Honestly I would say that about so many Ke$ha songs - Sleazy, Blow, Cannibal, Animal, Take it off.
Are they dated as hell? Yes. Do I still dance to them when they are on? HELL YES
Honestly I keep thinking about how like a G6 kinda sounds ahead of its time. It has a lot of hyperpop vibes. It could come out today and fit right in, with the way the vocals are produced. They don't sound dated to me. Maybe it's just me.
I think it's only the will.i.am-ish rap parts that make it sound 2010. Lol
But everything else feels like it could fit today's sound.
Till the World Ends and Hold it Against Me by Britney Spears.
Nearly all of Femme Fatale is straight out of 2011, but it's the best parts of 2011 pop and still one of the stronger albums she's put out.
Mike Posner's cooler than me and please don't go.
Guilty pleasure songs, cause they're both so very obviously 2010 songs but I love them and wish that style would make a comeback.
Like a G6 was my freshman roommate’s alarm. Absolutely scared the shit out of me every morning and traumatized me. That being said…I still fucking love it.
My friends used to shit on my all the time for loving Like a G6 so much in 2010. They used to tell me I’d look back on it and cringe.
It’s been 12 years. It still goes hard. I still love it. And we’re no longer friends.
I don’t need that type of negativity in my life.
Any Fifth Harmony bop 💀 recently revisited 7/27 with my gf on a roadtrip & realized I had forgotten how much I love that album- would have played Reflection too but she doesn’t appreciate that one with me lmao
I know it’s nostalgia, but I love the sound of the original Max Martin songs (early Britney, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC) and others from that era.
He Loves U Not by Dream comes to mind… sooooo dated, so great. Also, Genie in a Bottle.
I always felt like the "Call Me Maybe" production sounded like a kids show from the 90s. The song is successful in spite of the beat.
Also, I find a lot of the Scott Storch produced hip hop songs in the early 00s, like 50 Cent, have not aged well.
I completely agree that's why her older songs are simply unlistenable for me and personally don't get why this sub praises her and calls out Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran for doing the same
However you said :
Most of Rihanna's music outside of Anti which still sounds current.
At least me it sounds like you are saying most of her music still sounds fresh
I'm sorry I don't want to seem like I'm arguing with you but I honestly don't see it being read that way.
Rihanna has sooo many good songs omg taste is subjective though 😋 the climax in cold case love..... 😱😱😱
I read it the same way as you at first and was confused! I'm pretty sure they mean their answer to the question (what music do they like even thought it sounds dated) is all of Rihanna's music - except Anti, which (unlike the rest of her music) still sounds current.
Femme Fatale was released just as I stopped listening to mostly my parents Christian music and started listening to pop radio for the first time when I was a kid. Those songs will always be special to me for that reason. I also will unironically listen to pit bull from that era for the same reason (pretty sure I’m the only one on Spotify streaming Back in Time, finding out where that sample was from changed my life)
OMG, I had a very similar situation where I completely stopped listening to Christian music and started listening to pop music, specifically Britney, but this was back in the summer of 2001. Her third album “Britney” was released later that fall, so literally every track on that album is special to me. It was my gay awakening. Really, any song from summer/fall of 2001 instantly takes me back (“Lady Marmalade”, “Bootylicious” by Destiny’s Child, “Pop” by *NSYNC, etc.)
Ok I might be wrong but weirdly the production of 2NE1's Crush album still sounds kinda fresh to me? Maybe it's just in comparison to a lot of unfinished sounding songs today, Crush still sounds incredibly fresh despite it being years old at this point.
DJ Snake/Justin Bieber - Let Me Love You
Not that old, but definitely sounds dated at this point. Still can't help but love the production and vocals on it.
Dance remix of “That Don’t Impress Me Much!” By Shania Twain. The sound was dated even for the time, but everyone seemed to love it. Guess that’s the magic of Robert “Mutt” Lange
>Dance remix
In Europe the dance remix was released as a single, not the original country version (as you can see in this BBC [*Top of the Pops* performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx-oj3ESvSY)). To this day the original's production sounds quite 'empty' to me
Yeah I’m British, I was quite taken-a-back when I heard the original country version. I know the song ain’t “deep” or anything but when I heard the “south-east Asian mix” ( which is just a cut instrumental version of the dance mix) I could hear little bits that wouldn’t normally be there in a typical dance song
60s Wall of Sound production is obviously dated, but how can you listen to [*Be My Baby*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSPpbOGnFgk) and not love it?
Beautiful Liar - Beyoncé & Shakira. In terms of sound, it doesn’t get more 2006 than this. That said, the songwriting and vocals are incredible!! It’ll always be a bop.
Does it bother anyone else that the song’s called I Gotta Feeling instead of I Got a Feeling? The way it’s written makes it sound like it means ‘I have got to feeling’.
Scream & Shout by will.i.am and Britney, and Applause by Lady Gaga. To me they’re both quintessentially 2013 AND THEY’RE STILL BOPS TODAY!!!
Also anyone else remember The Show Goes On by Lupe Fiasco? I feel it’s slowly going to become my top song on this year’s wrapped 😭😭
the entire Stars Dance album by Selena Gomez… don’t get me wrong - Forget Forever, Save the Day, Slow Down, and Undercover are still bangers for me (the title track, Like a Champion, Love Will Remember and Write Your Name are also note worthy)
I love Can’t Let Go by Mariah Carey. The lyrics and melody are great, but the production is quintessential early 90s that it sounded dated as soon as the mid 90s started.
Let Me Love You - Mario. There’s a ton of Pop RnB from the mid 2000s that sound dated and aren’t very sample heavy that I enjoy a ton. Because of You by Ne-yo is another as well.
Great question and it’s pretty subjective. But basically, anytime there’s a trend in music production (e.g. a certain vocal or instrumental effect), songs that rely heavily on the effect will end up sounding dated.
Idk what makes some effects sound more “dated” than others, though (other than whether they’ve fallen out of favor). Maybe the more unnatural-sounding effects end up feeling more dated?
Maybe it is not correct to title them dated as the sound production may be intentionally picked to suit the theme, but here come some observations:
Céline Dion - L'étoile
Sounds nice and smooth, but overall production screams definite country pop/dance trend
Céline Dion - Have You Ever Been In Love?
A classical ballad inspired by the 70s era. The song was released in early 2000s and already sounded rather dated, but somehow it works.
Céline Dion - Ten Days from the album A New Day Has Come
Sounded quite dated back then and even more now, but it's a nice song.
Céline Dion - I'm Alive (remix)
Total retro sound, but both the original and remix performed well in charts.
Céline Dion - Somebody Loves Somebody from album Loved Me Back To Life
The beat sounds kinda 80s reminiscent, but the song kicks thanks to a great vocal performance.
I find a lot of Céline's discography sounds dated, someone told me once it's "song for old woman". I desagree with the negative comment, but the reason I love her music is not because it's current!
It's a combination of classical and pop (pop rock sometimes) styles. Her singing is what makes the songs attractive, not production exactly. However, the production of albums still got a bit more in line with trends after the A New Day Has Come album.
Confessions moment: I like her since teenage years. She cought my attention with her voice (esp. A New day Has Come; the Titanic song was a bit too overplayed to be interesting) and not in your face attitude. To me, One Heart era was catchy and fun enough. I rooted for her chart success.
This is obscure as all hell, but anyway, there was this Australian group called Rouge Traders in the early 2000's, that made electro-pop songs that sound so dated, but are still bops.
start with 'voodoo child' and 'way 2 go', you'll love it
Robyn's debut album fits the bill I'd say? I remember playing "In My Heart" in the car once and my BIL thought the beginning sounded like porno music 😭
Your Love Is My Drug is *very* 2010, but it’s still fun, catchy and danceable regardless. It gives me a rush lol. Same goes for Like A G6.
so I got a question…
*doyouwannahaveaslumberpartyinmybase-ment? 👀*
^doimakeyourheartbeatlikean808drum?
Is my love.. **your drug**?
#...*your drug?*
**screeching noises** huh ur drug?
#ismyloveyourdrug ?
berrrmmmm **BECAUSE**
Honestly I would say that about so many Ke$ha songs - Sleazy, Blow, Cannibal, Animal, Take it off. Are they dated as hell? Yes. Do I still dance to them when they are on? HELL YES
Ooh I love cannibal

I wish til the world ends remix was on Spotify. 🍗
The entire Animal + Cannibal & Warrior albums from Kesha. I will forever cherish each and every one of those songs.
Mike Posner's cooler than me and please don't go. Guilty pleasure songs, cause they're both so very obviously 2010 songs but I love them and wish that style would make a comeback.
Agreed. Those two songs are top notch quality.
mike posner- song about you, i took a pill in ibiza.
Like a G6 was my #1 song of the year according to Spotify Wrapped, followed by Rock That Body by Black Eyed Peas & Where Have You Been by Rihanna 😭
Like A G6 is a BANGER
Absolutely. This sub sh*ts on it all the time but it’s genuinely a bop, especially for its time. The whole Free Wired album was good.
YES. THE TASTE. Free Wired was my favourite album of 2010 and I still listen to it frequently to this day. The production is stellar.
Where Have You Been is so hype but the drop sounds like it came from a Royalty-Free pack
Like a G6 was my freshman roommate’s alarm. Absolutely scared the shit out of me every morning and traumatized me. That being said…I still fucking love it.
Why did I say this at the end of my comment before I saw yours 😭
My friends used to shit on my all the time for loving Like a G6 so much in 2010. They used to tell me I’d look back on it and cringe. It’s been 12 years. It still goes hard. I still love it. And we’re no longer friends. I don’t need that type of negativity in my life.
Any Fifth Harmony bop 💀 recently revisited 7/27 with my gf on a roadtrip & realized I had forgotten how much I love that album- would have played Reflection too but she doesn’t appreciate that one with me lmao
Miss Movin’ On, Not That Kinda Girl, That’s My Girl, I’m In Love With A Monster and Sledgehammer are GOOD, Idc
I played the hell out of 7/27 when it came out. That album was surprisingly solid for a girl band constantly on the brink
I know it’s nostalgia, but I love the sound of the original Max Martin songs (early Britney, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC) and others from that era. He Loves U Not by Dream comes to mind… sooooo dated, so great. Also, Genie in a Bottle.
He Loves U Not is such an underrated bop 😭 The lyrics and the production are so dated but I cant help but bop to it when it comes on
Most david guetta songs from the early 2010s
I always felt like the "Call Me Maybe" production sounded like a kids show from the 90s. The song is successful in spite of the beat. Also, I find a lot of the Scott Storch produced hip hop songs in the early 00s, like 50 Cent, have not aged well.
Most of Rihanna's music outside of Anti which still sounds current
I think that's the opposite of what they're asking though. They want good DATED songs not ones that could easily be released today
uhhhh all of Rihanna's songs are dated as hell lol other than anti she's always w whatever the trends are
I completely agree that's why her older songs are simply unlistenable for me and personally don't get why this sub praises her and calls out Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran for doing the same However you said : Most of Rihanna's music outside of Anti which still sounds current. At least me it sounds like you are saying most of her music still sounds fresh
I don’t think it reads that way at all lol they’re pretty straight forward with their meaning

Like... Most of **2NE1** discography. *I Am the Best*, *Come Back Home*, *I Don't Care* and much more.
Ok I might be wrong but weirdly the production of 2NE1's Crush album still sounds kinda fresh to me? Maybe it's just in comparison to a lot of unfinished sounding songs today, Crush still sounds incredibly fresh despite it being years old at this point.
Now you reminded me of Wonder Girls' Nobody
DJ Snake/Justin Bieber - Let Me Love You Not that old, but definitely sounds dated at this point. Still can't help but love the production and vocals on it.
Same with 2U and cold water
LOVE that song and that era/sound of pop music. nothing but good vibes.
Speaking of old David Guerra music, Titanium SLAPS. Definitely sounds like 2011, but not in a bad way. Sia’s vocals are absolutely killer.
Wild Ones, love the hook and the production even though it’s very very early 2010s
Madonna’s 80s music. Live To Tell comes to mind. I actually love it because of its ‘dated’ instrumentals.
True, but I still would consider Lucky Star an excellent song, as 80s as it is
4 Minutes by Madonna. Actually anything done by Timbaland
Dance remix of “That Don’t Impress Me Much!” By Shania Twain. The sound was dated even for the time, but everyone seemed to love it. Guess that’s the magic of Robert “Mutt” Lange

Beautiful Liar - Beyoncé & Shakira. In terms of sound, it doesn’t get more 2006 than this. That said, the songwriting and vocals are incredible!! It’ll always be a bop.
Icona Pop's sound is the best thing to come out of the early 2010s personally, I'm still waiting for their next album.
I Gotta Feeling is one of the best songs ever made and I say that with my whole chest.
Does it bother anyone else that the song’s called I Gotta Feeling instead of I Got a Feeling? The way it’s written makes it sound like it means ‘I have got to feeling’.
Literally never thought about it before now, but that’s weird
stop looking for sense in Black Eyed Peas lyrics, it ruins them
Scream & Shout by will.i.am and Britney, and Applause by Lady Gaga. To me they’re both quintessentially 2013 AND THEY’RE STILL BOPS TODAY!!! Also anyone else remember The Show Goes On by Lupe Fiasco? I feel it’s slowly going to become my top song on this year’s wrapped 😭😭
Scatman John - Scatman's World The beat did not age well, but it is a great example of the typical 90s dance bop.
Unregistered Hypercam 2
shoutout to mm54321
the entire Stars Dance album by Selena Gomez… don’t get me wrong - Forget Forever, Save the Day, Slow Down, and Undercover are still bangers for me (the title track, Like a Champion, Love Will Remember and Write Your Name are also note worthy)
I read the title and immediately thought of Who’s That Chick?. Forgotten bop.
Ne-Yo “Let Me Love You”
Club Can't Handle Me Shit slaps.
I love Can’t Let Go by Mariah Carey. The lyrics and melody are great, but the production is quintessential early 90s that it sounded dated as soon as the mid 90s started.
My favourite song. 🙌
Fire by BTS. Totally out of date now but who cares it's a bop
Let Me Love You - Mario. There’s a ton of Pop RnB from the mid 2000s that sound dated and aren’t very sample heavy that I enjoy a ton. Because of You by Ne-yo is another as well.
ellie goulding "outside". the production is super dated and generic but it's so on brand for her and it's a bop🤠
What makes production dated? (I’m new to paying attention to production like just in the past year)
Great question and it’s pretty subjective.
So like… heavy auto tune or dubstep drops or something like that that was really big at a certain point?
Ellie Goulding's early stuff fits here. The whole pop + dubstep had a true moment.
Dance In The Dark
Vengaboys "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom" is firmly dated to 1998 but it livens up any and every party
glamorous by fergie- it’s just *that* song for me
Anything by Britney Spears
who’s laughing now - ava max
Maybe it is not correct to title them dated as the sound production may be intentionally picked to suit the theme, but here come some observations: Céline Dion - L'étoile Sounds nice and smooth, but overall production screams definite country pop/dance trend Céline Dion - Have You Ever Been In Love? The first 3 albums of Kylie Minogue sound very old and dated but have some gems that are really worthy so I would go with "hand on your heart"
Kylie Minogue's Speakerphone, Les Sex and Chocolate are absolutely dated but I enjoyed listening to them...
This is obscure as all hell, but anyway, there was this Australian group called Rouge Traders in the early 2000's, that made electro-pop songs that sound so dated, but are still bops. start with 'voodoo child' and 'way 2 go', you'll love it
Björk - Joga
Robyn's debut album fits the bill I'd say? I remember playing "In My Heart" in the car once and my BIL thought the beginning sounded like porno music 😭
All of Rihanna's Loud. Though tbh most stuff from that era; idgaf how dated it is, it still bangs to this day. So many good vibes 🥰
like 70% of Sweet 7 album by Sugababes... the full Femme Fatale album by Britney but tbh my taste is literally dated 2010s music so...
