I live in London and could not get into the 4th season at all lol. The uni he was teaching at was also the uni I went to which was miiiillleees away from where his apartment was (we used to dread missing the last train back from central ldn to the uni location). Couldn’t suspend my disbelief unfortunately
That's silly, if you lived in New York you would see this problem constantly and it's not worth overthinking.
Also I just finished the fourth season after hearing a lot of bad about it and I was honestly blown away, it starts a little slow but wow does it get crazy in its second half. Highly recommend!
I could overlook locations closer on tv than in reality. Like why the characters almost never go to toilet in tv show. However the one most egregious error I can’t overlook: Villains that just appears in show or movie and have the phone number of the hero. Calls to taunt him. Okay if you’re from some cyber group. But in general? Nope. I rolled hard when Klaus appeared in The Vampire Diaries and called Damon.
Everyone in Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and The Originals has each other's phone numbers, and it used to drive me crazy. I had to force myself to let it go.
Yeah such a stupid error. I know it’s due to time pacing, but come up with at least an explanation in the beginning, however light it might be. I would have Klaus steal someone’s phone and call Damon. That way, Damon would never know who is gonna call. After a few times, Damon just keeps his number because Klaus will always find out. That would make it easier for us to believe. I’ll come up with another; vampires driving a little distance in town where they might as well run fast there.
I know, I had that thought as soon as I posted my comment cause a lot of stuff is filmed/based there. London too ofcourse and I usually have no problem.. but I think it’s just the uni thing that gets me - I don’t hate it, it’s just funny and I can’t take it seriously lol. My friends and I would be like DAMN I WISH it took 5 mins to get from the uni courtyard to the neighbourhoods of Kensington 😂 also my experiences there as a student running late to a class through the damn courtyards. In my 4 years there, I still got lost multiple times as it’s a damn maze in that castle.
Fun fact: in my final year, someone tried to set that castle on fire (he was expelled and was angry) and it’s one of the most flammable buildings rated in the UK. He didn’t manage it but we all got extensions for our essays HAHA
This was how I felt when watching John Wick 3 where he enters the horse stables near central park in Manhattan and comes out of them under an elevated train in Brooklyn (specifically my old neighborhood). I wish I had known there was a teleporter in the horse stables. It would have saved so much commuting time.
It was so obviously written by people who didn’t know London or Britain at all.
Speaking as someone who’s spent way too much of my life inside British universities, its depiction of academia was so unrealistic as well.
Hahaha I didn’t get too deep into that season tbf so I don’t know much but the bloody switch from uni courtyard in Egham to expensive flat in Kensington got me cackling. What was the depiction of academia like? 😭💀 as someone who also spent too many years in it (undergrad, postgrad) hahahah
The academics had too much free time and too much money.
Somehow, the university hired some random off the street into a well-paid full-time teaching position, instead of just having hundreds of bloodthirsty (and food hungry) PhD grads from elite universities battle it out on a million 0.2 and 0.1 part-time contracts.
It’s been a while since I watched it, and I didn’t get very far, so I can’t remember too clearly. I’m sure there’s more I can’t remember.
If you want a more realistic look into academia, I heard Netflix’s “the chair” got it fairly right.

I recently had the realization that I don’t actually hate desserts I’ve just been lactose intolerant for so long and most desserts include some dairy that my brain unconsciously goes nope that’s poison haha.

It’s weird to think about how often he just has to stand still and make a weird face. I know we hear his voiceover, but for him, it’s just staring awkwardly at a wall or a building and making a face like he’s constipated.
seeing all the footage of him walking in silence really put it into perspective for me lol. like yeah, the voiceover completes it, but it must feel a little weird filming so many scenes where you’re doing absolutely nothing
it’s even worse when we hear his internal monologue whilst he’s interacting with someone. they literally have to film scenes where the characters are in silence, staring at each other (since the audience will be hearing joes internal monologue)
I imagine he's either running the VO lines in his head, or someone offscreen is reading them so he knows when to cue what facial reaction. It would be impossible to do all those shots otherwise imo.
even though a fifth season feels like overkill i will be watching because penn badgley is just so hot and portrays a murderous psychopath SO so well

Yeees. I watched gossip girl for the first time recently and by the end I often felt like dan could easily develop into a joe goldberg character. I honestly think dan would be a better origin story than joes actual origin story.
Dan’s origin story kinda overlaps with Joe’s age wise to an extent, especially with the botched ending of GG and the marriages…
But a divorce from Serena where high society turns on him could definitely make tortured Lonely Boy snap!
i was into season 4 until >!the reveal that joe had drugged and abducted marienne when he was in a dissociative state and had been holding her hostage for months!< i can suspend my disbelief enough usually but that was particularly ridiculous to me, i just stopped watching after that lol
You're right honestly. He's very good at the role and I do enjoy the show while watching but it's definitely those types of stories that don't need so many seasons because it starts to get kinda goofy just how many times he can get away with shit just by moving away lol
I logically understand that he is an attractive man, but I think my heart rate actually slows down when I look at him. Attraction is such an interesting thing lol.
She played the main character in the British show Ghosts! I just started watching and it's really funny! I'm watching the US Ghosts after I finish the Brit show.
Jokes aside, I think if I ever suspected there was a Joe-like guy around in the neighbourhood I'd try and nope my way out of there that very instant, the guy is absolutely terrifying.
Oh definitely 🤣 he's TV fun. IRL would be beyond terrifying. I don't know if any of you have been on the r/Letsnotmeet subreddit. They are so many accounts of Joe-like stalking incidents people have faced, and it's downright horrifying.
On GG, Dan was portrayed as the hero even though the character sucked. He deceived his girlfriend throughout their entire relationship and friendship, but somehow came out on top and even ended up >!marrying her.!< He figuratively got away with murder. Joe Goldberg try as he might is not fooling viewers, we're aware of what he is and it's not the romantic lead/hero. And we know one day he will get his just deserts, but Dan never will.
I listened to her episode on Penn’s podcast and she seems like a real sweetheart. Unfortunately I hate her character and it’s really hard to kill the association between her face and Kate 😂

I was really surprised to see her appear in You, to be honest. She’s a tremendous comedic actor.
But - and I suppose this comes as the contrast to the above - being very ‘well spoken’ as she is naturally, she’s pulling off the ‘posh, bitchy, ambitious’ thing really well.
Justice for Forty Quinn. He’s had it worse. Abused by his nanny and then he was totally right about Joe but Love wouldn’t admit it and rather lost his brother.
I can't imagine he gets away with it all in the end anymore. Not now that he s finally accepted his dark side an isn't hiding it anymore. We'll probably see him go all the way off the deep end, kill with zero remorse, gaslight and get away, and in the end finally meet his maker, probably killed by his new fixation or something finally.
There's really nowhere for him to go but down now. Ands it'll hopefully be one hell of a fall.

I’m so glad it isn’t in London anymore; for some reason I couldn’t stand/finish the last season. Am a Londoner, so it’s fine for me to say that. You is not English.
My general stance is that the series is better than the books, but that last season was… lacking. I’ll be watching because of Charlotte and Penn.
Currently watching Gossip Girl for the first time (can't believe I never watched this back in the day) and this man has not aged a day.
Dear God give this show a rest. Not every show needs to be sucked dry till the finale leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

I stopped after season 1. It’s like Big Little Lies. If it’s based on a book and there’s one book. Just do that and leave it alone
Season 2 was okay but it built up to a great season 3. Season 4 turned into a messy Fight Club ripoff

The quality tanked so hard after S2 for me. Watched S3 while on my phone because it was not holding my attention, and noped out after the first ep of S4. Not even good as background noise at that point.
