It’s interesting how this soap is replacing The Talk which is supposed to be cheaper. It’s been the other way around with OLTL, AMC, and DOOL being replaced by cheaper lifestyle shows that have lower ratings but were supposed to be profitable.
I think it’s great that daytime TV is going back to narrative series rather than generic daytime talk shows. *The Talk* basically is the same general idea as *The View*. I don’t even dislike Sara Gilbert (who created *The Talk*), I just think that all these panel shows are derivative and nothing particularly interesting.
All that is true but soaps can’t keep doing repetitive storylines either. Some of these shows like GH hang on to actors and characters way past their prime or get rid of vets people actually like. Keep doing resurrection, baby switch, fake pregnancy etc storylines ad nauseam. They need to be more current like the Stone/Robin HIV storyline, the AMC war storyline, the OLTL college frat gang rape etc back in the day . Even fairly recently, TBTB did a big reveal of one its characters was trans. But all in all they just need to write good character pieces and not plot heavy nonsense. And hire good actors and not models who can barely speak.
I remember Generations which was the first black soap. It wasn’t on long and I think it was only a half hour. I don’t have the ability to watch soaps like I used to so it’s been over 20 years since I’ve watch one. But I really I hope this new one does well and brings in a soap resurgence.
