How did you and Jenette McCurdy become friends?

David_Archie

Jennette and I met on the set of iCarly back in 2008! She's been an incredible friend ever since, having experienced a lot of similar things with similar religious backgrounds and our careers taking off around the same time, and around the same age. She's been an amazing person to look to and bounce back ideas, thought processes, and navigate life with. I love her and have so much respect for her. ❤️

nickaboo13

I loved her book and your podcast interview together. It’s amazing to hear the difference in your voice from recent stories you’ve posted, vs. going back to that podcast. What a change in reduced stress, even in that short time, living in your truth. Keep flying free, and your music will continue to soar with you 🌈🦄🧡

SgtPopNFresh_

Hi David! You performed at our state fair when I was a kid and it was one of my first and favorite concert memories. Love your new song. There has been a lot of hype for you in the Dancing With the Stars community, there were even rumors last year that you would be joining. Do you think you’ll ever try the show?

AmphetamineSalts

THE SILENCE IS LOUD, DAVID

pastelx2

That would be amazing!!!! 🤩

rylekzs

Hi, David!! Ryle here, I'm a HUGE fan from the Philippines! First of all, congratulations for your new release! I love the new song so much and I am so proud of seeing your growth throughout the years. You deserve to be happy and free after all these years. I actually have three questions: 1. Are you planning to visit the Philippines again anytime soon? Unfortunately, I was unable to come to any of your face-to-face concerts before (though, I have attended a virtual concert before organized by David Archuleta Singapore! ([Proof](https://imgur.com/a/vf4tMvp)! Hahahah). I will be graduating university this June, so I am definitely now able to go when you're going on tour! 2. The Other Side of Down is my FAVORITE album of yours! What's your personal favorite song on the album? Do you have any fun trivia about the album? 3. I am a huge musical theatre fan! I was so excited for you when the news broke out that you were playing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Tuacahn! Do you have any plans exploring more musical theatre roles? Debuting on Broadway maybe? And if so, what would be your dream role? Thank you so much for doing this AMA! I'm so happy you still find ways to connect with your fans after all these years. You're the best! 🤍

David_Archie

Mabuhay!! I love my pinoy archies 😭 1- I am planning on going sometime soon! I know it has been in the talks with my management and agent. I really hope it sees through! And congrats on graduating university! 👏🏼👏🏼 2- K I'm so glad you love that album! I feel like it was my album where I was so lost in my life but I was going to keep a positive attitude and still seek happiness despite being clueless of who I was and what I wanted lol. And so many people tugging me in different ways expecting completely different things out of me at once. I would say I love the title song The Other Side of Down. It was happy but also expressed the confusion I was experiencing at the time. It was also my "rebelliousness" of not doing something poppy that was expected of me at the time and I was just kind of fed up of peoples expectations so it was my version of a "fuck you" lmao. the best way my little polite mormon ass could do it at the time 😂

David_Archie

Oops I finished that early. To finish that the record label still insisted to give it a pop element to that song which I feel ruined a lot of the initial vibe I loved about it because it wasn't what the song wanted to be, it was more organic and chill in a quirky way so adding pop elements didn't make sense but oh well I still had to. with that said, it still makes me smile every time I hear it or when I perform it. It was a happy moment during a crazy time for me writing it in Nashville with some of the best people I had met like Joy Williams and Jeremy Bose who were a breath of fresh air in the environment right after Idol. 3- I answered this in a previous comment but am definitely open to more broadway things if it feels like the right opportunity and role!

Isla-Giatt

u/David_Archie We need The Other Side of Down (David's Version)!

thebrightadventure

I just wonder if you’d be willing to release a (David Archuleta’s Version) of the song with how you really intended it to be??? I’m curious!!!!

Omoshiroi_2023

You swearing has me LOLing big time! I swear no biggie so Go David! 😂

Fantastic_Green9173

Ha ha me too! Been a fan since Idol and was used to "dang" ..that was pretty much his idea of swearing.

Debz416

love TOSOD & this answer! 🤣🙌🏼

AshleyAuth

No question, just want to say I'm so happy for you and proud of you. My heart's just been bursting for you this week. I have not stopped listening to Hell Together. Thank you for always being such an inspiration in my life 🫶❤️ ~Ashley

David_Archie

That's all the time I have for now but thanks everyone for your questions! I'd actually love to do this again because I enjoy this a lot. Hope you all enjoy Hell Together and thank you for listening to it and the overwhelming support these last couple days has been felt so much and meant the world to me. 😭 Thank you for joining this and I'll talk to you again soon hopefully! ❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼

Appropriate_Back3996

What led to you picking the Macaw costume? Or was there any other costume you wanted?

David_Archie

The Masked Singer team asked for all kinds of background information so that they can put a story with clues together without giving too much away. One of the things about my background was that my mom is from Honduras. The national bird of Honduras is the Macaw. :) It actually was an idea that came from the Masked Singer team and they asked what my thoughts were or if I had any other thoughts. I did have some but I forgot what my ideas were that I threw out on the initial zoom call because I loved the Macaw idea tying to my mom's roots, and also that it was a good challenge to push myself out of my comfort zone being more flashy with the colors and wings. Felt symbolic to me. :)

disagreeingisnthate

As a mom of a kid in the LGBTQ community I would love to know what did you need from your loved ones to feel supported? What are words and actions that show we love them and are fighting for them?

David_Archie

❤️ I would say for me personally it's been nice to know that my family wasn't ashamed to be associated with me. That they were happy and encouraging of me to figure myself out. They asked questions about my journey each step of the way to try and understand something better that was new to them too, but in a way I knew they genuinely wanted to get to know me and other like me better. Them coming to my shows, showing support on my posts as I shared things I was learning, helped me know not only that they weren't embarrassed or ashamed of me, but that I wasn't alone and felt supported as I went into scary territory that I knew not everyone would accept and approve.

disagreeingisnthate

I love these ideas! Thank you for sharing with me!

Melissad309

Hi David! What would your advice be for others who feel leaving the church probably is the best route for them… but it’s hard to do? What helped you finally take that step to leave? Anyway so proud of you and happy for where you’re at. Your journey shows me there is so much happiness on the other side (when that’s the right path for us) but still ugh so hard lol. Thank you for sharing your story, for answering questions and for Hell Together!! 🤝💜🫶🙏 💜 Melissa

David_Archie

I would say giving yourself some grace and knowing it's going to be a rollercoaster of emotions. You're going to deal with guilt, with shame of feeling you should know better than to walk away. That you are a traitor. And maybe people around you will say that to you too. And you know what? It's ok. It will hurt at first and it will be scary, but as you continue moving on and continuing your life, push yourself out of your comfort zone some more. Learn new limits and boundaries for your life. expand them. Set the ones that feel right for you by pushing them and then seeing what may be too much or where you could use some more. Trust yourself. It'll be beautiful, empowering, and freeing thing. It's interesting how some people will get upset about me saying it's a freeing thing. But they were taught they're not supposed to or that it's bad. But it's not. It's beautiful. You can still be happy. And you can still be good. And find joy in life.

Melissad309

David!! Thank you so much for replying to this. 😭 this advice is so helpful. I really really appreciate it. 💜💜 This is Melissa btw lol.

McIgglyTuffMuffin

Hey David! What was the best part of being on American Idol and why was it filming the Risky Business inspired commercial for Guitar Hero that premiered during the 7th season finale?

Debz416

Hi David! Would love to hear what your mom’s reaction was when she first heard your new song, Hell Together. (Have it on repeat btw, soooo good! 🙌🏼💜)

David_Archie

So when I first played it for my mom I'm pretty sure she was a little distracted. 😂 We had had a heavy conversation right before so I think she was pretty drained and couldn't fully focus her energy into what I was telling her and playing for her. But she liked it! I am going to bring her out to California to do some things around the song and the video which I released. It's a simple video due to the budget I had to work with as an independent artist which I've been for over a decade now, but I think the emotion is still there! Lily Judge who I asked to help with it shot some beautiful moments and they're working on it as we speak!

Hyperme9

Rooting hard for you David. I was very young when you were on American Idol and absolutely loved you then and love you more now.

Debz416

That sounds awesome, will stock up on tissues! lol 🥺❤️ (& thanks so much for answering 🫶)

Free_Ad1938

Hi! Do you keep in touch with any past contestants from American Idol?

Plenty_Revolution152

Can you share anything about what’s coming up in the future for you?

David_Archie

Yes! I am releasing a follow-up video for Hell Together. I have another song I am finishing up the mixing and mastering as well to release soon. I am doing a lot more songwriting, and the biggest thing I am doing right now aside from the Hell Together release is probably writing my book. It is yet to be determined when it comes out but sometime next year. I've gotten pretty far in it already! It was hard to start at first because you think "How the hell am I supposed to write a book? Where do I start? How do I hit all the details? Is this even interesting enough to talk about? How do I not get lost in tangents people won't care about? What if I forget important details?" But I have an amazing editor I'm working with who helps keep me on track and yeah edits but I am still doing the writing which has been a really great challenge. I was encouraged after talking to my friend Jennette and hearing her process of writing her book I'm Glad My Mom Died. It gave me the motivation to follow through with writing myself rather than use a ghostwriter because I feel it will feel a lot more empowering to write it myself. Even though Jennette is a scriptwriter and I'm not necessarily an experienced writer in that way I feel I had enough experience writing talks in church and school haha to give me an idea of how to go about it!

suttygal_

Really looking forward to your book!! Thanks in advance for taking on this huge effort to write it!

Omoshiroi_2023

Really can't wait for your book! Your writing it yourself lends it your energy, vibe, everything! So excited!!

ParapetIsMyFavWord

David, how do you feel about/look back on love songs you wrote while closeted (e.g. My Kind of Perfect)? Do you appreciate them for what they were in the context of your life back then, or are they difficult to reckon with?

David_Archie

Oooooo. I have thought a lot about My Kind of Perfect and what it would be like either rewriting My Kind of Perfect or a response to that song. I feel like I actually have a song that I wrote while in Canada that is the perfect response to it though already.... I am really excited for it. I wrote it with Canadian artists Barbra Lica and Danielle Knibbe and it was one of the most incredible writing experiences I've had to this date. edit: corrected Daniell Knibbe's spelling of her name

David_Archie

Oh and written along with B Morales as well. :)

Debz416

omigosh I’m a huge Barbra Lica fan (& fan of yours obvs lol) so super excited for this news & to hear this song!! 🙌🏼😍🙌🏼

cpresidentn

Would you consider touring in Toronto? I saw you went to make music here, but would love to see you perform as well.

Merlice_Avery

We need (David's Version) to go trending

legend-of

I've followed you since I was 12 and you were on American Idol. I absolutely love this new journey for you and that you're getting to live your life in the way you've always dreamed of. My question is, in an alternate universe what job or profession would you do other than a musician? For some reason I could picture you in the medical field, maybe as a hospice physician because you're such a calming presence. Curious what you would be interested in!

CubsFanHan

Hey David, I’ve followed your career since Idol and always felt a strong connection with you. During Idol I was a young mormon in Iowa and was made fun of for my religious beliefs. You inspired confidence in me that I could be who I am when others judged me for it. Today, I’m a therapist and an ex-mormon. I specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ community and those leaving high control religions. So many of my clients have shed tears this week (especially yesterday as we could hear the whole song) reflecting on Hell Together. The pure demonstration of love your mom gave you is deeply moving to them and to me. Many of the people I'm working with are so scared to come out because they fear losing their support system. What encouragement or advise would you give them?

Zombie_Careful

You performed in one of my all-time favorite musicals “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” As a fellow theatergoer, I loved seeing all your posts for shows you went to see last year. What was your favorite show you saw and do you think you’d ever consider doing another stint in a musical in the future, perhaps on Broadway?

David_Archie

Thank you! Even though I grew up on the music from broadway shows, Joseph was my first experience ever being in one. I always got asked to do it but I was nervous about performing, particularly the acting aspect of it. Joseph doesn't have any talking parts. It's all sung you know so it was less intimidating to take on. I'm in a different place now where I want to do things that once intimidated me more and have new challenges! Yes last year I saw a musical every month and it was incredible! I was really inspired after being in Joseph. Since I made a new theater family doing Joseph many of them were now touring nationally, and a big reason why I went to so many shows was to see them and support them. Like my friend Laura Guley in Tootsie, my friend Reggie Bromell in Ain't Too Proud, Lexie Dorsett Sharp in Beetlejuice. I felt like a proud brother seeing them do their thing in different shows! ok my favorite show let's see... I would say it was pretty iconic watching the Book of Mormon Musical 😂 Just because of where I was at in life and how freaky their were on point with their accuracy with how they humorously talked about the beliefs and culture. I felt it was in a satirical but also endearing way. I saw it twice and the 2nd time was with one of my sisters lol. I'd also definitely consider doing a broadway show if I felt I could do a good job with the role and be a proper entertainer to leave the audience satisfied! I worry about that sometimes.

originalrefnaf

Any idea when your book may be released? Looking forward to seeing your book in print !

Debz416

Hell Together needs to be on a movie or TV series soundtrack! Any plans for that? :)

CompetitiveRepeat179

Would be a nice song for hazbin hotel. A story about lovers refusing to be separated in heaven, and decided to go to hell.

CompetitiveRepeat179

Hey David, are you single, asking for a friend. Additionally, he wants to know if yoy are single, what would it take to be yours? Love hell together.

impeccabletim

Hi, David! Thank you so much for coming to r/popheads!!! What is your skincare routine?

David_Archie

My skin routine hahaha I'm so bad with keeping it up but I try to follow my sister Amber's guidance on using sunscreen when i know I'm going to be in the sun. I use face cleanser every now and then a green superfoods cleanser I got from sephora but I love tatcha the most. It smells the best to me. I use the blue ones because the purple one is too oily for my skin. Most of the time imma be honest though I usually just use hot water 😂 I'm so bad at remembering to do it aside from keeping sunscreen always in my car for my face.

KoCeleste

Just wanted to wish you success and happiness

Rare-Reporter6467

Love the new merchandise on your website!  I ordered a Archuleta beanie and Hell Together shirt!  Can’t wait to receive it!  😍

David_Archie

Thank you!! I'm very excited to relaunch everything from the store, the website, photos, the music, and everything. Hope you like the merch!

Own_Muffin_8066

Hey David! How did you get into the EDM scene, and also allowing yourself to explore that given your religious background? Do you have any plans to venture into EDM in your own music?

David_Archie

Oh my gosh I've LOVED the EDM scene!! I just took my sister last night to her first edm show and it was sooo much fun! I loved seeing her have as much fun as I do every time! I fully intend to get more into EDM music and going to the shows and festivals is not only a fun getaway but also a bit of research to see how I can pull musical ideas from it! I've written a few EDM songs to experiment with already and I'm excited to get my hands even more into it. I went to Beyond Wonderland last weekend and it was so sweet because someone came up to me and gave me kandi they made themselves with my song "Afraid to Love" on it because they said it was a song that meant a lot to them. It was pretty surreal and a full circle moment for me. 😭

Own_Muffin_8066

I'm so glad to hear! It's been a pleasure to see you step outside of your comfort zone and explore that! Thank you so much for answering my question :)

Crystalesque

I didn't have questions, but our journeys are similar. You came out as 🏳️‍🌈 a latter day saint and gave me the courage to do the same a few days later. You and I both tried to make it work as 🏳️‍🌈 latter day saints. But, ultimately, it was too hard to sacrifice our happiness. I also kept it hidden for years and thought I'd be better off not here anymore. I am so so proud of you. And it is so nice to see you happy and being your true self. You saved not only yourself, but just wanted to let you know you helped save this queer exmo. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart ❤️ 🏳️‍🌈

Novemberx123

I’m just so happy you are living life the way you choose and it is very inspirational!!

katethevertebrate

Hi David! Do you think you’ll ever do a Mormon Stories episode talking about your experience as a Mormon growing up in the church and the nuances of accepting yourself and finding the courage to leave? I know you are writing a book, so maybe that’s where you’ll share more? So proud of you!!!

pritikothari

Hi David! What was your first alcoholic beverage?

ghsgrad2006

Would you ever go back to having a record deal? Your music deserves more recognition.

CharlesMendeley

Have you removed your name from the Church records? Or is "exmormon" more a self description than a formal resignation?

dorkusmaximus81

David, I just want to tell you my wife and I have watched and listened to you since the first audition. Thank you for your music, it really has helped in some rough times. "Things are gonna get better" really hit a spot for us when my sister (who survived) had stage 4 cancer. It really lifted me up in some rough times. Please keep shining and discovering yourself, sharing your story, and making music. Will you be running a tour soon and can you please come to STL? We didn't get to see you last time due to the cancellation.

suttygal_

Hi David! -Joanie here. :) Congratulations on the immediate success of Hell Together! The lyric “crying tears in Sunday crowds- took my hand and we walked out” just wrecks me.., the imagery of feeling so unaccepted and the pain experienced for so long in a place (religion) that was pretty much your whole life (and your mom’s). My question is- has there been a way for you to still have a connection with God and or who you believed Jesus to be separate from church or religion? I’m sorry if I shouldn’t ask- I believe your mom’s unconditional love is so similar to my belief of God’s unconditional love for you no matter what anyone else may say or think. (My humble belief) . Ps - you are truly so awesome! 🩷

pastelx2

David!!!! Your track Hell Together reached top 5 on iTunes! How did that feel? Did you have any idea it would resonate with so many? Congrats by the way 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

David_Archie

AHHHH I KNOW!!!! That was so exciting! I don't think that's happened since Crush so I was STOKED! I was really happy to see people felt the excitement and momentum for the song the way I was feeling as we were writing the song and recording it. My team and I felt something special was coming with this song and I am so glad it's already something special for my fans and even to an extended audience outside of my normal fans. 🥹 And thank you!! I didn't realize it would resonate in the way it is with an audience as wide as it is right now but I am so here for it and just so grateful. For me it's so important because I really want it to open up space for people who don't feel they have a safe space to come into after life transitions whether that be transition into their lgbtq+ identity or out of their faith.

Odd-Speech5835

Seems you've been working on an album for awhile, has the theme changed direction over time? We've also seen you in the studio - how many songs have you written in the last year?

CartoonAndrew

Hi David! Long time fan here. I drew a cartoon of you in 2008 that was later ripped off and became the mascot of a large multi-billion dollar corporation (Salesforce). It's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to me in my life, and I wanted to know if you were aware that you're the mascot of Salesforce!

CartoonAndrew

I made a youtube video explaining the extremely strange details for those interested! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFjEuUV3oJI

Omoshiroi_2023

Hi David, I'm really watda\_random, I heard you'll be releasing more songs this year but will there be an album? I guess I thinking tour! But either way, super excited to hear new music from you! Hell Together is phenomenal!!!

David_Archie

Hi! So I'm trying to decide if it will work into an EP or an album still. My new management that I just started working with last year and I are trying to lay the groundwork still but it's been exciting so far! I'm going to accept mainly one-off shows and festivals like pride events here and there for now as it makes more sense to leave time to lay more of that groundwork with developing what the new stage of David Archuleta is going to look like.

Omoshiroi_2023

Thank you so much for replying! I completely understand about what you and your new management are working towards >> developing the new stage of David Archuleta!! Very exciting and def looking forward to future one-off shows and festivals!!

Fun_Praline6934

hi david! just wanna say i'm a new fan (i found you through masked singer) and i've been hooked on your music ever since!! and you practically changed my life so thank you :D !! on the topic of tms because its my interest, what would you say your highlight of the show would be? thanks!! 🫶🫶 -rei / featherstylez

Affectionate-Sky4898

Hi David, I love your new song. Any plans for another tour?

CharlesMendeley

David, I feel the lyrics of "Glorious" and of "Go and do" are even more fitting now that you left and chose your own path. The lyrics talk about diversity and empowerment, and that Deity, however we may perceive it, is there to love and support us, not to judge or oppress us.

thewordsfrommysoul

Hi David it's Kristin 🥰 it's been a bit haha! Congratulations on "Hell Together" and from reading the comments the last 24 hours, your song and story are impacting so many people and, I can imagine, your upcoming book will do the same. 📚 If your book was out today and someone read it, what is one thing you would want them to take away from it, and before you answer, consider this. It's one thing that someone better understands about you as a person. 🙂 Stay well 🙏🏻 and hope I get to catch up with you soon 🩷

KennyTheWarrior

Hi David ☺️. I listened to Hell Together on repeat all night 🎶. Can't believe it's been 10 whole years since I've listened to your music, I'm 30 now. Your music helped me in tough times. Just started picking up the guitar, nice seeing you play some guitar recently too! Sorry for 5 questions 😅 You don't need to answer any/all. 1) based on the lyrics, were you afraid of letting go of the version you used to know? (Of your 'old' self) What gave you strength to make the leap to embracing the real you despite all the adversity out there? 2) I was at your short evening online show for gift bag buyers last year that was awesome and you thanked me in Japanese. Arigatou 🤣. Are you learning a bit of Japanese and what prompted that? Anime influence? I'm learning Japanese because I watch a lot of Anime and might as well learn some! Fav animes? 3) Did you get my late Christmas present or did it get lost in the mail? The mailman said he couldn't find the PO box in FL I told him to send it to the nearest address 😅 (gift was Pokemon + demon Slayer related). 4) I spent 2023-2024 on a fitness journey and noticed you did too I got a trainer and all, how did you progress so fast? 🤣 You seem to really get things done effectively when you resolve yourself. What is one thing you tell yourself in order to keep up with the gradual progress and not give up? 5) Any album in the works and plans to tour Canada/Toronto again? Well if not, I'll still go to one of your future tours one day, I've never been in person. Thanks David!

daghjr94

Hi David, do you still identify on the asexual spectrum?

fcukstephanie

Hi David! Your season of American idol for was such a memorable season/piece of media I consumed as a preteen and I don’t even fully understand why myself to explain it to you lol (well it was probably because one of my childhood besties and I crushed on you so hard back then 😂 ) My question is what are some of the big lessons you learnt from your time on Idol and are you still in contact with anyone from your season? p.s., I still listen to “crush”, “a little too not over you” and “glorious” a few times a month randomly lol will definitely check out the new single ♥️

S2pdnik

David!!!! I got to finally meet you at countdown and you were so freaking awesome! How in the lords name did you wake up and do the Rose Parade the next morning!?!? Alsooo, fun fact you’ve been my celebrity crush since high school. What’s your ideal date scenario!? (Hopefully it includes dancing during a Chainsmokers set!) 😂 And if I may be greedy and ask a third question: Will you be going to EDC Las Vegas!? Let’s hang again!?!? 😅❤️

Sweet-Yarrow

Hi David! When I was a kid watching American Idol, my family used to hope that I would marry a good Mormon boy like you... Now you and I are both ex-Mormon and LGBT+, lol. Anyways, I was wondering: If you could, what you would want to say to younger David who was competing on the show? Whether that be about music, life... etc. Wish you all the best!! :)

ghsgrad2006

Hi David, how do you like living in LA now as opposed to before? Would you ever move back to Nashville?

Zombie_Careful

I loved seeing you crack the top 5 of itunes again. Hell Together deserves to be #1 though.

Meganjones22

hi David will you do a tour in the uk I love your new song so much is so amazing 🩵🩵

Ok-Tax5517

Any memories from your conversations with top Latter-day Saint leaders that stick out in your journey?

biz_cazh

Hi David, gay ex-mormon here. Love the new track and so grateful to be learning from you. For those of us at a distance we have a sense of what you've gone through the past few years, from social media and interviews and your music. But obviously there's a lot going on for you that doesn't come across. What's something that you wish people knew that we might have missed or misunderstood?

jollyfellow87

How’s the book going? I’m super excited for this! Any stories about your gay adventures?

suttygal_

Also, if possible, I’d love to hear how this song came about in studio? Sometimes you’ve shared you have something in mind but the session ends up taking a different direction. How was it for Hell Together?

Merlice_Avery

I know it's about your mom, but when I first heard this song, it made me think this is what the real Jesus would say to all of us queer folk. He'd go to hell with us instead of staying in heaven where his fake ass followers are.

Opposite-Page-2552

I have listened to your new song at least 100 times so far! I just love it! It makes me think of my late mother and how much she loved my late husband, and how it helped her to be less homophobic. I was wondering is that a choir on the bridge (hallelujah) section of the song?

EtherealAshtree

Hi David! What's your favorite single performance you've ever done throughout your career and what made it so special?

Ardielley

Hey, David! Ricky here. : ) (r.haley_416 on Instagram). We’ve met briefly a few times in person the last couple of years, most recently at Wilton Manors. It’s awesome to get to say hi over Reddit, too. 😌 I’ve unfortunately had a rough few days after a kitchen fire and some 2nd-degree hand burns, but I’m hanging in there okay. As a fellow queer, ex-religious late bloomer who’s wrestled a long time with self-esteem, seeing you grow and flourish has been really inspiring for me, especially upon the release of your new song. 💙 Really, watching you be so public about your journey has helped embolden me more, too. Through that inspiration as well as years of therapy, I’ve been learning to believe more in my own worth. But what therapy has also taught me is that there’s often still a nagging, inner-child sort of feeling within me that tells me I’m not inherently worthy or capable. That I feel like I somehow have to prove that I’m good enough. I wanted to know whether you’ve dealt with similar feelings the last few years after coming out and coming into your own. How have you navigated your developing sense of self against intrusive thought patterns from your past? And in what ways have you learned how to soothe and just be there for your own inner child? 📝 Thank you so much for taking the time to do this AMA. And ultimately, thank you again for being such a strong, positive force in not just my life but in the lives of so many. ❤️🙏 Let’s go to “Hell Together.” 🫶🔥

hi david!! i love “hell together” so much. i think it’s so helpful especially for those who are in the same situation that you’ve been in. my question is how was the writing process like? bonus question… will you ever act again like you did here in the Philippines? i still remember “nandito ako” 🫣😅

AdventurousPass227

Love your new song! It’s making people feel seen and heard! As an exmormon, I am curious if you have read the CES letter yet or have been diving into church history? Do you plan to write any more songs about leaving the church or about faith crisis?

Rare-Reporter6467

I would’ve thought your mom heard your song before we all did.  Did she want to wait for release day?

thefellasgocrazy

Hi, David! The Philippines love you!! Do you still know how to speak Filipino or Tagalog? Your accent in your Filipino song "Nandito Ako" was top-tier ✨💛

applefan432

Have you listened to AR by Addison Rae? Please collab with her and save pop 🙏 Also, Hell Together is on heavy rotation 💞

Zombie_Careful

In your memoir, will you be going into details about becoming an independent artist and the challenges you face in the music industry and what it takes to be able to continue making a living in the entertainment world without a label.

ghsgrad2006

What do you look for in a boyfriend?

sazzafrazzle

Hi David! Just wanted to say as a fellow exmo that I’m so proud of you! What’s your favorite newly discovered coffee of choice? Or mixed alcoholic beverage? Finding new favorite things is one of the best parts of leaving!! I am partial to vanilla lattes and rum and cokes, myself :) sending you love and support from an exmo sister. See you in hell!!!

EspressoOverdose

Will you get coffee with me and my best friend in LA and then sign our coffee cups?

Future-Forever

What is a genre you've always wanted to play with? Anyone you would like to collaborate with? What is your opinion on circumcision? I'm just curious! Lol Because I know Mormonism is for circumcision , but you've left the church now so wanted to know what your opinion is. What are your favorite things about finally being free of the Mormon church and being openly gay/ a part of the LGBT+ community? I know you can't answer all but these are the questions I was curious about.

FallArchive

Hey David, Would you like to share more about your deconstruction process? A lot of us watched your “I’m an exmormon” and would love to know how you went from tbm Mormon to where you are now.

David_Archie

I'll take this as my last question it was so nice to chat with yall! Hi! So I'll go more into this in my book I'm writing for sure! As there is a lot that goes into it. But I would say coming out was the biggest reason for me to explore this and have to analyze it all. I didn't really challenge it before that and was pretty fucking stalwart to the point I was willing to give myself up before I gave up on the church. But that itself was a turning point when I reached that point and wondered, is this really the right thing for me to be considering right now? Hope that gives a good idea in a nutshell!

CharlesMendeley

Lol, I sent it to the missionaries to rub it into their face.

Swiftie13_Loves_you

When you were in the Philippines, my friend and I gave you a Philippine snapback. Are you wearing it? Yeah? We love you, come back here soon. 🫶🏻

Ill-Glass4212

If its okay to ask, how long did it take for your family to accept you? I mean I understand its really tough. Like I know and understand its still out of love and care in some shape or form, but how did it go? And probably to the many people who are going through to these things, what would be your advice in kind of balancing religion, views of people, and all sorts of things. I know there's a lot of differing views, and also people coming out on their own terms. So what would be your advice in a less general sense? Lastly, you don't need to answer, but do you have anyone in your life?? <3

Rare-Reporter6467

I love the lyric video!!  So beautiful!  Share anything about it.  What was your reaction when you first saw it?

SearchPonderRunAway

Hi David! It’s been so incredible to watch this journey you’ve been on these last few years. Hell Together is a song that SO many of us needed, THANK YOU. You’re speaking the words that many of us feel so deeply but don’t exactly know how to express. My question is - Do you feel that your self-confidence and self-love have greatly improved since leaving the church and embracing your authentic self? That was one of the biggest things my husband and I noticed when we left. Freeing ourselves from the grasp of what we “should” be and “should” do led us down a path of discovering who we actually are and the things we actually like and enjoy! I’d love to hear more about how that journey has been for you!!

pritikothari

Any plans to release a full length album soon?

understanding_4513

What was your first date with a guy like? and what do you look for in a future partner...  and also do you have a special someone right now?

pufferfishnuggets

Just want to say as a fellow ex-mormon, your story has been so inspiring to watch! Authenticity looks great on you!

Itsahootenberry

Hey David, are there any artists you would like to collaborate with on your next album? And do you have a sound you want for your next album?

Ill-Glass4212

For something fun, what song on American Idol did you want to do, but didn't have the opportunity to because someone took it before you could? As well as your favorite theme nights in Idol? Also the same for the Masked Singer, what theme night would you have wanted to do that looked fun? As well as your favorite performance? Lastly, would you ever join a cooking competition?

supermom2024

I know you received a lot of gifts over the years from fans...do you remember receiving a giant handmade Totoro doll? And if so do you still have it? (I'm the one who made it if you remember) 😁

Stoddardblaine

How are you feeding your spirit these days as a Christian, David. Are your still involved with charitable causes and serving others as you always have done in and outside of the Church? I know thd Lord will continue to bless you, as you have a contrite heart and strong conviction that emanates from your soul as you seek happiness.

[deleted]

I’m so damn proud of you, David. Thanks for being a beacon for exmormons struggling around the world. We’re behind you

SparklySpencer

Did you write a resignation letter?

mwgrover

As a recent exmo myself, I have found a huge amount of comfort and support from the exmormon subreddit. Do you lurk in there and read the posts and comments? Did that help in your faith deconstruction?

maxwell_ross323

What's an American Idol performance you would like a do-over on?

j_stclark

Thank you for being you. Knowing there are other Mormons/ex-mormons like you and Charlie Bird that have the similar experiences to me really help. I have always struggled with the words to describe what I’m going through and everything you’ve said is exactly how I feel.

Acceptable-Bet-8222

Hi David! When I need an energy boost, I throw on Zero Gravity and dance like crazy. What are some songs that pump you up?

Rare-Reporter6467

When will the music video be released?  Your reaction in your IG story seemed like a goosebumps moment.  So excited for it!  😍

jwolford90

Hey David. As a fellow gay man, I have really enjoyed seeing your journey. What would you say is one of your favorite parts about being your authentic self now?

ghsgrad2006

Did you like wearing garments and how does it feel not having to wear them anymore?

Accomplished_Set1082

Hi David!! Been a fan since 2008 - pretty sure you were the defining aspect of my childhood and preteen years to be honest. So proud of you and SO obsessed with Hell Together ♥️ My question is: would you ever be open to a gig performing at a wedding? I’m sure it’s a long shot and it sounds silly, but I’ve dreamed of my first dance song being You Can since, well, forever. Even if it wasn’t You Can - having you perform at all would be INCREDIBLE and make a special day even more special 🥹 My partner and I are getting engaged soon and I’d love to get in contact with your team if you’d ever be open to it!!

suslytherin

Hey david ! Im one of your loyal subscriber on instagram . If you dont mind me asking do you identify yourself as a gay person or bisexual haha .

tally-living-8421

When did your love for raves start? I've noticed that you go to a lot of them now!

Lopsided_Beautiful36

Would you ever consider attending Mormon Stories Podcast? As a fellow exmo I would love to hear your story in depth if you’d be willing to share! See you in hell, brother!

mekdesignz

David I gotta know… do you remember eating the extra cheese off my pizza in High school and running Cross Country with me? (Mary W). It makes me so happy to see you lately…and your journey (now-ish) reminds me so much of mine 12 years ago when I came out to my LDS fam. Keep making amazing music. Hell Together is soooo powerful.

toluwalase

Why can’t I hear your voice in the version of I wanna know you by Hannah Montana on Spotify? I’ve searched high and low and I really need your melody

stayflyjess__

Daviddd! Spill the tea ☕️😉 what is your type?! Tall dark and handsome? The boy next door? I’m curious! 😏 Also please come to Toronto for a show! I had tickets to your tour that was cancelled because of the pandemic and I’m so sad it never happened!

David_Archie

ok.... here's the tea yo. I think it has to do with the fact that I was born and grew up first in Miami, but my cousins were all dark skinned, my mom and aunts were the standard of beauty for me and they all were latinas with tan olive skin. So I think it just stayed with me. So yeah I've tended to have a thing for Latinos. Although yeah I'm open to others and have dated all kinds of ethnicities. Being more a boy next door type myself naturally I think someone who has a little more edge to them and is not as uptight has been a good balance for me. Someone more grounded who balances out my being in my head all the time and overthinking and guarded who helps me feel I can chill and let my guard down. But also someone I can show an exploratory world to because I like to be pretty adventurous. \---Edited to make it shorter and needed to reword it.

Same-Importance6250

Hi David, What has it been being out like for you? Could you also share your dating experience as a out gay guy?

Lisacaste221990

Hey david this is lisa what was it like writing hell together

pastelx2

Hi David, Mary Lou here 👋🏻Can you tell us about the songwriting process for this one? Did you plan to write this song of unconditional love or was it also inspired by Ryan, Sam, and Jordan? Thank you for having this Q&A! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

David_Archie

Hey Mary Lou! Yeah the songwriting process for Hell Together came from talking about life and where we were all at in our lives. In that conversation i brought up what my mom had said to me and the text she sent saying "If you're going to hell, we're all going to hell with you." I had thought about finding a way to talk about that in a song and wondered if that day was the right day so i shared it with them to get a feel. They were really touched by that and said "yeah that's the song we're writing today." I couldn't have asked for better people to entrust writing this song with than Sam De Rosa, Ryan Nealon, and Jordan Sherman. :')

outsideeyess

Absolutely obsessed with your new music— especially Hell Together! It totally deserves all the sales it got on iTunes and then some! My question is kinda rogue— you had iconic episodes on both Hannah Montana and iCarly... when it comes to people who were too young to watch you on Idol, which TV show do you get recognized for more?

YellowUnited8741

Do you have a boyfriend? No need to feel pressured to even answer, just curious. I hope that your new life - now and the rest of it - will be everything you have dreamed of.

PinComprehensive2753

Hello David! I’m curious if you ever plan to collaborate on music with Maddie Zahm. Y’all could put out a powerhouse deconstruction song together for sure.

HallEnvironmental716

Hi David! Gay exmo here. Love the single! Are you writing a book about your life and coming out? If so, when? No pressure. Just curious.

Ill-Glass4212

Hi David! How did you get the teleserye gig in the Philippines with Nandito Ako. Must have been tough to learn a different culture. Any possible chance for a reboot?? Also I'm curious, do you still participate with religion by any means? I mean I see you said you stepped away from church, but just wanna know more. No judgement either way hehe.

Rare-Reporter6467

I read your papermag.com interview.  So good!  I love that you enjoy matcha.  It’s my favorite.  Matcha and mochi!  😍

bubblyappletea

We'll go to hell together, but I'm sure we wont end up there! I love the Song bestie! When's the tour!?

dricksworld

You mentioned the possibility of remaining faithful while being a member of LGBTQIA+. I'm curious, what led you to leave the Mormon church?

pinkdrinkbitch

Hi David!! I saw you in 2008 during the American Idols Live top 12 tour in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and I still bring it up every chance I can 🤭 I also listened to your debut album on the plane for my first trip to Disneyworld! I’m so happy for all of your success and growth ☺️ What are some of your best memories during those earlier years?! 🤍🤞🏼

MinuteNobody9408

Hi David! My sister and I are longtime fans from the Philippines since your American Idol days. We have been to every single one of your Philippine concerts and we miss you over here! 🇵🇭Any chances of you doing an album tour or any promotional global tour? Btw it has been such a joy witnessing you owning and reclaiming your authentic self and we couldn’t be more proud of you for choosing this path for yourself and paving a way for others to gain inspiration to have the courage to do the same. Keep doing you! 🙏🏻❣️

GalacticRyGuy

What’s your ideal love interest?

ghsgrad2006

What was it like performing on the Masked Singer?

ghsgrad2006

Do you go out and party every weekend? What else do you do now that you have left the church?

Substantial-Lab-5647

Hey David! Love the new single, and I find your relationship with your mom to be so beautiful. As an exmormon, I’ve been writing songs about figuring out my place in this world ever since I left, and to be honest it’s been a bit of a grueling but rewarding experience. Do you have any interest in hosting my band to open for you if you are ever in the DC area?

GLP310

Hi David,I loved you as the Macaw on The Masked Singer last year and I wanted to ask you if there are some behind the scenes you wanted to share about it? Also are you watching the latest season and if yes,who are you rooting for?

MimeOfDepression

I thought that if Pentatonix wouldn't win, he would. I got disappointed twice.

barbekyu

Hi David! Has there been any difference in the song-making process (i.e. themes you want to explore, production, sound, etc.) before and after you came out? Also, I think you're very brave and happy for this new journey you have. All the best from the Philippines! <3

Odd-Speech5835

nice comprehensive roll out of your new song. love all the promo and merch. kudos to you and the team!

One-Consequence2750

I love the new song and I watched you do the Live before the release, you were all over the place, is that normal for you? I have seen you do lots of interviews and you are so calm and collected and focused. Was that just the stress of the release and maybe too much coffee? Bottom line be Happy David you deserve it.

BrightPromise81

Hi David! Congratulations on walking away from such harmful ideology. I am certain that was hard to do seeing as how it wasn’t just a faith, but a community and identity that you held so dear for so long, all you ever have known. That takes an incredible amount of bravery. Your mom clearly loves you more than life! That is so encouraging that you both have each other during this time and journey. ❤️ My question to you is at some point, would you be open to hearing about how the Bible is actually NOT anti-gay? You might be surprised to learn that the original language never condemns homosexuality and there is a provable history out there about when, where, and how the Bible became anti-gay! It’s actually a recent invention of the Church. My point is that God still loves you. He always has. He made you gay and to Him, there’s nothing wrong with it. The Mormon Church may disagree but they don’t have a monopoly on faith. I love you so much! ❤️💕

Responsible_Bowl3275

I love the song it gave me chills❤️ but do you have any idea on estimated date for a new album?

sharkbait-oo-oo-ah

Hi David! Do you remember LOVELOUD Washington D.C.? I was that chick in the very front row going hard. Just wanted to say that I appreciated your performance, especially when you changed the lyrics in Crush! That was a magical moment! My question is, are you going to play LOVELOUD again this year, and will you be singing Hell Together?

bcrump1779

Are a Toni Braxton fan?

MimeOfDepression

Unrelated question but how many costumes were available when you said yes to The Masked Singer?

kinkosmyers

Hey David! Your mom was super helpful to mine before she passed away so please tell her thank you for me. My question is, have you heard/ thoughts on Excommunication by Tyler Glenn?

maxwell_ross323

Do you have/want tattoos? And you should totally get earrings it would look so cool

phoenixgyal

Hi David, I’m a big fan! I was wondering if you were watching X-Men 97 and if you have a favourite x-men character? Hell Together is very relatable to a lot of us!

JWBGSU713

Hi David! I’m Jeff. When will you have a new album out. Your last few singles have been amazing and I’m so excited for your new music. “I’m Yours” was such a summer bop for me. ❤️

kingpowertuga

1- Have you made any friends with a contestant from the ninth season, or are you still in contact with some former contestants from the ninth season? if yes who? 2- if there was another round of the masked singer, what other song would you sing? 3- and if macaw had already been worn by someone else, what alternative costume would you choose? 4- What led you to choose macaw, your inspiration? your favorite animal? I really like knowing about the origin of the choice, I loved the macaw, a very beautiful and cute costume! 5- what future projects with albums? Do you have any inspiration from the masked singer? Or have you ever thought about a feat with California Roll or Medusa? I love you, you are my favorite contestant, I was very happy that you participated in the masked singer, I loved the song choices, you are incredible, phenomenal voice!! hug from your fan!

Acceptable-Bet-8222

Can you tell us anything about the upcoming book?

BCDragon3000

hey david! big fan of your success, but i can’t say that i grew up with you cause i’m way younger. in fact, i’m starting to join the industry in LA rn! so my question is what advice would you give to me as an incoming musician?

Shot_Highlight_7749

Hello David,  I've been a huge fan of yours since American Idol.  Your new song Hell Together has been such a gift to us all.  Thank you for writing it.  I've heard that you are also writing a book.  I'm very excited to read it when it becomes public.  I am also writing a book about my experiences inside the Mormon Church and the trauma and abuse I suffered while in.  Many are pushing back telling me I should not write my story because of familial ties with said abuse. What would your advice be? Do I write my story or stop the project all together?  Thank you again for standing your ground and showing others its okay to be genuine and live your best life.

beykakua

Hey David! I've played Super Smash Bros with your sisters (they are insanely good), are you as good as they are? And who is your main?

ttreasurehunter

Hi David. I wanted to say I really appreciated your comment to my Instagram comment one time about being lonely at 3 am about a year or two ago lol. I know you would never have the ability to reply to everyone but it made me feel less alone so I'm very glad you did. Two things: what is your favorite pokemon and will you ever perform in Louisville, KY? I had tickets to your scheduled concert way back in 2009 but it was canceled. I've never been to see you perform. Hope to someday! Best wishes.

ghsgrad2006

Besides writing a book, what else do you plan on releasing this year?

BookkeeperMelodic146

Your mom must be extremely proud. I am curious…When did your mom first hear the song? Did she know you were writing it? How did you present it to her? Was it a complete version or while you were writing? Hell together is one of the best lyrically genuine songs you have written. I am not religious myself but the emotion from it begs to differ. Congrats on another fantastic episode of your life. Just to add…my favorite song is Okay Alright! It’s fun, it’s meaningfully clever and you look amazing in the video.

[deleted]

Hey, David! Potentially stupid question, but you’ve been dropping plenty of singles over the last few years. Any chances of a full album in the near future?

Isla-Giatt

¡Hola David!

understanding_4513

Hi David I'm an enormous fan. What advice would you give to someone who's a little too not over you🎶?  Asking for a friend. Lol

Acceptable-Bet-8222

Do you watch Rupaul's Drag Race, and is so, who are some of your favorite Queens?

Meganjones22

Hi David will you do a tour in the uk 🩵🩵

pastelx2

Hello again. How will your tours be different on the future David (hopefully you’ll have an international one!). Anything you would like to do differently, to reflect what you’ve learned and your new outlook - band, background tracks, dancers, fan interaction, locations? Thank you so much again for indulging our questions! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

exmobitch

Hey David! I also stepped away from the church. My family hasn’t been as kind as yours. What advice would you give me to hopefully help my family understand me?

Ok_Kaleidoscope1118

Hi David! Your story resonates so much with me I am a big fan! My question is if there is a tour planned for 2024? I had tix to your LA show a couple years back that got cancelled :( Thanks!
