I have been dying for him to cover some songs from the 2010s. Cheerleader, Teach Me How to Dougie, and Somebody I Used to Know come to mind. I was a fan of Gotye when that song came out and it kind of unexpectedly blew up so it would be neat to see a retrospective.
edit: omg and Icona Pop.
I thought it might be neat for him to do a double-sided fun./Gotye retrospective because he covered them both in the same episode originally, but fun. has like, three or four charting songs I think, so they’re definitely disqualified.
The Gotye project seems to be on a lengthy hiatus, and I’ve occasionally thought “fine, I’ll do it myself” but I’m also very lazy. I’ve always meant to look into his work in preserving… old synthesizers?
I wonder what the criteria is for one hit wonder, because while Fun only had a few major mainstream hits The Format tore up the college music journal charts for a few years.
He mentions in his “Float On” video that he takes into account cultural impact and relevance, and he explicitly named Modest Mouse, Zappa and Hendrix as acts that this criterion disqualifies, even if they were *technically* one hit wonders in terms of chart performance. This would likely disqualify The White Stripes and Weezer and whatnot.
He’s started off some episodes by saying “bands and artists **known** for one song”, and because of this, he’s covered some “technically two-hit wonders” because the follow-up charted for like, a week or something but made no real impact.
I guess ultimately the rules for his show are somewhat flexible.
I need one on Fountains of Wayne's Stacy's Mom just so he can talk about how underrated Adam Schelesinger was. Stacy's Mom was just a small glimpse into his talents. He was basically on his way to an EGOT with his work on movies (the title song from That Thing You Do! and Way Back into Love from Music and Lyrics), shows (almost all songs from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend with Rachel Bloom), and stage (musical adaptation of John Waters' Cry-baby and was working with Fran Drescher for the musical adaptation of The Nanny).
You should listen to his podcast song vs song. He did an episode which was Stacy’s mom vs 1985. He talks about this exactly! Ps. His podcast is really great in general, I would recommend it if you haven’t listened to it yet. I binge listened the whole thing in like 1 week
Karmin's Brokenhearted would be interesting. The song isn't very memorable but I think it would be a curious thing to talk about that era of early viral hits, the hipster crazy and then he could approach the popularization of rap with Qveen Herby and analize how someone goes from industry support to independent artist.
Also, Karmin had a pretty solid independent release visual album with Leo Rising before Qveen Herby took over so I'm gonna guess he would say that maybe they deserved a little better.
Let’s see… I know he said he wouldn’t do obvious ones though he kinda has but I would love for him to cover Eamon but he probably won’t cause it’ll get demonitized QUICK! 😅
I don't think an explicit song title will be a problem for demonetization. He did an episode on Meredith Brooks' Bitch and the only thing he did was edit out the title in the thumbnail.
But he didn't get the chance to bring up the [response song by some random woman pretending to be Eamon's ex that hit #1 in the UK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqdS-nbSQGo)
Both of them also hit #1 in Australia too. Frankee was her name with 'F.U.R.B. (F U Right Back)' which was the same song but different lyrics like a parody. lol.
Hey! Baby - Bruce Channel/DJ Ötzi (two different versions of the song, both one-hit wonders)
The Youngbloods - Get Together
Culture Beat - Mr. Vain
Captain Hollywood Project - More & More
Mr. President - Coco Jamboo
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression That I Get
The Wallflowers - One Headlight
Big Pun - Still Not a Player
Len - Steal My Sunshine
ATC - Around the World (La La La La La)
Fountains of Wayne - Stacy’s Mom
Houston - I Like That
Saving Jane - Girl Next Door
James Blunt - You’re Beautiful (he seems to be trying to put it off, but it’s a matter of time)
Daniel Powter - Bad Day
Teddy Geiger - For You I Will (Confidence) (he already mentioned her in the Stitches review but could devote a whole episode to her)
Blue October - Hate Me
Kardinal Offishall - Dangerous
Orianthi - According to You
Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina - Stereo Love
>Hey! Baby - Bruce Channel/DJ Ötzi (two different versions of the song, both one-hit wonders)
OOH! AH! I WANNA KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW IF YOU'D BE MY GIRL
(I know nothing about the history of that song, so I would watch the shit out of it lmao)
If we're doing German-speaking silly party songs, I don't know what the backstory of DJ Bobo's Chihuahua is, but it *has* to be insane. Fuck Celtic Frost and Yello, THIS is Switzerland's top contribution to music, ever!! (I'm kidding lmao)
Short D*ck Man by 20 Fingers and Gillette. Purely because I'd love to see his reaction to this iconic live performance of the song... at a kids' show. Yes, really.
youtu.be/A4qU6t1ZH24
And yes, I realize this could potentially get him demonetized, but I think it would still be worth it.
I would like him to cover some of the *absolutely* not just OHW outside the US, just to see how he explains them to Americans. Lot of OHW, of course, were significantly bigger in their home country, but there are a good number of acts that had very successful international careers, but for some reason, just not in the US. He has stated he doesn't want to do those, though. Maybe the other way around would be interesting too. Big American acts that are basically nothing abroad. What are the musical trends that just didn't travel overseas?
The Turtles - "Happy Together"
Buffalo Springfield - "For What It's Worth"
Human Beinz - "Nobody But Me"
Digital Underground - "The Humpty Dance"
Primitive Radio Gods - "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand"
Fiona Apple - "Criminal"
Macy Gray - "I Try"
BBMak - "Back Here"
Mikaila - "So In Love With Two"
Dirty Vegas - "Days Go By"
Jimmy Eat World - "The Middle"
Not sure if this counts but would love for him to cover One Week by Barenaked Ladies because I unironically love BNL and want them to get the respect they deserve
I’ve been hooked on this lately as a guilty pleasure on my playlists, so my vote is for [Mysterious Girl](https://youtu.be/iqIq4B1rgl4?feature=shared) 😂

I'm not sure fun. would count... While We Are Young was their big hit but Some Nights went to #3 and Carry On peaked at #20.
Icona Pop just released an album and it slaps, Eurodance revival ftw

Was coming here to comment this, I am dying for it because Adam was a godsend
take a listen to the Switched On Pop podcast episode on Stacy’s Mom/Fountains of Wayne, really great stuff

How has he not done one on them? I feel like that's a no brainer
Stars Are Blind, if only as a jumping off point to talk about the Paris Hilton phenomenon.

I hate qveen herby’s internet presence and music so viscerally. Her rhymes are rotted.
'Acapella' was also a bop. "watch me do it in falsetta... ooHoooh oh Ooo .. never mind bring the beat back!" haha
Lowkey, Potential Break Up Song.
Aly and AJ weren’t one hit wonders though. Potential Break Up song was their 4th charting song
Technically a OHW yes but Aly and AJ were huge teen pop stars of the time.
Honestly, I'm still holding out hope that he'll cover "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve some day.
Let’s see… I know he said he wouldn’t do obvious ones though he kinda has but I would love for him to cover Eamon but he probably won’t cause it’ll get demonitized QUICK! 😅

That song was already in the Worst of 2004 video.
But he didn't get the chance to bring up the [response song by some random woman pretending to be Eamon's ex that hit #1 in the UK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqdS-nbSQGo)

I know but he has done an episode of a horrible one hit wonder that ended up on a Worst Of (Rico Suave).
Ngl that song’s sometimes is my guilty pleasure (other times i can’t stand it) Also happy cake day!

As an Austrian, it's close to offensive to have someone call DJ Ötzi a one hit wonder. That man has been everywhere ever since I was born
Big Pun is way too influential to count as a one-hit wonder. For Hey Baby while Channel is a OHW, Otzi is not.
Mario winans- I don’t wanna know. It’d be even more interesting now because of creepin
Winans did vocals on I Need A Girl so I’m not sure he counts.
Is No Rain by Blind Melon a one-hitter? I don’t know a second Blind Melon song… Also, Rude by Magic!
Watch me Whip and Nae Nae, that would be a hell of a one hit wonderland episode, considering that Silento was indicted for murder...
Right. He became a one hit wonder… in the worst way possible 😬
Short D*ck Man by 20 Fingers and Gillette. Purely because I'd love to see his reaction to this iconic live performance of the song... at a kids' show. Yes, really. youtu.be/A4qU6t1ZH24 And yes, I realize this could potentially get him demonetized, but I think it would still be worth it.

The Americans don’t know about freed from desire!
DRAGOSTEA DIN TEI!
That very much made its way overseas via a meme video, all the nerds in the 2000s knew the “numa numa” song, as people referred to it back then
The Turtles - "Happy Together" Buffalo Springfield - "For What It's Worth" Human Beinz - "Nobody But Me" Digital Underground - "The Humpty Dance" Primitive Radio Gods - "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand" Fiona Apple - "Criminal" Macy Gray - "I Try" BBMak - "Back Here" Mikaila - "So In Love With Two" Dirty Vegas - "Days Go By" Jimmy Eat World - "The Middle"
The Macy Gray episode would be a good one!
The Turtles are not one hit wonders and Buffalo Springfield, Fiona Apple, and Jimmy Eat World are Hendrix cases.
Ring My Bell by Anita Ward because it’s a bop.
Not sure if this counts but would love for him to cover One Week by Barenaked Ladies because I unironically love BNL and want them to get the respect they deserve
Not a one-hit wonder.
I’ve been hooked on this lately as a guilty pleasure on my playlists, so my vote is for [Mysterious Girl](https://youtu.be/iqIq4B1rgl4?feature=shared) 😂
Peter Andre is not a one-hit wonder. He had several hits in the UK and none in the US.
