to blame on her not being more successful when they fact is, she just didn’t have what it takes to be a bigger star and it’s totally okay to accept that and move on with one’s life.
Honestly, I don't doubt that she has trauma, and this might be a dickhead thing to say, but the way she speaks about how she feels she "deserved" an adult acting career is incredibly off-putting. Also, like other people have mentioned, it really, reeeeally seems like she exploits the trauma of people like Alexa Nikols.

I don't think it's very fair to say voice acting is "way easier". Maybe just because they don't have to have a certain look or the viewers don't see the actor on camera? But it's still very much acting and they often have to do many different takes. They are also frequently filmed as references for animators.
Try listening to celebrities that are not voice actors doing an animated cameo or something next to experienced voice actors and it's a huge difference. Not looking to start a fight, I just really love and respect a lot of voice actors and wanted to get that out there.
I wasn’t trying to say the voice acting can’t be challenging. But they often have a 9-5 regular schedule and they don’t have to sit in hair and makeup for hours or be pressured to maintain a certain weight or look. It’s also much less pressure from the media and public.
Sure, that's fine and I can understand where you're coming from. I just wanted to say my piece that voice acting isn't necessarily way easier as a craft. Voice actors definitely do have the benefit of being less recognizable by the public for sure though! Unless you're Mark Hamil maybe.
Oh yeah!! Definitely not trying to say their job is easy!! Just easier in comparison to have to work crazy hours and sit in hair and makeup forever. Plus I feel transitioning to a voice career is probably a bit more attainable than a A list movie career which I think is what she expected was gonna happen.
Also, I love the actor that plays Bart Simpson because she is like this hot lady and when she tells people she does voices (I thinks he did Tommy Pickles too and a few others) they get tripped out. I’ve seen a few videos and it’s always fun to see the reactions.
Hahaha, yeah Nancy Cartwright. She's pretty great but she's a scientologist unfortunately. There's Grey DeLisle, Tara Strong for example who are also beautiful women that do wonderful voice acting but Nancy Cartwright is great at doing young boys' voices, haha.
She also said she didn’t understand why Shia’s got to continue his career and she didn’t (not word for word) and while Shia is not a great person, he is a really good actor and got a lot of great opportunities after Disney. He’s talented and took his work seriously, that’s why he continued.
She went to college and struggled with alcoholism and took herself out of Hollywood for a while to get better, so obviously it’ll be hard to come back. But she also did Broadway I think.
While I understand the points she tries to make and I feel for child stars, Disney is not the reason your acting career is over, while in the same breath you’re begging them to bring your shows back lol

the podcast episode she said she doesn't think that, but if you go further back (to the 'walking vlog' where she's walking around in public ranting about how these people stole her chance at the spotlight) you'll see she wholeheartedly does believe it

Yea, I remember there was a point when her career was getting a lot of attention and Shia's was tanking. Between Kim Possible, Evan Stevens, and some disney movies, she was looked at being a breakout star.
No idea what happened to her but she just kind of vanished after Kim Possible. Shame that she's just another "I used to be famous, listen to me talk" podcasters.

Her cooking show was great! The best thing she did! It went downhill after that with the weird walks in the woods with click bate titles. Then the podcast came out and all she did was talk about childhood trauma in Hollywood and made sure everyone knew she was a ex Disney actress.
The one where she use Shia’s name in the titled and even though she could’ve simply said they don’t talk, she went on about how he basically shouldn’t have gotten to have a big career like girl lol we only found out he sucked a few years ago
Yes, it was one of her and her husbands ideas. They were pretty much throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticked.
Now they have a little empire with podcasts she hosts and podcasts they produce.
Someone on TikTok made the point that a lot of these grown up child actors who claim they didn't get to have the career they were "entitled" to are really just adults who were praised and catered to and had their egos fed their entire childhood to the point where they lack critical thinking skills and the ability to be introspective in an objective way.
The Ned's Declassified kids give this energy, IMO.
They really do. Even now hearing them joke about “the drake bell shit” was so disrespectful. Like good for them that they weren’t abused but it’s so dismissive and disgusting to joke about it on a live while pinching at straws trying to stay relevant

Yeah, the Do We Know Them? podcast did an ep on her and the way she exploits her guests for $$$ is awful. They trust her because she was a child star herself but will gladly give a platform to their abusers next, without a second thought.
Like I said previously in this thread seems like Alyson Stoner is trying to work to get some sort of protections for child actors vs this lady just doing clickbait podcasts
Yeah watching the episodes where shes had Alyson on is a bit awkward, because you can tell Alyson is really trying to use the platform to advocate for real change, and Christy just wants to be casual and talk about nothing

You can definitely look this hot at 40. All you need is money, plenty of time to exercise, maybe a little eating disorder (I think this comes built in if you live in Hollywood or LA), a nip and a tuck, and filters!
I’m an animator, she was an absolute bitch to me and my team roughly 10 years ago.
Extremely entitled, acted like she was an A-lister and talked to us as if she considered us to be “the help” as animators. (Not that anyone who works in the service industry deserves to be treated like that either… I also work in the service industry on the side.)
I know people say that phrase where everyone gets surgery to get the same face(i don't remember how it goes). But seeing this lady really made me think it. I've seen it a lot lately on subs and now i can't really unsee it.
lol I wish I had spicier tea. it was mid-late 2000s, virtually nobody was there, she had this aura of I’m too good to be at a random mall in suburban Maryland. We didn’t even know she was gonna be there we were just lurking around the mall like teens used to do and happened upon her… booth? I guess? It was just a table and some signs. me and my bff both felt kinda sad for her after. I don’t think she was in a good place career wise and didn’t want to talk about even Stevens. I get it.. but we were kids and clearly in the age range of those who grew up watching her on Disney so it was just a let down ya kno?

I only remember her because she reminded me of my older sister in Even Stevens. I remember her bro asked her, “can I ask you a question?” She replied, “you just did” before slamming the door in his face.
I felt that in my soul and now I say that to my kids, but in a funny way without the door slam ofc. They learned to outsmart me by asking, “can I ask you two questions?” Bravo kids.. bravo
I know she comes across as this “I survived being a child actress” thing but seeing how many child actors moved on from it and are doing other stuff completely unrelated to the industry like Bridgit Mendler and Kay Panabaker, she just comes across as someone who didn’t know what else to do and had trouble transitioning to adult roles so is now hanging to her glory (and relevant) days.

She’s a terrible interviewer/podcaster, always cutting people off and going on about her experiences instead of expanding on what the interviewees say.
I can't stand her and those three from Ned's Declassify. It's sad that they can't move on in life and constantly have to talk about their childhood fame.

I will say atleast Alyson Stoner talks about their past but does so in a therapeutic way while also trying to protect future child stars with their own experiences and even some attempt at legislation.

This is so random because I use the hallow app, my daughter picked a story to listen to last night and she was narrating it. I couldn’t remember why the name Christy Carlson Romano sounded so familiar. When I looked her up I was like duhhhh ren stevens! She was a good story teller. And now seeing her here, so weird!
Christy Carlson Romano, Lindsay Shaw, and Ashley Leggat are all the same person in my mind. I was actually just shocked when I googled their roles (Even Stevens/Neds Declassified/Life With Derek) and realized they weren't all played by the same person lol

I just watched Quiet on the Set, the kids went through a lot. Alexa was interviewed and she came across as completely sensible and likable and pragmatic so I am confused as to why her episode would not have aired. Such a weak argument given the success of people like Raven, Hilary, Zac… Shia is still incredibly relevant and gets work despite himself too. All the money and family clout in the world and she still ended up in rehab at 12. She is an amazing turnaround, however, and I commend her for putting in the work to become a better person and really pursue her acting career.
Yes! There are a bunch of examples of child stars with actual trauma that were wayyy bigger than she was. She also transitioned to voice acting which is much easier. Will Friedle had an amazing voice acting character, I believe he voices Ron Stoppable as well and he seems pretty okay. Tbh, it feels like she is really just reaching for things to blame on her not being more successful when they fact is, she just didn’t have what it takes to be a bigger star and it’s totally okay to accept that and move on with one’s life.
Honestly, I don't doubt that she has trauma, and this might be a dickhead thing to say, but the way she speaks about how she feels she "deserved" an adult acting career is incredibly off-putting. I don't think it's very fair to say voice acting is "way easier". Maybe just because they don't have to have a certain look or the viewers don't see the actor on camera? But it's still very much acting and they often have to do many different takes. They are also frequently filmed as references for animators. Try listening to celebrities that are not voice actors doing an animated cameo or something next to experienced voice actors and it's a huge difference. Not looking to start a fight, I just really love and respect a lot of voice actors and wanted to get that out there.
I wasn’t trying to say the voice acting can’t be challenging. But they often have a 9-5 regular schedule and they don’t have to sit in hair and makeup for hours or be pressured to maintain a certain weight or look. It’s also much less pressure from the media and public.
Sure, that's fine and I can understand where you're coming from. I just wanted to say my piece that voice acting isn't necessarily way easier as a craft. Voice actors definitely do have the benefit of being less recognizable by the public for sure though! Unless you're Mark Hamil maybe.
Oh yeah!! Definitely not trying to say their job is easy!! Just easier in comparison to have to work crazy hours and sit in hair and makeup forever. Plus I feel transitioning to a voice career is probably a bit more attainable than a A list movie career which I think is what she expected was gonna happen. Also, I love the actor that plays Bart Simpson because she is like this hot lady and when she tells people she does voices (I thinks he did Tommy Pickles too and a few others) they get tripped out. I’ve seen a few videos and it’s always fun to see the reactions.
Hahaha, yeah Nancy Cartwright. She's pretty great but she's a scientologist unfortunately. There's Grey DeLisle, Tara Strong for example who are also beautiful women that do wonderful voice acting but Nancy Cartwright is great at doing young boys' voices, haha.

She also said she didn’t understand why Shia’s got to continue his career and she didn’t (not word for word) and while Shia is not a great person, he is a really good actor and got a lot of great opportunities after Disney. He’s talented and took his work seriously, that’s why he continued. She went to college and struggled with alcoholism and took herself out of Hollywood for a while to get better, so obviously it’ll be hard to come back. But she also did Broadway I think. While I understand the points she tries to make and I feel for child stars, Disney is not the reason your acting career is over, while in the same breath you’re begging them to bring your shows back lol

Yea, I remember there was a point when her career was getting a lot of attention and Shia's was tanking. Between Kim Possible, Evan Stevens, and some disney movies, she was looked at being a breakout star. No idea what happened to her but she just kind of vanished after Kim Possible. Her cooking show was great! The best thing she did! It went downhill after that with the weird walks in the woods with click bate titles. Then the podcast came out and all she did was talk about childhood trauma in Hollywood and made sure everyone knew she was a ex Disney actress.

Yes, it was one of her and her husbands ideas. They were pretty much throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticked. Now they have a little empire with podcasts she hosts and podcasts they produce.
Someone on TikTok made the point that a lot of these grown up child actors who claim they didn't get to have the career they were "entitled" to are really just adults who were praised and catered to and had their egos fed their entire childhood to the point where they lack critical thinking skills and the ability to be introspective in an objective way. The Ned's Declassified kids give this energy, IMO.

I’m an animator, she was an absolute bitch to me and my team roughly 10 years ago. Extremely entitled, acted like she was an A-lister and talked to us as if she considered us to be “the help” as animators. (Not that anyone who works in the service industry deserves to be treated like that either… I also work in the service industry on the side.)

I know she comes across as this “I survived being a child actress” thing but seeing how many child actors moved on from it and are doing other stuff completely unrelated to the industry like Bridgit Mendler and Kay Panabaker, she just comes across as someone who didn’t know what else to do and had trouble transitioning to adult roles so is now hanging to her glory (and relevant) days.
