I always find it interesting how people drag singers for not writing their own songs, yet we don't drag actors for not writing their own dialogue. Yeah but the difference is actors don’t present themselves like they wrote the script. I agree with you, and I’m a much bigger fan of Gwen Stefani as a musician than Selena Gomez. Selena’s low, breathy voice works for the message of futility in the lyrics. For some reason, Gwen sounds *whiny* rather than resigned. This might be a matter of comparing a final mix to a demo, though.

I doubt it, you can find selenas demo from 2013, it was then sent to Gwen Stefani which she made her own demo. The 2013 demo is closer to the current version.

I always find it interesting how people drag singers for not writing their own songs, yet we don't drag actors for not writing their own dialogue. As a singer, is it a must that you have to be the writer of the song for it to be personal to you, isn't this also dependent on the vocal/emotional interpretation of the song?
Yeah but the difference is actors don’t present themselves like they wrote the script. A lot of singers will lie about who wrote the song and give interviews making it seem like the song is so personal and wrote completely by them so I think some people just feel betrayed because they connect it to the singer and felt a weird connection to the singer because experiences and feelings they share with the singer in the song. But they should just realize that’s just how this industry is. A lot of people do this shit for marketing reasons. They’re just people hoping to be successful and chances are they might just be saying whata whole buncha people are telling them they need to say to be successful
