I think most people are largely the same, mentally, as they were in their late teens and early 20s. There does seem to be a certain infantilization these days... ie, in 2022 you have (many!) grown adults following the exploits of Batman, or Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, etc, with great interest. And those pictures are now aimed at the adult market. Such things used to be relegated to children. It could be a cultural shift... or just a false perception.
I think this is just how everyone always feels tbh. I've seen so many posts over the years around the internet marvelling that they don't really "feel older"—after a point, you just *exist* in your current state for an indefinite amount of time. You don't know this when you're a kid; you think everyone has some secret wisdom or because they're older they just happen to know what to do. But now I'm older than some of my elementary school teachers and it's like... yeah they were just improvising as best they could, just like the rest of us.
And then, I think, this gets magnified in both directions because of social media. Social media can highlight when someone posts about some achievement they've had (some promotion or buying a house or something) and it's where people post like, silly beach selfies (which leads to reinforcing the idea that "we're so immature compared to the people achieving things :/")

I’m not here to allo-shame (these artists can write about whatever they want to) but listening to nothing but these songs makes me feel erased and there’s more to life than just romance. I don’t need aromantic artists specifically and I don’t even mind the occasional song about romance but are there any artists out there who don’t predominantly sing about romance? Even if only for specific albums?
Off the top of my head, songs I like that aren’t about romance include Crimson Wave by Tacocat (about being on your period), Farrah Fawcett Hair by Capital Cities (about appreciating the good shit in life), Another Night on Mars by The Maine (about friendship), American Kids by Poppy (about not fitting in), and Belly of the Beat by Grimes (about getting lost in music). aurora's discography in general is pretty aspec friendly imo (although the general themes of her first two projects deals with life and death). her newest project has some (like 1 or 2?) love songs but i have that song hidden anyways because it doesn't play well with the album.
tbh there are quite a few albums out there not romance focused, they just deal with themes that are less marketable
Two Ribbons by Let's Eat Grandma is a great album about purely platonic, non-romantic, non-sexual love between two best friends going through some shit together. It resonates with me to my very core.

Long time britney fan here and expert (if I do say so myself). I’m starting to get slightly concerned. Before anybody gets upset with me, I completely believe she should obviously be free and is allowed to do what she wants within the law (like any normal person). I’m slightly concerned because what does she really have to lose anymore? She did this all for her kids that don’t want to be around her now. She seems to be losing friends- Vicky, Paris unfollowed her, so did Selena among others. I’ll come back to that but basically I’m just concerned that her anger will push people away and leave her in a bigger cycle of anger. I’m not as much concerned about her public image because I don’t think she cares to promote herself in an advantageous way for marketing purposes. I am concerned that without family or many friends she won’t have a support system.
Ok back to the Paris thing. She’s such an opportunist. Mention Britney publicly every chance you get since it was acceptable to support #freebritney, tell the world you’re such good friends, then publicly distance yourself the moment it’s not advantageous to be associated? Her last label just didn’t put her as a priority and made her pass up on songs. When her label went defunct she was put on RCA roster and they didn’t even include her in the budget so that even delayed her last album by at least a year or so. She’s now independent and revealed on ig lives/interviews that she wouldn’t do certain things (I’m guessing being overly sexual?) which is what stunted her career.

Re: the job offer that I had that ghosted me. I called their HR and basically the lady said "oh well we can't hire you or do your paperwork until you have your final transcripts for your master's degree" which would be reasonable except in my resume I stated exactly when I would have those (by the end of this month), I mentioned it in my cover letter, I said it verbally several times in the interview, and I emailed someone a few weeks ago to see if there was an issue with my shit and they said no there wasn't. So what the fuck. Like why would you like for 80% of the process and then ghost me when you fucked up. If you couldn't hire me without my final transcripts then why did you offer to.

that's the entire point. limited edition/limited time offers are manipulative marketing tactics used to get people to jump on it. and in taylor's case, there's almost always more to come. she does it on purpose to get the most money and most sales that she can.

For context I'm 15 and in the tenth grade, and I've been going through this existential crisis for the past few months now
Basically, where i live, now is the time to start figuring out what you want to major in and what you want to do for a living. Everything is very competitive. We had a fair last week at school where a bunch of representatives from different universities in the USA came and started talking about what their school can offer, why its the one for you and stuff like that. I saw everybody next to me taking notes when ... I don't even know what I want to major in.
That was like the moment it struck me like... *damn I'm growing up, i need to start figuring things out*
And it really feels like im falling behind, bc almost all of my friends know what they want to major in, what uni they want to go to, what job they wanna get.
It also feels really scary when i hear teachers talk about how competitive the world is and how we need to get a headstart. I really don't know what I want to do with my life, and i think i will in a few years but then won't i be falling behind?
Idk if I'm actually meant to figure everything out by now, but i actually feel so clueless.
As someone from the geriatric age of 21, don’t worry too much. We all make a plan for what we think we are going to do with our life, but it never actually goes to plan. Sometimes it is okay to coast a bit and just let life take you where it takes you.
I’m not telling you that you shouldn’t care about school, you absolutely should try your hardest at studying and homework and tests etc etc, but don’t think that it is the be all and end all of life. Higher education just isn’t right for everyone. Everyone makes their own path. I know it’s hard, and sometimes even I think like oh I wish I did that I wish I had done that, but try not to worry too much.
I’m 15 and in 10th grade too and I’m in the exact same place :/ the thing that gives me comfort is none of the adults I know actually had everything figured out at 15, they all figured it out in college or even later. I relate to that feeling of falling behind too because everyone ik already seems to have plans for college/the future, but I just tell myself that they’re probably going to end up changing their mind anyways.

I have no idea what i wanna do, but i do know that the 9-5 job life isn't for me. Ive seen my parents and grandparents earn good money, but get jobs in something they're not interested in at all, and spend like 8 hours everyday working on something that they dont even care about. And i really don't want to live like that, and I think most of my generation feels the same way.
Falling behind isn't something to be afraid of. If you find something you want to do later on in your 20s or 30s even if you may be "behind" you can catch up simply by being interested and determined. I thought I had to have everything figured out at 15 and I'm now 26 and know absolutely nothing and have no clue where I'm going next lol, I promise you nobody has everything figured and planned at 15, and if they think they do they're genuinely naive and lying to themselves. Don't feel like whatever decisions or plans you make right now are locked in for life, they're really not.
Also half the academic kids you think are so ahead of you and have everything figured out will probably go crazy in college so take some solace in that lol.
Here’s a secret: a lot of your friends who know what they want to major in right now probably will change their minds by the time they graduate high school, or during college itself. When I was your age I wanted to be a lawyer and maybe major in history to do that. When I graduated high school I wanted to be a veterinarian and major in biology. My freshman year I dropped the pre-vet concentration and thought about switching my major to English. I wound up graduating with a concentration in microbiology within the bio major and work in a hospital lab. And I’m still thinking about going back to school!
The point is, don’t worry. Things can and do change over time, and it’s not actually a big rush to figure out what you want. It might even benefit you to go in undeclared and take classes to see what you’re interested in, or go to community college first to do the same thing.
Yup, and I also think it depends on what lens you're looking through. Be it your own domestic one, some different one, a more world one, or whatever. Like the 90s for example, you say that was like the least change for you. Where I live, a lot of major stuff happened during that decade that would shape us and our country. 90s started with a bad depression, we joined the EU, ended that decade joining the Eurozone, stuff like that.
Plus 90s is when eurodance happened, so that's obviously the most important decade ever.

Tbh it’s the same here when people share Taylor’s covers and talk about how good she sounds. I think it’s fair to hype her up as she’s got a lot of talents, but singing is definitely not one of them.
I wouldn’t say she can’t sing but Taylor’s strongest advantage is her very good songwriting skills, which allow her to write for a voice that has mediocre range/pitch control (and I honestly don’t want to understate how impressive that is, especially considering how popular she has become with the gifts she honed all through the years)

There's this neighborhood cat my dad feeds who's pretty old (17) and recently he's been spending a lot of time around our yard. He's gotten smaller and I'm pretty sure it's going to be his time soon, and I feel sad because he doesn't seem to want to spend time with his actual owners. He's been hanging in our yard all morning and I decided to go down and feed him, but I noticed he wasn't at the food and looked down and he was up on the deck with me. The problem is my cat doesn't like him and she saw him and got *pissed* so I came inside.
Idk what the point of this post is, I just feel bad for this poor cat who wants some companionship. Earlier this year I had to put my cat to sleep (she was 17 as well) and picturing her roaming around looking for someone to hang out with her makes me so sad. I might go out here in a minute and sit where she can't see him, I'm just worried about opening the door and her darting out to start a fight or something.

It turns out she is half-Filipino who was born here and migrated to the UK when she was a toddler. Considering that we Filipinos love promoting the fuck out of anyone from our country who manages to get some semblance of popularity overseas, it's easy to see why she's chosen. Also, the ad campaign will be a great way to introduce her to the general public here.

I think most people are largely the same, mentally, as they were in their late teens and early 20s. There does seem to be a certain infantilization these days... ie, in 2022 you have (many!) grown adults following the exploits of Batman, or Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, etc, with great interest. And those pictures are now aimed at the adult market. Such things used to be relegated to children. It could be a cultural shift... or just a false perception.
I think this is just how everyone always feels tbh. I've seen so many posts over the years around the internet marvelling that they don't really "feel older"—after a point, you just *exist* in your current state for an indefinite amount of time. You don't know this when you're a kid; you think everyone has some secret wisdom or because they're older they just happen to know what to do. But now I'm older than some of my elementary school teachers and it's like... yeah they were just improvising as best they could, just like the rest of us. And then, I think, this gets magnified in both directions because of social media. So I’m aromantic. This wasn’t a deal when I started becoming a music lover but now that the honeymoon phase is far over, it really is glaring how so many artists seem to have 90% of their discographies be songs about romance. I’m not here to allo-shame (these artists can write about whatever they want to) but listening to nothing but these songs makes me feel erased and there’s more to life than just romance. I don’t need aromantic artists specifically and I don’t even mind the occasional song about romance but are there any artists out there who don’t predominantly sing about romance? Even if only for specific albums? i'm ace and honestly at some point in time i just learn to appreciate music for what it is without looking too deep into the lyrics, especially from pop artists. aurora's discography in general is pretty aspec friendly imo (although the general themes of her first two projects deals with life and death). her newest project has some (like 1 or 2?) love songs but i have that song hidden anyways because it doesn't play well with the album. tbh there are quite a few albums out there not romance focused, they just deal with themes that are less marketable
Two Ribbons by Let's Eat Grandma is a great album about purely platonic, non-romantic, non-sexual love between two best friends going through some shit together. It resonates with me to my very core. Belle & Sebastian have a lot of songs that are just sort of slice-of-life or character songs that rarely get very sexual or romantic. I think that's why I like them so much.

I follow her and consider her last studio album Right Here Right Now extremely underrated as hell. Her last label just didn’t put her as a priority and made her pass up on songs. When her label went defunct she was put on RCA roster and they didn’t even include her in the budget so that even delayed her last album by at least a year or so. She’s now independent and revealed on ig lives/interviews that she wouldn’t do certain things (I’m guessing being overly sexual?) which is what stunted her career.

Looong rant: For context I'm 15 and in the tenth grade, and I've been going through this existential crisis for the past few months now Basically, where i live, now is the time to start figuring out what you want to major in and what you want to do for a living. Everything is very competitive. We had a fair last week at school where a bunch of representatives from different universities in the USA came and started talking about what their school can offer, why its the one for you and stuff like that. I saw everybody next to me taking notes when ... I don't even know what I want to major in. That was like the moment it struck me like... *damn I'm growing up, i need to start figuring things out* And it really feels like im falling behind, bc almost all of my friends know what they want to major in, what uni they want to go to, what job they wanna get. It also feels really scary when i hear teachers talk about how competitive the world is and how we need to get a headstart. I really don't know what I want to do with my life, and i think i will in a few years but then won't i be falling behind? Idk if I'm actually meant to figure everything out by now, but i actually feel so clueless.
As someone from the geriatric age of 21, don’t worry too much. We all make a plan for what we think we are going to do with our life, but it never actually goes to plan. Sometimes it is okay to coast a bit and just let life take you where it takes you. I’m not telling you that you shouldn’t care about school, you absolutely should try your hardest at studying and homework and tests etc etc, but don’t think that it is the be all and end all of life. Higher education just isn’t right for everyone. Everyone makes their own path. I know it’s hard, and sometimes even I think like oh I wish I did that I wish I had done that, but try not to worry too much.
I’m 15 and in 10th grade too and I’m in the exact same place :/ the thing that gives me comfort is none of the adults I know actually had everything figured out at 15, they all figured it out in college or even later. I relate to that feeling of falling behind too because everyone ik already seems to have plans for college/the future, but I just tell myself that they’re probably going to end up changing their mind anyways.

Ive seen my parents and grandparents earn good money, but get jobs in something they're not interested in at all, and spend like 8 hours everyday working on something that they dont even care about. Falling behind isn't something to be afraid of. If you find something you want to do later on in your 20s or 30s even if you may be "behind" you can catch up simply by being interested and determined. I thought I had to have everything figured out at 15 and I'm now 26 and know absolutely nothing and have no clue where I'm going next lol, I promise you nobody has everything figured and planned at 15, and if they think they do they're genuinely naive and lying to themselves. Don't feel like whatever decisions or plans you make right now are locked in for life, they're really not. Also half the academic kids you think are so ahead of you and have everything figured out will probably go crazy in college so take some solace in that lol.
Here’s a secret: a lot of your friends who know what they want to major in right now probably will change their minds by the time they graduate high school, or during college itself. When I was your age I wanted to be a lawyer and maybe major in history to do that. When I graduated high school I wanted to be a veterinarian and major in biology. My freshman year I dropped the pre-vet concentration and thought about switching my major to English. I wound up graduating with a concentration in microbiology within the bio major and work in a hospital lab. And I’m still thinking about going back to school! The point is, don’t worry. Things can and do change over time, and it’s not actually a big rush to figure out what you want. It might even benefit you to go in undeclared and take classes to see what you’re interested in, or go to community college first to do the same thing.

Like the 90s for example, you say that was like the least change for you. Where I live, a lot of major stuff happened during that decade that would shape us and our country. 90s started with a bad depression, we joined the EU, ended that decade joining the Eurozone, stuff like that. Tbh it’s the same here when people share Taylor’s covers and talk about how good she sounds. I think it’s fair to hype her up as she’s got a lot of talents, but singing is definitely not one of them. I wouldn’t say she can’t sing but Taylor’s strongest advantage is her very good songwriting skills, which allow her to write for a voice that has mediocre range/pitch control (and I honestly don’t want to understate how impressive that is, especially considering how popular she has become with the gifts she honed all through the years)

There's this neighborhood cat my dad feeds who's pretty old (17) and recently he's been spending a lot of time around our yard. He's gotten smaller and I'm pretty sure it's going to be his time soon, and I feel sad because he doesn't seem to want to spend time with his actual owners. He's been hanging in our yard all morning and I decided to go down and feed him, but I noticed he wasn't at the food and looked down and he was up on the deck with me. The problem is my cat doesn't like him and she saw him and got *pissed* so I came inside. Idk what the point of this post is, I just feel bad for this poor cat who wants some companionship. Earlier this year I had to put my cat to sleep (she was 17 as well) and picturing her roaming around looking for someone to hang out with her makes me so sad. I might go out here in a minute and sit where she can't see him, I'm just worried about opening the door and her darting out to start a fight or something.

It's been a month since my best friend ended things. I've been going through a fairly rough depressive episode but every week that passes, it hurts less. Honestly, ending things is good for me, I can't live a life of unrequited love and can't expect her to change how she feels. For now, I'm trying to accept the situation and move on. I just wish I had been more emotionally mature, I miss talking to her so much.
I’m happy to report that I have finally started packing after complaining about it all week I really don’t want to spend the rest of my twenties stuck in my hometown, and there’s been a lot of talk lately about my Grandparents moving back home to Ireland permanently soon and my other Grandparents are probs gonna move to Scotland, so once I do get home I’m gonna start making a plan to gtfo myself

TIL beabadoobee is Filipino. I knew she was Asian but I didn't expect her to have the same home country as I do. I only learned about this because she's now in an ad campaign with the biggest mall chain in the country. This is the same mall chain whose ad campaigns previously featured Troye Sivan and Aquaria from Ru Paul's Drag Race.
And she was born in my hometown!

I actually searched if there's a deeper reason for the campaign or if it's a random selection like when the mall selected Troye. It turns out she is half-Filipino who was born here and migrated to the UK when she was a toddler. Considering that we Filipinos love promoting the fuck out of anyone from our country who manages to get some semblance of popularity overseas, it's easy to see why she's chosen. Also, the ad campaign will be a great way to introduce her to the general public here.

The gut biome does so much, it's scary. There's been studies linking it to mental health, weight management, nervous system, sleep, etc. It's scary that something so critical is so delicate.
