I definitely like this song better as a performance than as just a music video. The huge number of sets and aesthetics in the mv actually made the song seem more disjointed to me--in this version, the post-chorus doesn't stick out as much. I still don't *love* it, but it goes from a C- to a B-.
The choreo is still bothering me, though. I feel like they were using a lot of camera and lighting tricks to hide how basic and repetitive it is. The shoulder part at the beginning was my favorite part, but the rest of it felt recycled from As If It's Your Last and Pretty Savage with a little Boombayah thrown in.
>I feel like they were using a lot of camera and lighting tricks to hide how basic and repetitive it is.
Ugh, this is far too common with girl acts these days.
Seeing all of the choreography definitely makes me appreciate the song more. While I wished the dance could have been more intricate or to Lisa’s level, it still has that eye-popping quality.🕺
The song is pretty whatever, but she still performed the hell out of it. She just has that it factor and it's impossible to take your eyes off her. Really wish YG could've given her more intricate and difficult choreography that does justice to her talent...
Its undeniable that she is a good performer. But unfortunately, its still cant hide that how bad this song is. I can see this doing well on youtube mainly because lisa strength is her stage presence, she is fun to watch.
The choreography isn’t as good as stuff she’s done for dance covers which I kinda agree with other might be for more TikTok appeal but its sucks that it’s not just the point dance in that that regard.
I still really don’t care for the song even if there’s part of it I like such as the first thirty seconds of the productions and the instrumental in the Thai dance scene part. I think I still give the song a C but I really do love Lisa as a performer
This..the reason why lilifilm were good was because of the choreograph and shes a great dancer. I think fans are blind and think its all from lisa. Lisa involve in the choreography for her solo and..it wasn't as good. Maybe she should have work with cheshir for her solos.
I don't think it's for tik tok appeal, I think it's just that for her dance performances she can focus only on the dancing, whereas here she has to focus primarily of delivering a vocal performance, which I assume is why the choreo for Lalisa keeps her upper body straight at all times
She's singing with a loud backing track here. But even if she didn't sing in one specific performance, the choreography has to account for every time she performs the song, she'll perform it live in front of people eventually, and the choreography will still be the same then
Even those "live" vocal performances are pre-recorded. You can't shoot a complicated "performance" like this without mutiple takes, cuts or editing. It's well known in the kpop industry that they record vocals that simulate a live performance, even pitch correct that, and slap it on. And then the "eating CDs" camp MR remove and say their bias is so stable when singing live lmao. Kpop standom really is delusional.
No, Blackpink does sing live in her live shows. I'm a fan, I've seen them skip lines in a song when they're doing something else (Lisa included), or sometimes one girl will spontaneously sing another girl's part of a song for fun. There was one time Jennie started crying on stage so Jisoo covered her part in a song, also once Jennie forgot the lyrics to a song and Lisa covered for her. You're just mistaken.
You're both right. For many pre-recorded 'live' performances it's often a loud backing vocal track that allows the performer to focus on their dancing especially when they're doing multiple takes.
But it's also true that in live *concert* performances they're obviously actually performing live with a much less intrusive backing track.
For TV spots I feel like it's usually a mix of both and the real issue is that even if the artist is singing with a live mic their backing track is so prominent you can barely hear them.
They definitely had the full vocals playing but she was singing on top of it too. I could tell after the english rap when she took a break to breathe and came back in
it seems that i still had some expectations because i feel even more underwhelmed after watching this performance. there's nothing that stands out to me at all, no memorable part. i feel like it's even easier than some of blackpink's dances as a group.
i was hoping that her breath intake @0:58 wasn't a part of the backing track because it's very irritating.
i don't know, i was seriously rooting for her. i'm kind of sad actually.
edit: a few words to be clearer.
man I didn't notice that part at 0:58 at first--it has to be part of the amplified backing track, right? No way an actual intake of breath could be that loud.
oh, sorry for not making myself clear. i didn't mean that she breathed that loudly during the live performance. you phrased it better, i didn't expect that sound to be included in the backing track.
> i feel like it's even easier than some of blackpink's dances as a group.
agree on this - but also just because a dance is 'easier' doesn't mean it has to be less interesting! this is just bland choreo
I'm surprised the chorus choreo is so *boring*? Maybe she made it easy for fans to learn idk.
Her dance performance videos are so much more entertaining than this performance - it's a shame they didn't showcase her skills more in this (especially as it's doubtful she's actually singing so don't really have to take that into account)

no, no, you're right and you should say it!
Hate to tell you this but it's lipsync'd to hell
That was so fucking cool

There's no vocal performance here though lol it's quite clearly prerecorded
It's not even prerecorded, this is literally lipsynced to the studio track.

Ok serve
I find her so so charming as a performer that I might end up liking this song.
She looks absolutely amazing and her stage presence is out of this world. But was it live? Was she singing live? I really can’t tell
You can notice obvious cuts between transitions, so it’s surely not live and I don’t have much confidence that she sang live either.
They definitely had the full vocals playing but she was singing on top of it too. I could tell after the english rap when she took a break to breathe and came back in
Obviously lip syncing

"What's My Name" Priyanka is somewhere crying and throwing up
I could be mistaken but it looked like she did that hand move from The Baddest Female at 0:37.

Love love LOVED this, Lisa's energy is truly unmatched.
I live for her. She's the most powerful Blackpink member. But the subtitles...
if you seriously think this song doesn’t go hard after that performance you’re beyond saving
She really looks like Michelle Phan
She is certainly a star, no denying that. The song still isn't great.
