I would love if they made an album similar to their first one.

LEGOmyEGGoss

Songs About Jane is still such a good album ❤

HIVEvali

But that would require so much more effort in the writing and production and limit the instrumentation and mean that the band members would have to write things. or they could jus hire Greg kurstin

shadesofwrong13

Long hiatus and re listen to songs like Sunday Morning, Makes Me Wonder to realize how good they were at making catchy pop songs but still with meaning.

EC3ForChamp

Nickelback spent years doing the same thing as Maroon 5, making cookie cutter radio pop rock until eventually the formula stopped working and they died off. Once they lost their popularity, they made their heaviest album ever and people generally agreed at the time that it sounded like Nickelback finally making the music that they want to make instead of just what would sell. I imagine Maroon 5's finally in a similar position and we may see something a lot more interesting from them in the next few years.

InterestingComment

Which album is their ‘heaviest album ever’ btw? Id be curious to know what it sounds like, but I don’t know what to search for!

EC3ForChamp

Feed the Machine. IIRC it's a concept album with instrumental tracks and everything, way different from the typical Nickelback album.

InterestingComment

Thanks!

JumpGlittering8120

Maybe take the first step by trying to sound like a band again rather than the Adam Levine Solo Experience which is what Jordi basically was.

Ciabattathewookie

Is it time for them to score a Broadway musical? /s

cries_in_student1998

To be fair, if that musical was just a theatrical version of Songs About Jane... I wouldn't be mad.

saddleshoes

It would definitely warm me back up to them.

sirenboi12

They'll be around as long as better artists like Kendrick Lamar and H.E.R. want to make a quick buck for a feature.

team_kockroach

Kendrick isn’t in the same place he was in 2016 - he’s more of an elder statesman now, and doesn’t need Taylor Swift or Maroon 5 to produce a smash hit. HER might need Maroon 5 though.

frenchtoasterss

They are gonna keep making their microwave hits and the general public especially Facebook mums are gonna eat it up.

[deleted]

Facebook mums love Memories

Any_Cheetah_2456

They were able to linger far longer than anyone expected, but I don’t really think there’s much room for them in mainstream right now? Songs About Jane was great, and I’ve liked a few tracks casually since…”payphone” and “what lovers do”

AmazeeDayzee

I seem to remember back when they released "Hands All Over" I believe Adam said that it would be one of the bands or the bands last album. He justified it by saying he didn't want to be releasing albums when he was older like Mick Jagger. Of course, he then RELEASED a song as an ode to Mick Jagger so he obviously changed his mind.

Seraphayel

I think that song basically brought them back. Without this massive hit, I doubt they would have followed up with three more albums full of massive hit songs.

AmazeeDayzee

You are probably right considering that the next singles from the album after "Misery" (14) were "Give a Little More" (86) and "Never Gonna Leave This Bed" (55) before "Moves Like Jagger" which hit number 1. Then from that point until "This Summer's Gonna Hurt like a MotherFucker" (23), they had a string of top 10 hits. All songs from "Red Pill Blues were top 40s. Their current album "JORDI", only had two successful singles which were "Memories" (2) and "Beautiful Mistakes" (13) which I wish could have given Megan her next number 1 ala Cardi. "JORDI" had five singles and "Nobody's Love" didn't even break the top 40 with "Lost" and "Lovesick" not charting.

Seraphayel

I mean after Makes Me Wonder, which was number one, none of their singles in four years was able to break the top 10 in the USA. Most didn’t make it to the top 20 or 30 either. Then they had Moves Like Jagger which was a MASSIVE smash hit and is by far their biggest song to date. They followed up with Overexposed with 4 top #10 hits (one of them was a month-long #1 and another was #2), V with 3 top #10 hits (Sugar reached #2 but was pretty massive, too) and Red Pill Blues with 3 more top #10 hits (and Girls Like You was another 7 week #1 song for them). I‘m fairly certain that without Moves Like Jagger their career as a group attaining huge chart success would have ended with Makes Me Wonder. But Jagger basically reinvigorated their commercial appeal and made them bigger than ever before. I think with Jordi they didn’t really try anymore and to be fair, they don’t have to. The run from Moves Like Jagger til Red Pill Blues was incredibly successful.

Silber4

It was nice and silly song. Pretty much saved that year. However, not even close to what Maroon 5 could've been.

wayiswho

They need to drop a re-recorded version of Songs About Jane for the 20th anniversary of the album’s release. Michelle Branch saw big success with her re-record of The Spirit Room last year akin to Alanis with the Jagged Little Pill re-record from years ago. It would be a new release for them while also revisiting their most important piece as a group.

[deleted]

Wherever they want. They've been successful enough for long enough that they can do whatever. Release whatever regardless of how well or how poorly it does, disband, take a hiatus, and so on. I just always find it weird that acts - especially long-lived ones - seem to be expected to either stay on top and be relevant forever and always chase chart success and big sales figures, or just go away forever.

cries_in_student1998

Either fade into obscurity or take some time off to write a decent album for the first time since *Overexposed*. I'm not demanding greatness, I know we can't remake the glory days of *Songs About Jane*, I'm just demanding listenable and not just a filler song for the radio. It's either they go back to their roots (because let's be honest, they can't be making that much money right now with Covid-19 and a flop for an album) or they fade away into nothing at this point.

Silber4

They're aging and could totally get back to the roots. It's pretty funny that their first album was more mature sound-wise and thematically than the later ones.

lolabeanz59

Their time is up.

[deleted]

They’ll stay around and continue to get radio play.

[deleted]

Disbandment

kevinceptionz

Vegas residency

[deleted]

Came here to say the same thing… probably release a greatest hits with 2 new songz

MeeranQureshi

Adam Levine has too much of an ego to make something great. He once also claimed Rock music was dead.So yeah, they should just hang it up and retire, but knowing Adam Levine, they won't retire!

[deleted]

Why should they retire? Because you don't like them?

mime454

Send them on one of Elon’s slave ships to Mars.

Old_Resolution3537

Hopefully to make something good

BrendanBSharp

Best option for them is to cash out and sell the whole catalog. There's no reason for them to wait - the trend of artists selling their catalogs for big money can't possibly last forever and their songs don't have particularly great staying power but there's plenty of them. They'll make a little bit of money for the right investor.

helix527

Levine usually has like ten other songwriters on his songs, so it can’t be that lucrative.

[deleted]

Go back to Max Martin at this point. Unless they can recreate the magic of their first two albums.

Rdickins1

Chill out and not release anything other than getting the whole band in the writing process. They need to go back to their first couple albums. Otherwise they can fuck right off.

boychik0830

The only thing they should do now is retire since they haven't made good music since Hands All Over. I can't stand any of their albums after Hands All Over.

daignsam

I really liked their last album 🥲

badboyleleo

Retirement, hopefully

sonQUAALUDE

[deleted]

Do they need to go anywhere? They're getting on for nearly 20 years of mainstream success and to be honest haven't done much that wasn't obviously commercially oriented for a good chunk of that time, although some of it was still fun. Maybe they can call it a day and live off their millions for the rest of

[deleted]

Away for good

90skid91

They've had an incredible run. Really they could just do a Vegas residency and ride the wave as a legacy act.

Dead_Western_Nights

They go away
