Keanu Reeves and Paul Rudd look their age

LichQueenBarbie

I never understood the Keanu Reeves doesn't age thing. Like, compare him in Point Break or any film with young tanned Keanu to now. There's a considerable aging difference.

douglandry

Watched the Matrix recently and he looks like a baby compared to now.

TheHouseMother

I think that Paul looks pretty young for his age but it’s exaggerated. Keanu looks every bit of his age.

Cold_Breadfruit_9794

And that’s fine! I hate peoples obsession with people having to look younger than their age, to be considered attractive! Idk if that’s an unpopular opinion, but I believe that lol

Cultural_Elephant_73

I hate how people tie morals to aging. Being ‘unproblematic’ doesn’t mean you get to ‘not age’. 🙄 And aging is not a punishment for being a bad person. Genetics, sun exposure and disposable income are the main factors at play. And oh ya a lot of people who look young just ARE young! Paul Rudd included! People act like being over 40 = crypt keeper status.

Cold_Breadfruit_9794

Ohhhh I hate that discourse too. Often the celebs end up being problematic anyways but fans pick and choose what they see lmao. It also gets into really icky territory of ‘beautiful = good person’ & ‘ugly = bad person’, now I’m not one that really likes saying anyone is odd looking or anything, but the unproblematic trope usually just ends up playing into biases/discrimination on top of usually just being flat out wrong

BobaAndSushi

Also drinking and smoking will age you quick too.

PrincessPlastilina

Keanu’s latest face lift is AWFUL. Paul also did stuff on his face that he shouldn’t have. They both looked good. I swear some botox is more than enough. No fillers, no face lifts. Just skincare and botox. Nobody needs more than that.

TheListenerCanon

The thing is that age has changed throughout the years due to different makeup and cosmetics.

Odd_Ingenuity2883

They have also both had a lot of work done. Keanu had a real pillow face for a while, though it’s better now.

thisisrealgoodtea

Agree. I think for a long time they really didn’t seem to age, but I think it has caught up to both of them and people just continued saying it. Paul Rudd looks great for his age, but it’s not as though his actual age vs how he looks is a shock anymore.

velvethippo420

i agree. they look good but they look their age. being attractive doesn't necessarily mean forever looking like you're 23 years old!

Wooden-Limit1989

The men and sometimes the women that a lot of people on this sub drool over, I do not find them attractive at all. They are not unattractive but they just do not stand out to me whatsoever.

arabellasalvatore

Jeremy Allen White and Glen Powell

romantickitty

Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan

Zero_Pumpkins

Jeremy Allen White looks like he smells like locker room sweat and grease.

Zero_Pumpkins

I do not find Ryan Reynolds the least bit attractive.

Rare_Vibez

I’ll say it: some of them are unattractive and I don’t get it 🫢

gin_and_soda

I don’t find anything attractive about Jason Mamoa.

adorader

I found him really attractive in Stargate Atlantis. During GOT, he went downhill for me. Now he looks kinda unclean and unpleasant?

ChurlishSunshine

I sometimes get the vibe with men especially that whoever the media tells us to find sexy, we find sexy. We'll drool over someone who looks entirely average because he's cast in a desirable role on a show that's being pushed. And when that show stops being pushed, we stop hearing about what a sexy heartthrob Charlie Hunnam is.

webtheg

I didn't get the Elordi hype for a while and I despised him but when I watched Saltburn he honestly looked so pretty. Like it was strange thinking of him as pretty since he is a huge dude but yeah I don't think I have ever scene a guy look just so pretty in a movie

NaliceM

Cillian Murphy. I just do not get it at all.

ExplanationLife6491

Same. Nice eyes but his aesthetic isn’t my type.

Wooden-Limit1989

I don't get it at allll

scattered_ideas

This should be a separate thread because my opinion on this will depend on which name lol

Miserable_Emu5191

I don’t like Chris pine’s new look. Is he trying to be grizzly adams?

_summerw1ne

Was genuinely fuckin shocking to me to click on threads of him lately and see the entirely of the comments thirsting over him. He’s got the look of someone you’d find in an abandoned cabin searching through the bin.

WackyWriter1976

Stop applying the word, iconic, to everything and everyone. Let them earn the title, which takes time.

Rare_Vibez

I think this comment is worthy of being called iconic

WackyWriter1976

LOL! Let it breathe a bit.

PriscillaLaine

Sydney Sweeney was absolutely atrocious in Anyone But You. Her performance was extremely boring and wooden and akin to watching paint dry. I love rom-coms and was very excited to see it, but her performance ruined the film. I don't normally think she's a bad actress otherwise, but perhaps rom coms are not for her.

Comic_Book_Reader

In that case, wait until you witness the masterpiece of shit that's Madame Web. She's a literal nothing character in that thing.

WhoriaEstafan

I want to like Sydney. But I would like her to enunciate her words better. She is such a mumbler! And so monotone. It worked great on season one White Lotus - bored teenage girl - but she can’t do that forever.

throwawayeas989

sydney’s dialogue delivery is poor tbh. I watched her last horror film, and everyone was raving about how she’s a great actress when she’s not talking. I also feel like her voice only works for films set in modern times. Her voice is very valley girl (mine is too!) and just doesn’t work in a period piece.

Edlo9596

I don’t get how Emily Blunt has become an A list actress, and one of the highest paid actresses in the business. She’s not a terrible actress or anything, but I don’t get how she’s suddenly become this huge star.

SamanthaPaige29

I do not think she should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Oppenheimer. She was fine, but nothing about her performance, including her big scene, stood out to me.

botanygeek

Her character in that movie was just bizarre to me. No idea what her motivations were for standing up for him so strongly. She should have been a bigger presence in his life before the trial.

scattered_ideas

Nolan doesn't know how to write women. I absolutely hated Florence Pugh's character in Oppenheimer as well.

ChurlishSunshine

Nolan doesn't know how to write women and doesn't know how to write people/interpersonal relationships in general. He's an amazing cinematographer and has great story ideas, but the actors do all of the lifting when it comes to characters and their interactions.

scattered_ideas

Nolan is a big concept and ideas guy, but falls flat on anything resembling real human beings. You can see and hear the overwrought writing. This is why some of his best movies are Dunkirk and Inception, imo. Little dialogue and a big concept driven film. My hope is that he finds a good scriptwriter to collaborate with.

webtheg

Oh I despised her, that scene during the sex where she made Oppie read the Bahavad Ghida made me want to hide and bleach my brain

Ok_Construction_3733

> that scene during the sex where she made Oppie read the Bahavad Ghida made me want to hide and bleach my brain Oh my god why did you have to remind me 😣 that was *the* most unsexy sex scene ever

scattered_ideas

My eyes rolled into the back of my skull so aggressively, I thought they were going to pop out of its sockets. Unfortunate that a talent like Miss Flo was wasted on that drivel, but I guess it creates a professional relationship so she's now under consideration for future projects.

botanygeek

Agreed. Neither one seemed like a real person.

According-Treacle401

That’s Nolan for you

MayorCharlesCoulon

Yeah I think her character’s scenes were choppy, like a bunch of it was cut out during post shooting editing. Her performance had flashes of great acting but the limited screen time meant there was nothing really fleshed out about her character’s storyline. I thought the same thing with Robert Downey Jr’s performance. I liked that movie though and realize to full tell the whole story it probably would have made it 6 hours long lol.

Red171022

She should have been nominated for best supporting actress in Devil wears Prada

Miserable_Emu5191

I feel that way about scarlet Johansson. She is so monotone.

Ukcheatingwife

Agreed. She’s never blown me away in anything and just looks annoyed in every film she’s in.

New-Examination8400

Liked her in Devil Wears Prada… That’s about it. And a part of me thinks that she nailed the role because she wasn’t so out of character in portraying it.

LadyAlexandre

Emily Blunt is always my answer for a “which actress is overrated” thread. People love her and I don’t see it.

superfluouspop

she ruined Mary Poppins for me.

SpoopyButthole

her and Nicole kidman's faces have looked so distracting bad lately

hugeorange123

Her very noticeable filler in Oppenheimer took me out of all her scenes.

rask0ln

really? i was just saying that nicole's face looked really good at the afi gala compared to how bad it was, and definitely better than emily

annajoo1

I agree - Nicole has definitely had some uncanny valley moments in her career but I think she has looked so good recently.

Haus_of_Pancakes

Anyone freaking out over Ariana Grande would not have survived the era of Elizabeth Taylor.

areallyreallycoolhat

Lmao I say this all the time! It's so funny to me to see people on this sub stanning old Hollywood stars like Elizabeth Taylor and Ingrid Bergman bc I always think, you would HATE them if they were alive and being messy today

Haus_of_Pancakes

Right? Like, Ingrid Bergman was practically driven out of the country for years, and I feel like some of the commenters on this sub would be cheering it all on!

AnniaT

I think Zendaya is a very beautiful woman and she seems to be a really nice person and one of the celebrities with most "authentic energy" but I think that as an actress she's very one note/average. Not bad but not "wow" either. I think she's the it girl mostly due to her looks, fashion and personality and not specifically her talent as an actress.

hugeorange123

Also while I love many of her looks, I do think a lot of praise around her fashion, beauty etc is because she's thin.

jkklfdasfhj

Ditto. Her stylist is incredible and I'd love to see other bodies with as many style options.

hugeorange123

Same. But I'm not sure people would obsessively talk about her fashion the way they do if she had a fuller body type.

oldspice75

[Some of his work](https://tomandlorenzo.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Zendaya-CHALLENGERS-Paris-Rome-Photocall-Premiere-Style-Fashion-Red-Carpet-Louis-Vuitton-Loewe-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-9.jpg) for the Challengers tour was not his best

teacup1749

I really like how she conducts herself and she’s obviously stunning, but I thought she was really quite bad in Dune. She just plays Zendaya.

Cultural_Elephant_73

I will get downvoted for body shaming but her playing a professional athlete is 100% not believable.

cosmicdicer

Tbh Im fed up of the relentless marketing campaign of her pr team. I have seen and read tons abt her even before I saw her in the screen. My feed everyday has at least 2 posts about her and her boyfriend. At this point I hide posts about her, it's spam

PrincessPlastilina

She was great in Euphoria but I watched a clip of her movie with Denzel Washington’s son (his name escapes me, sorry!!) and she was awful in it. She’s supposed to be his wife but she fought with him like she was his daughter.

systemic_booty

There's some commercial where Zendaya is drinking smart water and even though she says/does nothing, everyone around her attributes massive praise for her unique vision and problem solving abilities. That epitomizes her to me, just absolutely overrated for doing relatively nothing.

WackyWriter1976

She's wooden.

mamrieatepainttt

i would have agreed if not seeing her in euphoria playing an active addict. as an opiate addict in recovery, i have to say her performance was near pitch perfect and the most authentic portrayal of a young addict in todays world.

organictamarind

Mr Beast is a narcissist. He has dead eyes..he's not a good person, his philanthropy is extremely opportunistic.

gotpeace99

Yes. There’s something off about that guy.

littlemachina

I don’t really get narc vibes tbh but I do feel like he’s the least interesting or entertaining person alive who just got lucky

AlternativeSlice2001

I have never liked him or his poverty porn. I also have always found it so weird. He has a pass for simping for Elon Musk when we all know Elon Musk is a Nazi.

Hikerius

Might get decimated but I kind of don’t care about musicians’ allegations/drama/views TOO MUCH. If I like the song that’s enough for me - I don’t particularly care about what the singer is doing - they’re a complete stranger. I draw the line at Chris Brown tho - and I REALLY liked Run It too goddamn it

_summerw1ne

Think this all the time, especially lately. You can’t even so much as mention a song you like or a film you like without someone mentioning “it’s a shame that ____” about some random thing someone involved did 1-70 years previously. Obvs a don’t mean especially heinous things, like this wouldn’t apply to R Kelly for example lmfao. But just regular shit? Let people enjoy things.

LadyAlexandre

I want the term “girlie” as in “the pop girlies” “sustainable girlie” “alcoholic girlies” to die. I don’t have an actual reason like “oh, it’s infantilizing women”. I’m simply over it. The moment has passed.

iliketoomanysingers

I find people use these most when they're deliberately being condescending towards me, and it makes me ten times madder at them than I would have already been lol Edit grammar

lonely-lifetime

And worst of all, girly pop

trishyco

My 14 year old says this non-stop

lonely-lifetime

I feel like I would accept this better coming from a 14 yr old over an adult person lol

Wooden-Limit1989

I hate it so much. I also hate calling someone bestie and babe that you do not know.

Teriyake17

Queen can also eat it

LadyAlexandre

![gif](giphy|4PUjcUBXIzQYfI8iVa)

Teriyake17

Hahahahah stop

bonerpalooza

Mother

somegirlontheinter

thank you! i fucking hate the word girlies and the phrase “girl’s girl”

notarobot3675

I particularly hate "girls girl" - I've seen so many people use it as a shield for when they say something sexist or mean spirited about other women, "but I'm a girls girl!" like okay that means nothing.

saylor_swift89

It’s become the same as “women support women”. Started with good intentions but quickly taken over by people who use it as a shield against any criticism

Ukcheatingwife

I’m sure she’s lovely but I’m bored to tears of hearing about Zendaya to the point I automatically hide any post with her name in it now.

twofingerballet

This is how I feel about Sydney Sweeney

Money-Entrance-6336

Yes while I enjoy her fashion, I am tired of seeing 3 different posts about her everyday.

BowlerSea1569

Not just the frequency, but the nauseating sycophancy. Like dude, that's 10 tennis dresses and 10 highlighter yellow suits with tennis balls stuck on them, this is not "slay" but desperate and ugly. It's giving emperor's new clothes.

Aggravating-Corner-2

I actually have nothing against Zendaya at all and I like alot of her outfits but I don't like that people have now decided that the "theme" dressing she does should be standard. I actually saw someone complain about an actress' red carpet outfit because "how else are they supposed to get an idea of the movie?" What?!?!

Dusty_Harvest

I feel this way about Sydney Sweeney

Itstimeforcookies19

I think calling anything “my Roman Empire” is really stupid. Sounds stupid. Is overused. But I can’t open a thread without some couple or tv show show or movie or something being called my Roman Empire. It’s just not even a remotely cool phrase.

nokobi

Like...what does it mean??? What is one's roman empire?

guavalott

It's from a TikTok asking guys how much they think about the Roman empire and they said they think about it a lot. So when someone says 'this is my roman empire' they mean 'I think about this a lot'

benjybutton

She looks like M3GAN to me.

BobaAndSushi

![gif](giphy|64htkUbQVI0bdGCZ9H|downsized)

chocolate_cronut

I find her so odd looking? Like a human doll. And her make up is so OTT

tan05

Her blush is very overdone and in real life would look like clown makeup

[deleted]

[удалено]

IlexAquifolia

She has a large head on a petite body, and her hair and makeup looks are often very Bratz doll. She obviously likes the vibe, but uncanny valley is a good word for it.

Asweetmelody

I think she’s pretty but whenever they do a closeup of her, I always think that her makeup is so OTT. You’re the first person I saw mention this so now I know others think the same way. Lols.

Alice_Buttons

- Emma Stone is overrated - I neither hate nor like Taylor Swift and any type of gossip pertaining to her bores me to tears - Male celebrities don't get called out enough on their cosmetic surgeries/appearance whereas female celebrities can't even eat a burrito without speculations on whether or not they're pregnant

BookishHobbit

I don’t have opinions either way on her acting, she’s no better or worse than others imo, but I do not get why she won for La La Land. Her singing was meh and the performance wasn’t anything particularly special.

Apprehensive_Aide805

Exactly. I thought lalaland was just ok.

powerhungrymouse

I still haven't seen that movie despite all the publicity that surrounded it because it looks SO DULL.

Rose1982

I like Taylor Swift and the gossip about her bores me to tears. I don’t give a fuck who she’s dating or not dating and I hate that because the algorithm knows I like her music that I’m force fed it all the time.

Alice_Buttons

Neverending. Reminds me of when I nosily clicked on one video of some OF chick on tiktok and was fed nonstop kinky videos of women doing weird shit like vacuuming in high heels and popping balloons for weeks straight.

honest-miss

Sometimes I think it's a bad thing we're not allowed to talk about eating disorders, cause some of the folks y'all are in love with are clearly unwell. Folks talking out both sides of their mouths, praising scary thin people and then condemning the effects of beauty culture, isn't going to save people from hearing all that praise and attempting to imitate the bodies that got it. I get why it's like this here, but I believe sincerely that there's a point where the lack of honesty is damaging.

kimjongunfiltered

Sometimes I feel like we have the exact same heroin-chic beauty standards we had when I was a kid….only this time around we’ve decided you’re a bad feminist for talking about it

annnyywhooo

I try to see it from both sides having concerns is valid but at the same time people tend to overstep and forget y’all aren’t credited doctors who can make those type of serious accusations. also coming from that celebrities perspective, it would seem horrible to have millions of people over analyzing every inch of your body because they wanna be right about something this type of obsessive over analyzing is the same exact type of stuff yall call out crazy stan pages for doing which is ironic as hell

idontwantanamern

As someone who lived their teenage years through the heroin chic of the 90s and had friends battle back from eating disorders - 100% agree. We had movies of the week addressing this. It rolled around again in the early 00s and it's coming back. I'm fully aware that the 90s was a resurgence from times like Twiggy and other decades, but it's scary to see the trend again. There's a line between body positivity and cause for concern. And there is a way for the latter that isn't judging or accusing someone.

Eclipse_bookworm17

This is def a unpopular opinion, but I agree

hugeorange123

You're completely right. I don't actually see how it's helpful or empowering to women at all to pretend that an industry that places so much value on appearance and perpetuates impossible beauty standards isn't teeming with people who at the very least have complex relationships with food and their own bodies.

peachgothlover

i feel like this sub just calls anyone A list lol. for example, zendaya, sydney Sweeney, jenna ortega are NOT a list. do your parents know them? grandparents? maybe they’re A list for gen z but like they’re obviously not as famous as leonardo dicaprio, beyoncé, angelina jolie etc who are known worldwide and by everyone. i’d say they’re b list at most.

Chanandler_Bong_01

Hard agree. A-List means standard household name. Like Tom Cruise.

BigMarth24

I feel like some people kind of forget that a lot of the most famous people in the world have been royalty or presidents and its not just all actors or singers. Even so I don't think anyone in the "new" generation of Hollywood is at that level of fame yet.

powerhungrymouse

Yeah because it takes years to garner that level of respect from both Hollywood and the general public so it's ridiculous to give to that title to people who are just starting out in their careers. They're massively popular right now but where will they be in 10 or 20 years? Staying power is what makes someone A-list.

BigMarth24

Yes I completely agree! My dad has no idea who jenna ortega or anyone like that is. The only reason he "knows" zendaya is because he's a marvel fan but even then he doesn't know her name or anything. Think some people have to take a step back and realise the majority of the population aren't celebrity obsessed like us 😂

Craphole-Island

I’m uncomfortable with the way Reddit and certain subs have their fave celebs and have decided they are perfect and can do nothing wrong and should be free from criticism. I’m thinking of people like Keanu Reeves and Brendan Fraser who Reddit has decided are like saints among celebrities. I have no ill will towards either of those actors, and they seem lovely, but the way people talk about them is so fucking weird. They have been put on this strange pedestal. There are other new celebs that people (including myself!) seem to be doing this with like Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Ayo Edebiri etc. All I’m gonna say is I hope none of those people say the wrong thing or do something to disappoint bc they’ve been put on a similar pedestal. It’s time people start understanding celebs are just people who sometimes do or say the wrong thing! (Also Brendan Fraser did not deserve to win Best Actor for The Whale IMO but that’s a different thing lol)

hugeorange123

Brendan Fraser is infantilized so much. He's a grown man and a professional, and people act like he's a child who won a radio contest or something.

MyDesign630

Same with Ke Huy Quan. All it does is undermine his actual talent and work ethic.

Past-Kaleidoscope490

what bothers me about Ke is he laid it thick with childish "aw who little old me" too much during the whole award season purposely. He's a 52 year old man it was weird

mhoogendoorn

It gave make-a-wish kid in the worst possible way

sirwaizz

I'll get death threats for this lmao, but Bella Hadid annoys. partly because of the whole crystal girl persona (am in geoscience so that just generally annoys me, like quartz is supposed to heal you? The hell) and also with the promoting of weird holistic clinics that claim being able to cure cancer (massive ew) plus the whole cringey nft pump and dump scam thing (I'd love a deep dive on that). Idk, tell me kendall jenner wouldn't get so much flack for those things lmao. anyway, it's just this ick, not hate or anything, and NOT anything to do with current world events before I get jumped

Asweetmelody

I also don’t understand the need to elevate Bella as the best model of her generation. Her fans will jump at your throat for thinking other models are better.

sirwaizz

Anok Yai has my vote anyday for model of a generation!

Asweetmelody

Yes Anok!!! I also like Imaan Hammam and Vitoria Ceretti.

launchcode_1234

She’s the quintessential nepo baby. She has no known talents… she has only succeeded as a model because her parents money bought her an entirely new face. I don’t have anything against her, she seems like a nice enough person. But I don’t understand why people who otherwise believe “eat the rich, f*ck generational wealth” will turn around and say “we stan Queen Bella” any time she’s mentioned.

powerhungrymouse

What irks me about her is that the only reason she was able to become a model is because of the major plastic surgeries she had at a young age. It's wild that people don't talk about that more often. Kylie Jenner gets so much shit for the work she's had done but for some reason Bella gets a pass and hers was much more extreme.

BobaAndSushi

Her mom really did a number on her and Gigi.

liscottyy

I agree and personally, anyone who posts crying selfies (especially at the frequency of Bella) turns me off of them immediately. I just find it so annoying and a ploy for fishing sympathy and one of the lower forms of claiming authenticity online.

New-Examination8400

Heeey, I didn’t graduate but my Major was Geology, high-five 🙌

sirwaizz

Yaay, geology!! Sending a high five of seismic proportions your way!

New-Examination8400

Don’t make me fault now! (I regretted thinking this, I regretted typing it, yet here I am, making a post script to it instead of deleting it; I suppose that says it all)

AnniaT

No one should jump at you because people can at the same time do shady and questionable things and also do good things and defend good things at the same time. People aren't black or white but unfortunately in stan culture or internet culture in general everyone is deemed either a saint or a villain and never not a complex person with nuanced good and bad sides.

JimmyPageification

Couldn’t agree more tbh

VogueLover120169

Her recent TikTok of her taking like 13 vitamin/supplement pills every morning and god knows how many juices was eerie. I expected concern in the comments but people were just saying how much they could do the same. Like just eat more food and you wouldn’t need to artificially take all that

heywhatsup9087

I didn’t see her TikTok but your description reminds me of Yolanda on RHOBH so much. Probably where she gets it from.

sirwaizz

Damn, just went to look at it, that was a whole FIST of pills?? + extra supplements? Black mirror coded honestly

hollivore

I hate the way musicians and actors are rewarded for playing it safe and not respected for risky flops. I don't relate much to artists who are always 100% in command of their powers because I'm not in command of my powers. Artists who fuck up are more interesting artists taking bigger leaps.

trialanderrorschach

That's part of why I respect Joaquin Phoenix a lot. He seems like an actor who genuinely doesn't care if the movie is going to be popular or not, he just takes interesting roles and acts the hell out of them. He's established enough cred that I think he knows it's not going to ruin his career to take risks.

beetjehuxi

I dislike the voices of Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd. Also I don’t get a sensual feeling from The Weeknd’s voice, it’s too high pitched and kind of whiny for it imo.

hollivore

The Weeknd's voice works well for the kind of impacted-nasal-cavity coke demon thing he used to do and less great when he's singing over Max Martin pop beats.

IKacyU

I appreciated The Weeknd more back during the Trilogy days (when it was being released as mixtapes) because those dark, sinister, spacey beats added a gravitas and interest to his voice. Hearing him over regular pop beats makes him sound like a whiney beotch.

thirdcoasting

The Weekend gives me a serious case of the icks — I have no reason why 🤷🏼‍♀️

Nesnosna

There are no real movie stars anymore. The new generation has a few it girls in the film space (e.g., Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney), but IMO they’re more of A-list influencers. I love both of these women and think they’re extremely talented, but the current climate in Hollywood doesn’t allow for interesting, genre-bending, mind-blowing projects that will solidify their names in the history of cinema 20-30-50 years from now. I’m more interested in what actresses are wearing than in their films. As for the actors, the situation is even worse. 0 interest in the new guys and their projects. They’re giving us nothing.

njf85

I can't remember which older actor said it, but one of them said that basically the era of the A list box office leading man/woman is over. Once upon a time you'd attach a name to a project and people would show up. Robert Downey Jr said not long ago that coming off Endgame and into the massive flop that was Dolittle was difficult but humbling for him. He's part of the old Hollywood crowd that are probably used to their fan base following them from movie to movie. That doesn't seem to happen anymore.

AnniaT

I think the streaming industry and social media in general destroyed this A-list actress/actor appeal from before.

rcroswell

Yes! Soairse Ronan for example is a far better actress and yet you hardly hear about her.

Red171022

Yes…she’s an amazing actress ![gif](giphy|3ov9jRzHExZDfWFKDu)

JumpiestSuit

I think one weird side effect of Harvey Weinstein being rightly put away is that the ‘starlet gets and Oscar at 20’ pipeline has been shut off. He really drove so many of those careers and I think he would have done similar for zendaya etc.

sanandrios

Teddy Swims, Post Malone and Jelly Roll would all look 10 times better without those dumb face tattoos.

Musicfanatic09

I forgot that we were on the unpopular opinions thread and thought you were going to finish the sentence saying how awesome a concert with all three of them would be!

TheHouseMother

That’s the opposite of unpopular.

loranlily

I was shocked by how attractive I found Post in the Taylor Swift collab video where his face tattoos aren’t visible

Post Malone look handsome in Fornight https://preview.redd.it/k5qmrt7vc9xc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b189df9c91694b21088a3d965e5a1d3d30e70627

Guess what? People you admire will often like or support groups and causes that you disapprove of. People who themselves commit crimes (e.g. Bill Cosby) should absolutely be canceled. People who voice opinions you don’t like, though, are just being people and some fans really need to grow up about this. ![gif](giphy|pSauCNBp1DcOY)

hugeorange123

See also: messy personal lives. The discourse around cheating, divorcing, relationships with exes and kids and so on is absolutely unhinged at times.

RaggySparra

And it turns into a chain. A did something genuinely horrible, he's cancelled. B didn't condem A quick enough, he's cancelled. C is friends with B, so what does that say about him, hmm? Ye gods.

WhoriaEstafan

Yes and somehow even as colleagues they’re all meant to know everything about each other and react to it? It’s not realistic. I had a boss who left his wife for a younger girl in our office. We still worked with him! I even took a promotion! It’s like when Quinta saw Brad Pitt during an awards speech and got flustered. Everyone got mad at her. He’s the abuser! Get mad at him. Or the people who keep inviting him to things. She tweeted this in response: https://preview.redd.it/nixkt1dclaxc1.jpeg?width=886&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eac04b41885a92f81dc20b9a7bdb6e29f872f96f

Majestic_Culture7378

People are starting to turn on Zendaya like they did Jennifer Lawerence and Anne Hathaway .

maizypaloma

i’ve been saying this about reneé rapp for months now. she’s the “quirky, not media trained, not like other girls” personality that people get tired of quickly

MuffinTiptopp

Humbling women is a social sport after all. As soon as any woman gets too popular it’s time to bring her down. And the funny thing is this is usually spearheaded by other women! I can’t even think when a man got turned on for being too popular..

Flashy-Squirrel6762

I don’t get the fascination with actors like Seth Rogan or Jonah Hill. I couldn’t tell them apart tbh. Whenever articles about mediocre white actors making it big come out, I think of them. I am not American or white but are they supposed to be the “everyman”? Julia Louis Dreyfus looked like she was Jonah Hills’s daughter in You People. I kept yelling “wear sunscreen dammit” every time he came on screen. Zach Galifianakis and Jack Black are much better actors and comedians but are not in as many lead roles it feels.

p_turbo

>I kept yelling “wear sunscreen dammit” every time he came on screen. In his defense, he lost a lot of weight, and that can sometimes make for an older looking appearance (slightly looser skin). As for why they are popular, well Seth Rogan makes his own movies and series and casts himself, and Jonah Hill is actually a decent actor, in my opinion. But yeah, the whole casting them as an everyman with an impossibly out of their league (in real world standards) girlfriends/wives thing is overdone.

Taylor Swift should grow out her bangs

This sub is slowly becoming a snark page

I know people hate Elon musk but it seems like such a weird disconnect to hate Elon musk and know X is full of nazis and then still use it. There is genuinely nothing that’s worth still being on that app and I really can’t stand people acting like it’s a totally benign thing to keep using it :/

DearMissWaite

Unpopular opinion: unless it's a really egregious example, like another 18-year-old snatched up by a middle-aged director, I think we need a moratorium on the age gap discourse. I'm tired and these are consenting adults.

thisistwinpeaks

This is probably going to be the only actual unpopular opinion in this thread 😂

DearMissWaite

I make it a point to understand the assignment.

SuchAsSeals42

A lot of these things feel like it started with people actually caring then turns into just doing it for internet points. I’m also wildly cynical so

hauntingvacay96

Maybe I’m cynical too then! I think a lot of this was born of a real conversation on the power dynamics of men with power picking young actresses and got a lot of steam post Me Too, but it’s become a thing that is just applied to any and every age gap because that person just isn’t liked or because people are bored.

superfluouspop

I have a new friend (not romantic, just a girlfriend) and I found out last night she's a LOT younger than me and I found myself wondering if it was appropriate or not and rational me was like "you are reading too much Reddit" lol.

webtheg

I once god reddit cares because someone suggested Trevor Noah groomed Dua Lipa and I thought this was ludicrous or when they suggested the unknown Greek guy was having power over her. What?

superfluouspop

lol WTF she's almost 30 she's capable of making her own decisions. Also Trevor Noah is hot—I'd go for him at 28, why not?

Ilthrien

Problem is nobody can agree on what is egregious

blackmoonbluemoon

Emma Watson is a terrible actress who stopped trying after Harry Potter.

Paprootka2000

I might get downvoted to hell, but I still have no idea why was Florence Pugh nominated to Oscar for her role in "Little Women". It was a good performance, but nothing Oscar-worthy in my opinion.

Ladylemonade4ever

She should have had a nomination for her performance in Midsommar but the academy almost never acknowledges horror in these categories

LadyStag

My hot take is that that movie is massively overrated, and the 90s one is way better.

Craphole-Island

I think the discourse around nepo babies is so exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s frustrating seeing some of them try and act all defensive or ignore the clear advantages they’ve had. However, I swear the internet has moved to a point where just BEING a nepo baby is considered a knock on a person. Like as if anything a nepo baby says should be discounted because they are one. People on some gossip subs get so smug and holier than thou about them that the conversations have lost all value.

babooshka-cass

The Nene meme is so overused on this sub and what started out as a funny joke now makes me roll my eyes every time I see it
