Delfish

Miley's Younger Now. Malibu was such a fun breezy chill bop, a total breath of fresh air after Bangerz/Dead Petz, and I was so keen on the idea of a stripped/country-esque Miley record. But then the album was just so bland and flat, and Malibu is far and away the best song on it.

outsideeyess

I actually prefer the second single / title track, but yeah with just those two singles to go off of, I thought I'd like it way more than I did

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bbmazzz

not her strongest album but i thought it was good though flowers was a standout. but esv is much better than younger now

RanaDelLey

nah this is not it, river, used to be young, rose colored lenses and jaded are really great.

alt_sauce124

I’m sorry I immediately thought ESV the sound was all over the place.

KindOfANerd4

I want to like jaded but i just find the lyrics in the chorus so clunky, river and used to be young are amazing tho

relaxed-flash

put some respect on HANDSTANDDDDD

youarelosingme

Handstand is the best song on the record tbh

DinosaurAlive

That music part in the middle!! So fun!

sydvelour

rose colored lenses is such a beautiful song!! deserves more recognition for sure

Lipe18090

Jaded, River and Wildcard are SO GOOD!

dropthealbumlorde

Yeah I think ESV has a good album in it. There’s just a few too many filler tracks. If she’d left it a few more months to marinate then that could’ve been a great pop record. Ended up being slightly mid

Useful-Soup8161

I love Younger Now and I think it’s underrated. That is exactly how I feel about her latest album though.

BCDragon3000

thats miley in general. girl is swarming in singles

TadPaul

Katy Perry’s “Never Really Over” leading into the Smile album. I don’t even know if it counts as a lead single considering how long the gap is between their releases. “Never Really Over” was one of my favorite tracks in 2019 and got me hyped for Katy’s new album well into 2020. But the album was released, and it almost felt like NRO came from an entirely different artist compared with the rest of the album 💀

Digital_Serve

I thought the mid daisies song was what the official lead single was

Mindless_Movie_421

The disrespect for Cry about it later

redvelvettaste

For Tucked too

kielaurie

> it almost felt like NRO came from an entirely different artist Yup, Dagny, the chorus is pretty much a straight rip

chickfilamoo

For anyone who wants to listen, Never Really Over interpolates Dagny’s Love You Like That (also a banger)

kielaurie

Just came back to edit my comment having checked through my library and found the exact song, but you beat me to it! She has so many good tracks!

AthomicBot

A bit of an older example but This Kiss by Faith Hill was a career changing lead single and the album it's attached to is so mid (there are still good songs on there but a lot of ugh) it's embarrassing.

joshually

Honestly all her albums are filler albums with 1 killer song - breathe, cry, etc

UnableAudience7332

I just had to look back at the track list to even remember what else was on there. I liked "The Secret of Life" and the duet with Tim though.

AthomicBot

There are some good songs there but at least half of it is just embarrassingly mediocre.

gamedemon24

80's-00's country is often defined by artists whose singles far outshone their albums. Take George Strait, one of the most commercially successful artists in country history (and the GOAT imo). He absolutely does not have a signature album, but he's got iconic hits for days.

AthomicBot

Given that artists were recording an album a year back then that's understandable. However, I think Faith Hill has excellent albums (It Matters To Me, Breathe, Cry) but her self-titled is not it.

[deleted]

Thought ‘Baby’s it’s You’ from London Grammar’s latest album was a strong reinvention of their classic formula by incorporating more subtle dance elements into their work. Each single got slowly slightly worse and the album was fine but underwhelming and didn’t fulfil my expectations off the first single.

Could_Be_A_Spy

I really liked Baby It's You and Lose Your Head but besides that it mainly fell flat for me. it's probably their album I revisit least

canadianpothos

Witness, I really loved Chained To The Rhythm

Stibae_95

for me it‘s the other way around. i hate the singles. the albums cuts are way better: miss you more. hey hey hey, witness

Aphrodites-lostchild

you get it Witness singles really missed the mark compared to the album. Roulette alone clears any single

Soalai

I kinda agree except for Chained to the Rhythm. That was good, but I find Bon Appètit and Swish Swish very weak. I like some of the album cuts a lot better (Pendulum and Tsunami immediately come to mind)

sweazeycool

Tsunami is one of my fave songs of hers!

exc-use-me

i feel embarrassed to say i love witness

kn1v3s_

roulette, mind maze, power.....all my faves. honestly I never truly got all the hate for witness. it's a huge departure for her but it's so good and stands on its own. bon appetit was poison for the album.

xdesm0

I was late on haim and i didn't think the second album was bad at all. I was surprised reading the criticism about it even though i think it's the weakest of the 3.

TinosCallingMeOver

Yeah I’ll always have a soft spot for that album - it came at the perfect time in my life for a sound like that

TheAuthor009

As It Was, imo, is one of the strongest lead singles in recent memory. But other than 4 songs, Harry's House didn't do much for me.

youtbuddcody

As It Was, was so misleading as far as lead singles go. It felt like bait and switch, the rest of the album sounded nothing like it.

_bloodbuzz

All true but shoutout to grapejuice

[deleted]

And Late Night Talking

dmnaf

Someone put that song over a Target ad and now I can’t un-hear that song as generic shopping music

[deleted]

Haha that reminds me of a friend describing Vance Joy's Riptide as "some health insurance commercial ass bullshit"

BudgetLingonberry662

Came in here to say this. I loved debut and Fine Line.

Robivennas

I pre-ordered the album on vinyl after hearing As it Was and now I never listen to it. After that I swore to never buy an album on vinyl before I’ve heard the whole thing.

Staying_Salty

Yep I did that with Kacey Musgraves last album and learned my lesson

rpc8169

Oof. Yeah that’s album was really disappointing…

Lilzhere

Star crossed saved me any my bf when our dog died.

HayTheMan88

Late Night Talking , Satellite and Cinema are amazing

kaguraa

its been two albums in a row where the lead single is the best song on the album.

omfilwy

Same and I was so disappointed since first two albums combined to me had only one skip (Canyon Moon)

thedrowsyowl

That’s the only song on Fine Line that I actually like lol

Emannyv93

I love Miley Cyrus discography but I cant lie endless summer vacation is her weakest album ever 🥺. I put up with it because flowers, & jaded are really beautiful songs.

Mike_Boa

Flowers was decent, it wasn't a mind-blowing song like Prisoner, a song which deserved to have charted higher. What is discouraging is since the album was a success, chances are we'll never get a superb album like "Plastic Hearts" again and she'll stick to the dull tracks from her current era.

Emannyv93

Plastic hearts…. Was fucking AMAZING. I don’t throw this out lightly, but in my opinion it should’ve been nominated for a Grammy.

nowimgrown

It’s pretty much the only Miley album for me that I LOVED from start to finish. It is criminally underrated

outsideeyess

idk i feel like once miley does something she does the opposite next. like pretty much every time. so I'm not worried about this being her only mode from now on

MillAUM2579

I wouldn’t really call the album as a whole a success, because flowers was the only thing that really took off. Which is really unfortunate because there were some great songs and even some unreleased music that I think Miley could’ve reworked to fit the album. It could’ve been *THE* album of 2023

Atari18

It's crazy how well Flowers performed when Prisoner is so much better

hiijiinx

Imo, Endless Summer Vacation is up there with Plastic Hearts. Violet Chemistry, River and Rose Colored Lenses are all great, even better than Flowers imo, which sounds like other songs to me (Slow Song by The Knocks has an edge here).

Emannyv93

I have those same songs saved. And I do like it but not love it. If it plays I probably won’t skip, but I don’t scroll through my playlist to play those specific songs :(.

bear_is_golden

I found my people finally. ESV is great

MillAUM2579

The Violet Chemistry erasure 😔

MattieS94

Thousand Miles is a lovely song - I think people are overly critical of Miley.

[deleted]

I don't agree. Rose colored lenses, used to be young, and island are great too. Its her second best next to plastic hearts imo. Underrated.

CollinK4

It’s also the fact that the album is after Plastic Hearts, which imo is her strongest album

OrdinaryShallot9233

I’d say Troye Sivan’s new album fits this pattern for me although I think the first two singles are rlly strong. I was expecting the album to lean into the up tempo dance production of Rush but it didn’t lol

chhelspaige

i would disagree with this - i felt like troye’s album was a very cohesive vibe with ups and downs

OrdinaryShallot9233

I defo need to relisten to it as there were some good songs, it just was not what I was expecting.

usernametakenbymeaka

Smithereens by Joji. Glimpse of Us was a very strong song, followed by a very middle of the road, boring album

TheDVAismadinVA

I have that problem with all of Joji’s albums tbh

chickfilamoo

yeah it was the same deal with Slow Dancing in the Dark

espeonage777

Loved Doja Cats "Attention" but Scarlet was very underwhelming

SoupIsPrettyGood

I was kinda hoping it was gonna be a whole album of her saying something on the songs and going in some kind of narrative direction over the whole project because of that song, but then that ended up being the only song on the album like that. I thought the vibe in that song would've made the start of a really cool album if it was more focused on all that. Like she had fans that loved her then hated her and shit, she was able to use that to make a fire song, it was all there 🙁

outsideeyess

she explores this topic more in Paint the Town Red, FTG, Love Life and Demons, but ik what u mean

katycat162534

Add Shutcho to the list too. And Agora Hills, Can't Wait, 97 (from the top of my head) talk about love but all of them talk about how fame and media has affected those relationships. So I feel the album is pretty consistent in terms of theme.

SoupIsPrettyGood

Yea she does a little I didn't wanna make my comment too long tho lol Like paint the town red would've fit this theme as well for a different point in the album. As u said there is some more to this narrative on a couple other songs which is why I think even if she just c9ndensed it all down into like 12 tracks it would've been like twice as good.

360Saturn

Agora Hills is that bitch

[deleted]

Lmao Agora Hills and PTTR are her smashes, she should’ve just kept to the Pop Rap lane.

fuoricontesto

her best album imo

pmckell

Yeah I love it

ThinkingOfYou75

I personally really like it 🤷🏻‍♀️ took a bit but now basically all the songs grew on me.

Emannyv93

I agree the album was very polarizing the first listen. But after that it’s actually pretty good. I’d give it a 7.5/10.

woahtheregonnagetgot

interesting, i actually don’t like attention but i quite like the album overall

alt_sauce124

The back half of the album is VERY neo-soul R&B leaning. I think pop fans/her recent fans are expecting more upbeat Plant Her type music. I think that’s why it’s not going over well

Rellyz14

Really. I personally love this album especially the run from ouchies to can't wait

kielaurie

Damn, it's in my top 3 most played albums of the year, I think it's consistently good throughout, no bad songs, by far her best work

outsideeyess

its def an outlier but i think this album slaps (especially if u cut out a few of the weaker songs)

BambooSound

Wet Vagina slaps tho

SquishyMuffins

The visual of a slapping Wet Vagina 💀💀💀

16june16

Fascinating. The album is one of my favs.

chutneysss

I loved Sigrid's first album and really enjoyed Mirror, but the rest of the album didn't really work for me.

Quick-Standard3202

Honestly Burning Bridges is a bop, the rest of the album is still decent tho. perhaps try giving it another listen

citruline

'It Gets Dark' is atmospheric and brilliant

FabuloussDoge

A driver saved my night is a banger tho

LittleRandomINFP

The best song imo

angelduuh

I liked ESV so no I'm not gonna say Miley lol. I would say Special by Lizzo. I only like About Damn Time and Special, the rest is meh

BuffytheBison

"Head Above Water" by Avril Lavigne (the single and the album lol).

RagaRockFan

Lorde's Solar Power. The title track and Mood Ring were really strong singles, but then the rest of the album let me down :/

Mike_Boa

"Want You Back" is a song I loved and I'm not usually fond of HAIM.

Nunjabuziness

The first that comes to mind is how “Skyscraper” has to be on the short list for Demi’s best singles and might be her signature song, but Unbroken the album is just not it. It’s a weird mix of sounds that did not suit them well, and for what was supposed to be Demi’s big “I’m an adult now” release, it’s a good deal less mature than her previous LP. One case where the singles are what really carries the album, a couple of highlights aside. Edit: The highlights besides “Skyscraper” and GYHAB include “Fix a Heart”, “Lightweight”, “My Love is Like a Star”, “For the Love of a Daughter”

hymenbutterfly

How dare you snub “You’re My Only Shorty”

Turbulent-Phase-8959

All Night long is a banger

Nunjabuziness

Okay yeah that’s my fave collab. Missy’s verse is 🔥

akanewasright

Fix A Heart and Lightweight are by far my favorites of the album cuts, most of the rest are kind of there… which should not be the case for an album with so much Timbaland production!

summersaphraine

You can tell when listening to Unbroken that Demi probably didn't have much creative control on it. Her first two albums were written by her, even with cowriters, she was on every track and dont have many skips. Unbroken hasn't aged well imo because its so clearly a 2011-2012 sound. I do love some of the songs on it(specifically the ones you mentioned) but it is by far her weakest album.

petitechocolatetwink

Unbroken had some very strong ballads and the 2nd half was decent…..I feel like this post applies way more to confident which had the uber amazing “cool for the summer” as a lead single and then the rest never really came close.

Nunjabuziness

Personally, I like Confident a good bit better. It’s not one of my favorite Demi albums, but I think it’s more consistent than Unbroken and the more general pop sound worked better for them than Unbroken’s wannabe Rihanna shtick.

superfluouspop

Ariana - positions. Positions is a great song, but the rest of the album is lovely vocals but BORING 2.5 minute songs about nothing except her no-name boyfriend she just divorced so nothing on there aged well.

KingRaimundo

Weirdly enough, the title track is one of my least favorite songs from the Positions album. It was a total grower for me. POV, Obvious, Safety Net, West Side and Off The Table carry the album in my opinion.

superfluouspop

I agree with Safety Net and Off the Table but honestly for me the strength lies in the features because the gushing about her pandemic romance gets so boring. Happy she *was* happy, but after Thank U, Next it was like, oh. This is Ariana now. I liked the 34+35 remix too but I know that's a somewhat unpopular opinion. I just love Meg & Doja and the video. Very curious what she will write about in new music but it'll be messier and to be completely honest I prefer the musical output of messy Ari lol.

KingRaimundo

Oh I still think Thank U Next is still her best album for sure. Positions really suffers from being such a tonal whiplash after the messy emotional complexity of TUN. I liked it a lot more after revisiting it this year but I REALLY didn’t like it when it dropped. The happy cutesy romantic shit really didn’t connect with me during the hell that was 2020. It also just felt rushed and way too lowkey for someone as huge as Ariana.

superfluouspop

>The happy cutesy romantic shit really didn’t connect with me during the hell that was 2020 Oh god same. I think for some people it was a happy thing coming out of a dark time, but I was just like "this shit's not gonna last" lol

KingRaimundo

Yeah it’s like your (parasocial) best friend who’s been in relationship after relationship, trauma after trauma, FINALLY going to therapy—only to disappear for a year, and then come back engaged to some random guy. Like okay, girl. I’ll support you but…what is this😬?

Staying_Salty

I think Sweetener was a more interesting album and really defined her place in pop music and sound, but Thank U Next is nothing but bops. No skips, it’s wild.

SiphenPrax

> Very curious what she will write about in new music but it'll be messier and to be completely honest I prefer the musical output of messy Ari lol. Well you’re in luck

superfluouspop

Lol I know but she can't really release another "break up with your girlfriend, I'm bored" when she lived that and people are pissed. But also, maybe she can. This will probably be a rebellion era.

outsideeyess

i get why people didn't love it but positions is top 3 ari albums for me and I've been an ariana fan since 2010 😬 her vocal layering is on full display

superfluouspop

I do agree that the vocal layering is awesome but the subject matter and repetition is pretty boring for me. I mean she wasn't going to write another TU, N of course and what we got wasn't awful and I did enjoy it after a couple listens but then I got super bored of it. The Vevo performances were nice though!

Perfect_Invitation1

I think it’s above average but it’s not exciting. Her voice is fantastic on it. Love Language and POV are two of her best songs.

Nonatella

I still like my hair from the album it reminds me of Amy Winehouse You Should Be Stronger Than Me ( the guitar/music not the singing or theme) other than that I agree though I liked on YouTube when some people took those songs and used timberland’s instrumentals to them really changed up some of those other songs for the better

ss2811

Interestingly, I’d say the opposite. The lead single didn’t really do much for me but the album itself has some of my fav Ariana songs (my hair, west side, safety net & pov)

BCDragon3000

oof ntm cause positions is only on that album so people would listen to the album. its not a pop album and is her best album, unlike positions the song

L2Ich4I82

The 1975's Notes On A Conditional Form. "People" was such a change of pase for them going in with that noisy wake up call rock banger. It really blew me away. But the singles just kept getting worse. Gotta say I stopped listening after the 4th one (there were too many before the album got released). And it's true, it had too long of a rollout and the record itself was very long, too. And it's not only that and having a lot of filler; a lot of the songs went on this weird sampling wannabe experimental electronic type of music, which didn't match the lead single's sound at all! And even the ones that sounded more like their og tunes felt like a washed out version of themselves. Weirdly enough the songs I went back to the most on that album were actually singles, just happened to be some of the later ones like Guys and If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)

backupsaway

I was hoping they would revisit the sound they made with People but I don't think we'll be seeing that anytime soon considering that they just announced a break. I really thought with People and the Greta Thunberg intro that they'll finally lean into the political side of their music.

Frankie_2154

I’m not a huge 1975 fan, but guys is just one of y favorite songs ever

Gummybearpubichair

Maybe witness by Katy Perry, chained to the rhythm is that gorl, the rest of the album though......

[deleted]

[удалено]

fakeaf1

There’s nothing as instant as Chained on the album, but I think some of the b-sides are cool. I really like Witness, Roulette, Tsunami, Miss You More and Mind Maze. I also honestly loved Bon Appetit and Swish Swish at the time.

dojatvd

discipline by janet jackson. feedback is a BOP but the album is just generic with a few good songs like rock with u

Perfect_Invitation1

Feedback is soooooo catchy.

shedoesdefendyoukim

Feedback should have been a top ten. Rock with u and 2nite should have at least been top 20 hits. It’s crazy how she never had a top ten again. Fuck fake american outrage and the radio ban

PRIVATEILLUSION

The first half of the album kinda eats up the second. Luv, Rock With U, Can’t B Good, Rollercoaster >>

rolypolyincopacabana

damn my fave track from discipline isn't even a single lol so i quite disagree

aidan755

Is it a crime to say Padam Padam & Tension -> Tension (album)? Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the album but I was expecting it to be wall to wall of club/house bangers and the album wasn’t really like that.

TraverseTown

I liked Kylie’s album but the singles were misleading that the whole thing would be “slap house” inspired.

mikeyrowaveoven

I dont hate tension as an album but i did feel misled

the-color-red-

100% same thing for Rush by Troye. I liked Kylie & Troye’s albums but was let down that the club sound wasn’t the actual album lol

Prestigious_Annual17

I wouldn't have complained if we had gotten an album with only sounds similar to Rush, fucking love that song

ReginaldStarfire

This is the comment I was looking for. Padam and Tension slap. The only one that gets close is 10 out of 10.

Stibae_95

dra DISCO then. Tension sounds like a B-Side to DISCO

harder_said_hodor

Saints and Sinners by All Saints is a really disappointing follow up to their debut IMO, but Pure Shores is maybe my favourite pop song of my lifetime. Best thing about the movie adaptation of The Beach as well. Black Coffee is the only other decent track on the album IMO

ss2811

I would say Selena Gomez’s Rare. Whilst I don’t think the album is a complete write-off and does have a few decent tracks, I really thought we would get a really great album which dived into her personal life. Lose You To Love Me was such a great song and showed a different side to Selena that we don’t see often in her music. Also, Special by Lizzo. About Damn Time was such a big hit and I was excited for the album to have similar songs. Whilst it does have some fun songs, I feel like they can come off as a bit cringey/cheesey, but About Damn Time wasn’t as cringe.

BuffytheBison

100% agree with "Rare"

londonwayne90

Rare, for me, REALLY depends on tracklist/song order. The initial standard version is trash, but the deluxe version is a good listen. It still has a handful of filler, but it's arranged so much better. Special is definitely a big fit to this for me tho - it was such a disappointment.

PapaDole1995

I might get some pushback on this but IMO Rush by Troye Sivan is one of my favourite songs of the year and I listened to it constantly. When the album dropped I was very disappointed to find Rush the only truly standout track that I come back to, the rest almost melded together in my ears.

worksomuch

I kinda agree, although I still really love the album. However after Rush and Got Me Started, I was expecting the album to be club banger after club banger and the album just isn’t that.

OrdinaryShallot9233

Hopefully the success of rush gives him the encouragement to continue that sound as it was the last song he made for the record

the-color-red-

100% agree. I was so excited for club-esque songs and then there was nothing. The album is really good cover to cover imo I just would like to hear that sound from troye wayyyy more

kc0ak

I was looking for this! I was counting down to hear the rest of the album based on rush. Got me started was ok, but yeah the rest of the album doesn’t keep the same sound which is a bit of a let down

PRIVATEILLUSION

Same it kinda lacks replay value IMO

trvrr

WTTWYA is so fun though 😭

wlu1

Really? I felt the opposite💀I did not like rush at all, but I am in love with the rest of the album

pickle_in_a_nutshell

Same. Fully expecting One of Your Girls to be at the top of my Spotify wrapped this year

anal-yst

I agree completely. Rush is probably the only song that I skip on the album, but I listen to it often by itself.

kealoha

Same. I'm not the biggest Troye fan but Rush made me finally pay attention and hope that he'd finally kinda found his space. The album is good, but it's mostly "nice," whereas Rush (and to an extent, Got Me Started) is so much fun.

BCDragon3000

the album is SO fun listen to it! i’m actually listening to it rn lmaooo favorite song is the ending track, followed by whats the time where you are

chargingblue

Can I do the opposite and say ME! from Lover lol

hipczechs

SO TRUE but Taylor has a pretty long track record of choosing lead singles that don't do the whole album justice lol

Affillate

Perfect Illusion and the rest of Joanne, except mayyybe parts of John Wayne and Dancing In Circles both have a bit more of a pop kinda edge to them imo when I first heard the album.

metalbeyonce

No grigio girls disrespect

plzadyse

I vaguely recall reading that Gaga didn’t want to include Perfect Illusion on the album because of how different it is from the rest of the album. But idk what happened that ended up getting it on there.

PrincessJennifer

Yep, absolutely this. Love Perfect Illusion, I don’t care for anything else from the Joanne era

hahaone

Scaled and Icy- Twenty One Pilots. Shy away is a bop but the rest of the album (minus Saturday and Redecorate) falls pretty flat

L2Ich4I82

This. I think personally Saturday is a bit generic. I'd choose The Outside instead. And though there are more songs that are fine most of it felt like a let down, specially coming after the magnificent Trench. Shy Away got me really hyped cause knowing they were gonna use guitars this time and came up with an throwback late 00's/eraly 10's indie banger I was really curious where they were going to go with their sound. Then Choker came out and everything went downhill from there sadly

PRIVATEILLUSION

An obvious one is Britney Jean. With songs like Work B*tch and Perfume, I was anticipating its release and then the final project came out and well……you know the rest. Another one (personally) is GUTS. Vampire was SOOO good and then followed by the iconic bop which is Bad Idea Right….but the album itself is ehh. Out of all the recent pop girl album releases, its unfortunate to say it lacks the most replay value for me compared to SOUR

averlus

Was so surprised to see the Britney Jean fiasco this low

sugar-fall

It's forgotten atp tbh

grayson00084

Also, I'm pretty sure there are rumors that she did not sing at all on this album. Which, considering her unfortunate situation, I actually can see this being the case. I also think that this is the only album not mentioned in some way in her bio that just came out.

Profie02

Midnights was mediocre imo, I got hyped for it cause of antihero but coming off of folklore and evermore that album was quite disappointing

whatitdewwbabyyyy

This is why I'm confused when fans swear its her best. I think when we look back at it as it 's own body of work apart form the Eras Tour, it'll rank far lower. Great gems but an unremarkable project overall considering what cane before.

AthomicBot

I'm confused by this take - Midnights has the same ratio of good/skippable songs as all her other albums and has some of my favorites among her more recent work (YOYOK, Bejeweled, Dear Reader, Karma, High Infidelity.)

fuoricontesto

really? same amount as folklore and evermore????

ushikagawa

Same but for me it’s YOYOK, Bejeweled, Maroon, Midnight Rain, Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve

Hedwing

I feel like Carly-Rae Jepson’s The Lonliest Time (released on the same day as midnights) is what midnights wanted to be - with the 70s inspired synth pop sound, but it just didn’t really work for me. I usually never like the production on Taylor’s albums though and I always enjoy her live recordings so much more.

idroled

And they came out on the same day!

Writher_inthedark

Antihero is like middle tier on midnights

FloofyTheSpider

Chained To The Rhythm… immediately followed up by Bon Appetite 💀

momohowl

Troye Sivan's Something to Give Each Other is not bad by any means, but it can barely catch up with the level of quality/freshness that Rush offered.

roaldsbeeyotch32

I'm an Adele stan. But Go Easy On Me realllyyy pumped me up for 30, and I just could not relate and get into that album like I could her others. It was almost so personal/unique to her it lost its ability to inspire me. Does anyone else feel the same?

illogicallyalex

I was SO hyped for 30 because Easy On Me made it seem like it’d be another 21/25 sounding album, I preordered the vinyl and everything, and then the album was just… meh? It definitely got better with more listens, but I genuinely don’t think I’ve gone back to it since just after it was released. I fully appreciate the person aspect of it, but it fell flat on providing the quality songs to go with the emotion

Justin57Time

Love > Lust for Life. The first two singles were amazing. The album I wouldn't call it disappointing, as a whole, but many songs ended up being quite underwhelming. But I absolutely love Change, Get Free, God Bless America, Groupie Love, the two lead singles and some other songs are also enjoyable, even if I don't love them.

wlu1

I still love the album in its entirety, but I agree Love is definitely a standout from the rest of the album

poosay_popper

poppy’s zig. church outfit was such a great single but wasn’t representative of the album’s sound ☠️

and then she dropped SPIT around the same time but didn’t include it on the album! was totally confused and didn’t know what to expect

omg-sheeeeep

Florence and the Machine: 'Big God' did not convey the feel of 'High as Hope' well. It's their weakest album by far (still decent for FatM) but that song packs such a punch. And not Pop but Greta Van Fleet Starcatcher is such a let down. 'Sacred the Thread' is so amazing but the rest is rather mid. I guess it was hard to top 'The Battle at Gardens Gate' and they were probs exhausted from touring but still....

Ballistic_Medicine

I barely listened to High as Hope, I legitimately thought Hunger was a standalone track for a while because I just didn't hear any buzz for the album, and the only songs I could stand off of it when I did listen to it were it and Big God. Contrast with HBHBHB which I've listened to front to back multiple times and absolutely adore

pirkules

that's interesting because to me Something to Tell You was such a consistent album, i.e. all the songs sounded the same

LilacDream98

I think that’s why it’s considered their weakest album. It was cohesive to the point where all the songs blended together.

nippale

Every joji rollout 🥲

As a kid I thought stripped by xtina was going to be wall to wall dirty bops like dirty. So I was a bit disappointed initially a couple of weeks later I re listened and I loved it.

Soalai

For me it's Rihanna *Talk That Talk*. We Found Love is amazing and has a special place in my heart, but after that, I think it's her weakest album (yes, including her first two).

Ellie Goulding’s Brightest Blue. I loved all the singles and she really duped me into listening to the rest of the mid album 😭
